<p>Air India's Boeing flight, bound from Delhi to London, aborted takeoff at the Delhi airport on Thursday (July 31) due to a technical issue. The cockpit crew halted the takeoff and carried out precautionary checks as per the standard protocols.</p><p>The airline spokesperson issued a statement, saying that the cockpit crew decided to discontinue the takeoff for precautionary checks.</p><p>“Flight AI2017 operating from Delhi to London on 31 July returned to the bay due to a suspected technical issue. The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the take-off run following standard operating procedures and brought the aircraft back for precautionary checks," an Air India spokesperson said.</p><p>The spokesperson added that an alternative aircraft is being deployed to fly the passengers to London at the earliest.</p><p>"Our ground staff is extending all support and care to the guests to minimise inconvenience caused due to this unexpected delay. At Air India, the safety and well-being of our passengers remain the top priority," the spokesperson said.</p><p>However, the details of the passengers could not be ascertained yet.</p><p>According to reports, India’s aviation regulator has found 51 safety violations at Air India over the past year during its annual inspection of all commercial airlines. According to a report by the Assaf Association, an Aid organisation for refugees and asylum seekers in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, about 850 Ukrainian women have been forced into prostitution since the beginning of the Russian invasion.&nbsp;</p><p>An excerpt of the chat as reported by N12, “Right now, you can only enter through Jordan,” a trafficker posing as a recruiter told a Russian woman on Telegram, "You will need to purchase plane tickets to Jordan. We will finance a six-day stay in a hotel in Amman, which costs approximately $500, and we will also cover the cost of food and transportation to Israel. You must have at least $1,000 to cross the border."&nbsp;</p><p>In a similar incident in 2024, five South African women were rescued in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. They had been trafficked through Jordan, under the guise of pilgrims. Once in Israel, they endured imprisonment, physical abuse, and were coerced into prostitution.&nbsp;</p><p>Some of the survivors reportedly live on minuscule wages in Bat Yam, a neighbourhood in the south of Tel Aviv, known for its Russian communities. With the increased enforcement at the Egyptian border, trafficking rings are pushed to the Jordanian route. There are ads written in Russia that claim an 80 per cent success rate of crossing the Jordan border, and others bragging about having no issues with the security forces at the Jordan border.&nbsp;</p><p>In March 2025, an Indian national, Thomas Gabriel Perera, was killed while attempting to cross the Jordanian border. He had reportedly been offered a job in Israel by a fellow Indian national working in Jordan with a monthly salary of approximately NIS 14,550. In the case of the South African Women, ‘one woman was thrown naked into the street’ for perceived underperformance. Many report confiscation of documents, restricted movement, psychological trauma, and isolation from support systems.</p><p>There had been numerous documented cases of Palestinians being trafficked from the West Bank and Gaza to Israel. In January 2024, an IDF soldier was among 14 Israelis accused of trafficking Palestinian women into Israel. According to a report by the US Department of State, since October 7, the resulting displacement of residents in areas around Gaza, NGOs have reported the increased vulnerability of children to exploitation, including sex trafficking.</p><p>According to a report by Israel's justice ministry from 2020 to 2024, 326 official victims of trafficking were recognised, among them, 71 per cent were women, 40 per cent were sexually exploited, and 44 per cent endured slavery. Israel has laws against trafficking, like the 2006 Anti-trafficking law, which prevents human trafficking for labour and sex work. But the enforcement had been particularly feeble. Between 2017–2021, 789 investigations were launched, but only 155 indictments were filed. You must have at least $1,000 to cross the border." In a similar incident in 2024, five South African women were rescued in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. They had been trafficked through Jordan, under the guise of pilgrims. Once in Israel, they endured imprisonment, physical abuse, and were coerced into prostitution. Some of the survivors reportedly live on minuscule wages in Bat Yam, a neighbourhood in the south of Tel Aviv, known for its Russian communities. With the increased enforcement at the Egyptian border, trafficking rings are pushed to the Jordanian route. There are ads written in Russia that claim an 80 per cent success rate of crossing the Jordan border, and others bragging about having no issues with the security forces at the Jordan border. In March 2025, an Indian national, Thomas Gabriel Perera, was killed while attempting to cross the Jordanian border. He had reportedly been offered a job in Israel by a fellow Indian national working in Jordan with a monthly salary of approximately NIS 14,550. In the case of the South African Women, ‘one woman was thrown naked into the street’ for perceived underperformance. Many report confiscation of documents, restricted movement, psychological trauma, and isolation from support systems. There had been numerous documented cases of Palestinians being trafficked from the West Bank and Gaza to Israel. In January 2024, an IDF soldier was among 14 Israelis accused of trafficking Palestinian women into Israel. According to a report by the US Department of State, since October 7, the resulting displacement of residents in areas around Gaza, NGOs have reported the increased vulnerability of children to exploitation, including sex trafficking. According to a report by Israel's justice ministry from 2020 to 2024, 326 official victims of trafficking were recognised, among them, 71 per cent were women, 40 per cent were sexually exploited, and 44 per cent endured slavery. <p>In a shocking incident, a city councilman in Virginia was seriously injured Wednesday (July 30) when a man stormed into his office, doused him in gasoline and set him on fire. Lee Vogler, who has served on the Danville City Council for more than a decade, was taken by medical helicopter to a burn unit in North Carolina after the attack. The alleged assailant, identified by authorities as 29-year-old Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, reportedly forced his way into the building, confronted Vogler, and then chased him outside before igniting the blaze. Authorities also said that the attack was rooted in a personal dispute, not politics. In a shocking incident, a city councilman in Virginia was seriously injured Wednesday (July 30) when a man stormed into his office, doused him in gasoline and set him on fire. Lee Vogler, who has served on the Danville City Council for more than a decade, was taken by medical helicopter to a burn unit in North Carolina after the attack. The alleged assailant, identified by authorities as 29-year-old Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, reportedly forced his way into the building, confronted Vogler, and then chased him outside before igniting the blaze. Authorities also said that the attack was rooted in a personal dispute, not politics. Hayes was arrested at the scene and is charged with attempted first-degree murder. “There is no justification for lashing out,” said Showcase Magazine publisher Andrew Scott Brooks. “This type of act of senseless violence needs to stop.” Brooks said two other employees were inside the office when the attack happened. According to witness accounts, Vogler ran through the office screaming for help after being doused with gasoline. A colleague called 911 as Hayes allegedly chased him outside and set him on fire. “Our door was locked,” Brooks said. “They forced their way in and went straight to Lee. The next thing, Lee is running through the office covered in gasoline, yelling for someone to call 911.” Local and state leaders expressed shock and concern. “Our prayers go out to Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler who was violently attacked at his workplace earlier today,” Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin said in a statement. “We pray for a swift recovery for Lee and for peace to be on the entire Danville community.” “He makes sales, but he also writes stories about our community,” Brooks said. “His passion is being on the city council. He loves when people reach out to him with concerns—he’s made that his life since his early 20s.” Outside of work, Brooks added, Vogler is a devoted father of two. “He’s the one coaching his kids’ sports teams,” Brooks said. “He’s been an asset to this community for much of his adult life.” Danville is located roughly 140 miles north of Charlotte, North Carolina. As of Thursday, Vogler remains hospitalised in serious condition. Hayes split from wife Mary Alice days before attack Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported that Shotsie Michael Buch Hayes had divorced his wife just two weeks ago. According to the Danville Police Department, Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes and Vogler knew each other, and the attack stemmed from a personal enmity. Moreover, a photo of the Vogler, with the suspect and his wife, Mary Alice, can be seen on the Instagram account of councilman Lee Vogler.
