German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is in India on his first official visit, meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad for delegation-level talks aimed at strengthening India-Germany ties, coinciding with celebrations of 75 years of diplomatic relations and 25 years of strategic partnership. The leaders discussed cooperation in trade, investment, technology, defence, security, innovation and sustainable development, and also participated in the International Kite Festival 2026
