ICC Hears War Crimes Charges Against Fugitive Kony
The International Criminal Court (ICC) will begin hearings on Tuesday against fugitive Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, who faces war crimes charges over a reign of terror that left tens of thousands dead. Kony, leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, is accused of 39 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including murder, torture, rape, sexual slavery, and pillaging. This marks the ICC’s first-ever trial in absentia.
