Another pastor wanted to undo the "curse" immediately, but that spun off a whole new debate about the right timing to do so as per the meeting agenda. Towards the end of the meeting, she expressed her displeasure with the decision to allow an invocation at the city council. "Opening with an invocation means allowing viewpoints that may not reflect our own, " adding, "responding to someone’s invocation is a slippery slope", and this is "exactly why I had concerns about having an invocation when we first talked about it."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>When the resolution to permit invocations was passed on January 20, Galloway was the only person who voted against it. <h2><strong>Venice and tourist taxes</strong></h2><p>Venice attracts millions of tourists each year, with 21 million being those who visit only during the day. Overtourism has been a massive problem for the city and is threatening to bring down the historic centre's delicate infrastructure. The city started charging a €5 daily fee for day-trippers to deter people from coming to the lagoon city.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In 2025, in addition to the tourist tax, those who didn't make reservations four days in advance were charged an entry fee of €10, while the enforcement period expanded to 54 days.</p><p>Rome and Amsterdam also have such extra costs where tourists are charged a little extra for their room. In Amsterdam, this figure is 12.5 per cent extra over and above the cost of their hotel room. It is called "Toeristenbelasting" and is one of the highest visitor fees in Europe.</p>

A cafe in Venice served croissants and Aperol Spritzes to a woman and then charged her not only for the food, but also for the music playing at the restaurant. She shared the receipt on Facebook, saying it seriously made her laugh.

A crab wielding a knife blade left a homeowner in Florida shocked. In a video shared by Eduardo Alvarez, under the handle bestdad_ceo on Instagram, the crustacean can be seen holding what looks like the front end of a knife. The weapon is fully stuck inside its claw. The crab swings its claws towards the man and his pet dog, with a blade in one of them. The video was shared by Eduardo Alvarez on Instagram with the caption "Florida is getting out of hand." The man's dog sniffs the crab and then jumps back in surprise as the crustacean swings its blade-wielding claw around. "Dude, are you kidding me right now?" he says in surprise. The crab keeps going at it when the man catches one of it claws and picks it up. The blade appears shiny, and the crab doesn't let it go at any time. He asks his dog, "Where the heck did you find a crab with a freaking shank?" He tells his dog, "Summer, I don't recommend messing with this. This is like a gangster-a** crab." Alvarez takes the crab out into the garden where the video ends.

<p>&nbsp;</p><h2><strong>Giraffe in a hole</strong></h2><p>They said that they realised it must be a prank after seeing the photo. "Turns out, it was. The local branch of the DA thought sticking a stuffed giraffe head into a hole was a clever way to draw attention," angry workers wrote in a social media post.</p><h2><strong>Rescuers demand money for fuel</strong></h2><p>The rescuers who went to help the supposed giraffe had to abandon another mission. They are demanding the DA make a donation to cover their fuel costs. "When an animal's life might be on the line, we don't wait around; we respond. What if it had been real?" they fumed in the post. They also slammed the party for using "an actual dead animal to score political points", calling it "unethical and deeply disrespectful to our wildlife and biodiversity."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Du Plessis's initial post showed the pothole, saying that people passing by thought it was an actual giraffe. He added that they had visited the site in February last year and nothing has been done about the pothole.&nbsp;</p>

A South African party thought it would be funny to fill a giraffe head and place it in a pothole to highlight the problem on the road. Animal rescue workers are now demanding a donation to cover fuel costs for the bizarre prank.

A South African political party's bizarre move to draw attention to the country's potholes backfired badly when animal rescue teams ended up getting involved in the stunt. The Democratic Alliance (DA) posted a video showing a giraffe inside a pothole near Johannesburg, with the caption, "A sinkhole so deep a giraffe can stand in it." It wanted to highlight the problematic roads in the country. However, the party's shadow member for roads and logistics, Evert Du Plessis, did not expect things to take such a dramatic turn. Seeing the giraffe inside the sinkhole triggered concerns for the animal's safety, as the stunt pulled by the party's shadow member for roads and logistics, Evert Du Plessis, failed. People started calling the local Owl Rescue Centre about the giraffe in a hole. Rescuers rushed to the spot in Mogale City but were shocked to learn that it wasn't a live giraffe but a big stuffed head of a dead animal.

Gravity loss, reptile people, and flat Earth: Why do we love a good conspiracy theory?

<p>A Brazilian footballer fell into a tunnel while celebrating a goal after he jumped over an advertisement hoarding. The incident occurred during Brazil’s top flight on Saturday at a match hosted by Coritiba against Chapecoense. Coritiba defender Jacy put the ball in the net and thought it was a clear goal and that his team was 2-0 up in the first half. He started celebrating and went over the hoarding but landed straight into a tunnel that had been opened for half-time.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A security guard came rushing to check on the defender, with his teammates also looking over the hoarding to see Jacy and if he was alright. He was swiftly removed and treated. The footballer was able to take the field again, but had to exit only after two minutes because of the effects of the fall. The entire saga became even more painful after the referee denied him the goal he was celebrating. It was ruled out for offside following a VAR review. However, Coritiba still managed to beat Chapecoense 2-1.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Weather balloon or plasma orb?</strong></h2><p>Netizens offered their explanations of what it could be. One said that it is a "daytime plasma orb, which doesn’t happen often!" while another added, "It definitely wasn’t a balloon… It was triple the height of a 747." This is possibly the simplest explanation as weather balloons are a stationary atmospheric phenomenon and can climb above 100,000 feet. High-altitude research or weather balloons operating in the stratosphere can appear virtually stationary from the ground. Their ultra-reflective material can catch sunlight intensely, making them appear as brilliant, luminous white spheres.</p><h2><strong>Mind-reading orb?</strong></h2><p>However, as always, the mysterious object also spawned UFO theories. Self-described UFO researcher Scott C Waring said it was a "plasma orb" which can alter its size and shape, without offering any evidence. He made another bizarre claim, saying the orb could read the workers’ thoughts and access their memories through telepathy.</p>

A mysterious white orb appeared in the Colorado skies recently, and then again a week later at another place 80km away. It was luminous and glowed, according to the person who saw it. Some think it was a plasma orb, while others think it was merely a balloon.

<p>A village in England draws so many tourists that it earned £45,000, or nearly Rs 58 lakh, in traffic fines last year. Bibury in the Cotswolds, England, was named the "world's most beautiful village" by Forbes magazine in 2025. Since then, it has been overrun by tourists, leaving residents facing a mountain of trouble. Only about 627 people live in the village, which has earlier earned accolades from Japanese emperor Hirohito and poet and artist William Morris. The former described it as a "sacred place", while the latter termed Bibury “the most beautiful village in England” a century ago.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>This has driven people to visit the village where 17th-century weavers' cottages and a water meadow create a distinct environment. However, a lack of car parking has aggravated the situation. The massive crowds, along with cars parked on double yellow lines outside villagers’ homes or on pavements, have become a headache for the residents, The Independent reported.</p><h2><strong>Parking fights in world's most beautiful village</strong></h2><p>Brawls are breaking out over parking spaces. Last year, a resident complained that a car ran over his foot over a parking dispute. Another resident got caught in a fight with a tourist after he asked him to remove the car from a pavement outside his home. This led the Gloucestershire County Council to start imposing fines. The number of notices shot up to 651 in 2025, compared to just 28 in 2019.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>If the fines are paid within two weeks, they are 35 pounds, the amount is £70. This led to the council generating £45,570 in a year, or £3,797 a month. A resident told the outlet that they are facing a huge problem. People just "find anywhere they can park. And if they can’t find somewhere legally, we see them leaving cars on the pavements or on double yellow lines."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>However, enforcement of the rules is costing £ 4,000 a month, and the fines are not covering this money. Dubbed the world's most beautiful village, Bibury is charging tourists parking fines for leaving their vehicles outside people's homes and other unauthorised places. The high footfall generated £45,000, or Rs 58 lakh, in traffic fines in 2025.

A village in England draws so many tourists that it earned £45,000, or nearly Rs 58 lakh, in traffic fines last year. The former described it as a "sacred place", while the latter termed Bibury “the most beautiful village in England” a century ago. This has driven people to visit the village where 17th-century weavers' cottages and a water meadow create a distinct environment. However, a lack of car parking has aggravated the situation. The massive crowds, along with cars parked on double yellow lines outside villagers’ homes or on pavements, have become a headache for the residents, The Independent reported. Parking fights in world's most beautiful village Brawls are breaking out over parking spaces. Last year, a resident complained that a car ran over his foot over a parking dispute. Another resident got caught in a fight with a tourist after he asked him to remove the car from a pavement outside his home. This led the Gloucestershire County Council to start imposing fines. The number of notices shot up to 651 in 2025, compared to just 28 in 2019. If the fines are paid within two weeks, they are 35 pounds, the amount is £70. This led to the council generating £45,570 in a year, or £3,797 a month. A resident told the outlet that they are facing a huge problem. People just "find anywhere they can park. And if they can’t find somewhere legally, we see them leaving cars on the pavements or on double yellow lines." However, enforcement of the rules is costing £ 4,000 a month, and the fines are not covering this money. So pay-and-display parking will now be introduced, with £7 for two hours between March and October, or £6 being considered. The Gloucestershire Council is expecting £218,880 a year from this, with profits rising to £360,680 after four years.

<p>In a strange incident, an elephant killed two people 14 years after killing two other members of the same family. The shocking part is that the family had relocated 17 kilometres away, and the beast still managed to find them. According to a report by Kathmandu Post, Dhurbe trampled Shanichara Bote's father and mother, Budhiram and Jharali, on Dec 16, 2012, near the Chitwan National Park. The danger posed by the rogue elephant forced the family to shift to Jagatpur after crossing two rivers. However, the animal found its way to their new home on Saturday (July 4), broke in and killed Bote's 25-year-old daughter-in-law and four-year-old grandson.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Chitwan National Park is the country's first protected area, and Dhurbe's violent antics in the region were known to the officials since it first killed a human in 2010. Yet, they failed to take relevant action to protect those living in the vicinity. The elephant has killed 25 people since then, including four from Bote's family alone. He told the outlet that the fear of the creature led them to sell everything and move to Jagatpur. “We believed that moving across the major rivers would keep us safe. But after all these years, the exact same elephant found us again, raided our home, and took my daughter-in-law and my little grandson," he said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>On the night of the incident, Bote's wife felt something pounding on the wall. She went out, after which the mud walls fell, and her daughter-in-law came out with her son. The elephant caught hold of them. Bote's wife scared it away with fire on dry thatch, which burned down their entire home.</p><h2><strong>What turned the elephant rogue?</strong></h2><p>Conservatives say Dhurbe went rogue after being aggressively pushed out of the herd by dominant males while still young. &nbsp; He turned into a lone wanderer and hostile entity who started seeing human settlements as his grounds to get food. Abinash Thapa Magar, information officer and conservation official at Chitwan National Park, told the outlet that they have been monitoring Dhurbe through a satellite tracking collar, and data logs show that he was near the site of the incident on Saturday night.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Dhurbe has also killed two separate military personnel deployed for counter-poaching and park security duties. After the elephant killed Bote's parents in 2012, a high-level emergency security meeting issued a directive to kill the marauding elephant. They hunted him down and wounded him, but he managed to escape. It was assumed for four years that he had died, but he re-emerged in 2016. A second collar was fitted in 2020, and then again in 2023. An elephant in Nepal has killed a total of 25 people, including four members of the same family, 14 years apart. The family shifted to another place in 2012. But the same elephant found them in 2026. Dhurbe has been terrorising the region for 16 years.

In a strange incident, an elephant killed two people 14 years after killing two other members of the same family. However, the animal found its way to their new home on Saturday (July 4), broke in and killed Bote's 25-year-old daughter-in-law and four-year-old grandson. Chitwan National Park is the country's first protected area, and Dhurbe's violent antics in the region were known to the officials since it first killed a human in 2010. But after all these years, the exact same elephant found us again, raided our home, and took my daughter-in-law and my little grandson," he said. On the night of the incident, Bote's wife felt something pounding on the wall. She went out, after which the mud walls fell, and her daughter-in-law came out with her son. The elephant caught hold of them. Bote's wife scared it away with fire on dry thatch, which burned down their entire home. What turned the elephant rogue? Conservatives say Dhurbe went rogue after being aggressively pushed out of the herd by dominant males while still young. He turned into a lone wanderer and hostile entity who started seeing human settlements as his grounds to get food. Abinash Thapa Magar, information officer and conservation official at Chitwan National Park, told the outlet that they have been monitoring Dhurbe through a satellite tracking collar, and data logs show that he was near the site of the incident on Saturday night. Dhurbe has also killed two separate military personnel deployed for counter-poaching and park security duties. But it transmits data at one-hour intervals.

<p>China released an AI-generated ad to tell youth about the dangers of taking drugs. However, the gleaming video ended up making drug use look cool, after which it was pulled. The Hong Kong Correctional Services Department (CSD) released the ad on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. It shows a music group called Obsession singing about the multiple ways drugs can help. The four members of the group represent a different substance. The one representing crystal meth says, "I’m Icy! Take a snort from me." The member called Coke says, “Cocaine goes down easily and beats the heat. It energises and keeps you clear-headed. Super dope!"<br>&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Sick old men and crawling bugs&nbsp;</strong></h2><p>Weedy (for cannabis) and Little E (etomidate, known colloquially as space oil) are the other two members in the band. They also list the benefits of the drugs. As they continue to sing on stage, they turn into old men who appear shrivelled and sick, depicting that drugs are bad for you. The next shot shows an AI video of drugs and bottles all over the place, with bugs appearing to be a mix of cockroaches and scorpions crawling around. A Chinese ad intended to scare people away from doing drugs ended up becoming a promotional video for substance use. With beautiful girls listing the benefits of drugs while singing on stage, the ad did more harm than good.
