T20 World Cup 2024: New Zealand squad to be led by Kane Williamson, Devon Conway returns from injury
Williamson, Southee likely to get fit for CWC opener, hints New Zealand coach
New Zealand have named their 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup which starts in June first week. With the shortest format WC set to be played in the USA and Caribbean, the Kiwis have decided to keep the squad experienced instead of experimenting, said head coach Gary Stead.
"We expect the venues in the West Indies to offer quite varied conditions and feel we've selected a squad with the scope to adapt to those conditions," Stead said.
Only two players in the squad will be playing in their first T20 World Cup - pacer Matt Henry and batter Rachin Ravindra.

"Matt has worked exceptionally hard on his skills across the phases of a T20 game to come back into selection consideration.
"Rachin has made every post a winner in the past 12 months and it was exciting to see him continue that trajectory over the summer in the T20 format against Australia," Stead said of their selection.

The squad will be led by Kane Williamson who returns after missing NZ's last two T20I series - thehome series against Australia in February due to father duties and the recently played away series against Pakistan because of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Devon Conway also comes back to the squad after being ruled out of IPL 2024 with a thumb injury he sustained in the Australia series.
NZ had sent a depleted squad to Pakistan and only four players - Jimmy Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Ish Sodhi, and Mark Chapman - have made it to the World Cup squad.
Veteran bowler Tim Southee has also been included along with Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson as well. Pacer Ben Sears has been named as the 16th man - the travelling reserve.
