Three children were found stabbed while two others were injured in their house in Italy, Texas—a tragedy that has shocked the residents.

The incident was reported on Friday after the sheriff's deputies received a call around 4 pm (local time) on South Harris Street, Ellis County Sheriff Deputy Jerry Cozby said, reports ABC News.

After arriving, the officers found all the victims, i.e., children, lying on the floor of the house. While three of them were found dead, two others have been taken to a nearby hospital. The medical condition of the injured is unknown.

The police said they have nabbed a suspect, whose identity has not been revealed. The names of the victims have also not been shared, with the police even refusing to reveal how the suspect was related to them.

However, local media reports claimed that the assailant was the mother of those five children.

“This is a fluid investigation, and we will update you as things evolve,” Deputy Cozby said at the news conference. “Right now, the most important thing are prayers for the family of those involved.”

The sheriff also ruled any danger to the public “at this time.”

Earlier, a statement released by the sheriff’s office said that it believed “this to be an isolated incident that presents no further threat to the Italy Community.”

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in a statement expressed shock at the tragedy, saying that they are assisting the officials with the investigation.

"We are shocked by this incomprehensible tragedy, and already working with law enforcement to investigate how this happened, and why," they said.

Around 2,000 residents live in Italy—located roughly 40 miles (approx. 64 kilometres) south of Dallas.

When an 80-year-old man in Texas, United States, had to return to work post retirement because of a hike in the house rent, some students of a school - where he worked as a janitor - came forward to help him and leveraged the power of social media. They managed to raise about $270,000 to help James, the elderly janitor, get some much-deserved rest. According to local media, he was forced to come back to resume the daily work routine when the rent was increased to $400 a month.

Initially, the students had aimed to raise about $10,000 when the campaign was started on online fundraising website GoFundMe on February 15. "This is our 80-year-old janitor who has rent raised and had to come back to work. Let's help Mr James out," Greyson Thurman, one of the students, wrote on TikTok along with a photo that captured the elderly man in the middle of his daily routine. “Nobody at that age should be working; they should be living the rest of their life," Thurman told KDFW Fox 4, a local news outlet. In a span of 10 days, however, around 8,600 users came forward. The top donor contributed $2,500.

The charges of domestic violence against former Text Longhorns men's basketball coach Chris Beard have been dropped by a Texas prosecutor, partly because of the victim's wishes not to prosecute. Jose Garza, District Attorney in Travis county, known for handling domestic abuse cases with utmost sincerity, dropped the charges on Wednesday, respecting the wishes of Randi Trew, Beard's fiance. The DA's office also observed that the charges of suffocation-strangulation-family violence could not be proved without a reasonable doubt. Beard was arrested on December 12 after Trew called 911 and informed officers about the abuse. She, however, later said that she never wished for Beard to be prosecuted.

Perry Minton, Beard's attorney, said, "everyone knows that Coach Beard has maintained his absolute innocence since the moment he was arrested.''. "Additionally, this district attorney has a well-earned reputation for being very tough regarding domestic violence cases. The fact that Mr. Garza's review resulted in this determination so quickly says a lot. We are very pleased.''

The police affidavit filed in support of Beard's arrest mentioned various signs of altercation including bite marks on Trew's arms and abrasions on her face and leg. A later statement, however, did not mention why she called 911 or the injuries described in the police report. According to the affidavit, Trew initially told police "he choked me, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around and going nuts.''

After his arrest, Beard was suspended without pay by the Longhorns. He was subsequently fired from the job on January 5 after Texas officials told Beard's attorney that he is únfit'to lead the program. On Wednesday though, A University of Texas spokesperson declined to comment on the case.

Beard has five years left on a guaranteed seven-year contract. Although a provision in the contract states that he could be fired if was charged with a felony or behaviour which is unbecoming of his position or which reflected poorly on the university.

"Additionally, this district attorney has a well-earned reputation for being very tough regarding domestic violence cases. A spate of attacks on Hindu temples in the US state of Texas and Australia’s Melbourne has triggered concerns among the Indian community living abroad, even as authorities probe for any possible hate crime. The first incident took place at Shri Omkarnath Temple in the Brazos Valley, Texas, on January 11, KBTX-TV reported on Friday.

According to reports, the temple was raided by burglars who stole some of the valuables from the premises, leaving the Indian community in a state of shock.

According to a video captured by security cameras inside the temple, a person was seen going past the shrine and heading straight to the donation box. The suspect then used the temple's cart to wheel it out the door.

“There was a sense of invasion, that sense of loss of privacy when something like this happened to us,” Srinivasa Sunkari, a Board member for the Brazos Valley Shri Omkarnath Temple said, reports PTI news agency.

“This is the only Hindu temple in the Brazos Valley, a place for local Hindus to worship, and find peace and community.”

‘“There was a break-in. They broke in through the side window and what was immediately apparent was missing is our donation box and a safe in which we keep our valuables,” Sunkari said.

He said that the priest and his family who live in an apartment right behind the temple are safe.

The second incident was reported from Australia’s Carrum Downs city in Melbourne where the Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple was vandalised with anti-Hindu graffiti.

The devotees who came to the temple for prayer first noticed the ghastly act during the three-day 'Thai Pongal' festival being celebrated by Australia's Tamil Hindu community, The Australia Today news reported.

It came just a week after the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in the country's Mill Park was defaced with anti-India and anti-Hindu graffiti.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs, during its press briefing on Thursday, said that the Indian authorities have raised this issue with their counterparts in Australia.

"Recently a couple of temples have been vandalised in Australia. We condemned these incidents. Both are near Melbourne. We strongly condemn these actions," foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

"These actions have also been publicly condemned by Australian leaders, community leaders and religious associations there," he added.

The Australian High Commissioner to India condemned the incident on Friday and asserted that the Melbourne authorities are probing the incident.

"Like India, Australia is a proud, multicultural country. We have been shocked at the vandalism of two Hindu temples in Melbourne, and Australian authorities are investigating" Barry O'Farrell tweeted, tagging India's foreign minister S Jaishankar and the ministry.

"Our strong support for freedom of expression does not include hate speech or violence," he said.

The frigid winters of Texas sent hundreds of bats into "hypothermic shock", who were clinging to their roost under a bridge in Houston, Texas.

The bats almost froze in the frigid air and started falling on the ground after losing their grip from the bridge, which was nine metres above the pavement, reported the Houston Humane Society on its Facebook page.

What followed was a rescue mission worthy of Batman amid the intensifying cold wave. A bat rescue was launched by the group and 929 bats were gathered from the pavement under the Waugh Bridge, and they were provided with nutrition and heat.

The rescue mission was joined in by the volunteers and by the weekend, the group took back more than 1,500 bats, who were kept warm in the attic or shelter of society wildlife director Mary Warwick.

Most of the bats rescued required water and warmth, however, those badly affected by the icy winters were kept in incubators and fed intravenously.

"Amazingly, most of (the) bats have survived," the society stated.

On Wednesday, as the temperature reached 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius), "close to 700" were released by the society back to the bridge, freeing them to fly in the open skies and feed on insects.

After turning into a category 4 storm on Saturday, Hurricane Roslyn on Sunday made landfall along Mexico's Pacific coast and left a trail of destruction. Reportedly, two people died on Sunday from the havoc caused by Roslyn as wind speed peaked at around 210 kmph. A 74-year-old man died after a beam fell on his head while a 39-year-old woman succumbed to injuries after a fence collapsed on her in the Rosamorada district. According to a Reuters report, Roslyn caused major damage to roofs and outdoor coverings. The state agencies informed that heavy rainfall is expected to continue and if people and authorities did not practice caution, it could lead to flash flooding and landslides in some regions. However, after the storm weakened with speeds ranging from 90 kmph to 31 kmph, it moved inland, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC). Read more: Hurricane Roslyn strengthens to Category 4, Mexico braces for landfall over the weekend NHC added that before reaching Texas, the hurricane may develop into a tropical depression. While the hurricane did not make a direct impact near Puerto Vallarta, it did manage to bring torrential rain and big waves, destroying the beachfront of several resorts. However, the busy Puerto Vallarta airport resumed operations on the same day. “The biggest effect was from the waves, on some of the beachside infrastructure. We did not have any significant damage," said Adrián Bobadilla, director, state civil defence agency. The beaches remained closed as NHC warned that the swells were "likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions." Prior to the landfall on Saturday, warnings were issued for Mexican states including Las Islas Marias, Jalisco and Nayarit, particularly the coastal regions. The states were advised that preparations “should be rushed to completion” to protect life and property. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

In what comes as a bizarre incident, a California resident in the USA has sued a hot sauce company with Texas in its name after learning the sauce wasn't made in the state of Texas.

In what comes as a bizarre incident, a California resident in the USA has sued a hot sauce company with Texas in its name after learning the sauce wasn't made in the state of Texas. Reportedly, a man named Philip White bought a bottle of Texas Pete hot sauce for about $3 at a local supermarket in California in September 2021, thinking the product was made in the Lone Star state. However, upon learning that the sauce was made in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, an angry White filed a class action lawsuit last month. Under the lawsuit filed at the Los Angeles federal court, White is demanding that the company pay for the damages and simultaneously, change its name and branding. According to local reports, Texas Pete has time till November 10 to respond to the complaint. Read more: US city to sue Kia and Hyundai for making cars easier to steal in the viral TikTok challenge Claiming the company was using false advertising to sell its product, White said he would have not bought the product if he knew where it was produced. "By way of its false marketing and labeling, [Texas Pete] knowingly and intentionally capitalizes on consumers’ desire to partake in the culture and authentic cuisine of one of the most prideful states in America," alleged White in the complaint. White also argued that despite the back label stating the product is manufactured in North Caolina, a consumer would most likely not notice it. "If a consumer conducted an extremely close review of the Products’ back labels, nothing would overcome the reasonable impression given by the front label that the Products are indeed made in Texas," alleged White. While White alleges that the company misled him by the name, Texas Pete Sauce company on its website, in a rather transparent manner has laid down the history of why the sauce made in North Carolina was named Texas Pete. "Legend has it that, when Sam Garner and his three sons, Thad, Ralph and Harold, were trying to come up with a brand name for this spicy new sauce they had created, a marketing advisor suggested the name “Mexican Joe” to connote the piquant flavor reminiscent of the favorite foods of our neighbors to the south," reads the about section of the website. Read more: Two unidentified men shot outside Republican leader's home with teenage daughters inside It adds that Garner refused to name the sauce 'Mexican Joe' as he wanted an American name and thus settled on Texas which "also had a reputation for spicy cuisine". "Then he glanced at son Harold, whose nickname was “Pete” and the Texas Pete cowboy was born," added the company. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

A police officer from San Antonio, Texas, shot at a 17-year-old boy who was in his car eating a burger in the parking lot of McDonald's. The officer was later fired.

The victim, Erik Cantu, is hospitalised with multiple gunshot wounds and "fighting for his life", his attorney Brian Powers said on Saturday, NBC News reported.

The incident took place on October 2, following which the officer, James, was put on probationary notice. However, a video from the officer’s body cam went viral on Friday, triggering outrage. He was then sacked on Saturday.

According to reports, the San Antonio Officer was responding to an unrelated distress call at the fast-food restaurant when he saw Cantu, who was unarmed, inside the car, police training commander Alyssa Campos said in a statement on Wednesday.

"As the officer attempted to gather information from witnesses, he noticed a vehicle that had evaded him the day before as the officer attempted a stop because the registered license plate did not match the actual vehicle," Campos added.

He said that Cantu’s car was not the subject of the disturbance call.

According to Campos, the officer assumed that the car was stolen and called “for cover”, but he nonetheless approached the vehicle before others officers could arrive.

Brennand then started open fire “abruptly” and ordered Cantu to get out.

"Get out of the car," the officer says to Cantu, the video shows.

The body-camera footage, which was released by the department, shows Cantu in the driver's seat eating a hamburger with a 17-year-old girl in the passenger's seat.

After getting injured, Cantu immediately drove away and stopped nearby where he and the girl, who was not injured, were found by police.

A 12-year-old girl from Texas reportedly shot her father and then herself in a murder pact that she made with another girl, who was also supposed to kill her family.

The incident took place last Tuesday at 11.30 pm (local time) at a home in Weatherford, Parker County Sheriff's Office said in a press release last Thursday.

The girl’s body was found on the street with a gunshot wound to the head and the weapon in her hand, while the father, 38, was inside the house with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

According to authorities, the girl shot her father, went outside and then shot herself, the sheriff's office said.

The father-daughter duo was later taken to local hospitals by air ambulance. Their conditions were not known till Monday morning, reported CNN.

The investigators claimed that the shootings were part of a murder plot the girl made with another kid weeks ago in Lufkin (about 230 miles (370 km) southeast of Weatherford).

They had planned to kill their families and then run away together to Georgia, the police alleged.

However, the girl in Lufkin, whose age was not revealed, did not go through with the plan. It is being investigated as to how the two girls knew each other.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Lufkin girl was charged with criminal conspiracy. Though it is known whether the injured 12-year-old faces any criminal action.

Lufkin Police are also probing the incident, the release stated.

The names of the juvenile suspects and their families have not been revealed by the Parker County Sheriff's Office in order to protect their identities.

As many US states try to bring changes to sex education programmes in the aftermath of overturning of Roe v. Wade ruling, Texas is making a marked shift towards its “abstinence-plus” curriculum.

This is the first time the state has revised its standards for sexual health education in more than 20 years.

The abortion ban has prompted changes in sex education curriculum in Texas whereby middle schoolers are now being taught about contraceptives and provided additional information about preventing sexually transmitted diseases, such as the human papillomavirus (HPV) that has been linked to several cancers.

This is the first time that schools in Texas are going beyond the state’s minimum health standards that is used to focus only on abstinence to stop pregnancies.

Moreover, these classes are being made compulsory, whereby the parents are being forced to sign up thier kids to these health classes.

A 2017 report revealed that 58 per cent of Texas school districts offered “abstinence-only” sexual health education, while only 17 per cent offered curriculums that expanded beyond that. Whereas, a quarter of schools offered no sex education at all.

This comes as Texas continues to have one of the highest rates of teenage pregnancies at 22.4 births per 1,000 girls and women between 15 and 19 age, reports NBC news.

The lowest is in Massachusetts with is 6.1 births per 1,000 girls and women.

Moreover, Texas, along with Alabama, has the nation’s highest rate of repeat teen pregnancies.

Currently, sex ed in Texas must still present abstinence as “the preferred choice.” When schools teach about other forms of contraception, they are required to provide “human use reality rates” — or, as it is described in medical literature, “typical use” — that detail the effectiveness of those methods outside laboratory settings.

At least eight migrants drowned while attempting to cross Rio Grande river in particularly swift currents following heavy rains while trying to reach the United States, officials said. Over 90 others were rescued.

The migrants were among scores of people crossing the river near Eagle Pass, a town in southern Texas that has become a major entry point for migrants in the last year, reports The New York Times.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Mexican officials said they found a large group of people unconscious after attempting to cross the swollen river following days of heavy rains.

US officials recovered six bodies, while Mexican teams found two others, CBP said in a statement.

US officials rescued 37 others from the river and detained 16 more, while Mexican officials took 39 migrants into custody. Officials on both sides of the border continue searching for any possible victims, the CBP said.

A four-year-old in Texas was said to have carried a loaded weapon to school. As Americans return from their summer vacation, anxieties about school shootings have returned.

Two days before the fright on Wednesday in Corpus Christi, a similar event in Arizona with a child of that same age.

In the Texas incident, a school employee who was a police officer while not on duty "called in for assistance advising that a four-year-old student was in possession of a loaded handgun on campus," according to police. The weapon was taken away by the cop.

The father, 30, was arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a kid and having a firearm available to children after it was determined that the child's parents were the owners of the weapon.

Tragically, mass shootings at schools have become routine for Americans. In a shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on May 19, two teachers, two students, and tiny children perished.

A fully loaded magazine and an unloaded gun were discovered in a seven-year-backpack old's on Monday at a school in the town of Cochise in Arizona, according to the sheriff's office.

When the child's father learned about the incident, he returned home from work to check on his guns and discovered a second one was also missing.

The second weapon was found in the school's administrative offices, where the student had reportedly hidden it while they were awaiting the police.

However, it appears that the second grader was able to access the handguns and take them to school, according to the sheriff's office statement. "The parents were interviewed and advised that the weapons had been placed in what they believed to be a secure location away from the children after a recent camping trip," it said.

A severe drought in Texas that dried up a river has uncovered dinosaur tracks from around 113 million years at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, southwest of Dallas, officials have said.

Officials said that the Paluxy River that runs through the park dried up in several areas exposing the tracks. It is usually underwater and commonly filled with sediment, rendering them invisible when the river is full of water.

“Due to the excessive drought conditions this past summer, the river dried up completely in most locations, allowing for more tracks to be uncovered here in the park," Stephanie Salinas Garcia of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department told AFP, adding that dry weather has made the tracks visible.

"Under normal river conditions, these newer tracks are underwater and are commonly filled in with sediment, making them buried and not as visible," she added.

According to reports, the tracks were made by Acrocanthosaurus, which weighed nearly seven tons (6,350 kilograms) as an adult and stood 15 feet (4.5 meters) tall. And another dinosaur, Sauroposeidon, which measured 60 feet tall and weighed 44 tons in adulthood.

The park was once on the edge of an ancient ocean, and dinosaurs left footprints in the mud, according to its website.

However, the exciting discovery is not expected to last long as the rain is in the forecast. Therefore, the recently discovered tracks will be covered underwater once more.

"While they will soon be buried again by the rain and the river, Dinosaur Valley State Park will continue to protect these 113-million-year-old tracks not only for present but future generations," she said.

According to the US Drought Monitor, over 60 per cent of Texas was experiencing drought last week.
