Virat Kohli did not have a smooth start to his batting in the opening Test against West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica. The former India skipper required 81 deliveries to hit his first boundary of the game. It is now being learnt that during his stay at the crease, Kohli was quite livid with West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite’s bowling action. A report published by Wisden claimed that Kohli was even heard questioning the validity of Brathwaite’s bowling. Kohli was reportedly heard saying on the stump mic, "Bhatta phenk raha hai", which roughly translates to "he is throwing bricks.” 
 
For the unversed, this is not the first time that West Indies skipper’s bowling action has been questioned. In 2019, Brathwaite was reported for his action. His action had come under scrutiny in 2017 as well. The International Cricket Council (ICC), however, found nothing wrong in the bowling action on both occasions.

Virat Kohli did not officially complain about Kraigg Brathwaite's bowling action to the umpire and that is why the West Indies captain was not stopped from bowling. At the end of the second day's play, Brathwaite remained wicketless having conceded 12 runs in his six overs. Kohli came out to bat after Shubman Gill’s dismissal for six runs in the 79th over. At stumps, Kohli was unbeaten on 36 off 96 balls.

Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar revealed that the current crop of Indian batters have not approached him for inputs in order to rectify their mistakes. Gavaskar, also known as the Little Master, mentioned that yesteryear superstars such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman used to approach him during their playing days, however, the same is not the case in current times.

Gavaskar told&nbsp;The Indian Express,&nbsp;"If the batters are making the same mistakes over and over again, you need to ask what has happened with your technique. How have you tried to improve the batter? Have you tried to tell him, maybe take a different guard? Don't take a leg-stump guard, take a middle and off-stump guard."

Recalling how he came to former Indian opener Virender Sehwag's aid, Gavaskar stated, "I remember once calling Virender Sehwag out of the blue. He had not been scoring too many runs. I told him, 'Viru, just try the off-stump guard'. So he asked, 'Why, Sunny bhai?' So I told him, 'Look, you aren't known for great footwork. What is happening is, sometimes when you are getting out, you are reaching out for the delivery and it makes things difficult for you. So, maybe if you take the off-stump guard, you straight away know that the ball is outside the off-stump. That is where the coach can come in with his inputs."

"They just have to keep playing. They will have to keep performing in whatever chances they get. It happens all the time. Only 15 can be picked in the squad, and 11 can play. So, somebody has to miss out. I am pretty sure their time will come," he added.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has said that based on his current form,&nbsp;Virat Kohli doesn’t belong to Fab Four anymore, a quartet that includes Joe Root, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith. These stalwarts have excelled in Tests, particularly in the past decade.&nbsp;However, with Virat going through a lean patch since 2020, which also saw a dip in his average under 50 for the first time in many years, Aakash feels the former India captain is running behind.

As things stand, Kane Williamson is sidelined due to a leg injury he suffered in IPL 2023 opener against Chennai Super Kings, while both Root and Smith are playing in the Ashes – wherein both have notched a hundred in two Tests played. Virat, on the other hand, is preparing for the West Indies series, having last scored a hundred in Tests in March early this year.

Since 2020, Virat has not been among runs, let alone hitting centuries at will the way he used to do before. During India’s first Pink-Ball Test against Bangladesh in 2019, Virat hit a hundred at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and it took&nbsp;the chase maestro around three years to complete his next three-digit score in international cricket.

Speaking on the same lines on his YouTube channel, Aakash said much like Kohli, David Warner, a veteran batter, is also going through the same patch,&nbsp;having attained a poor record against England’s Stuart Broad, getting out to him for the record 17th time.

Chopra said Virat, in current form, is out of Fab 4; as a result, it is now just Fab 3.

“Kane and Joe Root, no question about it. Steve Smith, averaging 50 with six hundreds, no question about him. But David Warner and Virat Kohli, at this point in time, are not a part of Fab 4. There’s no Fab 4 right now, there’s Fab 3," Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

A future superstar in the making, Tilak Varma received his maiden India call-up for the five-match T20Is against West Indies. Playing for South Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy, Varma revealed receiving advice from stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and how he dreams about playing for India and bailing them out of trouble in crunch games.

India captain Rohit Sharma, who also leads Mumbai Indians, a franchise Tilak Varma plays for, showered praises on the 20-year-old last year, predicting him to burst onto the international scene sooner than expected.&nbsp;

"Having such a calm head is never easy, and in my opinion, I feel he's going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon," Rohit said about Varma in May 2022.

One year later, the prediction came true as Varma, alongside young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal got their maiden call-ups to the Indian team.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing Duleep Trophy semis against North Zone in Bengaluru, Tilak revealed the India call-up wasn't on his mind currently, and when he received the information of&nbsp;his selection (from his childhood friend), and informed his parents, they turned emotional and shed happy tears while being on a video call with him.

"I was not thinking about the national side," Varma said. "My mom and dad were crying on video call yesterday; they were very emotional. My childhood friend called me [saying] you have got selected. That was the time — around 8 o'clock [pm] — that I knew I was selected."

Thanks to the platform that IPL is, Tilak, quite early in his career, was able to rub shoulders with the legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit and Virat. Opening up on receiving advice from them, Tilak said,&nbsp;"I have heard a lot from Rohit bhai and Sachin sir, and also from Virat [Kohli] bhai. Suryakumar Yadav’s appointment as vice-captain praised by Akash Chopra

The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Tuesday (June 27), released the full schedule for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Rohit Sharma-led India will open their campaign on October 08, in Chennai, as they face Australia, whereas defending champions England will open their tournament by locking horns with last edition's runners-up New Zealand on October 05 in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the much-awaited India-Pakistan clash is set to take place on October 15 in Ahmedabad.

The last time both sides faced each other in an ICC event&nbsp;was during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. Back then, Rohit &amp; Co. emerged on top on the last ball by four wickets in a chase of 160 at the MCG, Melbourne. Opting to bowl first, India rode on Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya's three-for each to restrict Pakistan at 159 for 8. In reply, India were on the back foot and reduced to 31 for 4 before Virat Kohli's masterclass (82 not out) and Hardik Pandya's 40 (37) to chase down the target on the last delivery of the contest.

With two needed off the last two balls, India lost Dinesh Karthik as R Ashwin joined Kohli in the middle. "I don't believe too much in last time, first time. I believe in performances. I think they are 34-35, I don't know what's going to happen in the next World Cup. There are world tournaments every year - T20 cricket, 50-over cricket. It's not like as in the past when we started - one every four years and then the Champions Trophy came in. So it's about performances and I am sure Rohit as captain and Virat will be wanting to make it a big one not from a personal point of view but from winning it. I think that's the biggest," Ganguly told&nbsp;Star Sports.

Rohit and Kohli have been the backbone of Team India's batting order across formats for over a decade. The two will be desperate to lead the charge once again and take India to the title later this year in the ODI WC.&nbsp;

Recently, Ishant Sharma -- veteran India pacer and Kohli's childhood friend -- narrated an unheard tale of Kohli and even lauded him for his inspiring transformation.

Speaking to Ranveer Allahbadia on his YouTube channel, Ishant said that he has seen the 'party phase' and the 'tattoo phase' of his Delhi teammate Kohli. "We were playing a U-19 match in Kolkata. He was batting overnight, yet partied all night and the next day he scored 250. I have seen that phase of Kohli as well. The best thing about him, according to me, is how he changed his physical aspect, starting in 2012, after the World Cup. He was training, but because of his diet, his mental strength and cricket, in general, went to a different level," Ishant stated.

Ishant, a veteran of 105 Tests, further lauded Kohli and added, "Sachin [Tendulkar] paaji used to say hope is not a word, it's a feeling. But if you speak to Virat Kohli, the word 'hope' does not exist in his dictionary. His dictionary only has 'belief'. If you have belief, you can do anything. He is so intense," the senior pacer added.

So, it was not quite surprising when former Pakistan U-19 cricketer Shayan Jahangir expressed his dream of playing against Kohli. Jahangir, who is currently representing the senior cricket team of the United States of America, said that it is his “ultimate goal” to play against the former India skipper. “To play against Virat Kohli, that's my ultimate goal. Play against him, and show there's another batter on the block, waiting for the opportunities in all these big leagues," Jahangir was quoted as saying to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
