BYD unveils UK pricing for SEAL U DM-i: boasts cutting-edge PHEV technology

BYD, a global leader in new energy vehicles, has unveiled UK pricing for its eagerly awaited SEAL U DM-i. This spacious and comfortable five-seater D-segment SUV marks BYD's entry into the European plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) market. With its premium interior and extensive standard features, the SEAL U DM-i offers exceptional value in its class.

UK consumers can now experience BYD's cutting-edge Super DM (Dual Mode) Technology, which establishes a new benchmark in PHEV innovation. This technology delivers outstanding energy efficiency, low fuel consumption, and impressive performance. The SEAL U DM-i provides a quiet, smooth ride reminiscent of a pure-electric vehicle, complete with powerful acceleration for longer, worry-free journeys.

The vehicle is offered in two attractively priced trims. The all-wheel drive SEAL U DM-i Design is priced at £39,905 on the road (OTR), while the front-wheel drive SEAL U DM-i Boost is available at £33,205 OTR. Customers can choose from four exterior paint colors: Delan Black, Time Grey, Snow White, and Tian Qing.

Unlike other PHEV technologies, BYD's Super DM drivetrain prioritises electric power, minimising fuel reliance for a more environmentally friendly ride. It adapts effortlessly to various driving conditions. The system integrates an Electric Hybrid System, a 1.5L Xiaoyun Hybrid Engine (with two variants based on trim choice), and the ultra-safe, durable, cobalt-free BYD Blade Battery designed specifically for the hybrid platform.

A key feature of the Electric Hybrid System is its intelligent switching between EV and HEV modes, prioritizing electric propulsion when possible. The engine charges the battery to ensure constant electric driving availability, supplemented by regenerative technology.

The Design trim (AWD) boasts two high-power electric motors and an 18.3 kWh BYD Blade Battery, complemented by a 1.5L four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This combination delivers a total system power of 238 kW and 550 Nm of torque. The Boost trim (FWD) features a 1.5L hybrid engine working with a high-power electric motor, producing 160 kW of system power and 300 Nm of torque. It offers an electric driving range of 49.7 miles and a total range of 671 miles when fully charged and fueled.

The SEAL U DM-i's design draws inspiration from the ocean, featuring sleek, dynamic lines and balanced proportions. Its distinctive X-shaped front face and U-shaped headlights seamlessly integrate into the body. The pronounced upper beltline, defined side skirts, and 19-inch alloy wheels contribute to a stylish and sporty SUV presence.

Inside, the vehicle offers a premium and refined atmosphere with high-quality finishes throughout. Vegan leather seats, multi-color ambient lighting, a crystal 'water-droplet' gear shift, and a large 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen are just a few of its many features. The panoramic electric sliding sunroof enhances the cabin's spaciousness, while foldable rear seats increase luggage capacity.

The SEAL U DM-i comes equipped with an array of intelligent technologies as standard. The BYD Intelligent Cockpit System, operated via the central touchscreen, offers smart 4G connectivity, infotainment options, and OTA updates. Additional features include a premium 10-speaker audio system, Head-Up Display, Intelligent Voice Control, and multiple charging points.

Safety is a priority, with a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System featuring both active and passive elements. The vehicle's structure incorporates high-strength steel and a special design for enhanced occupant protection in side and frontal impacts.

The standard Vehicle to Load (V2L) feature allows for powering electrical devices during journeys. Both trims offer fast 18 KW DC charging, going from 30-80 per cent in just 35 minutes.

BYD provides a generous warranty package: 6 years or 93,750 miles full manufacturer's warranty, 8 years or 125,000 miles warranty on at least 70 per cent of the battery's original capacity, and 8 years or 93,750 miles warranty on the electric motor.

The BYD SEAL U DM-i will be available for order through official BYD dealer partners across the UK, with sales starting in September.
