The ICC, however, will assess the existing pitch first to see if the repairs can be done and the match can get started from the point it was stopped without affecting any of the participating teams. The new pitch will be used only if the original one can't be repaired. Although, if it is not possible to use the substitute pitch as well, the match will then be abandoned and would be deemed a no-result. While Ishan is a like-for-like replacement for Pant, with both the southpaws being aggressive with the bat, Bharat is more of a steady batter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It will be interesting to see if Rohit &amp; Co. opt for Ishan and drop Bharat for the mega finale. Further, Hayden also said that India should play both R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the playing XI.</p>

<p>In this regard, he said, "What works for India is two spinners. It doesn't work for Australia, apart from the outrageous turners that we saw in India during the Border-Gavaskar trophy."</p>

<p>Hayden advised the Indian team to focus on the process and not think&nbsp;about the outcomes. "Being cautious about looking for the scoreboard and looking for the titles and just playing and being a part of the process, something when you look at franchise setups, Gujarat Titans have done really well this year and CSK have done very well. Mumbai Indians as well believe in a certain process. So, that would be my advice to Indian cricket to forget the outcomes, but buy into the process,"&nbsp;Hayden added.</p>

"You need some cricket behind you and staying in the park for six hours for five days is different from bowling in nets for two hours every day," he further opined.&nbsp; "Shami might be key as he has been playing a lot of cricket," Shastri further asserted. Shami ended with 28 scalps in IPL 2023 and won the Purple Cap. Thus, his form certainly keeps India in good stead heading into the marquee finale.</p>

<p>Shastri, who was in the Indian dressing room when Virat Kohli-led India lost a rain-marred WTC final in Southampton in 2021,&nbsp;also pointed out that the second cycle of the WTC has been much different.</p>

<p>"When you don't win, it hurts as you are not there to fill in numbers. But if I look in hindsight, compared to that World Test Championship cycle, it's chalk and cheese. There was COVID-19, quarantines. It was hard on players, 14 days in isolation and then seven days of training. Here both teams have had time to prepare and this one will be a good contest," he added.</p>

<p>Whoever wins the WTC final will become the first-ever team to have won all ICC events (ICC ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, WTC) at least once.</p>

<p>"Not at all; we don't feel any pressure in terms of trying to win an ICC trophy. Of course, it would be nice to do it. Nice to be able to win an ICC tournament," Dravid said during the presser ahead of the WTC Final.</p>

<p>"But also, in the context of things, you look at this, and you see this is the culmination of 2 years of work, the culmination of a lot of success that gets you here. There are a lot of positives to take from that, see where you stand in the table, winning series in Australia, drawing series here. Being very competitive, this team has played in the world over in the last 5-6 years. Those are things that will never change, just because, you don't have an ICC trophy. That's really the bigger picture," the head coach added.</p>

<p>"But, of course, it would be nice to be able to lift... any game of cricket, you want to win it. This happens to be the WTC final, and it would be nice to get on the right side of the result," Rahul said.</p>

<p>Speaking during an ICC event – ‘Afternoon with Test Legends’, Rohit said to be successful in England maintaining concentration for longer durations is the key. He added that if a batter is ready to grind out in the middle, chances of lasting longer at the crease increase.</p>

<p>"In England, in general, it's pretty challenging conditions for batters. As long as you are prepared to have a good grind, you can have success," Rohit said ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia, starting June 7th at the Oval in London.</p>

<p>Having attained an impressive average of over 50 in this WTC cycle, Rohit - who had played several Tests in these conditions earlier, said though he backs his style of play, he wouldn’t mind at least knowing about the pattern of some of the most successful batters in England over the years.</p>

<p>"I am not going to try and emulate them (successful players) but it would be a bit nice to know their pattern of scoring. What I have found out at Oval is that the square boundaries are pretty quick," Rohit added.</p>

<h2>Time to cross the line</h2>

<p>Having come close on a few occasions across formats in the past decade, India failed to cross the line and win an ICC trophy. With them in stupendous form lately, India has a good chance to put everything behind them and chase the glory. Addressing the same, the Indian captain said,</p>

<p>"It keeps challenging you. You want to be in these situations. You look forward, and as a person, it brings the best out of you. In the last 3-4 years in Test cricket, we have had good success. Now it is about crossing that final hurdle and giving that confidence to youngsters so that they can play in the way they want to play," Rohit concluded.</p>

<p>Lyon said, by rubbing shoulders with some of the greats at his IPL franchise, someone like Rohit Sharma, Green would benefit himself going forward.</p>

<p>"His (Green) presence around the team has definitely changed after being a part of that IPL and after scoring that hundred in Ahmedabad,” Lyon said. "He's growing in confidence and being himself more, coming out of his shell a little bit more around the team.</p>

<p>"I think that just comes from being able to hang in there and play the IPL and be around the likes of (Mumbai and India Test captain) Rohit Sharma and these guys to learn off them," the veteran spinner added.</p>

<p>Former England spinner Monty Panesar feels India must play Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. Labelling the surface at the Oval as spinner-friendly, in comparison to other venues in the UK, Monty said going ahead with both will benefit India.</p>

<p>Since the Australian team has had their trouble against the turning ball, especially against spinners from India, Monty feels this move could help India sit in the driver's seat throughout the Test.</p>

<p>Speaking to the PTI ahead of the one-off game, which begins on June 7th in London, Monty said, "It is one pitch in England you tend to play two spinners. If the ball turns, there is bounce as well for the spinners. In my view, the wicket will be flat. In these conditions, it will suit India if they play two spinners. We have already seen Australia struggling against spinners, especially from India."</p>

<p>England’s one of most premier modern-day spinners, Monty Panesar, added going by the recent results at the venue in the T20 Blast, there was some spin on offer, and since ICC will want the match to go ahead till the fourth day, at least, chances of having a green pitch instead of a dry one is unlikely to happen.</p>

<p>"The weather has been hot, and we are seeing the ball turning even in some T20 Blast games in London. I also don't see them keeping grass because they would want the match to last at least four days," Panesar added.</p>

<h2>Considering conditions at Oval, Umesh might play ahead of Thakur</h2>

<p>Not only spin, history suggests the ball tends to reverse a bit at the Oval. On that note, Panesar expects Rohit to play seamer Umesh Yadav ahead of the bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur. Elaborating on this, Panesar said with Umesh offering an express speed of above 140 kmph and considering the old ball does talk, he should be the first choice other than Mohammed Siraj and Shami.</p>

<p>"It will also be interesting to see who the seamers will be as they have a lot of options there as well. India are the stronger side in my opinion on all fronts. As they will get extra batting options with Ashwin and Jadeja, I would go with Umesh as the third pacer," Monty said.</p>

<p>“He is the guy Rohit can go to and say 'I want you to bowl five overs at 140 plus and rough up the Australian batters'. You will need that extra pace.</p>

<p>"The ball does reverse at The Oval, and we have seen how good the Indian bowlers are when it comes to reverse swing. They can get the ball to move more than the Australian pacers,” he added.</p>

Since the Australian team has had their trouble against the turning ball, especially against spinners from India, Monty feels this move could help India sit in the driver's seat throughout the Test. Speaking to the PTI ahead of the one-off game, which begins on June 7th in London, Monty said, "It is one pitch in England you tend to play two spinners. If the ball turns, there is bounce as well for the spinners. In my view, the wicket will be flat. In these conditions, it will suit India if they play two spinners. We have already seen Australia struggling against spinners, especially from India." "The weather has been hot, and we are seeing the ball turning even in some T20 Blast games in London. I also don't see them keeping grass because they would want the match to last at least four days," Panesar added. Considering conditions at Oval, Umesh might play ahead of Thakur Not only spin, history suggests the ball tends to reverse a bit at the Oval. On that note, Panesar expects Rohit to play seamer Umesh Yadav ahead of the bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur. Elaborating on this, Panesar said with Umesh offering an express speed of above 140 kmph and considering the old ball does talk, he should be the first choice other than Mohammed Siraj and Shami. "It will also be interesting to see who the seamers will be as they have a lot of options there as well. India are the stronger side in my opinion on all fronts. As they will get extra batting options with Ashwin and Jadeja, I would go with Umesh as the third pacer," Monty said. “He is the guy Rohit can go to and say 'I want you to bowl five overs at 140 plus and rough up the Australian batters'. You will need that extra pace. "The ball does reverse at The Oval, and we have seen how good the Indian bowlers are when it comes to reverse swing. <p>"Yeah, they [breaks] are rare to come by," Cummins said ahead of the marquee clash at an ICC event. Notably, Australia will stay back in England&nbsp;where the WTC Final will take place, to play the five-Test Ashes series.</p>

<p>"So, yeah, we try and take a break when we can. I've always said that we have got six Test matches in the next two months, I'd much prefer to be slightly underdone than overdone. That's from a bowler's point of view. I always feel like it doesn't take too much to kind of get ready. And then I want to make sure I'm fresh physically for the matches," added Cummins.</p>

<p>While some Aussie players, including Cummins, had a break before the WTC Final, Indians, on the other hand, are coming from the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), except middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara who played some county cricket in England for preparation.</p>

<p>The Aussie skipper also said that his team is refreshed and ready to face India after a three-day training camp in Beckenham where Cummins spoke at the event.</p>

<p>"We have had some really good training at Beckenham the last week," said the fast bowler. "Obviously back home, we did a lot of training as well. So everyone's come in, we've trained really hard, everyone's rejuvenated, refreshed and pretty keen."</p>

<p>The WTC Final starts from June 7 at the Oval cricket ground in London where both the teams will face off each other in the first ICC Final since the 2003 ODI World Cup Final in South Africa.</p>

<p>Whichever team wins the trophy will be the first one to have all the ICC trophies to their name. India are in their second consecutive final of the two editions played so far while Australia is in their first WTC final.</p>
