Rapper's Delight as New York celebrates 50 years of hip-hop

<p>In a dimly lit recording studio in Seoul, producers at the K-pop&nbsp;music&nbsp;label&nbsp;that brought the world-hit boy group BTS is using artificial intelligence to meld a South Korean singer's voice with those of native speakers in five other languages.</p>

<p>The technology enabled&nbsp;HYBE, South Korea's largest&nbsp;music&nbsp;label, to release a track by singer MIDNATT in six languages – Korean, English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese in May.</p>

<p>Some K-pop&nbsp;singers have released songs in English and Japanese in addition to their native Korean, but applying the new technology for a simultaneous six-language release is a global first, according to&nbsp;HYBE, and could pave the way for it to be used by more&nbsp;popular acts.</p>

<p>In a before-and-after comparison shown to Reuters, an elongated vowel sound was added to the word "twisted" in the English lyrics, for example, to sound more natural while no detectable change was made to the singer's voice.</p>

<p>Using deep learning powered by the Neural Analysis and Synthesis (NANSY) framework developed by Supertone makes the song sound more natural than using non-AI software, Supertone chief operating officer Choi Hee-doo said.</p>

<p>HYBE&nbsp;announced the 45 billion won ($36 million) acquisition of Supertone in January.&nbsp;HYBE&nbsp;said it planned to make some of the AI technology used in MIDNATT's song accessible to creators and the public, but did not specify if it would charge fees.</p>

<p>'IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE'</p>

<p>MIDNATT said using AI had allowed him a "wider spectrum of artistic expressions."</p>

<p>"I feel that the language barrier has been lifted and it's much easier for global fans to have an immersive experience with my&nbsp;music," he said in a statement.</p>

<p>While the technology is not new, it is an innovative way to use AI in&nbsp;music, said Valerio Velardo, director of The Sound of AI, a Spain-based consulting service for AI&nbsp;music&nbsp;and audio.</p>

<p>Not only professional&nbsp;musicians but also a wider&nbsp;population will benefit from AI&nbsp;music&nbsp;technology in the long term, Velardo said.</p>

<p>"It's going to lower the barrier of&nbsp;music&nbsp;creation. It's a little bit like Instagram for pictures but in the case of&nbsp;music."</p>

<p>For now,&nbsp;HYBE's pronunciation correction technology takes "weeks or months" to do its job but when the process speeds up, it could serve a wider range of purposes such as interpreting in video conferences, said Choi Jin-woo, the producer of MIDNATT's "Masquerade" who goes by the name Hitchhiker.</p>

Using deep learning powered by the Neural Analysis and Synthesis (NANSY) framework developed by Supertone makes the song sound more natural than using non-AI software, Supertone chief operating officer Choi Hee-doo said. HYBE announced the 45 billion won ($36 million) acquisition of Supertone in January. HYBE said it planned to make some of the AI technology used in MIDNATT's song accessible to creators and the public, but did not specify if it would charge fees. 'IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE' MIDNATT said using AI had allowed him a "wider spectrum of artistic expressions." "I feel that the language barrier has been lifted and it's much easier for global fans to have an immersive experience with my music," he said in a statement. While the technology is not new, it is an innovative way to use AI in music, said Valerio Velardo, director of The Sound of AI, a Spain-based consulting service for AI music and audio. Not only professional musicians but also a wider population will benefit from AI music technology in the long term, Velardo said. "It's going to lower the barrier of music creation. It's a little bit like Instagram for pictures but in the case of music." For now, HYBE's pronunciation correction technology takes "weeks or months" to do its job but when the process speeds up, it could serve a wider range of purposes such as interpreting in video conferences, said Choi Jin-woo, the producer of MIDNATT's "Masquerade" who goes by the name Hitchhiker. Loyal dog in Puducherry town mirrors Hachiko's devotion after owner's suspected suicide

<p>Age may be "just" a number for the world, but in China, for those over 35, it can become the basis for "discrimination" and rejection from jobs and even hostels.</p>

<p>Recently, taking to Xiaohongshu, a social media platform that has been described as "China's answer to Instagram" a consumer complained about hostels rejecting bookings from those in their late 30s. This has sparked a debate on China's "35-year-old crisis", with some labelling this discrimination towards a particular age demographic. However, others are of the opinion that this is justified. Here's all you need to know.</p>

<h2><strong>A dearth of hostels</strong></h2>

<p>In a now-viral post, a user complained that many youth hostels in the Chinese capital Beijing are refusing accommodation to customers over 35 years of age. The user alleged that he faced quite a struggle looking for hostels without such restrictions.</p>

<p>Apparently, he was informed of the age restriction over the phone and hostel owners defended this constraint, citing safety concerns.</p>

<p><strong>Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/an-nyu-professor-thinks-donald-trump-will-quit-presidential-race-heres-why-617128">An NYU professor thinks Donald Trump will quit presidential race. Here's why</a></strong></p>

<p>He claims that the hostel owner told him that "it is unsafe for older people to get in and out of bed and is prone to accidents."</p>

<p>In frustration, the user asked netizens, "I am getting close (to 35 years old) but I can still do 50 pushups, run five kilometres, and jump over a two-meter wall. What's the danger?"</p>

<h2><strong>Safety, peace and more</strong></h2>

<p>Sixth Tone, which does extensive coverage of all things China, reports that a search across major online travel-based platforms reveals that many youth hostels in Beijing now impose an age restriction.</p>

<p>Reportedly, many of them have set the age requirement between 18 and 40 years. Additionally, some have raised this restriction and cater to people till the ages of 45 to 50, but many have drawn the line at 35 years.</p>

<p>And it's not just the capital Beijing. Similar restrictions are in place in other major Chinese cities, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Guangzhou.</p>

<p><strong>Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/uk-woman-jailed-after-illegally-obtaining-abortion-pills-freed-617097">Court sets free UK woman jailed for illegally obtaining abortion pills, terms it 'sad' case</a></strong></p>

<p>Responding to a booking request by Sixth Tone posing as a middle-aged guest, one Beijing hotel said that the reason for their 35-year age restriction is precautionary. They claimed that they were trying to avoid conflicts between their young guests and the "old" ones and that the schedules, and living habits of the two broad age groups are different.</p>

<p><img alt="Hotels" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="d6de566e-f67e-478e-94bf-2c562490a213" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/New%20wion%2835%29.png" /></p>

<p>Another hostel, which has set the age restriction lower at 30 years, said this was done as a safety measure.</p>

<p>"We only offer bunk beds and don’t host elderly guests in general since we are a youth hostel," said a member of the staff, revealing that in the past, a 50-year-old guest had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment after falling off a bunk bed.</p>

<h2><strong>Discrimination or not</strong></h2>

<p>On Weibo, the Chinese alternative to Twitter, the age limit has led to a discussion of sorts. While many mocked the practice, calling it discrimination, others say that the practice was normal since most hostels cater to the younger demographic.</p>

Age may be "just" a number for the world, but in China, for those over 35, it can become the basis for "discrimination" and rejection from jobs and even hostels. Recently, taking to Xiaohongshu, a social media platform that has been described as "China's answer to Instagram" a consumer complained about hostels rejecting bookings from those in their late 30s. This has sparked a debate on China's "35-year-old crisis", with some labelling this discrimination towards a particular age demographic. However, others are of the opinion that this is justified. Here's all you need to know. A dearth of hostels In a now-viral post, a user complained that many youth hostels in the Chinese capital Beijing are refusing accommodation to customers over 35 years of age. The user alleged that he faced quite a struggle looking for hostels without such restrictions. Apparently, he was informed of the age restriction over the phone and hostel owners defended this constraint, citing safety concerns. Here's why He claims that the hostel owner told him that "it is unsafe for older people to get in and out of bed and is prone to accidents." In frustration, the user asked netizens, "I am getting close (to 35 years old) but I can still do 50 pushups, run five kilometres, and jump over a two-meter wall. What's the danger?" Safety, peace and more Sixth Tone, which does extensive coverage of all things China, reports that a search across major online travel-based platforms reveals that many youth hostels in Beijing now impose an age restriction. Reportedly, many of them have set the age requirement between 18 and 40 years. Additionally, some have raised this restriction and cater to people till the ages of 45 to 50, but many have drawn the line at 35 years. And it's not just the capital Beijing. Similar restrictions are in place in other major Chinese cities, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Guangzhou. They claimed that they were trying to avoid conflicts between their young guests and the "old" ones and that the schedules, and living habits of the two broad age groups are different. Another hostel, which has set the age restriction lower at 30 years, said this was done as a safety measure. "We only offer bunk beds and don’t host elderly guests in general since we are a youth hostel," said a member of the staff, revealing that in the past, a 50-year-old guest had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment after falling off a bunk bed. Discrimination or not On Weibo, the Chinese alternative to Twitter, the age limit has led to a discussion of sorts. While many mocked the practice, calling it discrimination, others say that the practice was normal since most hostels cater to the younger demographic. One user commented, "Such opportunities should be left for youngsters to experience life." However, another user was quick to point out that, "After being excluded from applying for jobs at public and private companies, now people above 35 have been abandoned by hostels too." Talking to local news publication Baidu, the user behind the viral social media post which helped shine the limelight on this issue, says that staying in a youth hostel is not only cheaper but also helps you make friends with people with similar interests. <p>Kale, an endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle, recently underwent a CT scan at an Alabama hospital in the US as part of his ongoing medical treatment.</p>

<p>Pictures of the doctors visit were shared by the Cook Museum of Natural History, where Kale has been living since 2020. The images which were posted on Facebook are now going viral.</p>

<h2><strong>Why did a turtle need a CT scan?</strong></h2>

<p>As per Miami Herald report, Kale's journey has been challenging. In 2019, the endangered turtle was accidentally hooked by a recreational fisherman off the coast of Virginia. Virginia wildlife officials intervened to rescue the juvenile turtle, but the size of the hook required invasive surgeries to address the injury.</p>

<p>Due to complications during the healing process, Kale developed scar tissue and a fistula, a hollow space prone to infections. Consequently, he requires regular veterinarian visits and treatment.</p>

<p>After the failed negotiation between SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) and the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers), &nbsp;thousands of Hollywood actors<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/hollywood/news-sag-aftra-negotiating-committee-unanimously-votes-strike-as-talks-fall-615055"> will go on a strike</a> and will join the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike on the picket lines. Following the unsuccessful negotiation, Disney chief executive Bob Iger has reacted to the actor and writer's strike, and called it “very disturbing.'' Iger also added that it&nbsp;will have a “very, very damaging effect on the whole business.”</p>

<p>Speaking to CNBC’s David Faber, Iger commented on the worrisome situation of the ongoing strike and its effect on the entertainment business.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It’s very disturbing to me. We’ve talked about disruptive forces on this business and all the challenges we’re facing, the recovery from COVID which is ongoing, it’s not completely back. This is the worst time in the world to add to that disruption,” Iger said, as per&nbsp;Variety.</p>

<p>“I understand any labour organisation’s desire to work on behalf of its members to get the most compensation and be compensated fairly based on the value that they deliver. We managed, as an industry, to negotiate a very good deal with the directors guild that reflects the value that the directors contribute to this great business. We wanted to do the same thing with the writers, and we’d like to do the same thing with the actors. There’s a level of expectation that they have, that is just not realistic. And they are adding to the&nbsp;set of the challenges that this business is already facing that is, quite frankly, very disruptive.”</p>

<p>Further, Iger, whose contract as Disney's CEO has been extended, said that he respects their right to compensation for their people, but he added that they must “be realistic about the business environment, and what this business can deliver.”</p>

<p>Iger continued, “It will have a very, very damaging affect on the whole business, and unfortunately, there’s huge collateral damage in the industry to people who are supportive services, and I could go on and on. It will affect the economy of different regions, even, because of the sheer size of the business. It’s a shame, it is really a shame.”</p>

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has announced the nominations for its highly anticipated 14th edition. As the largest Indian film festival outside of Indian soil, IFFM continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has announced the nominations for its highly anticipated 14th edition. As the largest Indian film festival outside of Indian soil, IFFM continues to captivate audiences worldwide. This year, the festival proudly welcomes a new addition to its esteemed jury panel, the Oscar-winning Australian filmmaker Bruce Beresford, renowned for directing acclaimed films such as Driving Miss Daisy and The Contract. IFFM is the only Indian film festival outside of the Indian soil that is backed by the government of another country and with that, IFFM stands as a remarkable celebration of Indian cinema and cultural exchange. With its finger on the pulse of the industry, the festival has embraced the changing landscape of film consumption by introducing the OTT Awards in 2021. Now in its third year, the OTT Awards will honour outstanding achievements in three categories. The IFFM advisory committee, after meticulous consideration of hundreds of films and series from across Indian cinema, have finalised the nominations of films and series which have released between 1st June 20222 to 31st May 2023. Leading the pack in the film categories, including Best Film, Best Actor, and Best Actress, are notable productions such as Darlings, Monica O My Darling, Ponniyin Selvan, and Kantara. These films have captivated audiences with their stellar performances, engaging storytelling, and artistic excellence. The nominations reflect the diversity and richness of Indian cinema, acknowledging the blockbusters and the indie gems on the same platform. In the OTT category, series such as Trial By Fire, Jubilee, and Delhi Crime Season 2 have garnered the highest number of nominations. These exceptional series have made a significant impact with their compelling narratives, outstanding performances, and remarkable production values. For OTT nominations, only series on platforms which are available to be streamed in the Australian market have been considered. The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne has consistently pushed boundaries and showcased the best of Indian cinema to a global audience. With the support of its dedicated jury and industry professionals, the festival continues to champion innovation, creativity, cultural diversity and inclusivity. The winners of the prestigious IFFM 2023 Awards will be announced during the festival, at their annual gala night on 11th August 2023 which is set to be hosted at the iconic Hamer Hall in Melbourne, one of the world's most sophisticated concert halls. Andrew Tate claims US VP Kamala Harris 'largely incompetent' and prone to playing the 'race card'

<p>Millennials, the generation of people born between 1981 and 1996, have been blamed for many things, ruining Airbnb, tattoos, mayonnaise, McDonald's and so much more. Don't believe us? Just go on Google and search "millennials ruined", you'll see. Now, a recent survey attempted to find who's the biggest fibber of all the generations. Turns out, millennials take the crown for being the biggest liars in the workplace and on social media.</p>

<h2><strong>What the study found: Millennials vs Boomers vs Gen Z</strong></h2>

<p>Online casino PlayStar conducted a survey of 1,306 participants, split equally between males and females, to explore their propensity for lying in different settings.</p>

<p>As per a report in New York Post, the results revealed that millennials, or those born between 1981 and 1996, were the worst offenders, with 13 per cent admitting to being dishonest at least once a day.</p>

<p><strong>Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/science/what-the-hell-gen-z-more-likely-to-believe-in-damnation-after-death-finds-study-594238">What the 'hell'? Gen Z more likely to believe in damnation after death, finds study</a></strong></p>

<p>In contrast, only two&nbsp;per cent of baby boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964, confessed to telling a daily fib.</p>

<p>Even Gen Z did better. Generation Z, the young ones, born between 1997 and 2021 and Generation X, born between 1965 and 1980 displayed similar levels of deception, with only five&nbsp;per cent in each group owning up to daily dishonesty.</p>

<h2><strong>What do millennials lie about?</strong></h2>

<p>The survey did delve into the specific areas where lies are most prevalent. Nearly one-third of millennials admitted to lying on their resumes this year and the workplace was identified as the hub of deceit. Almost 40 per cent of millennials confessed to lying to their boss in order to avoid embarrassment.</p>

<p>Furthermore, 23 per cent of millennials and 21 per cent of Gen Z individuals admitted to lying on social media to impress others.</p>

<h2><strong>What pushes millennials to lie?</strong></h2>

<p>The focus on money, image, and fame among millennials might explain their higher propensity for lying, as indicated by a 2012 study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.</p>

<p><strong>Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/lifestyle/news-despite-prioritising-sex-millennials-are-less-sexually-free-than-gen-z-survey-finds-611916">Despite prioritising sex, millennials are less 'sexually free' than Gen Z, survey finds</a></strong></p>

<p>However, the survey found that the majority of respondents, 79 per cent, claimed to have never told a lie online.</p>

<p>Nine in ten Gen X respondents or 89 per cent, 86 per cent of baby boomers also reported high levels of honesty on social media.</p>

<h2><strong>Is there a gender angle to lying?</strong></h2>

<p>Interestingly, yes. As per the New York Post report, the survey uncovered a gender difference in lying behaviour. Men were found to be 10 per cent more likely to lie on social media compared to women.</p>

<p>In general too, more men — 26 per cent —confessed to telling a daily lie compared to the slightly lower number of women —&nbsp; 23 per cent. However, the survey challenged the common misconception that women are better at detecting lies than men.</p>

<p>Overall, the survey highlighted that the majority of people struggle to identify when someone is lying, with 97 per cent of participants performing poorly in lie detection.</p>

<p>However, the survey also revealed that lies are not always malicious, with 58 per cent of respondents admitting to telling untruths only to avoid embarrassment and 42 per cent doing so to protect their privacy. Additionally, a significant portion — 42 per cent — confessed to lying to shield someone from reprimand or punishment. So, all in all, it's not all that bad.</p>

Millennials, the generation of people born between 1981 and 1996, have been blamed for many things, ruining Airbnb, tattoos, mayonnaise, McDonald's and so much more. Don't believe us? Just go on Google and search "millennials ruined", you'll see. Now, a recent survey attempted to find who's the biggest fibber of all the generations. Turns out, millennials take the crown for being the biggest liars in the workplace and on social media. What the study found: Millennials vs Boomers vs Gen Z Online casino PlayStar conducted a survey of 1,306 participants, split equally between males and females, to explore their propensity for lying in different settings. As per a report in New York Post, the results revealed that millennials, or those born between 1981 and 1996, were the worst offenders, with 13 per cent admitting to being dishonest at least once a day. Also read | What the 'hell'? Gen Z more likely to believe in damnation after death, finds study In contrast, only two per cent of baby boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964, confessed to telling a daily fib. Even Gen Z did better. Generation Z, the young ones, born between 1997 and 2021 and Generation X, born between 1965 and 1980 displayed similar levels of deception, with only five per cent in each group owning up to daily dishonesty. What do millennials lie about? The survey did delve into the specific areas where lies are most prevalent. Nearly one-third of millennials admitted to lying on their resumes this year and the workplace was identified as the hub of deceit. Almost 40 per cent of millennials confessed to lying to their boss in order to avoid embarrassment. Furthermore, 23 per cent of millennials and 21 per cent of Gen Z individuals admitted to lying on social media to impress others. What pushes millennials to lie? The focus on money, image, and fame among millennials might explain their higher propensity for lying, as indicated by a 2012 study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Also read | Despite prioritising sex, millennials are less 'sexually free' than Gen Z, survey finds However, the survey found that the majority of respondents, 79 per cent, claimed to have never told a lie online. Nine in ten Gen X respondents or 89 per cent, 86 per cent of baby boomers also reported high levels of honesty on social media. Is there a gender angle to lying? Interestingly, yes. As per the New York Post report, the survey uncovered a gender difference in lying behaviour. Men were found to be 10 per cent more likely to lie on social media compared to women. In general too, more men — 26 per cent —confessed to telling a daily lie compared to the slightly lower number of women — 23 per cent. <p>Taking to her Instagram handle, Spears described the whole incident and said that despite what happened, she's still a huge fan of the NBA player.</p>

<p>In the caption, Britney wrote, ''I’ve been working in the industry for years and have been with some of the most famous people in the world … NSYNC at one point were like The Beatles … girls would throw themselves at them everywhere we went … not one time in my life has a security guard ever hit another person !!! I’m not sharing this to be a victim … I SIMPLY GET IT HONESTLY … my reaction was priceless … BAD ??? YES … I’ve had documentaries done about me and none of which I approved … I have felt helpless in most situations and my experience in Vegas and my reaction was a cry out on all levels … I will say it !!!''</p>

<p>Britney wrote that she has never "been treated as an equal person in this country'', the caption reads,&nbsp;''No, I don’t feel like I have been treated as an equal person in this country … of course when I watched the video myself … the people who actually swarmed around me when they heard me get hit made me feel like I mattered !!! I wasn’t aware of that at the time … all people could hear was me saying fuck you all … which was WAY BETTER THAN HITTING HIM BACK 🙄🙄 🙄 !!!''</p>

<p>Britney concluded her message by saying that she is a huge fan of the&nbsp;NBA player.&nbsp;''Either way I’m still a huge fan of the NBA player … it’s not his fault his security hit me … shit happens !!! I hope you're all having a wonderful Friday !!!''</p>

<p>Earlier this week, the pop singer was hit by a security guard for NBA star Victor Wembanyama in Las Vegas when she was trying to approach him. The incident video went viral and showed Britney approaching Wembanyama when his security person hit her without even looking at her.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After she was allegedly assaulted by a member of Victor Wembanyama’s security team, Spears filed a police report in Las Vegas, Nevada. Earlier,&nbsp;the "Toxic" singer wrote on social media, "Traumatic experiences are not new to me, and I have had my fair share of them. I was not prepared for what happened to me last night."</p>

Britney Spears' fan moment turned awry after NBA player Victor Wembanyama's security allegedly knocked Spears on her face in public. A few days after the incident, Spears is finally speaking out. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Maria River Red (@britneyspears) × Taking to her Instagram handle, Spears described the whole incident and said that despite what happened, she's still a huge fan of the NBA player. In the caption, Britney wrote, ''I’ve been working in the industry for years and have been with some of the most famous people in the world … NSYNC at one point were like The Beatles … girls would throw themselves at them everywhere we went … not one time in my life has a security guard ever hit another person !!! I’m not sharing this to be a victim … I SIMPLY GET IT HONESTLY … my reaction was priceless … BAD ??? YES … I’ve had documentaries done about me and none of which I approved … I have felt helpless in most situations and my experience in Vegas and my reaction was a cry out on all levels … I will say it !!!'' Britney wrote that she has never "been treated as an equal person in this country'', the caption reads, ''No, I don’t feel like I have been treated as an equal person in this country … of course when I watched the video myself … the people who actually swarmed around me when they heard me get hit made me feel like I mattered !!! I wasn’t aware of that at the time … all people could hear was me saying fuck you all … which was WAY BETTER THAN HITTING HIM BACK 🙄🙄 🙄 !!!'' Britney concluded her message by saying that she is a huge fan of the NBA player. ''Either way I’m still a huge fan of the NBA player … it’s not his fault his security hit me … shit happens !!! I hope you're all having a wonderful Friday !!!'' Earlier this week, the pop singer was hit by a security guard for NBA star Victor Wembanyama in Las Vegas when she was trying to approach him. The incident video went viral and showed Britney approaching Wembanyama when his security person hit her without even looking at her. After she was allegedly assaulted by a member of Victor Wembanyama’s security team, Spears filed a police report in Las Vegas, Nevada. Earlier, the "Toxic" singer wrote on social media, "Traumatic experiences are not new to me, and I have had my fair share of them. I was not prepared for what happened to me last night." However, no charges will be filed following a brief investigation that determined she inadvertently "hit herself in the face." Dilip Kumar Death anniversary: Iconic dialogues from his memorable movies

<p>An armed rapper, who was chased by London police last year, has now been sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison. Bodycam and CCTV footage revealed how the 23-year-old man, named Ellis Heather, tried to escape police officials by hiding in a garden of a residential building.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Now, he has been sentenced for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, alongside a concurrent sentence of five years for possessing a prohibited firearm.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Dramatic chase by police officials</strong></h2>

<p>It was on October 22 of last year when plainclothes police officials observed Heather’s suspicious behaviour. He was riding in a black Mercedes in Ladbroke Grove while wearing a black open-faced balaclava. When police officials decided to halt the vehicle, Heather quickly accelerated, evading the police and initiating a chase that ultimately came to a halt on St Marks Road.&nbsp;</p>

An armed rapper, who was chased by London police last year, has now been sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison. Bodycam and CCTV footage revealed how the 23-year-old man, named Ellis Heather, tried to escape police officials by hiding in a garden of a residential building. Now, he has been sentenced for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, alongside a concurrent sentence of five years for possessing a prohibited firearm. Dramatic chase by police officials It was on October 22 of last year when plainclothes police officials observed Heather’s suspicious behaviour. He was riding in a black Mercedes in Ladbroke Grove while wearing a black open-faced balaclava. When police officials decided to halt the vehicle, Heather quickly accelerated, evading the police and initiating a chase that ultimately came to a halt on St Marks Road. × Seizing the opportunity, Heather swiftly exited the car and took off on foot. The pursuing officers later apprehended Heather at the front garden of a nearby residence. Heather was carrying a firearm As Heather ran, he threw away a gun that he was carrying mid-way, which was later recovered by police. Forensic investigators were able to confirm that Heather had been in possession of the weapon. Watch: Apple faces legal setback as London court upholds infringement claims × Although the pistol had initially been designed as a blank-and-gas gun, it had been illegally converted into a functional firearm. Loaded with six bullets, it posed a legitimate threat. ‘Great example of proactive patrolling’ Detective Constable Tom Harris, from the Met's specialist crime, lauded the officers involved for proactive patrolling based on their feeling that “something was not right”. He said, “As a result of that professional curiosity a lethal firearm has been removed from the streets, no doubt meaning a life has been saved somewhere down the line.” Also read: Legal battle looms over London`s expanding vehicle pollution fee "The Met is utterly committed to bearing down on firearms. Anyone else concerned in the use of them can be assured that they too, like Heather, could find themselves going to prison," he added. Chief Superintendent Louise Puddefoot, local policing commander for Kensington and Chelsea, said, "As the Commissioner said recently, everyday officers step forward into uncertainty, with the sole focus of keeping Londoners safe.” WATCH WION LIVE HERE ×

<p>WION's film critic, Shomini Sen, gave the film a positive review. She wrote, "Does Pathaan work despite the flaws?" Yes, because of Shah Rukh Khan and the image he has so carefully cultivated over all these years. His character is that of an orphan who has been raised in an orphanage and has never had a religion to follow. He was named Pathaan by a family in Afghanistan that saved him during a covert operation. "Pathaan," the film, does not diss any religion, but only the bad guys, and makes SRK the superhero who places his country above all religious fanaticism. "This is pretty much how Khan has portrayed himself over the years."</p>

<p>Tattoos are amazing! They are exquisite forms of self-expression and let us create art on our skin, making us unique masterpieces. They can tell stories and hold special meanings. But sometimes, people take it too far and turn art into an obsession. This is what happened with Melissa Sloan, a 46-year-old Welsh mother, who has gained notoriety for her extensive collection of tattoos.</p>

<p>The mother of two boasts of 800 tattoos, many of them on her face. Now, the obsession has come back to haunt her. Her extensive collection of tattoos has landed her in hot soup, not only is she unable to find work, her unconventional appearance has also led to her being barred from various places including...tattoo shops.</p>

<h2><strong>If she's barred from tattoo shops, how does she get so many tattoos?</strong></h2>

<p>Talking to the Daily Star, the 46-year-old woman revealed that she gets at least three designs etched on to her face every week.</p>

<p>She fuels her "addiction" by having most of her tattoos done by her partner Luke in the comfort of their home, often using unconventional methods.</p>

<h2><strong>Where else is she barred from?</strong></h2>

<p>Melissa has encountered numerous problems and has been barred from various aspects of life. One area greatly affected by Melissa's tattoos is her job prospects.</p>

<p>Despite having a previous job cleaning toilets, her growing collection of crucifixes and Playboy bunnies has made it challenging for her to find employment. At this point, no one would even hire her to scrub toilets, which by no means is a glamorous job.</p>

<p>As per Daily Star, she has been without a job for seven months and relies on benefits to support herself. Not only this, her tattoos have led to many doors being closed in her face — quite literally.</p>

<p>Tattoo shops have slammed their doors on Melissa away, refusing to provide her with their services. She says she has been banned from parlours due to her face being deemed "beyond help." Tattooists have rejected her, claiming that she has gone too far with her tattooed appearance.</p>

<p>Her tattoos have even led to her exclusion from pubs, with Melissa receiving a lifetime ban from entering any drinking establishments.</p>

<p>"I'm not allowed in the pub, it's all pubs," she explained while talking to the publication. She claims to have been banned from her children's school.</p>

<h2><strong>Heckling, derogatory remarks and more can't deter Melissa Sloan</strong></h2>

<p>The challenges Melissa faces extend beyond establishments. She often encounters heckling and derogatory remarks from strangers on the street, which has even occurred in front of her children. Despite facing societal rejection, Melissa remains committed to her love for tattoos and has reportedly even declined the offer of free NHS laser treatment to remove her face ink. Instead, she sees the idea of getting her eyeballs tattooed as a potential future "gamble" on her sight.</p>

This is what happened with Melissa Sloan, a 46-year-old Welsh mother, who has gained notoriety for her extensive collection of tattoos. The mother of two boasts of 800 tattoos, many of them on her face. Now, the obsession has come back to haunt her. Her extensive collection of tattoos has landed her in hot soup, not only is she unable to find work, her unconventional appearance has also led to her being barred from various places including...tattoo shops. If she's barred from tattoo shops, how does she get so many tattoos? Talking to the Daily Star, the 46-year-old woman revealed that she gets at least three designs etched on to her face every week. She fuels her "addiction" by having most of her tattoos done by her partner Luke in the comfort of their home, often using unconventional methods. Also read | Explained: Bird divorces are on the rise. Here's the fascinating reason behind avian breakups Where else is she barred from? Melissa has encountered numerous problems and has been barred from various aspects of life. One area greatly affected by Melissa's tattoos is her job prospects. Despite having a previous job cleaning toilets, her growing collection of crucifixes and Playboy bunnies has made it challenging for her to find employment. At this point, no one would even hire her to scrub toilets, which by no means is a glamorous job. As per Daily Star, she has been without a job for seven months and relies on benefits to support herself. Not only this, her tattoos have led to many doors being closed in her face — quite literally. Tattoo shops have slammed their doors on Melissa away, refusing to provide her with their services. She says she has been banned from parlours due to her face being deemed "beyond help." Tattooists have rejected her, claiming that she has gone too far with her tattooed appearance. Also read | Indian-origin man, who hatched 'plot to kill' Queen Elizabeth, was encouraged by AI girlfriend Her tattoos have even led to her exclusion from pubs, with Melissa receiving a lifetime ban from entering any drinking establishments. "I'm not allowed in the pub, it's all pubs," she explained while talking to the publication. She claims to have been banned from her children's school. Heckling, derogatory remarks and more can't deter Melissa Sloan The challenges Melissa faces extend beyond establishments. She often encounters heckling and derogatory remarks from strangers on the street, which has even occurred in front of her children. Despite facing societal rejection, Melissa remains committed to her love for tattoos and has reportedly even declined the offer of free NHS laser treatment to remove her face ink. Instead, she sees the idea of getting her eyeballs tattooed as a potential future "gamble" on her sight.
