The PCB, however, has downplayed the controversy and a source in the same report hinted that the cancellation could have been due to the soaring pollution levels in Lahore.

"It was only a trophy tour flag off and tournament/branding launch," said an official in a Cricbuzz report. "That (the event) is still in the works -- though may be rescheduled because Lahore outdoor activities are difficult right now," the source further added.

The scheduling conflict was expected as both India and Pakistan do not play bilateral cricket due to political tensions. Last year, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the regional Asia Cup as well but Pakistan travelled to India for the ODI World Cup which followed soon after.

“Maybe because they're playing on different wickets in India that are probably for the fast bowlers a bit more, maybe because there's more high-quality fast bowlers in India now that they're not playing as much spin bowling as they did,” the former Aussie skipper explained.

“Maybe it's the IPL or how much IPL cricket they're playing that the younger players are learning the game that way rather than the way that players did 15 or 20 years ago,” Ponting opined.

SKY got into the argument after SA batter Marco Jansen complained about India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson stepping onto the pitch repeatedly to collect the ball.

Naqvi also said that PCB is not prepared to accept the hybrid model for the tournament. The statement comes after a report in the Indian media stated that India are going to travel to Pakistan and instead are seeking Dubai, UAE as the option to play their matches.

The government will decide if Pakistan travel for any future event in India if they don't come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The PCB will not decide that," Naqvi further stated.

Both the countries do not play bilateral cricket due to the political tensions. Last year, India had refused to travel to Pakistan for the regional Asia Cup as well but Pakistan travelled to India for the ODI World Cup which followed soon after.

The Champions Trophy is expected to be played in Feb-March next year.

Situated in the Punjab province, Lahore is geographically the closest city to India with an international cricket stadium, providing flexibility to the Indian team to travel back to their homeland within a few minutes, in case Rohit Sharma’s men disagree on staying in Pakistan.

Lahore has also been proposed to host the final of the Champions Trophy further helping the Indian team to stay in proximity to their homeland in case they reach the final.

The Indian cricket team has not travelled to Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup as diplomatic relations between the nations hit low after the 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

The PCB is determined to host the entire Champions Trophy in Pakistan thereby avoiding a hybrid model which was in use when Pakistan was the host of the 2023 Asia Cup. The model allowed India to play its matches in Sri Lanka while other nations played in Pakistan.

The proposal further adds the curtain-raiser clash will be hosted in Karachi between hosts Pakistan and Australia. India will kick start their campaign against Bangladesh in Lahore on 20th February while playing New Zealand on 23rd February. "We battled back really well (with the bat)," Livingstone told TNT Sports. "The boys in the middle put on a decent partnership and ended really well. Ultimately we didn't get enough runs. "Disappointed with the end to the series but there have been a lot of good parts."

West Indies captain Shai Hope said his side's dominance had pleased him most. "We asked for consistency and discipline, and that's exactly what the guys did. The main thing if you want to be an elite team is that you've got to do things consistently," he added.
