US President Donald Trump says a “whole civilization will die tonight” as his imposed Tuesday 8 p.m. ET deadline on Iran to make a deal and open the Strait of Hormuz approaches. But, he added, “maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?”

The US struck military targets overnight on Iran’s strategic Kharg Island — from which almost all the country’s oil is exported — according to a US official, who added the strikes did not target oil facilities.

US-Iran War: Iran's Kharg Island Targeted With Multiple Strikes

US president Donald trump's flip flop in recent weeks has Iran firmly in control of the strait of Hormuz. Maritime traffic through the strait has shown a slight increase, reaching its highest levels in weeks. Yet, it remains a small fraction of the volume seen before the Iran war began on February 28th.

US-Iran War: Tehran Fortifies Strategic Islands Near Strait of Hormuz

With just hours left before a dramatic deadline set by Donald Trump, global attention is fixed on whether Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but vital shipping lane that carries nearly a fifth of the world’s oil supply. The US President has warned of unleashing the “gates of hell” if Tehran fails to restore maritime traffic through the strategic waterway. However, Iran has shown no signs of backing down, rejecting both Washington’s demands and a proposed temporary ceasefire, even as tensions in the region intensify.<h2>War rhetoric rises as deadline passes</h2>The standoff came amid an escalating conflict between the United States and Iran that has already claimed thousands of lives across Iran, Israel, Lebanon and the wider West Asian region. Missile exchanges continue, with critical infrastructure increasingly in the crosshairs. Trump has further hardened his stance, stating he is “not at all” concerned about potential war crimes as he threatens strikes on Iranian bridges and power plants if the Strait remains closed. The United Nations has warned that any deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure would violate international law.&nbsp;Meanwhile, the continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has sent energy markets into turmoil, driving oil prices higher and fuelling fears of a prolonged global economic shock.<h2>Three possible ways Hormuz could reopen</h2>Also read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/-don-t-care-about-critics-trump-dismisses-backlash-over-expletive-laden-iran-post-1775550899860">‘Don’t care about critics’: Trump dismisses backlash over expletive Iran post</a>&nbsp;As the crisis deepens, analysts say there are three primary scenarios through which the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened - each carrying significant geopolitical consequences.&nbsp;1. Ceasefire agreement with Iran&nbsp;The most immediate, and arguably most plausible, pathway is a negotiated ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. Under such a deal, Iran could agree to reopen the strait either temporarily or under specific conditions while broader diplomatic talks continue. However, experts caution that this would likely leave Tehran firmly in control of the waterway.&nbsp;Even in a de-escalated scenario, Iran could impose informal tolls or restrictions, effectively transforming Hormuz into a controlled chokepoint. Any added costs would likely ripple through global markets in the form of higher oil prices. This option hinges on whether Iran is willing to make concessions under mounting military and economic pressure, something it has resisted so far.&nbsp;2. US-led military intervention&nbsp;A second, far more aggressive option would involve direct military action by the United States to forcibly reopen the strait. Such an operation could include clearing naval mines, escorting oil tankers, and securing key Iranian strategic assets. Washington has already deployed tens of thousands of troops to the region, signalling its capability to act.&nbsp;But this route carries substantial risks, including the prospect of a wider regional war and significant casualties. So far, the US appears cautious about launching unilateral action without strong backing from its allies, support that remains uncertain.&nbsp;3. Multinational effort led by the UN&nbsp;Also read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/iran-war-strait-of-hormuz-ship-traffic-numbers-report-1775549856139">An analyst went to Strait of Hormuz and observed the traffic. The Council has already passed a resolution addressing maritime security in the Gulf, and a broader mandate could pave the way for a multinational naval coalition to secure the strait and guarantee safe passage for commercial shipping.&nbsp;Countries such as the UK and Australia, along with key Asian economies dependent on Gulf oil, could contribute forces, though such an initiative would likely materialise only after active hostilities subside. This is widely seen as a fallback option, particularly if the US scales back its involvement without resolving the crisis.&nbsp;

An Iranian musician, Ali Ghamsari, delivered a traditional tar performance while seated on a mat outside the Damavand power plant in a dramatic response to rising geopolitical tensions. The act came after US President Donald Trump issued severe warnings about threatening to destroy Iran's energy facilities. Several videos of the musician surfaced on social media showing Ghamsari calmly playing the tar, a long-necked instrument central to Persian classical music, while seated in a traditional setting. Known for his mastery of Persian classical compositions, Ghamsari used the performance as a symbolic expression.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth has called on youth grups, including athletes, artists and students, to assemble at these locations from 2:00 pm (local) on Tuesday. This planned gathering is scheduled roughly 13 hours before the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which expires at 3:30 am local time on Wednesday. "This action (the human chain) has been formed at the suggestion of the youth themselves," Iran's Deputy of Youth Affairs, Alireza Rahimi, said in a video message.&nbsp;"A number of university youth, young artists, and youth organisations proposed that we form a human ring or human chain around the country's power plants," he added.&nbsp;&nbsp; Also read: '<a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/where-is-kidnapped-us-journalist-shelly-kittleson-iran-us-war-kataib-hezbollah-abducted-in-iraq-american-journalist-1775535357917/1775535357919">May be alive but...': Where is kidnapped US journalist Shelly Kittleson?</a>

US' 15-point proposal ‘excessively demanding’, says Iran ahead of Trump's deadline

An Iranian official has declared that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened under foreign pressure, signaling continued tensions in the US-Iran conflict. The strategic waterway, which carries about a fifth of the world’s oil and LNG shipments, remains effectively blocked, raising global energy concerns.

BREAKING | Iranian Official: Won't Reopen Hormuz Under Pressure

The United States’ military campaign against Iran, launched on February 28 in concert with Israel, is not merely a conflict over nuclear proliferation or regional dominance. It is, at its core, a war with deep economic underpinnings—rooted in Washington’s determination to protect the petrodollar system that has sustained American financial supremacy for half a century.

Hormuz Flashpoint Could Accelerate Global De-Dollarisation

Fresh intelligence assessments indicate thatIran is maintaining firm control over the Strait of Hormuz, using it as a strategic pressure point in its ongoing standoff with the United States.

According to multiple sources, Tehran is unlikely to fully restore normal movement through the crucial maritime corridor anytime soon. Instead, it is carefully managing vessel traffic, allowing selective passage while restricting others to influence global oil supply and prices.

Tensions in the US‑Iran war and a looming 48‑hour ultimatum over the Strait of Hormuz are roiling global energy markets, driving oil and fuel prices sharply higher as traders price in continued supply disruption and geopolitical risk. The narrow strait handles about 20% of the world’s oil exports, and its effective closure has pushed crude above recent highs, impacting inflation, fuel costs, and economic activity across Asia, Europe, and the United States.

US President Donald Trump Warns Iran Hours Before His Ultimatum for Peace Deal Ends

President Donald Trump on Sunday warned Iran of dire consequences if it does not open the Strait of Hormuz before the deadline ends on Tuesday.

President Trump threatened that the U.S. would blow up Iran's energy and civilian infrastructure if it did not adhere to his deadline for allowing the flow of vessels through the crucial Strait of Hormuz waterway.

US-Iran War: President Trump To Hold Press Conference Hours Before Deadline Ends

US President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route. With nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply affected, tensions have surged sharply. The US has warned of possible military action if Tehran fails to comply. Recent strikes near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear facility and attacks on key petrochemical hubs have further escalated the crisis, sending shockwaves through global energy markets.

Iran Responds To Trump's Hormuz Deadline, Says Entire Region Would Become 'Hell' If Attacks Escalate

The India‑flagged LPG tanker Green Asha has become the ninth Indian vessel to transit the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Gulf. The passage underscores New Delhi’s efforts to keep vital energy supply lines open despite disruptions to maritime traffic caused by the ongoing regional conflict.

Despite the ongoing conflict, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is beginning to recover, with the seven-day average of ship transits hitting its highest level since the conflict began on February 28.

US Vs Iran: Hormuz Transits Hit Weekly High Since Feb 28

The Strait of Hormuz crisis is entering a new phase as Iran allows selective vessel passage while restricting broader maritime traffic through one of the world’s most critical oil chokepoints. Nearly 20% of global oil trade passes through the strait, making every move by Tehran strategically significant. Analysts say the controlled transit suggests a calibrated pressure tactic, enabling Iran to influence global energy flows without triggering a full blockade. Is this selective access a warning signal—or a bargaining tool in the escalating US-Iran conflict?

Hormuz Crisis: Selective Passage Signals Iran's Calculated Strategy?

Iran is employing a calculated, calibrated strategy to tighten control over the Strait of Hormuz, using its Revolutionary Guard to disrupt commercial shipping and demand passage fees. This "toll gate" approach, combined with threats to block traffic, impacts 20% of global oil, driving up fuel prices and creating severe global energy disruption.

Iran's Calculated Strategy: Hormuz Strait Tensions Spark Global Alarm

US President Donald Trump says Iran has 48 hours to "make a deal" or open the Strait of Hormuz before "Hell will reign down on them". In his angry tone Trump spells rain as reign.
Tensions explode as Trump issues a final 48-hour warning to Iran. Two US fighter jets have been downed, and one airman remains missing after 24 hours. Search-and-rescue operations are intensifying as the world watches this high-stakes crisis unfold.
