US presidential election: Kamala Harris' fundraising triples Donald Trump's in August

Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris raised more than triple the funds for her presidential campaign whencompared toher Republican rival Donald Trumpin the month of August, the United States Federal Election Commission (FEC) said in the latest figures.

Harris and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) saw $257 million flow into their coffers, compared with $85 million raised by Trump and the Republican National Committee (RNC). Democrats have witnessedan increase infinancial fundraising since US PresidentJoe Bidencalled off hisre-election bid.

The FEC highlighted that Harris'Democratic campaign,her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and the DNC have$286 million to usein the final two months before the election on November 5, compared with Trump's $214 million.

The FEC revealed that spending on the Harris-Walz campaign reached $174 million last month, almost three times as much as the Trump campaign outlays of $61 million.

However, the campaign and national committee spending togethershowed a less extreme split. Harris and the Democrats splurged $258 million last month into her sprint for the presidency.

Meanwhile, Trump and the Republicans spent$121 million on campaign advertising and costs which was reportedly$36 million more than they raised that month.

Despite the Harris campaign's cash advantage, the polls – nationally and in swing states – indicate an extremely tight race between the candidates.

Both campaigns stressed that most of their expenditure was on advertisements, with smaller sums paying for rallies, travel and campaign staff salaries.
