Dubai has paused its long-held Ramadan cannon tradition amid rising tensions from the Iran war. The cannon blast, historically used to signal the end of the daily fast during Ramadan, has been replaced with the sound of drumming to avoid panic during the conflict.
The Ramadan cannon is a centuries-old tradition across parts of the Muslim world, used to mark the time of iftar when fasting ends at sunset.
Authorities made the change after concerns that the loud cannon fire could be mistaken for an attack during the ongoing regional war. The move reflects how the conflict is beginning to affect everyday cultural traditions in the Gulf.
