The widely panned movie musical "Cats" and four of its stars were nominated on Saturday for Razzie awards, an annual ritual that lampoons the worst of cinema.

James Corden, Judi Dench, Rebel Wilson, and Francesca Hayward received Razzie acting nominations for their 'Cats' roles, in which they were costumed in digitally created fur.

Oscar-winner Dench was singled out for "looking suspiciously similar to The Cowardly Lion from Wizard of Oz," organizers said in a statement announcing this year's nominees.

Overall, 'Cats' was given eight Razzie nominations, tying for the lead with Tyler Perry's 'A Madea Family Funeral', and Sylvester Stallone's 'Rambo: Last Blood'. All three movies are in the running for worst picture, alongside psychological thriller "The Fanatic" and horror flick "The Haunting of Sharon Tate."

'Cats', an adaptation of the popular Broadway musical of the same name, was released in December and drew widespread ridicule from film critics. The $95 million production flopped at the box office, taking in just $69.7 million at theaters worldwide, according to website Box Office Mojo.

The tongue-in-cheek Razzies, created in 1980, serve as an antidote to Hollywood’s glitzy Academy Awards ceremony. Nominees were announced a day before the bestowing of the Oscars, the highest honors in the movie industry.

John Travolta received two Razzie nominations this year for 'The Fanatic' and 'Trading Paint', as did Anne Hathaway for 'The Hustle' and 'Serenity'. Her 'Serenity' co-star Matthew McConaughey also was named.

The worst screen combo category piled on 'Cats' with a nomination for "any two half-feline/half-human hairballs."

It was not all bad news. Eddie Murphy was nominated for the Razzie Redeemer Reward for his role in 'Dolemite is My Name', along with Jennifer Lopez in 'Hustlers' and Adam Sandler in 'Uncut Gems'. The redeemer award goes to a past Razzie nominee or winner who has recently earned acclaim.

Razzie nominees and winners are voted for online by around 1,000 Razzie members from more than two dozen countries, who sign up online and pay a $40 membership fee.
Organizers have not unveiled a date for the announcement of the winners.

Another music insider said, “It’s widely known in the industry that [Swift’s team] called to find out if she was getting a Grammy, they wouldn’t tell her, so she didn’t go. It’s not uncommon [for an artist] to want to know. And everyone knows Taylor loves to win, win, win.”

After the heated controversy, Scooter Braun finally broke his silence on the dispute between Taylor Swift and her former label, Big Machine Records.

In a Q&A at the 2019 Entertainment Industry Conference on Thursday, the 38-year-old music manager addressed the public fissure after keeping quiet on the matter for months since his Ithica Holdings purchased Big Machine Records back in June, reported a news agency.

The businessman opened up about the same when he was asked by the moderator Shirley Halperin about how he wraps his head around having so many Swift fans casting him as the villain in the very public feud.

"I haven't talked about this in six months. Not once. I haven't made a statement about it," Braun confessed, according to a news agency. "When there's a lot of things being said and a lot of different opinions, yet the principals haven't had a chance to speak to each other, there's a lot of confusion," he continued.

"I'm not going to go into details here, because it's just not my style ".I just think we live in a time of toxic division, and of people thinking that social media is the appropriate place to air out on each other and not have conversations," Braun added.

And I don't like politicians doing it. I don't like anybody doing it, and if that means that I've got to be the bad guy longer, I'll be the bad guy longer, but I'm not going to participate.

''As per the outlet, Braun appeared to suggest a statement from Big Machine, which claimed that the label and Swift had been in talks, which apparently ended after she went on social media to vent her anger".

''What I'll say is, people, need to communicate, and when people are able to communicate, I think they work things out," Braun noted. "And I think a lot of times things are miscommunications because I believe that people are fundamentally good. I think there are a lot of real problems in the world, and I think that these problems that are being discussed can be discussed behind closed doors and figured out pretty easily, and it's something I've wanted to do for six months".

"And it's hard because I can handle it pretty easily, but when it gets to a place where there are death threats and there's offices being called and people being threatened. ... It's gotten out of hand," he added.

"And I think people need to come together and have a conversation because that's not what we got in this industry for," he added. As previously reported, the $ 300 million sale effectively meant that Braun now owns the masters to Swift's first six albums a deal the singer-songwriter has called "my worst-case scenario".

Following the sale, Swift alleged in a lengthy blog post that she was never informed of the deal and had her previous requests to buy back her masters denied. She also accused Braun of manipulative bullying.

Singer Taylor Swift surprised fans with new music from the upcoming musical fantasy drama 'Cats' ahead of its release date. On Friday at midnight, the 29-year singer released her new original song, 'Beautiful Ghosts', from the upcoming Tom Hooper directorial Tony-winning musical, reported a magazine.

The haunting melody, which she co-wrote with the musical's legendary composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber speaks to a feeling of longing to be wanted and reminiscing on better memories.

In the ballad, Swift is given an opportunity to show off her impressive pipes beyond her typical country-pop style, and the star certainly delivers. While the entire song is chillingly-beautiful, it's the final note of the song that Swift belts that genuinely stands out among the rest.

"All that I wanted was to be wanted too young to wander London streets, alone and haunted/Born into nothing/At least you have something to cling to," she can be heard singing. "Visions of dazzling rooms I'll never get let into/and the memories were lost long ago/but at least you have beautiful ghosts".

Taylor Swift surprises fans with new song 'Beautiful Ghosts' from 'Cats' musical drama

Amid Taylor Swift's ongoing onslaught with Big Machine Record's Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta, singer Selena Gomez has decided to side with Swift.

Gomez, who jumped to the defense of her longtime friend Swift, said that the singer is extremely "sick and angry" and accused the music executives of having "robbed and crushed" her.

In a lengthy post shared on Instagram story on Friday, the 'Wolves' singer wrote, "It makes me sick and extremely angry". "It's greed, manipulation, and power. There is no heart or thought of anyone else's. No respect for the words my friend has written since she was a 14 year old in her bedroom You've robbed and crushed one of the best songwriters of our time and opportunity to celebrate all of her music with fans end the world," she continued in the post.

Adding that her and Swift's friendship goes back to around 13 years, Gomez raved about her saying, "She is the most dedicated, targeted, hasty, strongest woman I've ever known. People can say bitch but what In saying to you is that's called a woman with true identity And strength who takes no shit".

Referring to her 2008 album 'Fearless', Gomez expressed that it turned out to be one of the biggest records, "an album that saved so many young women who felt alone. Who was healing? Those who felt invisible. Gave a voice to those who didn`t know that they had one all along".

She went on further saying that "I really hope there is a change of heart over this unfortunate situation. Seeing my boss friend or any of my friends be constantly pulled down Is the worst feeling".

The post came a day after Swift sent a note to fans stating that she planned to perform at the American Music Awards, where she is being honoured as the Artist of the Decade. However, Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records are trying to cancel her performance until she accepts that she won't re-record her songs in the future she alleged.

The allegations leveled by Swift have been denied by the label in a statement that read, "At no point did we say Taylor could not perform on the AMAs or block her Netflix special. In fact, we do not have the right to keep her from performing live anywhere. Since Taylor's decision to leave Big Machine last fall, we have continued to honour all of her requests to license her catalog to third parties as she promotes her current record".

Selena Gomez sides with Taylor Swift in battle with Big Machine Records

Taylor Swift on Thursday publicly reignited her battle with the heads of her former label, saying it is threatening to bar her from going through with an upcoming performance and Netflix documentary over her plans to re-record her early albums.

Earlier this year the superstar began feuding with industry mogul Scooter Braun over his purchase of her former label for more than a decade, the Nashville-based Big Machine, which gave him a majority stake in the master recordings of her first six albums.

Swift said she would begin re-recording her early albums to create copies she owns herself, saying her contract allows her to begin re-doing albums one through five in November 2020, when she plans to be back in the studio doing just that.

But now the 29-year-old said Braun and Scott Borchetta, president and CEO of Big Machine, are "exercising tyrannical control" over her, telling her team that she's "not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my music before I'm allowed to next year."

Such a claim would stifle her scheduled performance at this month's American Music Awards, where she will receive an Artist of the Decade award.

"Additionally - and this isn't the way I had planned on telling you this news - Netflix has created a documentary about my life for the past few years. Scott and Scooter have declined the use of my older music or performance footage for this project, even though there is no mention of either of them or Big Machine Records anywhere in the film," Swift said in a Tumblr post.

"Scott Borchetta told my team that they'll allow me to use my music only if I do these things: If I agree to not re-record copycat versions of my songs next year (which is something I'm both legally allowed to do and looking forward to) and also told my team that I need to stop talking about him and Scooter Braun."

The owner of coveted masters -- one-of-a-kind source material used to create vinyls, CDs and digital copies -- is able to dictate how songs are reproduced and sold.

Swift wrote she feels "very strongly that sharing what is happening to me could change the awareness level for other artists and potentially help them avoid a similar fate."

"The message being sent to me is very clear," she continued. "Basically, be a good little girl and shut up."

"Or you'll be punished."

Swift pleaded to her fans and fellow artists to back her against Braun and Borchetta, who have not made any public statements regarding the singer's latest post.

American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber have written a new song for the film adaptation of hit musical 'Cats', which will be performed by ballerina Francesca Hayward in the highly-anticipated movie.

'Beautiful Ghosts' will also be sung by Swift, who stars as Bombalurina in her first film role, over the end credits.

'Cats', which hits cinemas in December, is based on Lloyd Webber's hugely-popular stage musical and features a star-studded cast including Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, James Corden, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson and Rebel Wilson.

Royal Ballet principal dancer Hayward plays Victoria, a role that has been further developed in the movie, where the actors' faces are seen and their bodies are covered in computer generated fur.

"When I first read the screenplay, the first thing I said was, 'We have to have a song for Victoria'," Lloyd Webber said in a statement, adding that the new song was an incredibly important and central part of the whole film.

A behind-the-scenes video showed Swift, Lloyd Webber and Oscar winning director Tom Hooper in the recording studio, as well as snippets of Hayward in the film.

"There was an ambition and an aspiration to have an original song in the movie," Swift says in the video. "Just very much this understanding of like 'Let’s write the best song we can'."

After a recent feud between singers Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, Bieber insisted that all is cool between the two stars. In footage published online, the pop star was asked if everything is cool between him and Swift and he responded saying, "We've always been cool," reported news agency.

"Always homies. I'm done with all that other stuff. Other people's drama is not my drama," Bieber added before driving away. He is probably referring to the drama between his music manager, Scooter Braun, and Swift, who in June said that she was not given a chance to purchase her master recordings before Braun's company acquired her former record label and her old songs.

In a public statement, Swift said ''she was sad and grossed out by the incident and accused Braun of incessant, manipulative bullying for years." The singer also cited a 2016 Instagram post from Bieber that showed him FaceTiming with Braun and Kanye West.

"Taylor swift what up," the since-deleted caption read. In response, Bieber apologised for the post, which he termed as distasteful and insensitive, and defended Braun ".

Scooter has had your back since the days you graciously let me open up for you. As the years have passed we haven't crossed paths and gotten to communicate our differences, hurts or frustrations. So for you to take it to social media and get people to hate on a scooter isn't fair," he said in a lengthy Instagram post.

The 'Sorry' singer continued, "What were you trying to accomplish by posting that blog? Seems to me like it was to get sympathy u also knew that in posting that your fans would go and bully scooter. Anyway, One thing I know is both scooters and I love you. I feel like the only way to resolve conflict is through communication. So banter back and forth online I don't believe solves anything''.

"I'm sure Scooter and I would love to talk to you and resolve any conflict, pain or any feelings that need to be addressed. Neither scooter or I have anything negative to say about you we truly want the best for you. I usually don't rebuttal things like this but when you try and deface someone I love a character that's crossing a line," the singer added.

Recently, Bieber made headlines when he imitated a viral clip of Swift that had aired on 'The Tonight Show' during his Instagram Live. In the footage taken by Swift's mother, the star, who was recovering from LASIK eye surgery at that time of the video, got upset after accidentally picking a banana she didn't want off the vine.

Bieber's re-enactment caught the attention of Swift's fans, who were not pleased given the two singers' history.
