Zimbabwe’s National Assembly has overwhelmingly approved a controversial constitutional amendment that extends presidential and parliamentary terms from five to seven years. In a move that has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties and constitutional experts, more than 200 lawmakers backed the bill on Thursday, June 18, 2026, surpassing the two-thirds majority required to alter the constitution.
