A shooting incident triggered panic in the&nbsp;district court complex of the Indian Union Territory of Chandigarh on Saturday&nbsp;(Aug 3) afternoon. As per reports,&nbsp;Malwinder Singh, a suspended assistant inspector general (AIG) of Punjab Police, opened fire on his son-in-law at the mediation centre and killed him on the spot.

The victim was&nbsp;identified as&nbsp;Harprit Singh, an Indian Civil Account Services (ICAS) officer. The suspended cop fired three shots from point-blank range at his son-in-law, with one bullet piercing his chest.

The victim had some marital disputes running with&nbsp;Malwinder Singh's daughter, Amitoj Kaur. Police said this was the fourth mediation session between the two families.

At the time of the incident at 2 pm IST, both families were present inside the centre. During the session,&nbsp;Malwinder Singh walked towards the washroom and sought&nbsp;Harprit's help in finding the way. But, seconds later, Malwinder opened fire on him.

Meanwhile,&nbsp;Malwinder was immediately detained by Chandigarh police and the weapon that he used to kill his son-in-law was also recovered.

“Divorce proceedings were going on between the two parties since 2023. Both sides have previous litigation against each other in Mohali district. The matter was referred to the mediation centre, where the proceedings were being carried out by the court-appointed mediator. Harprit Singh along with his parents was present, while Dr Amitoj, who is in Canada, was represented by father Malwinder Singh,” police said in a statement.

&nbsp;A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot by a police officer in upstate New York, United States after the teen was armed with what the officials said appeared to be a gun.&nbsp;

The video of the incident released on Saturday (Jun 29) shows the boy being tackled to the ground after he ran from officers and pointed what the police later determined was a replica handgun at them.

<h2>What we know about the incident</h2>

The police said that the teen was killed sometime after 10:00 pm (local time) on Friday (Jun 28) in the New York city of Utica when three officers stopped two young people in connection with an armed robbery investigation.&nbsp;

While the officers were questioning the teens, one of them fled on foot, said the Utica police in a news release. The police said that the youth, both 13, matched the descriptions of the robbery suspects and were spotted in the same area&nbsp;around the same time the next day.&nbsp;

Subsequently, the teen later identified as Nyah Mway, 13, ran and the police spotted what “appeared to be a handgun,” the Utica Police Chief Mark Williams said in a press conference on &nbsp;Saturday morning.&nbsp;

“A Utica police officer ultimately discharged his firearm once, striking the male, during a ground struggle,” he added. He was frequently interrupted by the outraged community members.

According to Williams, Mway was given immediate first aid and taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.&nbsp;

It wasn’t until after the shooting that the officers recovered a pellet gun resembling a Glock 17 handgun, said the Utica police chief.&nbsp;

The police officer who allegedly shot and killed Mway was identified as Patrick Husnay.&nbsp;

The New York attorney general’s office said that they have opened an investigation into the shooting. Utica police said it is conducting its own investigation.&nbsp;

All three officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave.

<h2>Incident sparks outrage</h2>

Hundreds of people attended a community vigil for the teen, reported ABC News. Lay Htoo, Mway’s uncle, told the media outlet that he and his family were depressed and saddened.

Mway, as per media reports, was a refugee born in Myanmar and a member of the Karen ethnic minority.

The victim was immediately taken to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences where the doctors declared him dead. The victim was later identified as a man named Sandeep who was reportedly from the Indian state of West Bengal.&nbsp;

“On being refused, a heated argument ensued between them and the bar staff. During the argument, one of them brought in a rifle and shot at the DJ in his chest from point-blank range,” Chandan Sinha, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ranchi, speaking about the incident.&nbsp;

<h2>Alleged shooter arrested</h2>

Ranchi Deputy Superintendent of Police and the local police station in charge had visited the scene of the crime on Monday morning to examine the CCTV footage and identify the shooter and his accomplices.&nbsp;

The police also questioned the bar employees as a part of the investigation. “Yesterday at around 10:30 pm (local time), a scuffle broke out between two groups. We immediately informed police and one person was arrested by police. After shutting the bar, we went back home but one of our staff, DJ Sandeep stayed here,” bar operator Vishal Singh told news agency ANI.&nbsp;

“Later I got a call that one of our staff had been shot… We hope that the accused will be arrested soon…,” said the bar operator.&nbsp;

DSP Pramod Mishra said that the suspected shooter has been identified. “He has a previous criminal record and has been to jail earlier as well. We are investigating the matter. He is a suspicious person. The deceased is a resident of Chapra (West Bengal).”

Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kumar Sinha told news agency PTI that the accused was arrested from the Indian city of Gaya in Bihar.&nbsp;

“He will be brought to Ranchi and a detailed interrogation will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of the firing,” Sinha added.&nbsp;

Sinha also also&nbsp;said that the accused,&nbsp;identified as Abhishek Singh, a resident of Ranchi,&nbsp;was in an alcoholic state when the crime was carried out.

The statement read, "The recent incident of firing by two unidentified persons on a motorcycle at Galaxy apartment the residence of the Salim Khan family is very disturbing and unnerving. Our family has been taken aback by this shocking incident that took place."

"Unfortunately some people claiming to be close to our family and pretending to be the spokesperson have been making loose statements to the media saying it's all a publicity stunt and the family remains unaffected, which is not true and these views should not be taken seriously," the statement continued.

Before signing off, Arbaaz clarified that no member of the Salim Khan family has made any statement regarding this incident to the media and that all reports claiming such are false. At the time, the family is cooperating with the police in the investigation.

A disgruntled former employee fatally shot the head of a Greek shipping company and two others before killing himself at the firm’s office in the capital city of Athens on Monday (Feb 12), said a police spokesperson.&nbsp;

<h2>What we know about the incident&nbsp;</h2>

Police, fire engines and ambulances were stationed outside the offices of European Navigation in Glyfada, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

The alleged shooter broke into the building in Glyfada, a suburb in South Athens, which reportedly belonged to a shipping company European Navigation.

Two men and a woman were killed before the shooter barricaded himself inside, reported the news agency AFP citing sources.

Police spokeswoman Konstantina Dimoglidou said the owner of European Product Carriers was among those killed. The gunman, the 76-year-old former employee was later found dead in another area of the building, said the police.&nbsp;

The alleged shooter “was the weapon of his unlawful act and he had probably shot himself,” said Dimoglidou. The police also found two women, unharmed, who had been locked in a bathroom during the attack.&nbsp;

“We were at our desks working, we heard shots,” an employee who did not identify herself told the Proto Thema. She also said that the gunman had told employees to leave.

The gunman, according to Greek media reports, was an Egyptian national and had been terminated from his position at the firm.&nbsp;

She added, "He had his assault weapon next to him and appears to have shot himself in the head."&nbsp;

The officials in Greece have cordoned off the area and said they were investigating the incident.

Shootings, outside of gang-related activity, are rare in Greece due to the country’s strict laws over gun possession.

<h2>What happened in downtown Austin?</h2>

The officers were responding to an incident in a bar on East 6th Street in the heart of the Texas capital shortly before midnight, said the Austin Police Department (APD) after they received a report about a person trying to enter the establishment with a gun, in violation of the Texas Penal Code.&nbsp;

An employee identified the suspect after the officers arrived and they approached him, said Austin Police Department Interim Chief Robin Henderson at a press briefing, on early Sunday (Dec 17).&nbsp;

The suspect pulled out a gun and pointed it at the responding officers as well as bystanders, he added. Subsequently, the three officers fired their weapons at the suspect, who was hit multiple times, and was later pronounced deceased, said the APD interim chief.&nbsp;

According to the police, three others were injured and taken to the hospital. One person suffered critical injuries, said Henderson, adding that others sustained injuries which were not considered life-threatening.&nbsp;

<h2>Several injured after panic at Tampa Premium Outlets</h2>

Several people were injured due to the chaos which broke out at the Tampa Premium Outlets after the fire alarm was triggered amid fears of an active shooter, on Sunday (Dec 17), reported the local media.&nbsp;

The fire alarm was activated around 4:30 pm (local time) prompting nearby residents to get alerts about a possible shooting in the area, said the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. Subsequently, officers arrived at the scene but found no evidence of shooting.

The police were called around 4:45 pm (local time) on Monday after reports of a man firing a flare gun from inside the house located on the 800 block of North Burlington Street. It was after failed attempts to establish contact with Yoo, that police obtained a search warrant.&nbsp;

Around 8:30 pm (local time), as officers were attempting to execute the search warrant and tried to enter the home, multiple gunshots were fired from within the house, said Penn. Subsequently, the house exploded, the police chief added.&nbsp;

The officers in the vicinity escaped with minor injuries but no one was taken to the hospital. The police&nbsp;also evacuated nearby residents around 7:00 pm (local time), including people who lived in the other part of the duplex.&nbsp;

The fire was brought under control around 10:30 pm (local time), according to media reports. Nate Hiner, a spokesperson for the Arlington Fire Department, said that the fire officials do not know the cause of the explosion.&nbsp;

<h2>Yet to identify human remains</h2>

Penn said that investigators have not yet identified human remains found inside the home but “all factors point to that it’s this individual,” referring to Yoo.&nbsp;

Arlington County police spokesperson Ashley Savage said it was unclear what happened to the suspect who was inside the building during the blast. She also said that the police did not find any evidence that others were in the duplex but could not rule out the possibility.

According to the Associated Press, the 56-year-old also filed four lawsuits between 2018 and 2022 against his ex-wife, younger sister, a moving company, and the New York Supreme Court. All the cases were dismissed.&nbsp;

What do we know about the incident?

The incident took place on a street near the University of Vermont where the suspect, who was described as a “white man with a handgun,” without saying anything “discharged at least four rounds from the pistol" fled on foot, said the police.&nbsp;

But according to a pro-Palestinian NGO, the suspect was not silent.

The assailant opened fire after he began to shout at and harass the three men who were speaking Arabic, said the Institute for Middle East Understanding.

The police confirmed that two of the young men were wearing keffiyehs – the traditional black and white Palestinian scarf – when they were attacked.&nbsp;

The incident comes amid a rise in anti-Islamic and antisemitic incidents across the US since the beginning of the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza.&nbsp;

“In this charged moment, no one can look at this incident and not suspect that it may have been a hate-motivated crime,” said Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad, in a statement.&nbsp;

The local police chief said that they are already in touch with “federal investigatory and prosecutorial partners” to prepare for the next steps if the incident is proven to be a hate-motivated crime.&nbsp;

<h2>About the victims</h2>

The victims were identified by their families as Hisham Awartani, a student at Brown University in Rhode Island; Kinnan Abdel Hamid, a student at Haverford College in Pennsylvania; and Tahseen Ahmed, who attends Trinity College in Connecticut.&nbsp;

All three were graduates of the Ramallah Friends School, a private Quaker school in the occupied West Bank and were now attending universities in&nbsp; northeast US.&nbsp;

Two of the students were visiting the home of the third student’s family in Burlington for Thanksgiving.

“Two are stable, while one has sustained much more serious injuries,” said the police speaking about their condition.&nbsp;

The victims’ families issued a joint statement urging the authorities to investigate the shooting as a hate crime.&nbsp;

“As parents we are devastated by the horrific news that our children were targeted and shot,” said the victims’ families. It added, “We call on law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation.”

The advocacy group American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee also called for the incident to be investigated as a hate crime.&nbsp;

“The surge in anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian sentiment we are experiencing is unprecedented, and this is another example of that hate turning violent,” said ADC National Executive Director Abed Ayoub.&nbsp;

The White House said President Joe Biden had been briefed on the shooting.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders called the attack “shocking and deeply upsetting,” adding, “hate has no place here, or anywhere.”

The suspect identified as 68-year-old Craig Sumner Elliott was jogging in the afternoon of September 28 with his two dogs in Garden Grove, California when he encountered Antonio García Avalos, 40, who was sleeping in the middle of the sidewalk, said the prosecutors in Orange county.&nbsp;

Elliot who had a pushcart with him used it to nudge Avalos in an attempt to wake him and get around him, as per the news release. Subsequently, the 40-year-old began yelling at the 68-year-old to leave him alone.&nbsp;

Elliot who had supposedly been filming the entire encounter, the video of which was released by the authorities, shows Avalos standing up and throwing a shoe at Elliot, who then ducks to avoid the shoe.

Subsequently, according to the police statement, the video shows Elliot shooting Avalos three times. The 40-year-old later succumbed to his injuries.&nbsp;

“This is a tragic set of circumstances that unfolded in the worst possible way over a minor inconvenience of a blocked sidewalk, and a man is dead as a result,” the Orange County district attorney, Todd Spitzer, said in a news release.

He added, “This case is a stark reminder that taking the law into your own hands is never the answer and that there are consequences for your actions.”

"Thank God I wasn't hit, but they killed my brother and my friend," he added.

He refuted any suggestion that they were attempting to flee upon being detected by the coastguard and instead asserted that his brother had tried to talk to the authorities before the fatal shots were fired.

"They arrested my other friend. Five bullets hit my brother and my friend. My other friend was hit by a bullet."

Mohamed was picked up by the Moroccan navy and taken back to Saidia marina.

In a shocking incident in the city of Indore in&nbsp;central India's state of Madhya Pradesh, at least two people were killed and six others, including a pregnant woman, were injured when a man who works as a bank security guard opened fire on them following an argument over their pet dogs, said the local police, on Friday (August 18).&nbsp;

The incident took place on Thursday night (August 17) at around 11:00 pm (local time) after the accused, identified as Rajpal Singh Rajawat, who works as a security guard at a bank, opened fire on eight people – killing two and injuring six – after his dog started barking at their neighbour’s dog, said the police.&nbsp;

“Rajpal Singh Rajawat posted as a security guard at a local branch of Bank of Baroda, opened fire with his licensed gun in a colony located under Khajrana police station limits following an argument over pet dogs,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amrendra Singh, as quoted by news agency PTI.&nbsp;

The altercation took place in the city’s Krishna Bagh Colony when Rajawat took his dog for a walk and his dog started barking at the neighbour’s pet dog, said Singh. “This triggered an argument between Rajawat and Amcha’s family,” he added.&nbsp;

While the charge carries a maximum statutory sentence of five years in prison, due to her plea agreement, the prosecutors said they will not seek higher than six months. However, Judge Chris Papile has said that he reserves the right to sentence outside that recommendation at her sentencing, which is scheduled for October 27.&nbsp;

“I stole it because I needed to shoot my teacher,” the prosecutor said the boy told investigators. However, Newport News Commonwealth’s Attorney Howard Gwynn has said that the six-year-old will not be criminally charged.&nbsp;

Mizan said that Rashidi had confessed to having collaborated with IS to carry out the shooting in October. While the nationalities of the two men were not revealed, officials had previously said the attack involved people from other countries including neighbouring Afghanistan.&nbsp;

One Israeli man was said to be seriously injured and his two daughters were reported lightly hurt after a shooting attack in the occupied West Bank on Sunday (July 16) morning, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli emergency services. The latest incident is a&nbsp;rare occurrence in the Israel-occupied southern West Bank which is much calmer than the north. &nbsp;

<h2>What do we know about the incident?</h2>

According to the Israeli military, the trio, which also included two girls, aged 9 and 14, was injured after being shot at by a moving vehicle at the Tekoa Junction, south of Bethlehem, which is some 16 kilometres away from south of Jerusalem.&nbsp;

The 35-year-old man was taken to the Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, said Magen David Adom Israeli ambulance service, adding that he is in serious but stable condition after sustaining gunshot wounds. Meanwhile, the girls were reported mildly injured. All three have been taken to the hospital in Jerusalem.&nbsp;

The victims were later identified as Elroi Kapach and his two daughters, Rachel and Avigayil, according to Israeli media reports. The trio reportedly live in the settlement of Nokdim.&nbsp;

In a statement obtained by The Jerusalem Post, the local mayor Shlomo Ne’eman, said “We’re talking about an area where there hasn’t been a serious terrorist attack for years.”&nbsp;

He added, “We all wish a speedy recovery to the person wounded, and embrace the security forces who will soon catch the despicable terrorists, and settle the score with them. We will not give in to the terrorists who seek to spill Jewish blood and throw us out of our country.”&nbsp;

<h2>Gunman arrested</h2>

According to the IDF, the Palestinian gunman, or gunmen, opened fire from a passing vehicle at the victims’ car. The&nbsp;Palestinian gunman who had fled the scene was&nbsp;captured hours later by the Israeli forces. 
 
This arrest took place&nbsp;after the Israeli military&nbsp;raided Bethlehem&nbsp;and detained&nbsp;the suspected gunman as well as&nbsp;his car&nbsp;which contained an M16 assault rifle. Additionally,&nbsp;two other suspects were also apprehended.&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to local media reports, at least 15&nbsp;Palestinians were injured in the raid but reportedly sustained&nbsp;minor injuries.&nbsp;

<h2>Rise in violence</h2>

The incident is one of many reported recently amid a rise of tension&nbsp;and violence between Israel and the Palestinians in the West Bank which is said to have intensified early last year when Israeli forces began near-nightly raids into Palestinian areas.&nbsp;

Earlier this month, Israel conducted its biggest military raid in 20 years in the occupied West Bank’s Jenin which resulted in the death of 12 people, including at least five Palestinian fighters, as well as one Israeli soldier.&nbsp;

The recent shooting also comes days after an alleged Palestinian assailant opened fire and threw a grenade at Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank. The man, who was <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/palestinian-who-opened-fire-threw-grenade-at-israeli-forces-shot-dead-614053">“neutralised”</a> by the Israeli forces, was later identified as 33-year-old Bilal Qadah by the Palestinian health ministry.&nbsp;

The wave of violence commenced around 12:40 AM when a 34-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg in the Throggs Neck area of The Bronx. Despite his injuries, he managed to reach Westchester Square Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Approximately 20 minutes later, a 36-year-old man was shot in the leg and buttocks in the same neighbourhood. Initially, he sought medical assistance at Montefiore Medical Center but was subsequently transferred to Jacobi Medical Center, also in stable condition, New York Post reported.&nbsp;

She was transported to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where her condition was reported as stable. The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.
