Aryan Anand, an Indian student in the United States, was arrested and deported after he was found to have falsified documents to obtain a full scholarship, media reported.

Anand was a student at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. He devised a detailed plan which included fabricating financial records and transcripts. As per reports, he even arranged a fake death certificate for his father. It was also found that Anand's father is alive and currently living in India.

In a now-deleted Reddit post, he bragged about his life and career on lies" and also made several other confessions. He created a fake email ID to look like his school principal. The post was flagged by a platform moderator after a background check.

After the matter came to light, the police department at the university began a probe. Anand was eventually arrested on April 30 and was charged with forgery and theft of services. 

As per reports, Anand was charged and his bail would have cost $25,000. He was taken into custody by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

"The defendant only had one other university that he followed, which was Lehigh University. So, the moderator actually reached out to Lehigh to give them a heads up," ABC News quoted Northampton County Assistant DA Michael Weinert as saying. 

"It was difficult to really verify these things. I think that was great work by Lehigh and their police force. They were able to really dig deep and find all this really was false," he added. 

In a statement, Lehigh University said, "Appreciates the report to its ethics hotline and the diligent investigation by the Lehigh University Police Department that led to Aryan Anand’s arrest."
