In what comes as a bizarre decision, a Texas school district has pulled Anne Frank's diary (Illustrated version), Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye and the Bible and several other books from the school bookshelves.

Reportedly, of the total 41 books to have been removed, several pertain to LBGT as well as black characters. The decision to remove the books was passed by Jennifer Price, Keller Independent School District curriculum director who sent a mail to principals and directed them to do the needful.

“By the end of today, I need all books pulled from the library and classrooms. More information will be sent regarding action for these books. Once this has been completed, please email me a confirmation. We need to ensure this action is taken by the end of today.” read the email sent by Price.

The books pulled out of the shelves will now undergo another review process, under a new policy that was approved by Keller school trustees. It is pertinent to note that there has been an addition of three fresh conservative faces in the trustee group and the clampdown on the books has followed the appointment.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has requested the deployment of military troops to assist with migrants arriving on buses sent by the Texas and Arizona state governments.

Washington mayor requests troops to assist with migrant arrivals from Texas and Arizona

The capital city of Washington DC is swarming with undocumented migrants who have arrived from the southern border states of Texas and Arizona. The influx of over 4,800 migrants has prompted DC's Mayor Muriel Bowser to call the situation a 'humanitarian crisis' that had brought the district to a 'tipping point'.

"The pace of arriving buses and the volume of arrivals have reached tipping points. Our collective response and service efforts have now become overwhelmed." wrote Bowser in a letter to President Joe Biden.

While city council members and migrant NGOs have asked the Democrat Mayor to devote city funds to the reception effort, she has refused saying that the federal government must step up.

With the situation turning worrisome with the arrival of buses, the district is running out of resources to manage the migrants.

Moreover, the security problems arising due to the migration crisis have forced Bowser to request for the National Guards. Reportedly Washington DC does not have its own guards and will have to rely on other states to offer their guardsmen.

Texas and Arizona have been sending migrant buses

Reportedly, Greg Abbott and Doug Ducey, governors of Texas and Arizona respectively, sent the migrants in buses over the course of the last few weeks to DC to show the Democrat hierarchy that illegal migration was a big problem in the southern states.

The influx of aliens into the soil of the United States, especially from the neighbouring country of Mexico is something which the Joe Biden administration has been unwilling and unable to manage.

The Republicans have grown restive over the reluctance of the Democrat regime in the White Huse and thus, they have taken matters into their own hands to make their voices heard.

"Texas should not have to bear the burden of the Biden administration’s failure to secure our border." Republican governor Abbott had remarked.

Washington DC overburdened with migrants; mayor says it has reached a 'tipping point'

In what comes as a bizarre yet intriguing case, a couple in the United States has been arrested for identity theft and conspiring against the government. Reportedly, Walter Glenn Primrose, a defence contractor and his wife Gwynn Darle Morrison lived under false identities for decades, stolen from dead babies.

The prosecutors investigating the case remarked that the couple was born in 1955 in Texas and attended high school together. Moreover, they went to the same university and later got married in 1980.

However, for reasons still unknown, the couple, in 1987, assumed the identities of Bobby Fort and Julie Montague, two babies who had died years ago and were buried in the cemeteries nearby.

Prosecutors revealed in their indictment that Glenn Primrose has been issued a total of five US passports under the identity of Bobby Fort while his wife, Gwynn Morrison had three US passports in her name under the alias of Julie Montague, the dead baby.

What makes the arrest rather interesting is that a photograph has been recovered from the couple's home where they can be seen dressed in KGB uniforms, the former spy agency of the Soviet Union.

Meanwhile, some sources have informed the prosecutors that Morisson had lived in Romania when it was a Soviet bloc country for a brief time.

Moreover, Walter has previously worked as an avionics electrical technician in the Coast Guard. Thus, the prosecutors are of the view that the couple cannot be granted bail as they might flee the country using their 'espionage' abilities.

According to the FBI, the couple lived in a Honolulu suburb of Hawaii. They lived in a two-bedroom bungalow while renting a neighbouring house to a military personnel.

The neighbours remarked that the couple mostly kept to themselves and were friendly. However, they both were 'kind of a little nerdy'. Meanwhile, Megan Kau, the attorney for the couple continues to maintain that her clients are not spies.

Texas migrant deaths: Vehicle's driver claims he was not aware air condition was not working

The man suspected to be driver of the truck packed with dozens of migrants who died in sweltering heat during smuggling attempt in Texas was charged in US federal court on Wednesday with human trafficking charges. An accused conspirator faces the same charge. Each of them faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. There is even a possibility of death penalty. The migrant trafficking incident has been the deadliest such incident on record in the US. The death toll in the incident rose to 53 on Wednesday. The truck carried migrants from Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador. The truck was found abandoned on Monday in desolate, industrial area near a highway on outskirts of San Antonio, Texas.

The temperatures in the area on that day had soared to 103 Fahrenheit (39.4 Celsius). Officials who arrived at the scene did not find any water supply or even signs of working air-conditioning inside the vehicle.

Officials described finding the rear door to the trailer ajar with "stacks of bodies" inside, many of them hot to the touch. Other victims were discovered on the ground nearby, some deceased, some incapacitated. It was not made clear from official accounts how the door opened.

According to radio dispatch audio from authorities who were first on the scene, no one inside the trailer was conscious and only about a dozen appeared at first to be breathing.

The truck's alleged driver, Homero Zamorano Jr, 45, a Texas native who was arrested near the scene, was charged in a criminal complaint with one count of "alien smuggling resulting in death," according to the Justice Department.

San Antonio police officers found Zamorano hiding in the brush, according to federal prosecutors. Francisco Garduno, head of Mexico's National Migration Institute, told a news conference earlier on Wednesday the driver had "tried to pass himself off as one of the survivors" when he was detained.

A second suspect, Christian Martinez, 28, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with a single count of "conspiracy to transport illegal aliens," the Justice Department said in its statement. His nationality was not immediately revealed.

Mexico President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said at least 22 Mexicans were among the migrants found dead in a trailer truck in the US state of Texas on Tuesday, as he put the total number of fatalities at 50, as reported by AFP.

"It's a tremendous misfortune... so far there are 50 dead - 22 from Mexico, seven from Guatemala, two from Honduras and 19 still without information about their nationality," the Mexican leader said at a morning press conference.

White House calls deaths of immigrants in Texas 'absolutely horrific and heartbreaking.'

The bodies of 46 dead migrants were discovered inside a tractor-trailer on Monday in San Antonio, Texas, city officials said, in one of the most deadly recent incidents of human smuggling along the United States.-Mexico border.

A San Antonio Fire Department official said they found "stacks of bodies" and no signs of water in the truck, which was found next to railroad tracks in a remote area on the city's southern outskirts.

Sixteen other people found inside the trailer were transported to hospitals for heat stroke and exhaustion, including four minors, but no children were among the dead, the department said.

"The patients that we saw were hot to the touch, they were suffering from heat stroke, exhaustion," San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood told a news conference. "It was a refrigerated tractor-trailer but there was no visible working air conditioning unit on that rig."

The deaths once again highlight the challenge of controlling migrant crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border, which have reached record highs.

Donald Trump. Republicans have criticized Biden's border strategy ahead of the midterm congressional elections in November.

As reported by Reuters, Mexico's Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard called the suffocation of the migrants in the truck the "tragedy in Texas" on Twitter and said consular officials would go to the hospitals where victims had been taken to help "however possible."

Texas trailer tragedy: 22 Mexicans among dead migrants, White House says 'heartbreaking'

US senators on Thursday (June 23) advanced a bipartisan bill that addressed gun violence in the country. The reforms are expected to be rubber-stamped by the House of Representatives. The bill approves a narrow package of new firearms restrictions and billions of dollars in mental health and school security funding

The bill is stil short of demands of gun safety advocates and President Joe Biden. But it has been hailed as a life-saving breakthrough.

Gun rights are enshrined in US Constitution and any attempt to introduce gun control meets stiff political resistance, especially from Republican party.

But shooting in Texas school in which 19 children lost lives created an uproar in public increasing pressure on lawmakers to act.

"This bipartisan legislation will help protect Americans," Biden said in a statement shortly after the Senate vote. "Kids in schools and communities will be safer because of it."

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which was backed by all 50 Democratic senators and 15 Republicans, includes enhanced background checks for buyers under the age of 21, $11 billion in funding for mental health and $2 billion for school safety programs.

It also provides funding to incentivize states to implement "red flag" laws to remove firearms from people considered a threat.

The bill also plugs the so-called 'boyfriend' loophole. This loophole let domestic abusers evade ban on buying firearms if they were not married to or living with their victim.

"Tonight, the United States Senate is doing something many believed was impossible even a few weeks ago: we are passing the first significant gun safety bill in nearly 30 years," Senate Democratic majority leader Chuck Schumer said after the legislation passed.

"The gun safety bill we are passing tonight can be described with three adjectives: bipartisan, common sense, lifesaving."

His Republican counterpart Mitch McConnell said the legislation would make America safer "without making our country one bit less free."

"This is a common-sense package. Its provisions are very, very popular. It contains zero new restrictions, zero new waiting periods, zero mandates and zero bans of any kind for law-abiding gun owners."

US Senate advances bipartisan bill on gun safety

Texas School Shooting: The district police chief who delayed responding in the Texas school shooting incident has been put on administrative leave. He was in charge of the law enforcement response in Uvalde on May 24.

Texas School Shooting Probe: Officer who delayed response on administrative leave

School district police chief who delayed assault against Texas school shootout gunman has been put on administrative leave. The shootout at Robb Elementary School in Texas has killed 19 school children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas.

Chief Pete Arredondo was in charge of the law enforcement response in Uvalde on May 24 and will be replaced by Lieutenant Mike Hernandez, Superintendent Hal Harrell said in a statement.

Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday (June 21) called police response "an abject failure" as police officials failed to intervene immediately while the shooter was still holed up in the classroom where children were slain

As per the police practice, an official needs to immediately confront a school shooter even if it puts officers' lives in danger.

Arredondo defended his actions saying that his primary concern was to save the lives of as many teachers and students as possible. But he said officers on scene could not find a key to unlock the door to the classroom until 77 minutes after the massacre began.

However, the public safety chief, Steven McCraw, told a Texas Senate hearing on Tuesday that the door was not locked and there was no evidence officers tried to see if it was secured while others searched for a key.

Arredondo, who was elected to the Uvalde City Council shortly before the shooting, is also in danger of losing his council seat. He has requested a leave of absence and missed Tuesday night's city council meeting, when the rest of the city council on Tuesday denied him a leave of absence.

If he misses three straight meetings, the council can remove him.

Maryland, on Thursday (June 9), joined the list of places in the USA with recent incidents of shootouts. A shooter opened fire at a factory in northern Maryland. Authorities said that at least three people were dead.

The suspect was not immediately identified. The shooter opened fire at Columbia Machine Inc's factory in Smithsburg, Maryland, Fox News reported. It was not immediately clear what was the motive behind the shooting.

Aerial footage showed police vehicles at the scene of the shooting.

"We are actively monitoring the mass shooting in #Smithsburg right now, and our office is in contact with officials on the ground," US Representative David Trone of Maryland said on Twitter.

"If you're local, please stay away from the area as law enforcement responds," Trone said.

Columbia Machine supplies concrete manufacturing equipment to customers in over 100 countries, according to its website.

The USA has been rattled by a spate of shootouts recently. The shootout at Robb Elementary School in Texas claimed lives of 19 children and two teachers. Oklahoma and New York were two more places where shootings took place.

Gun rights are enshrined in US Constitution and any attempt to control wide and easy availability of guns meets heavy political opposition, particularly from Republican Party.

US House of Representatives on June 8 passed a gun control bill but chances of the the bill passing in US Senate are slim since Democratic Party would need support from Republican lawmakers.

Ten-year old Texas school shooting victims who were sweethearts to be buried next to each other

US House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a wide-ranging gun control bill. The bill, tabled in the wake of recent shootouts in Texas and New York, seeks to raise minimum age limit for the purchase of semi-automatic rifles. It also provides for the prohibition of sale of ammunition magazines with more than 15 rounds of capacity.

The bill was passed by near party-line votes of 223-204. Although it has been passed in the House, chances of it actually becoming a law are slim as Senate pursues negotiations focused on improving mental health programs, bolstering school security and enhancing background checks.

But passage of the bill in House gives Democratic Party lawmakers a chance to send message to the voters. Midterm elections are due in November this year.

"We can't save every life, but my God, shouldn't we try? America we hear you and today in the House we are taking the action you are demanding," said Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas.

"Take note of who is with you and who is not."

The passage of the bill came on the same day when a House committee heard testimony from survivors of shootout in Texas school. The testimonies included one from Miah Cerrillo, an 11-year-old girl who smeared blood of a dead classmate to play dead in front of the gunman. The girl's testimony left some lawmakers in tears.

USA suffers from regular gun violence including mass shootouts. Unlike in the past, the Congress has been stirred into action after shooting of 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas. This time, lawmakers from both parties have expressed need to do something.

"It's sickening, it's sickening that our children are forced to live in this constant fear," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Pelosi said the House vote would "make history by making progress." But it's unclear where the House measure will go after Wednesday's vote, given that Republicans were adamant in their opposition.

"The answer is not to destroy the Second Amendment, but that is exactly where the Democrats want to go," said Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

"Take note of who is with you and who is not." The passage of the bill came on the same day when a House committee heard testimony from survivors of shootout in Texas school. The testimonies included one from Miah Cerrillo, an 11-year-old girl who smeared blood of a dead classmate to play dead in front of the gunman. The girl's testimony left some lawmakers in tears.
