<p>On the Western front, Russia is battling the Ukrainian troops since it announced the invasion of its neighbouring country over eight months ago and seems to be stuttering, having failed to gauge the kind of support West would pile up against it in the war. In a strange coincidence, after having rolled out conscription that drew wide condemnation and protests within&nbsp;the country, Moscow has rolled out an apparent Soviet-era training in schools that is aimed at training kids in weapon assembly. Parents are angry over the move of reinstating the training.&nbsp;</p>

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he is ready to have “genuine peace talks” with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin but laid out certain conditions. His shift in stance comes after the West nudged the Ukrainian leader to initiate discussions with Putin to achieve a long-lasting solution to the conflict. Among the conditions set out by Zelensky include returning Ukrainian control over its territories, ensure reparations for destruction and bringing to justice perpetrators of war crimes. However, it is believed that Russia would not agree to the preconditions listed out by the Ukrainian leader and hence the probability of the talks being held is pretty low. As temperatures drop below freezing in eastern Ukraine, people are preparing for harshest winter in decades. Watch full video to know more.

Ukrainians prepare for harsh wartime winter

<p>Ukraine on Monday (November 7) accused Russia of looting homes in Kherson and occupying them with troops in civilian clothes to prepare for street fighting. Both, Russia and Ukraine are predicting that fight to capture Kherson will be one of the war's most important battles. Kherson is the only regional capital Russia has been able to capture since it invaded Ukraine in Ferbruary this year.</p>

<p>Kherson, with a pre-war population of nearly 300,000, has been left cold and dark after power and water were cut to the surrounding area over the past 48 hours, both sides said.</p>

<p>Russia-installed officials are blaming Ukrainian 'sabotage' while Ukrainian officials are saying that the Russians have dismantled 1.5 km of power lines. Ukraine says electricity wouldn't probably return until Ukrainian forces recapture the area.</p>

<p>Kherson lies in the only pocket of Russian-held territory on the west bank of the Dnipro River that bisects Ukraine. Recapturing it has been the main focus of Ukraine's counter-offensive in the south which accelerated since the start of October.</p>

<p>Reuters said that the situation inside Kherson could not be independently confirmed. Ukrainian forces on the nearby frontline have told Reuters in recent days they expect a bitter fight against Russian troops, who cannot hold the city but are determined to exact a blood price before being forced out.</p>

<p>"While Kherson residents are being forcibly deported from their homes, talking about 'evacuation', ru-military and FSB officers are doing what they love most — robbing their houses," Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak tweeted on Monday. "Robbery of those whom they came to 'protect' — the best 'Russian world' illustration."</p>

<p>Ukraine's military said in an overnight update that Russian forces, "disguised in civilian clothes, occupy the premises of civilians and strengthen positions inside for conducting street battles." It also said Russian journalists were preparing to stage videos accusing Ukraine of hurting civilians.</p>

Ukraine on Monday (November 7) accused Russia of looting homes in Kherson and occupying them with troops in civilian clothes to prepare for street fighting. Both, Russia and Ukraine are predicting that fight to capture Kherson will be one of the war's most important battles. Kherson is the only regional capital Russia has been able to capture since it invaded Ukraine in Ferbruary this year. Kherson, with a pre-war population of nearly 300,000, has been left cold and dark after power and water were cut to the surrounding area over the past 48 hours, both sides said. Russia-installed officials are blaming Ukrainian 'sabotage' while Ukrainian officials are saying that the Russians have dismantled 1.5 km of power lines. Ukraine says electricity wouldn't probably return until Ukrainian forces recapture the area. Watch | Russia-Ukraine crisis | Pro-Kremlin leaders claim 'no power and water available' × Kherson lies in the only pocket of Russian-held territory on the west bank of the Dnipro River that bisects Ukraine. Recapturing it has been the main focus of Ukraine's counter-offensive in the south which accelerated since the start of October. Reuters said that the situation inside Kherson could not be independently confirmed. Ukrainian forces on the nearby frontline have told Reuters in recent days they expect a bitter fight against Russian troops, who cannot hold the city but are determined to exact a blood price before being forced out. "While Kherson residents are being forcibly deported from their homes, talking about 'evacuation', ru-military and FSB officers are doing what they love most — robbing their houses," Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak tweeted on Monday. "Robbery of those whom they came to 'protect' — the best 'Russian world' illustration." Also Read | Russia-Ukraine conflict: Tears flow as warring nations exchange prisoners of war Ukraine's military said in an overnight update that Russian forces, "disguised in civilian clothes, occupy the premises of civilians and strengthen positions inside for conducting street battles." Japan holds international fleet review amid rising East Asia tension

<p dir="ltr">"Winter is coming. We know what's coming with it," a fictional character Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen) said this line in the popular TV show "Game of Thrones" to reflect on the adversities that must be fought with all the strength to stop the "Long Night" from descending upon the world.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Ironically, the line fits aptly with the current situation in Europe, which is facing a massive energy crisis due to the Russia-Ukraine war, and the situation is likely to worsen as the winter season approaches with shortages of oil, gas and food.</p>

<p dir="ltr">This winter is likely to be particularly harsh for Europe, with Siberian winds expected to bring unpleasant cold conditions. The important question here is as to what the West will do, or in GoT's context, what "Westeros" will do if another harsh winter like the one in&nbsp;2010–2011&nbsp; happens again.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Or how will the West cope if a protracted Arctic blast like the "Beast from the East" that swept through western Europe in 2018 comes again? It would make it harder for the EU to stand with Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report, which has also been published by several media outlets, states that the Russian president is "regularly stuffed with all kinds of heavy steroids" in order to ease his battle with his disease.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report also attached videos and photos of the 70-year-old Russian leader, who has been routinely seen twitching and unsteady during several public appearances.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The bombshell email from an insider claimed: "I can confirm he has been diagnosed with early stage Parkinson’s disease, but it's already progressing.&nbsp;</p>

Now, a recent report suggests that the Russian president is apparently battling Parkinson's disease and pancreatic cancer. Citing leaked Kremlin documents, the British tabloid newspaper The Sun reported that Putin is currently under medication. The report, which has also been published by several media outlets, states that the Russian president is "regularly stuffed with all kinds of heavy steroids" in order to ease his battle with his disease. The report also attached videos and photos of the 70-year-old Russian leader, who has been routinely seen twitching and unsteady during several public appearances. Russia-Ukraine war LIVE updates: Russia could leave grain deal again if Ukraine 'violates' security guarantees Putin's health has been a matter of speculation, especially, during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which led to massive food and fuel crisis across the world. The Sun claimed it has seen emails from a Russian intelligence source, which can reveal that Putin is suffering from both early-stage Parkinson's besides pancreatic cancer. The report also mentioned that the cancer is now spreading to other parts of his body. The bombshell email from an insider claimed: "I can confirm he has been diagnosed with early stage Parkinson’s disease, but it's already progressing. The source said that "this fact will be denied in every possible way and hidden." "It not only causes a lot of pain, Putin has a state of puffiness of the face and other side effects - including memory lapses. In his close circle, there are rumours that in addition to pancreatic cancer, which is gradually spreading, Putin also has prostate cancer," the intelligence source added. Similar claims have been made previously also, but Kremlin officials always deny the reports and say that there is nothing wrong with their leader. Russia resumes support for Ukraine’s grain corridor as Turkey guarantees shipments to Africa first

<p>Poland's defence minister on Wednesday (November 3) said that orders have been given to the authorities to construct a razor-wire fence on its border with Russian exclave Kaliningrad. The report about the construction of a wall come amid concerns that the exclave might become a channel for illegal migration in Poland.</p>

<p>In Kaliningrad, Russia has a significant military presence which is a tension for entire Europe, especially amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The exclave is located on the Baltic coast between Poland and Lithuania. It is separated from Belarus by a border corridor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mariusz Blaszczak, the defence minister of the country, said at a news conference that the construction of the temporary 2.5-metre high and three-metre deep barrier will start immediately. He also added that it will be similar to the border that Poland set up along with Belarus last year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Blaszczak mentioned that the tensions are escalating over a decision by Russia's aviation authority announced recently to launch flights from the Middle East and North Africa to Kaliningrad.&nbsp;</p>

Poland's defence minister on Wednesday (November 3) said that orders have been given to the authorities to construct a razor-wire fence on its border with Russian exclave Kaliningrad. The report about the construction of a wall come amid concerns that the exclave might become a channel for illegal migration in Poland. In Kaliningrad, Russia has a significant military presence which is a tension for entire Europe, especially amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The exclave is located on the Baltic coast between Poland and Lithuania. It is separated from Belarus by a border corridor. Mariusz Blaszczak, the defence minister of the country, said at a news conference that the construction of the temporary 2.5-metre high and three-metre deep barrier will start immediately. He also added that it will be similar to the border that Poland set up along with Belarus last year. Russia declared on Saturday (October 29) that it was suspending its participation in grain deal that allowed export of Ukrainian grain. Russia blamed alleged drone attack on Russian ships in Crimea as the reason for its decision. "In light of the terrorist act carried out by the Kyiv regime with the participation of British experts against ships of the Black Sea fleet and civilian vessels involved in the security of grain corridors, Russia suspends its participation in the implementation of the agreement on the export of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports," the Russian Defence Ministry announced on Telegram. Ukraine is often called the bread-basket of Europe. The initial months of Russian invasion on Ukraine had raised the spectre of global food shortage as grain shipments were not able to leave Ukrainian ports. The grain deal, brokered by the UN and Turkiye, was able to establish a safe passage for grain shipments. The safe passage may no longer exist following latest Russian stance. Saturday appeared to be a day of major announcements and allegations from the Russian camp. Russia alleged that British navy was responsible for damage to Nord Stream gas pipeline. This was first direct allegation from Russia against a major NATO member. British defence ministry refuted the Russian claims. "To detract from their disastrous handling of the illegal invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defence is resorting to peddling false claims of an epic scale," the ministry tweeted.
