Researchers develop 'male pill', an oral contraceptive that successfully stops sperm in its track

The little tuxedo-wearing penguins of today were once huge. Don't believe us? Well, a new study has revealed this amazing bit of information. The flightless bird that today, on average, weighs 22 to 45 kilogrammes, was once a whopping 154 to 159 kg; this makes it thrice the weight of the Emperor Penguin, the largest member of the species today. The now-extinct penguin species, called Kumimanu fordycei or K fordycei, inhabited New Zealand about 57 million years ago, which means they existed a few years after dinosaurs were wiped off the face of this planet. The findings by the international team of researchers have been published in the Journal of Paleontology.

The fossil of this penguin and another species were discovered a few years back, between 2016 and 2017. They were among the 57 million-year-old beach boulders in North Otago, on New Zealand's South Island.

Scientists discover fossil of giant 150kg penguin that walked the Earth 57 million years ago

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition got underway, in Pakistan, on February 13 (Monday). All eyes are many marquee players in the tournament who will look to put up a solid show whereas many discarded cricketers will hope for a memorable run to make a comeback into their respective national sides. Among the discarded players, Umar Akmal will hope for a smooth run in PSL 2023, where he is representing the Quetta Gladiators.

Ahead of the Gladiators' opening clash, where they face Md Rizwan-starrer Multan Sultans, Umar lashed out at a reporter when he was asked about his fitness and knack of uploading videos on Tik Tok. To this, Umar snapped at the journalist and said, "It is my personal life and it is in front of everyone. It would be better if you refrain from asking such questions."

Further, Umar also asserted that nothing is wrong with his fitness, claiming to be “superfit”. “Fitness is in front of you. I am not the only one. If you ask other players about it, they will also answer it in the same way,” he said. “I have worked very hard on my fitness and I am feeling super fit,” the swashbuckling right-hander added. Here's the video:

India had another memorable day in the first Test versus Australia, in Nagpur. After commencing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 edition in style by folding Pat Cummins & Co. for 177 on Day 1, on Thursday (February 09), Rohit Sharma-led India rode on skipper's 120, Ravindra Jadeja's 66 not out and Axar Patel's 52* to reach 321 for 7; leading by 144 runs.

Rohit resumed the day's play at 56 and went on to slam a sublime 212-ball 120, laced with 15 fours and two sixes. He showed grit, determination and class during his knock but could have missed out on reaching his ninth Test hundred when he had a terrible mix-up with his predecessor Virat Kohli for the fourth-wicket stand. The incident took place during the 48th over, bowled by Nathan Lyon.

Kohli nudged a delivery to mid-wicket and began to run before realising there is no run on offer. By then, Rohit had come halfway down when he turned and dived to save himself. Hitman was lucky that the throw wasn't a direct hit otherwise he would've made the long walk back to the pavillion. As Rohit survived, Kohli apologised to him to which the Indian captain had a heartfelt reaction. Here's the video:

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2022/23 edition commenced on Thursday morning (February 09) in Nagpur with Pat Cummins & Co. opting to bat first. However, Rohit Sharma-led India got off to a dream start as the pace duo -- Md Siraj and Md Shami -- struck early to reduce the tourists to 2/2. While Australia went to lunch 76 for 2, thanks to a solid third-wicket stand brewing between Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, India could have got rid of Smith had Virat Kohli held onto a catch in the slip cordon.

The incident took place on the first ball of the 15th over, bowled by Axar Patel. Smith went for a drive off Axar but got a thick edge. Kohli, stationed at first slip, didn't anticipate the pace of the ball and was late to react to it. Hence, he made a mess of the chance and gave a reprieve to the dangerman Smith. Here's the video of Kohli giving a lifeline to Smith:

The internet is abuzz with mentions of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) a.k.a., the green comet, which on Wednesday could be seen with the naked eye.

As per NASA, the comet paid our planet a visit after a good 50,000 years. It was a rare feast for stargazers and astronomers alike as people around the globe witnessed the astronomical event.

The comet passed just 26 million miles (or 42 million kilometres) from Earth.

Watch | WION Fineprint: Rare Green comet visible from Earth after 50,000 years It was a one-in-a-million sight — in a very literal sense — as estimates say that the next possible sighting won't happen for millions of years. The comet passed just 26 million miles (or 42 million kilometres) from Earth. Also read | James Webb Space Telescope found water ice in the rings of a distant asteroid For those of us who were otherwise occupied or plain lazy to go out and try to spot the comet, some stargazers have managed to capture videos and images of the amazing sight. How young is too young for social media exposure? Here's what a US health expert says

TikTok is under scrutiny in many countries. There are fears that China is using the app as a surveillance weapon. And now the app has been slammed for its unethical practices. Here's more.

TikTok employees can decide what goes viral | Tech It Out

Gone are the days when fashionistas, celebrities and influencers preferred three to four layers of full coverage foundation, topped up with a concealer, contour, baking powder, and a ton of other makeup products that have largely occupied our beauty cabinet's space in the last few years. The beauty industry is rapidly moving towards natural makeup, clean beauty, and sustainability. And, ongoing trends are reflecting this sudden change.

After skinimalism, glass skin, and other viral TikTok trends that are all about embracing your imperfections and being authentic, we have 'Snatural' making waves on the internet.

In short, let's rejoice because lifted contoured makeup (the natural version) is back with a vengeance and we can, once again, start faking a facelift with makeup. Let's find out what the TikTok trend is all about!

What is viral beauty trend 'Snatural' all about?

Things to keep in mind before, during and after going 'Snatural'

What is viral beauty trend 'Snatural' all about?

Who doesn't like a snatched look, sharp jawline, lifted face, and siren eyes? It's the go-to look for celebrities in 2023. It has also made several appearances on runways and is all the rage amongst MUAs currently. But what if I tell you that you can look snatched and natural, at the same time, with half the amount of makeup products that people usually use? Well, 'Snatural' makeup trend is here to help you do exactly that.

Popular Makeup Artist Chloe Winter was the first to coin the term 'Snatural'. In a conversation with Grazia, she spoke in detail about the makeup technique and enlightened makeup aficionados about the same.

While speaking to the publication, she shared, "It's the ultimate soft glam. We've gone with a winged look, a glowy, glossy look, and a natural, minimal look with no lashes and clean skin, we like a really strong eye focus that draws the eyes up. We call it 'Snatural' - snatched but natural."

The MUA advised people to use a little cream highlighter near the cheekbones, along the jaw and blend into the hairline to get a gorgeous effect that is intended to serve as a five-minute facelift. Quick tip: Use softer, warmer tones for a subtle finish.

Recently, Huda Beauty owner Huda Kattan also gave her nod to the beauty trend and even shared a video tutorial explaining the steps to a perfect 'Snatch'. In the YouTube clip, she shared that it is her all-time favourite technique to snatch her face with just two products, and sometimes even without a contour. She first spotted this lifting hack on beauty influencer Megha Singh's TikTok account.

Things to keep in mind before, during and after going 'Snatural'

Instead of going crazy with dark contour shades, you have to use baking powder and concealer for the 'Snatural' look.

For this look, you must have a good concealer that has medium to full coverage and it should be one shade lighter to your skin tone.

When choosing a concealer, make sure that you buy something that matches your skin's undertone.

Avoid using liquid illuminators or strobes with this look.

Use banana baking powder if you have a wheatish skin tone and white baking powder if you are pale.

Step-by-step guide for 'Snatural' makeup technique

Step 1 - Take your concealer and starting from the area where your eyeliner ends, apply the product diagonally, creating a lift. (See the picture below for reference)
Step 2 - To lift the cheek area, apply concealer near the smile lines. And, don't forget to apply some concealer next to your lips and on your chin.
Step 3 - It's time to blend! Take a brush or beauty blender to blend everything.
Step 4 - If you like to apply blush, you can apply it now. Just make sure that it is applied on top of your cheekbones.
Step 5 - Baking begins! For the fifth step, take the baking powder and apply it to the areas you previously applied concealer.

Is there a phrase that can save your relationship? If not save, at least enrich it. This might surprise you, but there exists a phrase like that; it's 'thank you'. 'Super exciting' find: Researchers discover four species of dinosaurs, including a potentially new one

Dinosaurs inhabited this planet millions of years ago and in the last 200 or so years, humanity has found much evidence of the mighty beasts. You would think that given that the very first evidence of dinosaurs was found in the early 1600s, we would know almost everything there is to know about them.

However, that's far from the truth: we are still finding surprising and fascinating discoveries that add to our knowledge. For example, a scientist recently spotted an extremely rare find that tells us more about what these beasts ate; this time it's a mammal on the menu.

In the first such find of the 21st century Hans Larsson, a professor of biology at McGill University’s Redpath Museum in Montreal while visiting a museum collection in China, spotted a mammal's foot preserved inside the fossilised guts of a Microraptor zhaoianus.

This is only the 21st known example of a fossilised dinosaur and its last meal. The fossil was discovered in the early 2000s in Liaoning in northeastern China.

The Microraptor zhaoianus was a small, up to three metres long feathered therapod, i.e. a small dinosaur that walked on two legs.

"At first, I couldn’t believe it. There was a tiny rodent-like mammal foot about a centimetre (0.4 inches) long perfectly preserved inside a Microraptor skeleton," said Larsson, as per a CNN report.

What makes the discovery so amazing is that previous fossilised specimens of the species showed proof of them consuming fish, birds and lizards. However, "this new find adds a small mammal to their diet, suggesting these dinosaurs were opportunistic and not picky eaters,” says Larrson.

The research that has been published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology talks of generalist predators like foxes and crows as the stabilisers of today's ecosystems. It adds that the recently uncovered evidence may prove that Microraptor zhaoianus and other dinosaurs from the therapod family, which included the famed Tyrannosaurus rex, may have served a similar function back when the mighty beasts roamed the planet.

China launches commemorative gold and silver coins to celebrate completion of Tiangong space station

On Wednesday (January 11), India's current head coach Rahul Dravid is celebrating his 50th birthday. Dravid, known as 'The Wall', is one of the finest batters of all-time and a legend of the game. Representing India in 164 Tests, 344 ODIs and a solitary T20I, he returned with 24,208 international runs including 48 hundreds. After a stellar run at the international level, Dravid is currently serving as the head coach of the Indian senior men's team till the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Over the years, Dravid entertained fans with his blazing knocks. One of his most special innings came during India's historic Kolkata Test win over Australia during the 2000-01 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. Back then, the Sourav Ganguly-led Indian team were up against a daunting Steve Waugh-led Australia. Losing the series opener in Mumbai by ten wickets, India were on the back foot in the second and penultimate Test in Kolkata. After Australia posted 445 and dismissed India for a paltry 171, the hosts were following-on and seemed down and out at 232/4. Just then, VVS Laxman (281) and Dravid (180) stitched a mammoth 376-run fifth-wicket stand as India declared at 651/7; setting an improbable 384-run target for the visitors.

Harbhajan Singh, who claimed a hat-trick in the first essay, returned with 6 for 73 and Sachin Tendulkar chipped in with three scalps as Australia were dismissed for 212 to lose by 171 runs. This remains one of India's best wins in whites. After the victory, Dravid, Tendulkar & Co. went bonkers and poured champagne on teammates in the dressing room to celebrate the special win. Here's the video:

Novak Djokovic is gearing up for the Australian Open 2023 edition, which gets underway on January 16. Ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year, the Serbian and former world number one started his new year in style by winning the Adelaide International. In the final, he faced American player Sebastian Korda and while he lost the opening set, Djokovic used his experience to come from behind and win the match, and title, 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. He, thus, claimed his 92nd career title (tied with arch-rival Rafael Nadal).

While the match ended in a favourable result for Djokovic, he once again made heads turn with one of his gestures on the court. After going down in the first set, the 35-year-old was seen directing his brother and his agents to leave the box.
A controversy erupted on the opening day of the third and final Test between Australia and South Africa, at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Sydney. After opting to bat first, Australia was going strong at 130 for 1, in the second session, when Marnus Labuschagne (batting on 70) edged one, off Marco Jansen, and the ball went to the slip cordon with Simon Harmer holding onto a low catch. While the umpire Paul Reiffel sent the decision to the third umpire, his soft signal was out. After a lot of replays from the third umpire, Richard Kettleborough, from different angles, the decision was overruled with Labuschagne surviving eventually.

The Dean Elgar-led South African side had started celebrating before the decision went upstairs and were shellshocked by the final call. While it looked like Hammer had done enough to catch the ball, some angles suggested that some part of the ball was touching the ground. Eventually, Labuschagne was given not-out, upsetting the Proteas. Here's the video of the controversial catch:

After the end of the day's play, with Australia 147 for 2, pacer Anrich Nortje gave his verdict with regard to the controversial catch. He said, "All of us thought it was out so I’m annoyed. I’m convinced it went straight in (to Harmer’s hands). I think when you look at the angles, to us, it looks like his fingers are underneath it. Unfortunately, we didn’t get that one and I think it would have been a big one at that stage."

Many other cricketers joined in and shared their take with regard to the controversial catch. England's Test captain Ben Stokes tweeted, "ICC should get rid of the soft signal and let the 3rd umpire who has all the technology to make the decision when the on-field umpires send it upstairs, all the controversy is always around the soft signal given." India's former spinner Harbhajan Singh replied saying, "Absolutely waste of time (soft signals)what is the point giving a soft signal when you are referring it to the 3rd umpire anyways .. let the 3rd umpire give a decision." Even former SA captain Faf du Plessis felt that the final decision should've gone in favour of the bowling side as the soft signal was out.

Labuschagne, nonetheless, eventually fell for 79 as Australia ended a rain-hit Day 1 at 147-2 with Usman Khawaja unbeaten on 54. The batter also opened up on the catch and said, "Regardless of whether it's caught or not, with technology, there are so many ones that people are adamant they have caught - and Simon said 'I've caught that' - and in the old rules of catching it, because you felt like your fingers are under it, absolutely, but with the new footage those are so scrutinised because you see so many angles. Especially that side-on angle, makes it look really bad, then the front-on angle actually looks pretty good."
