Real women 'mannequins' walk on treadmill to model clothes in China mall

China mall

A viral video on social media showing models walking on the "ramp" at a China mall has left netizens in shock. They are apparently live mannequins, modelling clothes on a makeshift ramp created out of a treadmill. The video has garnered over 5 million views and can be seen outside the designer clothing store ITIB.

The models wear a serious look on their face, just like ramp models, while wearing the clothes. The strange tactic, as expected, attracted several people who stopped to look on as the women walked and modelled the products live.

People took videos and shared then on social media. Everyone who saw the videos is in disbelief.

The caption alongside the video reads, "A Chinese retail chain has swapped traditional mannequins for real women walking on treadmills, wearing their clothes. They believe this helps customers see how the garments fit and move on a person."

Similar tactics to attract customers were employed by a store in Dubai some time back.

The clothing store had a model stand next to the mannequins at the Dubai Festival City Mall. The woman struck different poses while standing in the store. People stopped to get a look and could not believe that a real person was doing the job.

Some people on social media termed it inhumane and equated it to slavery. “This is inhuman. I’m sure her feet hurt like crazy and when we have regular dummies why do we even need this?" a user wrote.

People react to video

However, the video of the China store is generating mixed buzz online. Some users humorously stated that it is a nice way to get some exercise done. "Not a bad hustle if you’re looking for some extra cash…and it keeps you fit too! Get paid to walk and show off the latest styles," a user wrote.

Meanwhile, others wondered whether the girls were allowed a toilet break. Another user was concerned about their safety, pointing out that they had nothing to hold on to and could fall down.
