António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, arrived in Beirut for a “solidarity” visit to show support for the people of Lebanon as the conflict linked to the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran intensifies. Guterres said Lebanese civilians were being pulled into a wider regional conflict and stressed the urgent need for de-escalation and humanitarian assistance. The visit comes as Israeli strikes and Hezbollah attacks continue to fuel instability across Lebanon and the broader Middle East.
