According to reports, Iran plans tolls on Strait of Hormuz shipping as war disrupts vital oil and gas route, raising global trade and energy concerns

#Gravitas U.S. President Donald Trump is now threatening to hit Iran where it hurts the most, water. He has openly warned that if Tehran refuses a ceasefire and fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, American forces could target and destroy Iran’s desalination plants, the very systems that supply drinking water across the country.

US-Iran War: Trump Threatens to Use Water as a Weapon in West Asia War

Pakistan has said it is ready to host talks between the United States and Iran as part of efforts to end the ongoing conflict. Officials stated Islamabad would be “honoured” to facilitate negotiations in the coming days, though participation from both sides remains unconfirmed.

The announcement came as top diplomats from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt gathered in Islamabad for high-level discussions focused on de-escalation and a possible diplomatic pathway forward.

Talks have centred on reducing tensions, reopening key trade routes like the Strait of Hormuz, and exploring options for direct or indirect dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday night aboard Air Force One said that, the Iran has allowed almost 20 cargo ships of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, starting on Monday, March 30. He called this a “tribute” and a “sign of respect” to the US. He also implied that Tehran's decision was a sign that the negotiations are underway and the war was coming to an end. However, it was not clear where these 20 ships were headed. China and India are the major buyers of Iranian oil. The ship could also belong to the Gulf nations.&nbsp;“As you know, they agreed to send eight boats two days ago, and they added another two. So, that’s 10 boats. So, today they gave us as a tribute…I don’t know, I can’t describe it exactly…I think out of a sign of respect, 20 boats of oil, big, big boats of oil going through the Hormuz Strait. That’s taking place starting tomorrow morning over the next couple of days. I would only say that we are doing extremely well in negotiations,” said Trump to the reporters aboard Air Force One.&nbsp; Also read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/us-iran-war-day-30-kharg-island-escalation-global-impact-1774799290072">US-Iran war day 30: Kharg Island showdown, regional escalation and global market shock</a><h2>Do the 20 ships belong to Pakistan?</h2>Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Isaq Dar confirmed that Iran has approved 20 Pakistani-flagged vessels to sail through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran War: Sanction Waiver Boosts Iran's Oil Revenue

Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, have sent global energy markets into shock. The narrow maritime corridor carries a significant share of the world’s crude oil and LNG shipments, making any instability there a major concern for global supply chains.

Strait of Hormuz Disruption Sends Energy Markets into Shock

Iran has effectively turned the Strait of Hormuz into a strategic lever by restricting, rather than fully blocking, maritime traffic, creating a severe global oil supply crunch. By utilizing kinetic strikes, mines, and selective passage (allowing 90 ships but restricting others), Iran is forcing higher prices and controlling regional energy flow, prompting panic buying in Asia.

Tensions in West Asia continue to escalate as Iran reportedly targeted a US-linked logistics vessel near Oman, carefully avoiding territorial waters. The incident highlights a growing maritime dimension to the conflict, with the Strait of Hormuz once again in focus as a critical global oil chokepoint. As both sides trade strikes and claims, the war approaches the one-month mark with no clear signs of de-escalation.

Iran Turns Hormuz Into Strategic Lever With Control, Oil Supply Crunch Deepens

The Strait of Hormuz’s geography favors Iran by offering a narrow (approx. 21-mile wide), shallow, and easily monitored chokepoint that forces global oil traffic close to its shores, providing immense asymmetrical advantages. Iran utilizes this terrain to deploy coastal missiles, mines, and small, fast-attack boats, effectively turning a vital global energy route into a defensible bottleneck that it can disrupt, according to Moneycontrol.com.

The group has threatened that they will open a new war front, blocking another key global trade route - the Bab al-Mandab Strait, or the Gate of Tears, even as Iran continues to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, driving oil prices up.Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/-a-bad-start-for-iran-s-new-supreme-leader-trump-confirms-cia-told-him-mojtaba-khamenei-is-gay-1774570805558">'A bad start' for Iran's new Supreme Leader?
