As per a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, some IPL teams recently held informal talks with the players through their respective management to find out how much will it take to convince the players to ditch their Cricket Australia (CA) contracts and agree to be a T20 globe-trotter with their IPL franchise.

If a player agrees to sign a year-long deal with an IPL franchise, it will mean he will have to commit to playing for all teams under the franchise's umbrella in different T20 leagues around the world and reduce his playing time for the national team. A top Australian player has reportedly been offered around AUS$5 million (Approx 3.2 million USD) to sign a year-long contract by an IPL team.

The sum of AUS$5 million is more than double what Australia's Test captain Pat Cummins is paid for his Test and ODI contracts combined by Cricket Australia. As per the report, the likes of Cummins, David Warner and Glenn Maxwell among others can be highly sought-after by the IPL teams.

Cricket Australia has not named a deputy to Cummins in ODIs despite the fast bowler recently stating that he would love to captain the team in the fifty-over format but on the condition that he is not expected to play every single game. Thus, head coach Mahela Jayawardene has broken his silence on MI's indifferent start to the ongoing season.&nbsp;

“I think we knew that they have a strategy where they bowl their spinners at the backend as well. So we needed to make sure that we had guys to take them on. Suryakumar Yadav was one of them. But initially it was a tough wicket. There was steep bounce, and there was little bit in it. We felt that we got stuck a little bit, and we were behind, and needed a par course," Jayawardene said at the post-match press conference.

"That was the plan in the 13th over, and I thought with the couple of big overs at the end, we got that par score, and we were in the game for pretty much all the way. In the past few games we’ve not ruthless enough to close games off," he added.

Reflecting on MI's journey ahead after a tough start, Jayawardene further opined, "It’s always tough when you have a start like this, but we need to look at the positives. We’ve been playing some really good cricket, but we’re not closing games off. All three games we were in it, but we’re not able to finish it off. These are concerns, especially with the ball that we’re not executing at the back-end under pressure.. some of the execution has been poor. We need to brush up on that."

“It’s a long tournament, three games, yeah it is tough but we need to make sure that we get a win and get into those habits. Anything can happen with 10 teams. There are a lot of teams that’s gonna beat each other so we have to make sure we’re in it midway through the season," he concluded.

International captains Babar Azam from Pakistan, Kraigg Brathwaite of West Indies and Australia's Pat Cummins have been shortlisted for the ICC men's Player of the Month award following their outstanding individual performances in March.

In women's category, England bowler Sophie Ecclestone, and run-machines Rachael Haynes (Australia) and Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa) are in the running to scoop the award following stellar performances in the recently concluded ODI World Cup.

The winners will be announced next week.

In a sensational collapse after tea on Day 3, Pakistan lost seven wickets for 41 runs&nbsp;(the last four wickets without adding a run)&nbsp;as Cummins finished with 5-56 and Starc took 4-36.

Australia had stretched its lead to 134 runs by reaching 11-0 by stumps with Usman Khawaja not out on 7 and David Warner unbeaten on 4.

In-form opening batter Abdullah Shafique (81) and veteran Azhar Ali (78) had carried Pakistan to 170-1 and denied Australia a breakthrough in the first session after resuming on 90-1 before the visitors took control of the series-deciding test.

Nathan Lyon (1-95), who dried up the runs with his marathon spell of 30 overs on Day 3, provided the opening when he found the outside edge of Shafique's bat after lunch to end a patient 150-run stand.

Shafique's prolific run in the series has seen the opening batter score his maiden test hundred in the drawn first test in Rawalpindi before his patient 96 in Karachi led Pakistan to force a draw.

Shafique defied Australia with yet another patient knock off 228 balls which featured 11 fours before Lyon struck in the fifth over after lunch and successfully overturned umpire Aleem Dar's not out decision through a television referral.

With the second new ball only seven overs old, Cummins took a spectacular return catch to dismiss Azhar in his homecoming test match as Pakistan was restricted at 227-3 at tea.

Pakistan was 268 all out against the persistent pace of Australia captain Pat Cummins and impeccable reverse swing of Mitchell Starc to concede a massive 123-run lead on Wednesday in the third and final test. In a sensational collapse after tea on Day 3, Pakistan lost seven wickets for 41 runs (the last four wickets without adding a run) as Cummins finished with 5-56 and Starc took 4-36. Australia had stretched its lead to 134 runs by reaching 11-0 by stumps with Usman Khawaja not out on 7 and David Warner unbeaten on 4. In-form opening batter Abdullah Shafique (81) and veteran Azhar Ali (78) had carried Pakistan to 170-1 and denied Australia a breakthrough in the first session after resuming on 90-1 before the visitors took control of the series-deciding test. But Pakistan folded against Cummins and Starc after tea, losing the last six wickets off 40 balls. KKR are set to open their IPL 2022 campaign against defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 26.

"Well, it is a concern, you want your best players available, but international cricket should be the para-limit. Every cricketer should want to play international cricket for their countries so they have commitments that way. I think Cummins and Finch will miss the first five games but they will be cricket fit and cricket ready," Hussey said in a virtual presser.

"So, once they hit the ground running, both quality people and they will fit into the dressing room perfectly well," he added.

Australia's ongoing tour of Pakitan is set to end on April 05 but both Cummins and Finch will have to serve mandatory three-day isolation in which case they are likely to miss KKR's fifth game of the season which is scheduled to take place on April 10. In the duo's absence, it remains to be seen what combination will KKR opt for at the start of the season.

While the series decider's result will be out in a few days' time, former Aussie pacer-turned-commentator Michael Kasprowicz has given his verdict for the Lahore pitch, at least if his first opinion is taken into consideration.
