Independence Day 2024: PM Modi dons leheriya turban; take a look at his iconic headgears over the years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not only gained recognition for his political and leadership skills but also his signature traditional turbans which he dons every year on the occasion of Independence Day. 

All of his vibrant turbans hold a regional, cultural, and political symbolism which he wears with pride embodying India's diverse heritage.

PM Modi held up his ritual for the celebrations of the 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024, by wearing a turban with Rajasthani leheriya pattern in yellow, green, and orange hues. PM Modi wore his signature white kurta and churidar, with a blue jacket representing India's national spirit for his 11th Independence Day speech.

Let us look at his previous turbans that signified various cultures and meanings.

For his first Independence Day speech, PM Modi wore a traditional Rajasthani turban in orange and green colours with intricate traditional motifs in yellow.

In 2015, PM Modi wore a vibrant and fashionable turban with a traditional design of criss-cross lines in orange, green and yellow.

PM Modi donned a unique and stylish turban with a tie-dye pattern in pink and yellow, highlighting India's rich cultural heritage and his vibrant persona.

PM Modi continued to display his cultural identity with this yellow and orange turban that embodied a geometric pattern symbolising India's culture.

For his 2018 Independence Day speech, PM Modi wore a bright saffron turban with a red pattern, the colour being a symbol of courage and sacrifice.

PM Modi showcased his vibrant turban in 2019 with a traditional Indian pattern, representing national pride, in yellow, red, and green colours.

For his speech at Red Fort, PM Modi wore a remarkable saffron and cream turban, symbolising India's cultural heritage and national pride.

For his eighth Independence speech, PM Modi donned a Maharashtra's Kolhapuri pheta style turban in saffron colour with a vibrant red pattern and pink tail.

PM Modi addressed the nation on August 15, 2022, while wearing a symbolic turban featuring the tricolours of the Indian flag, embodying national spirit.
