As Ukraine claimed to have liberated Kyiv region, the US said it is working with its allies to send "longer-range anti-aircraft systems, artillery systems and coastal defence systems" to Ukraine.

Russian troops selling 'looted' goods in Belarus bazaar, alleges Ukraine

Ukraine has accused Russia of taking children hostage and using them as “human shields” while moving around their convoys near capital Kyiv.

During a media briefing on Friday, Ukraine's defence ministry spokesperson Col. Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, said, “The enemies have been using Ukrainian children as a living shield when moving their convoys, their vehicles, according to reports by local civilians.

He added, "Occupiers use those children as hostages as a guarantee that local civilians will not provide the enemy's coordinates to Ukrainian defenders."

It has further been claimed that the Russian forces had been taking children hostages in various conflict sites to deter locals from giving their coordinates to the Ukrainian forces.

“Cases of using children as cover are recorded in Sumy, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia&nbsp;oblasts [regions],” said Lyudmila Denisova, Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman, reports The Guardian.

The spokesperson further said at least 412 children had been injured or killed since the invasion began in February, of which 158 lost their lives.

Ukraine's foreign affairs ministry spokesperson also made similar accusations on Russian forces, claiming that their troops have been looting homes during their retreat from Kyiv.

Meanwhile, Russia continued with its offensive against the Ukrainian forces despite announcing that it would “drastically” scale down its troops.

On Saturday morning, Russian airstrikes hit Ukraine's strategic Black Sea port Odessa, after Kyiv had warned that Russia was trying to consolidate its troops in the south.

"Odessa was attacked from the air," Ukraine Minister Anton Herashchenko said.

Russian troops have left scenes of devastation in the city of Bucha, just outside capital Kyiv, where nearly 300 people have been buried in a mass grave, mayor Anatoly Fedoruk told AFP.

"All these people were shot, killed, in the back of the head," Fedoruk said.

Russia-Ukraine war: Kyiv accuses Moscow of taking children hostage and using them as shields

Amid the fighting in Ukraine, the country's defence minister Ganna Maliar said Ukraine has regained control of "the whole Kyiv region".

"Irpin, Bucha, Gostomel and the whole Kyiv region were liberated from the invader," Maliar said even as the towns faced heavy destruction due to continued Russian shelling.

The mayor of Bucha said at least &nbsp;280 people were buried in mass graves as reports claimed there were heavily mined areas in Irpin.

Ukraine had said earlier that Russian forces were steadily withdrawing from northern areas however they had begun to focus their attention&nbsp;on the east and south of the country.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's negotiator David Arakhamia said Russia had "verbally" agreed to Ukraine's proposals however he added that there is&nbsp;"no official confirmation in writing".

Russian shelling in Ukraine continues despite peace talks

Amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov will be in Delhi from March 31 to April 1.

The Russian foreign minister will be in Delhi on a day when UK's foreign secretary Elizabeth Truss will be in the Indian capital to&nbsp;hold&nbsp;talks with EAM Jaishankar.

The ministry of external affairs in a statement said, "Truss will hold bilateral consultations with external affairs minister, Dr S. Jaishankar on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest."&nbsp;

Truss will also participate in the inaugural edition of the India-UK Strategic Futures Forum, a track 1.5 dialogue between the two countries hosted by the Indian Council of World Affairs and Policy Exchange, UK.

Lavrov's visit will be the first high-level visit by a Russian official to India since February 24 when the invasion began. The invasion has changed the global geopolitical calculus with the West and Russia at loggerheads.

New Delhi has been engaged by both sides amid the war&nbsp;even as it has been able to display its strategic autonomy. At the United Nations, India abstained from voting&nbsp;on the Ukraine-Russia resolutions on the West-backed resolutions or more recently on the Russia-backed resolution on Ukraine even as it has been calling for direct talks between Moscow and Kyiv.

EAM Jaishankar in the Parliament said, "We have expressed deep concern at the worsening situation and called for an immediate cessation of violence and end to all hostilities."

Both Indian and Russian foreign ministers had spoken to each other on February 24 and since then there has been Russian outreach to Delhi in many ways, including Russian FM Lavrov&nbsp;meeting envoys of BRICS countries including Indian envoy Pavan Kapoor.

Last week, Russian deputy foreign minister Andrei Rudenko had met the Indian envoy to Russia Kapoor to brief​ him on the situation in Ukraine. Rudenko has been part of the Russian delegation that held talks with the Ukraine side.

Later this year PM Modi is expected to travel to Russia for the annual India-Russia summit.

Russia's deputy defence minister Alexander Fomin said its forces are ready to reduce military activity in the areas around Kyiv and Chernigiv as chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky said there had been a "meaningful discussion" with Ukrainian officials in Istanbul.

"After today's meaningful discussion we have agreed on and proposed a solution, according to which the meeting of the heads of state is possible simultaneously with the foreign ministers initialling the treaty," Medinsky said.
