Petrol pricein Delhi rose by 0.06 paise on Thursday amounting it to a total of Rs 82.22 per litre while the prices of diesel remained unchanged at Rs 73.87 per litre.

According to reports, petrol prices in Mumbai were registered at a high at Rs 89.60per litre, while diesel prices remained the same at Rs 78.42 for a litre, on Thursday.

The petrol price was increased by 7 paise per litre in Chennai which is being retailed at Rs 85.48 per litre while petrol prices touched Rs84.70 per litre in Kolkata, on Thursday.

As fuel prices inch closer to the psychological Rs 90-mark in the city where petrol and diesel are the costliest, Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday admitted that fuel prices are "very high and hurting the public".

On Wednesday, the fuel prices remained unchanged for the first time since September 12 with petrol selling at Rs 82.16 per litre and diesel at Rs 73.87 per litre in Delhi.

The soaring petrol prices had led to a nationwide bandh, organised by the opposition last week. The rates vary from city to city and from pump to pump depending on local taxes and transportation cost.

The high oil prices and depreciating rupee has made imports costlier and led to a surge in fuel prices.
