Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday continued their winning run as they defeated Kings XI Punjab by 2 runs in what was a proper humdinger in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. With the win, KKR move to the third spot in the IPL 2020 points table whereas KXIP continue their stay at the bottom of the standings.

KKR used similar tactics which they applied against Chennai Super Kings to win the match in a similar fashion. Dinesh Karthik smartly used Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine to choke the KXIP batters in the second half of the chase after openers Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul stitched a 115-run stand.

The request for shorter quarantine period for Team India players in Brisbane by the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is likely to be rejected forcing the Indian players and staff undergo the mandated quarantine phase ahead of their tour of Australia, as per a report.

In the earlier bilateral series hosted by England, visiting players from the West Indies and Pakistan underwent a two-week quarantine period before being allowed to take the field.

"Queensland health officials are set to make cricket''s most powerful nation adhere to strict national protocols, details of which have delayed Cricket Australia announcing a revised schedule for its USD 300 million summer," the daily wrote in its report.

The BCCI is looking for a reduced quarantine phase and the Indian board wants the players to be allowed to train in a bio-secure bubble rather than being forced inside their hotel rooms as the Indian board thinks it will hamper the fitness of its players.

"We just hope the number of quarantine days get reduced a bit. Because we don''t want the players to go all that far and sit in hotel rooms for two weeks. It is very, very depressing and disappointing. We are looking at that, the quarantine thing," Ganguly had said in July.

The report stated that the BCCI has filed an application while requesting that an extended squad along with staff, coaches and families land in Brisbane after the completion of the ongoing Indian Premier League.

"Queensland Health is currently assessing an application received from the Indian cricket team. We will work directly with the team as the assessment progresses," a QH spokeswoman said.

India are set to travel to Australia with a squad of 23 to 25 playing members across formats. As per reports, white-ball series will be played before the Test series followed by T20I series.

The four-match Test series is slated to start on December 17.

Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford was honoured by Queen Elizabeth II on Friday in recognition of his campaign to feed vulnerable children, alongside hundreds of key workers who helped in the fight against the coronavirus.

The England international is one of the highest-profile figures in the monarch's birthday honours list, which was postponed from June in order to include frontline health workers and others in the Covid-19 effort.

The 22-year-old forced a government U-turn over its free school meals policy, ensuring children in need would receive meal vouchers throughout the summer months, and has formed a child food poverty task force.

Rashford, who has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), said he was "honoured and humbled" to receive the award.

"Let's stand together in saying that no children in the UK should be going to bed hungry," he said. "As I have said many times before, no matter your feeling or opinion, not having access to food is never the child's fault."

Fitness expert Joe Wicks, whose daily online exercise sessions drew millions of viewers across the globe, is also being made an MBE.

Rapper Lady Leshurr is being awarded the British Empire Medal after releasing a coronavirus-related song this year reminding people to wash their hands.

"I can't believe that the queen of England has noticed and commended the queen of grime," she said.

Of those who have been honoured, nearly three-quarters have worked for their local communities, reflecting the huge voluntary effort in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

"This year's honours recipients are a testament to the sort of country we are -- caring, compassionate and resolute in the face of a global pandemic," said Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

"The hard work and dedication of these local, often unsung heroes has helped carry us through. I congratulate them all."

More than 42,000 people have died in the outbreak in Britain -- the worst toll in Europe -- and concern is currently mounting about rising infection numbers.

The honours list includes 100-year-old Dabirul Islam Choudhury, was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) after he raised £420,000 ($545,000) for Covid-19 relief while fasting during Ramadan.

Several experts working in the science, health and pharmaceutical fields have also been recognised for their efforts, including Emma Walmsley, chief executive of pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, who becomes a dame.

"I'm humbled to receive this honour," said Walmsley. "It is a real testament to the many outstanding people we have at GSK and the work we do for patients and people here in the UK and around the world."

Ex-Wales rugby union coach Warren Gatland was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the sport in Wales while former British and Irish Lions captain Gareth Thomas has been awarded a CBE for services to sport and health.

"As I have said many times before, no matter your feeling or opinion, not having access to food is never the child's fault." Fitness expert Joe Wicks, whose daily online exercise sessions drew millions of viewers across the globe, is also being made an MBE. Rapper Lady Leshurr is being awarded the British Empire Medal after releasing a coronavirus-related song this year reminding people to wash their hands. "I can't believe that the queen of England has noticed and commended the queen of grime," she said. Novak Djokovic set up a blockbuster French Open title showdown with Rafael Nadal after a dramatic five-set semi-final victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, but insisted Sunday's eagerly-awaited championship duel will "not be the biggest match of my life."

World number one Djokovic, the 2016 champion at Roland Garros, reached his fifth final in Paris, defeating Greek fifth seed Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 4-6, 6-1 in a roller-coaster of a contest where he had held a match point in the third set.

Nadal, the 12-time champion, eased past Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (7/0) to make a 13th final at the tournament.

On Sunday, Djokovic can win an 18th major and become the first man in half a century to win all four Slams twice.

Nadal, the world number two, can equal Roger Federer's all-time record of 20 Grand Slam title wins.

Djokovic is one of only two men to have defeated Nadal at Roland Garros in 15 years.

"This is the house of Rafa," said Djokovic ahead of the pair's 56th career clash and his 27th appearance in a Slam final.

"I will have the motivation to win. I beat him in the quarter-finals in 2015 but this will be the biggest challenge - playing Nadal on clay."

However, the Serb insisted that he has played far more significant finals and pointed to his first win over Nadal at a Slam at Wimbledon in 2011.

"I don't think it's the biggest match that I have ever played in my life. I think there were some bigger ones," Djokovic said as he attempted to ease some of the expectations ahead of Sunday.

- 'Wimbledon win more important' -

"In terms of importance, probably the first Wimbledon final that I actually played against him.

"Wimbledon was always the one that I wanted to win as a kid and dreamed of winning. That's probably the one that stands out."

Djokovic also put his 2016 Paris final win over Andy Murray, which allowed him to celebrate a career Grand Slam, above Sunday's latest instalment of his Nadal rivalry.

"Every French Open final that I played was the match of my life before I actually won it."

On Friday, Djokovic showed no sign of the neck and shoulder injuries which blighted his performance against Pablo Carreno Busta in the last eight as he stormed into a comfortable two-set lead.

Tsitsipas had seen 10 break points come and go and his first Roland Garros semi-final looked to be heading for an early finish until he staged a stunning comeback.

In the 10th game of the third set, Djokovic was unable to convert a match point.

He then picked up a time violation and the Greek exploited the top seed's sudden unease to claim the third set.

Djokovic squandered a huge 10 break points in the fourth set as Tsitsipas, who had also been two sets down in his opening match against Jaume Munar, levelled the tie.

However, Tsitsipas, feeling a thigh injury picked up in Rome, faded away in the decider, dropping serve twice to hand Djokovic a 4-1 lead.

He saved another match point but was powerless on the third as Djokovic fired a clean winner.

- 'Toughest opponent' -

"I think Novak is one of the most difficult opponents I've faced in my entire life," said Tsitsipas.

For 34-year-old Nadal, his win over Schwartzman was his 99th at Roland Garros.

He is into his 28th final at the majors and has not dropped a set in the tournament this year.

Nadal has a 6-1 career edge of Djokovic at Roland Garros although their last meeting was in 2015 when Djokovic won in straight sets in the quarter-finals.

Amongst their five other meetings in the French capital were wins for Nadal in the 2012 and 2014 finals.

"Novak is one of the toughest opponents possible. But I am here to keep trying my best. I like to play in this scenario," said Nadal.

"I know I have to make a step forward. I think I did one today against Diego. But for Sunday it is not enough.

"I need to make another one. That's what I'm looking for. I going to work hard to try to make that happen."

Former England international and Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has been appointed the head coach of East Bengal for the next two years, team's principal owner Hari Mohan Bangur said on Friday.

"We have signed the contract last night (Thursday) and Robbie Fowler is expected to join the side directly in Goa within a week," Bangur, who has acquired a majority stake in East Bengal, confirmed the development to PTI from Dubai.

"As of now, we have offered him a two-year contract which could be extended in due course," Bangur said.

Former India captain Rennedy Singh will be Fowler's deputy. Rennedy is a former East Bengal captain also.

The owner and managing director of Shree Cement Limited, who has acquired a majority stake of 76 per cent, further revealed that the team will be known as SC East Bengal as they along with Mohun Bagan make it a 11-team ISL.

"It could be Sporting Club East Bengal or Shree Cement East Bengal as per your interpretation. We as a corporate group cannot prefix 'Shree Cement' to East Bengal so we have decided the team as 'SCEB," he said.

Premier League's all-time seventh highest goal scorer with 163 strikes to his name, the former English striker was a product of Liverpool youth academy and made his senior team debut in 1993.

He has been the third-higest goalscorer for the Reds where he played till 2001 before switching allegiance to arch-rivals Leeds United and then Manchester City.

In his managerial career, Fowler was with A-League side Brisbane Roar FC last season when they finished fourth.
Bangur said the first priority would be to make up for the lost time.

"We are already short on preparation, and will start with a handicap. So he will assemble the squad as early as possible in Goa. We will look to make a competitive side," Bangur said.

The 45-year-old Fowler also coached Thailand's top division club Muangthong United in the middle of his playing season there and guided the team to third place.

ISL: East Bengal appoint Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler as head coach

West Indies legend Brian Lara has lavished high praise on Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant as the former Windies skipper said the southpaw has “vastly” improved his overall game while adding that his off-side game has gone a notch above and Pant now has the ability to score runs in all parts of the ground.

Pant has played a vital role in providing Delhi Capitals a rampaging start in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 and has scored: 31, 37*, 28, 38, 37 in IPL 2020. Interestingly, he seems more cautious of playing his lofted strokes and is valuing his wicket more.

"I think he is a major asset for the Delhi Capitals, but today he has also vastly improved his game. I am talking about his batting and the improvements he made in that department," Brian Lara told Star Sports.

"On what is immediately noticeable is his propensity to try and get everything to the leg-side. Also, look at his run-scoring chart and that's quite a proof of that fascination he has with the on-side. I think he has come to the realization that this is not working and he went away and worked on improving his off-side play.

Lara further said that Pant has tweaked his game-style and doesn’t loses his balance to create strokes towards the leg-side of the field while adding the youngster has a long-long way to go.

"Now look at the changes he made. Now he has the ability to score runs in all parts of the ground. His scoring charts are looking impressive, and yes, more worry for the bowlers.

"He is now very well balanced and he is looking to score in key areas that he is not accustomed to scoring over extra cover, over point, in front of the point and his balance and his weight is staying there, he is not falling over to the off-side to create shots on the leg side.

"That is a vast improvement that he has made, which obviously going to help his all-round batting. I believe, this young lad has a long-long way to go," Lara added.

Meanwhile, Pant has accumulated as many as 1907 runs in 59 IPL matches, which includes a century and 11 half-centuries for Delhi Capitals. He will be seen in action against Rajasthan Royals on Friday in Sharjah.

The home series against England and Indian domestic season 2020-21 will be on the top of the agenda when the members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will assemble for the Apex Council meeting, which will be held virtually on October 17.

Apart from the home series against England and postponed Indian domestic season, the schedule of the upcoming tour of Australia will also be discussed in the BCCI Apex Council meeting.

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had earlier said that the board will do its best to host the full-fledged home series against England in India amid the COVID-19 concerns. The domestic season, including Ranji Trophy and other tournaments, are also a concern and the Indian board will look to find a possible solution in the BCCI ACM.

The situation surrounding COVID-19 pandemic forced the BCCI to shift the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in the UAE and there were reports that the series against England could be moved to the UAE.

Meanwhile, England are scheduled to tour India in 2021 in January-March to play 5 Tests, 3 ODIs and as many T20Is.

However, the BCCI are still looking to stage the series in India and create bio-secure bubbles in three venues – Wankhede Stadium, DY Patil Stadium and Cricket Club of India. The Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad is also been looked into.

The BCCI Apex Council meeting is also set to touch upon domestic tournaments such as Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy given that the tournaments are bread and butter for many cricketers in India.

Hyderabad cruised to a 69-run win against Punjab in Match 22 of the 2020 IPL, at Dubai. Hyderabad got 201/6 largely due to a 160-run opening stand off 91 balls, between David Warner (52 in 40 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (97 in 55). Punjab were then bowled out for a mere 132, Rashid Khan leading the way with 4-1-12-3, the high point being a double-wicket maiden in the 15th over.

In the My11 Circle Cricbuzz Live, Michael Vaughan praised the Hyderabad openers: “If they come out and play the way they did today, the Warner-Bairstow combination … When they have a night out, they are very difficult to stop. They run between the wickets hard, they are powerful, [they are a] left-hand-right-hand combination.”

“He is a class act,” added Vaughan, making special mention of Bairstow, who was named Player of the Match. “If you look at white-ball cricket of the last five years, you have to put him in the top bracket because of the consistent levels at which he has performed … He is a powerful player. You can see the way he can strike the ball. He is so busy, so difficult to keep quiet because he runs between the wickets so hard.”

Vaughan criticised Punjab’s strategies, pointing out that Mujeeb Ur Rahman is not good enough to bat at No. 7. “There are too many brains, too many chefs in the kitchen. It’s a simple game that has almost been overcomplicated … But the basics of the game haven’t changed. I don’t care what format it is – you don’t send Mujeeb to deal [with] Rashid [Khan]”.

“To be brutally honest, they [Punjab] have got some good individuals that, on their day, can surprise anyone,” added Vaughan, citing the example of Nicholas Pooran, who helped himself to the fastest fifty of the season, off 17 balls, and finished on 77 from 37 balls. However, Vaughan concluded that “is just not a good team,” contrasting them with more balanced sides like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

“Anil Kumble, as we know him, is very systems-driven,” Bhogle expressed his surprise at Punjab’s tendency to frequently chop and change members from the playing XI. “Anil has been there, done that, he has been in the Mumbai Indians, he has been a magnificent captain for India, so that’s what surprises me a little bit.”

Thanks to the win, Hyderabad are now at third place, while Punjab are still languishing at the bottom.

England's World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan believes that "leaders without title" play an equally important part as the designated one if a team intends to travel in the right direction in its pursuit of greatness.

Morgan is one of the key figures in the Kolkata Knight Riders set-up under Dinesh Karthik's captaincy and he feels it has worked out well in the first three weeks of Indian Premier League.

So as a distinguished international captain, does he volunteer giving inputs to his skipper or wait for Karthik to approach him as a sounding board?

"I think it has worked really well so far. I think DK and Brendon McCullum lead extremely well within the team," Morgan told PTI in an exclusive interview.

"Within aspect of the rest of the players, we have a number of senior leaders that take on roles that don't have a title.

"And within the team, that plays a pivotal part because when other seniors players, apart from captain and coach and vice-captain, lead or take on directions or decisions, it gives absolute clarity for the rest of the team."
KKR is currently placed fourth on the points table with six points for their three wins.

"Embodying that moving forward is so powerful that it creates intangible things that great teams talk about. Feeling the moment, the sacrifices that you make, it's all worthwhile. So far we have made it work," Morgan put forth his view point eloquently.

For an Irishman who has established himself as a respected captain while leading one of the most ethnically diverse cricket teams to global glory, Morgan enjoys that multi-cultural fabric which an IPL dressing room brings with players from different background, different languages, converging to create lasting memories.

"I feel sport is always transient but the language you speak when you are playing that sport tends to stay with you.

"It's fascinating to watch guys talk about cricket in different languages in the change room and people who don't know that language tend to understand and get the gist of what they are trying to achieve."

Like many others, the 34-year-old Morgan also agreed that evolution of franchise cricket has brought players from different walks of life closer in a dressing room environment which promotes friendship.

"...Evolution of franchise cricket has made coming into a change room that has different culture with potentially a different language or two or three different languages a lot more easier to gel."

He loves the fact that the English cricket fraternity, which looked at IPL as an "after-thought" seven-eight years ago, has come to accept that it now has players who are the most sought-after in this format.

"I think compared to previous seasons, certainly (I) not having played in IPL for a number of seasons, difference between an England player coming in now and an England player coming seven-eight years ago is even more.

"Because now some of our players who play in that England shirt are sought after players. Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, these guys have genuine chances of becoming MVPs every year.

"That's the level of confidence that now an English player brings as opposed to before, when it was almost an after-thought because of the conflict within somewhere and English players being deterred to come in many ways.

"It's a completely different aspect, one that we love coming to town," 'Captain' Morgan said, setting the record straight.
With 2240 runs in 94 T20 Internationals, Morgan has been one of the fine end-game players in shorter formats, a skill that he consciously developed to fit into flexible batting orders.

"I think, over the years, that is something that I have always aspired to do and throughout your career, probably through young age from mid 20s, particularly in international cricket where it is very difficult, standard is always high and there is always a counter to everything that you are trying to do.

"The more you play, the less bad or common mistakes you are going to make. Experience is worth its weight in gold and I have made most of my experience in probably the last two and half to three years," he said.

Asked about his batting role in KKR line-up, Morgan said that it's "flexible", depending on conditions and opposition.

"I think middle-order is quite flexible at the moment, depending on what team we play and type of attack we come up against.

"Different batters are suited to different bowlers and DK and coach are very good at reading what's the right way to move forward in that regard. We have lot of options which are flexible."

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, with 36 Grand Slam titles between them, are both just two wins away from creating more tennis history at Roland Garros but standing in the way in Friday's semi-finals are Stefanos Tsitsipas and Diego Schwartzman.

Tsitsipas is the first Greek player to reach the last four in Paris while the diminutive Argentine has put sport in perspective this week with his moving story of how his great-grandfather survived the Holocaust.

Novak Djokovic (SRB x1) v Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE x5)

Head-to-head: Djokovic leads 3-2

-- Djokovic is chasing a second Roland Garros title and 18th Grand Slam to become the first man in half a century to win all four majors twice. It's such a rare achievement that only Don Budge and Rod Laver have managed it in the history of the sport.

The world number one has four titles in 2020, carved out from 36 wins and just one loss - his now infamous default at the US Open.

However, is the pressure beginning to tell? He dropped his first set of the tournament in his win over Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarter-finals and required treatment on his neck and shoulders.

"I had some neck and shoulder issues. I don't really want to get too much into it. I'm feeling okay," said the 33-year-old who was champion in Paris in 2016.

Djokovic is bidding to make the final for the fifth time and a 27th at the Slams.

Tsitsipas, 22 and playing in his second semi-final at the majors having also reached the last four at the 2019 Australian Open, has got stronger as the tournament has progressed.

After dropping the first two sets of his opener against Jaume Munar, he has swept the next 15.

Tsitsipas is bidding to become the youngest man to reach the Roland Garros final since 2008, when Nadal won the title and youngest to reach a Grand Slam championship match since the 2009 US Open, when Juan Martin del Potro won the title, 10 days short of his 21st birthday.

The Greek has only met Djokovic once on clay, a straight sets loss in the 2019 Madrid final.

"An opponent is an opponent. Doesn't matter if he is injured or not," said Tsitsipas of Djokovic.

-- Nadal, the 12-time champion, arrived in Paris virtually writing off his chances of equalling Roger Federer's all-time record of 20 Grand Slam titles.

However, the 34-year-old stands on the brink of a 13th Roland Garros final without dropping a set and having spent three and a half hours fewer than Schwartzman in getting to the semi-finals.

He remains cautious over his chances at a tournament being played in the cold and chill of autumn rather than its traditional May-June slot and after finishing his quarter-final against Jannik Sinner at 01:30 on Wednesday morning, he said it was "dangerous for the body with these very heavy conditions".

Nadal's late night on Tuesday was mostly caused by Schwartzman needing more than five hours to defeat US Open champion and third seed Dominic Thiem in five sets to reach his maiden semi-final at the majors.

By contrast, Nadal is in his 34th.

However, Schwartzman will be buoyed by defeating Nadal for the first time in 10 attempts on clay in Rome on the eve of Roland Garros.

Affectionately known as "El Peque" ("shorty"), 28-year-old Schwartzman is a mere 5ft 6in (1.68m) and the smallest player in the world's top 50.

"I was perfect today. I think I'm going to be perfect in semi-final," said Schwartzman, having won his first Grand Slam quarter-final after three previous failures.

Novak Djokovic (SRB x1) v Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE x5) Head-to-head: Djokovic leads 3-2 -- Djokovic is chasing a second Roland Garros title and 18th Grand Slam to become the first man in half a century to win all four majors twice. Djokovic, Nadal face new-look Roland Garros road blocks

Lionel Messi put his Barcelona troubles behind him to fire Argentina to an opening 1-0 victory over Ecuador in World Cup qualifying on Thursday.

The 33-year-old great has been in open conflict with his club but it had no detrimental effect on his form as his 13th minute penalty was the difference in a tight encounter.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner unsuccessfully tried to force his way out of the Catalan giants in the close season but he seemed much happier in the light blue and white jersey of his country.

And Argentina needed him to be on top form in a bid to avoid slipping up at home to Ecuador for the second successive time in an opening World Cup qualifier having lost 2-0 to the same opponents four years ago.

In the surreal atmosphere of an empty Bombonera -- the iconic stadium in Buenos Aires that is usually bouncing from the passion of fervent fans was left barren by coronavirus restrictions -- Argentina never looked in danger of another shock defeat.

The hosts predictably dominated possession but struggled to break down an organized and physical Ecuador outfit that proved a different proposition to the one dispatched 6-1 in a friendly a year ago.

The breakthrough came after a reckless challenge by Pervis Estupinan sent Lucas Ocampo sprawling in the box, with Messi stepping up to lash home his 71st international goal.

Ocampos was presented with a glorious chance to double the lead early in the second half but goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez dived full length to keep out his low shot from eight yards.

Rodrigo De Paul fired narrowly wide for the hosts with the last kick of the match.

In Montevideo, Luis Suarez scored a record extending 60th international goal for Uruguay before substitute Maxi Gomez bagged an injury time winner against Chile.

Atletico Madrid forward Suarez opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 39 minutes after Sebastian Vegas was harshly penalized for handball.

Inter Milan's Alexis Sanchez equalised with a low shot on 54 minutes but Gomez had the last word with a stunning half-volley from 20 yards to complete the 2-1 win.

It was honors even between Paraguay and Peru in Asuncion as Angel Romero for the hosts and Andre Carrillo both scored a brace.

Messi fires Argentina to WC qualifying win over Ecuador

Sofia Kenin defeated Petra Kvitova 6-4, 7-5 to reach the French Open final on Thursday and will attempt to capture a second Grand Slam of the year following her Australian Open triumph.

Fourth seed Kenin will meet 19-year-old Iga Swiatek of Poland in Saturday's title decider after denying two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova in her bid for a third major.

Swiatek became the first Polish woman in 81 years to reach the Roland Garros final as she demolished Argentine qualifier Nadia Podoroska 6-2, 6-1.

"I knew I had to be at my best. I am super happy and proud of myself," said Kenin.

The American faltered when serving for the match at 5-4 but broke Kvitova in the following game before closing out the victory over the Czech seventh seed.

Kenin, 21, will try to become the first woman to win two Slams in the same season since Angelique Kerber claimed the Australian and US Open titles in 2016.

"I have won in Australia and had really tough matches this week so that gives me confidence," said Kenin.

"I am going to enjoy this moment and then start to prepare for the final tomorrow."

Before this season, Kenin had never gone as far as the quarter-finals on clay. She lost her only match on the surface this year prior to Roland Garros, 6-0, 6-0 to Victoria Azarenka in Rome.

Kenin, who was taken to three sets in four of her five matches leading up to the semi-finals here, surged 4-1 ahead in the first set against Kvitova with a double break.

The Czech immediately clawed one back and created another opening to level on serve, but Kenin held steady and wrapped up the set when Kvitova smacked a backhand long.

Kenin again struck with a break in game five of the second set, fending off four break points in the ensuing game to keep Kvitova at arm's length.

Her frustration was clear as she blew her first chance to secure victory, but the tenacious Kenin earned a second opportunity and sealed her spot in the final with a gritty service hold.

The championship match will be the first at the majors to feature two players aged 21 or under since Maria Sharapova beat fellow 20-year-old Ana Ivanovic at the 2008 Australian Open.

- Great Polish hope -

The 54th-ranked Swiatek has yet to drop a set at the tournament, conceding just 23 games through six matches.

The last woman to capture the French Open title without losing a set was Justine Henin in 2007.

"It seems unreal," said Swiatek. "I never thought at the start I would play so good here but I always knew that if I was going to be in the final of a Grand Slam it would be at the French Open."

"It's amazing for me," she added. "It's a dream come true."

Swiatek has matched the run of compatriot Jadwiga Jedrzejowska who finished runner-up at Roland Garros in 1939.

She is only the second Polish woman to reach a Grand Slam final in the Open era after Agnieszka Radwanska at Wimbledon in 2012.

Swiatek becomes the seventh unseeded women's finalist at Roland Garros. Of the previous six, only Jelena Ostapenko in 2017 went on to lift the trophy.

"Basically I wanted to play this match as if it was the first round. I didn't want to think I was in the semi-finals because it would stress me," said Swiatek.

She has not faced Kenin at tour level but defeated her in straight sets in the girls' singles at Roland Garros in 2016.

"I will need to be on a different level, the higher level, even though I'm winning easily right now," added Swiatek.

"Really I have no expectations. I don't care if I'm going to lose or win. I'm going to just play my best tennis."

World number 131 Podoroska was the lowest-ranked semi-finalist in Paris in the modern era, and the first women's qualifier to reach the last four of the French Open.

She will rise to a career a best of 48th after the tournament, having arrived without a single Grand Slam main draw win to her name.

"Of course my ranking is going to change, and the tournaments that I'm going to play. But not my life," said Podoroska.

"I'm going to be the same person. I'm going to try to improve my game, like I've been doing the past few years."

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday defeated Kings XI Punjab by 69 runs at the Sheikh Abu Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi as SRH registered their third win in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. The misery for Kings XI Punjab continued as they suffered a crushing defeat, their fifth in six matches so far in the T20 tournament.

Having opted to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad were off to a sensational start as openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow stitched a 160-run partnership. While Warner scored 52 off 40, Bairstow smashed 97 off 55 deliveries to give SRH a dream start.

However, things became shaky for SRH as they lost Abdul Samad (8), Manish Pandey (1) and Priyam Garg (0) before Kane Williamson (20* off 10) and Abhishek Sharma (12 off 6) hit a few lusty blows to drag the team to 201-run mark in 20 overs.

Spanish tennis star Pablo Carreno Busta on Wednesday accused Novak Djokovic of poor sportsmanship during their Roland Garros quarter-final on Wednesday as he felt the world number one didn’t have any genuine health concerns despite battling injury problems.

Djokovic, one of the favourites for the French Open, had his neck taped during the match on Court Philippe Chatrier with restricted movement during the opening set against the world number 18. The Serb further asked his trainer on court to resolve some issues with his upper left arm.

However, the Serbian recovered well and qualified for the semi-finals with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 win and later added that he had to deal with some physical issues during the early part of his encounter against Busta.

“Each time he is in trouble he usually does it, that means to say that he was in trouble, that he wasn’t comfortable and that I was playing at a high level and was causing him to doubt himself,” Carreno Busta told reporters in Spanish.

“Every time a match gets complicated he asks for medical assistance. He has been doing this for a long time. I already knew that. I knew it would happen at the U.S. Open, I knew it would happen here and I know it will keep on happening.

“I don’t know if it’s something chronic in his shoulder or just mental, but he didn’t put me off.”

Djokovic also banged his racket against his thigh in frustration following the opening set, the first he lost at this year’s claycourt Grand Slam.

“I don’t know, maybe it’s the pressure or something that he needs to do it. But he continues playing normal, no? I don’t know if he’s (in) pain really or he has mental (issues). Ask him,” Carreno Busta said in English.

Kolkata Knight Riders plotted a stunning comeback against Chennai Super Kings to win the match by 10 runs in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik saved the likes of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy for the latter half of the chase, a tactic which proved to be a masterclass on a slowish pitch and longer boundaries.

While Narine bagged the wicket of half-centurion Shane Watson, Chakravarthy got the priced wicket of MS Dhoni, whom the mystery spinner had been watching from the Chepauk Stadium stands for many years. “Mahi bhai was going really well, I just thought that if I can land the ball on a good length, I might take his wicket, thankfully I was able to execute it really well. After the match, I took a picture with Dhoni sir as well,” Chakravarthy told Rahul Tripathi in a video posted on iplt20.com.

IPL 2020, SRH vs KXIP Preview: Strugglers look to find form in Dubai

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming on Wednesday hit out at CSK’s batting performance against Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday as the three-time IPL winners lost by 10 runs despite being in control of the chase during the half-way mark of the second innings.

"The performances like today, with the experience we've got, we should put it away," CSK coach Stephen Fleming said in the post-match presser on Wednesday.

"Ideally, you want one batsman to bat through. If you give an opening to an IPL team, they've got quality players to take it. Today with Narine holding overs back, it made it very difficult in the end.

"You are looking at players going on and making 75 or more and continue that partnership for five more overs, the game would have been a lot more different. KKR hung in there and put pressure on us. We couldn't accelerate in the end. We are disappointed that we let it slip," Fleming added.

Chasing 168, Super Kings were running away with the match at 101 for 2 in 13 overs. However, with just 57 runs required off 42 balls, the batters simply brought down the current run-rate with the likes of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy troubling the batters. CSK were ultimately restricted to 157/5 as they managed just 20 runs from 10th to 15th over.

"We've got a lot of batsmen so the balance is good with six bowlers. Bravo is batting at No. 8 and we are struggling to use him so we don't think an extra batsman is going to help," he said.

"Sam Curran was also very good. Our challenge is that our two allrounders are going very well, Watson and Faf are doing well, so it's very hard to fit in an international bowler in that group. We are relying heaving on our Indian bowlers. We've got a pretty good balance.”

IPL 2020: 'We let it slip' - Stephen Fleming hits out at CSK's batting performance against KKR

Kolkata turned things around to beat Chennai by 10 runs in Match 21 of IPL 2020, at Abu Dhabi. At one point, Chennai needed 78 in the last 10 overs with 9 wickets in hand, but they managed only 20 off the next 5 overs despite losing only 2 wickets, and eventually finished short.

Discussing the outcome in the My11 Circle Cricbuzz Live, Simon Doull summarised that Chennai “had snatched defeat from the jaws of victory;” Gaurav Kapur called the effort a “botched chase;” and Joy Bhattacharjya described the approach as “un-Chennai-like”.

Kedar Jadhav came out when Chennai needed to score 39 in 21 balls, and was neither able to get the ball away for boundaries nor rotate the strike, taking 12 balls for an unbeaten 7. Bhattacharjya called Jadhav’s outing a “shocker of an innings”, expressing his surprise over Chennai investing INR 78 million in him.

Doull also lauded Kolkata’s approach while fielding: “Their strategy on the field almost seemed to pay off completely. They left [Sunil] Narine, they held him back”. Bhattacharjya questioned the decision to hold Narine back, given his “brilliant track record” against Chennai opener Shane Watson, while lauding Varun Chakravarthy’s courage to toss the ball up to MS Dhoni even in the 17th over. Coming on to bowl as late as in the 12th over, Narine finished with 4-0-31-1. Chakravarthy had 4-0-28-1.

Doull also had high praise for Kolkata’s use of Andre Russell: “Save him for the back end, just one or two overs … when the side’s under pressure, and he has done the job again”. Kapur mentioned Russell’s ability to shock batsmen with 140-kmph bumpers.

Earlier in the day, Kolkata were bowled out for 167, with only Rahul Tripathi (81 in 51 balls) scoring more than 17(Second highest score). Kapur called him the “lynchpin” of the Kolkata effort, the only one for Kolkata “who checked in with the bat”. However, Doull pointed out that they should have got about 185, given their rollicking start. After racing to 70/1 in 8 overs, they got only 97 in the last 12.

Bhattacharjya recommended Kolkata opened with Tripathi instead of Narine. He mentioned that Tripathi might not be as successful against genuinely quick bowlers like Kagiso Rabada or Jasprit Bumrah, but then, as he pointed, the same holds for Narine, Kolkata’s other option at the top.

Kapur mentioned Russell’s ability to shock batsmen with 140-kmph bumpers. Earlier in the day, Kolkata were bowled out for 167, with only Rahul Tripathi (81 in 51 balls) scoring more than 17(Second highest score). IPL 2020: Chennai snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, says Simon Doull

Stefanos Tsitsipas insists he's "chasing something spectacular" at Roland Garros as he attempts to become the first Greek to win a Grand Slam title.

The 22-year-old reached the semi-finals in Paris for the first time on Wednesday with an impressive 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 win over Russia's Andrey Rublev.

Tsitsipas made his big breakthrough at the 2019 Australian Open where he defeated Roger Federer on his way to a maiden last-four spot at the Slams.

However, he hasn't kicked on at the majors with a last-16 exit in Paris last season followed by first round defeats at Wimbledon and the US Open.

He was a surprise champion at the ATP Finals in London at the back end of 2019 before third round exits in Melbourne and New York when he returned to 2020 duty at the Slams.

"I'm chasing something spectacular," said world number six Tsitsipas, the youngest player in the top 10.

Now with two runs to the last four at the Slams, Tsitsipas believes his time is near despite the stranglehold over the majors exercised by Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

"I would like to tell you that I'm not a NextGen player any more. I'm a proper adult," he said.

"Second of all, for sure it's going to come at some point. The big three have been there for a long time. I don't feel like it's going to be the same in five, six years' time, I believe."

Since dropping the first two sets of his opener in Paris against Spain's Jaume Munar, the Greek has been on an impressive run, winning 15 sets in succession.

Should he go all the way and lift the title on Sunday, he would be the youngest men's Grand Slam champion since Juan Martin del Potro at the US Open in 2009.

However, to get there, he will probably have to defeat world number one Djokovic in the semi-final and 12-time champion Nadal in the final.
