Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, alongside a high-level delegation, will be traveling to China next week to meet President Xi Jinping. The visit announcement comes days after Xi secured a third term for himself as the party general secretary after the end of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Congress.&nbsp;

The visit was confirmed by Pakistan's foreign ministry which released a statement and said it was Premier&nbsp;Li Keqiang that extended the invitation. Foreign Minister&nbsp;Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also be travelling with Sharif.&nbsp;

"Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will visit China on 1-2 November at the head of a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The visit comes in the backdrop of China and Pakistan agreeing&nbsp;to start three new corridors in November, in addition to the multiple billion dollars China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), to strengthen bilateral ties, according to multiple reports.

It is expected that a formal launch will be announced during the trip.&nbsp;

"The visit is also expected to advance the wide-ranging bilateral cooperation agenda with the conclusion of a number of MoUs/Agreements in diverse areas, and consolidate the momentum of CPEC cooperation in the wake of the 11th meeting of the CPEC Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) on 27th October 2022," read the statement further.&nbsp;

As reported by WION,&nbsp;the CPEC is a multi-billion dollar development project, with a planned network of roads, railways and energy projects linking China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region with Pakistan's strategic Gwadar Port on the Arabian Sea.

Notably, this will be Sharif's first visit to China since assuming the chair earlier this year. Previously Sharif and Xi met each other in Uzbekistan on the sidelines of the SCO summit last month.&nbsp;Sharif will also become one of the first leaders to visit China after the CPC Congress.&nbsp;

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Thursday that he is ready to engage with India provided the other side shows sincerity and purpose.

On the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, Sharif said that the engagement between the two countries is important for the peace and prosperity of the region but remained silent on the issue of terrorism in the recent past.

“We are willing to engage with India for the sake of peace, prosperity, and progress of the region. We cannot afford to have more poverty and unemployment on both sides of the border. Absolutely willing to have serious dialogue and discussions with our counterpart provided they show the sincerity of purpose,” Sharif said when asked about possible talks with India.

Sharif further said that the talks will be possible if both countries can keep aside issues that have caused rifts in the past and added that he is “committed to move forward”.

“If we don’t act speedily, then history will not forgive us. We can talk if they show that they are ready to discuss issues which have kept us at a distance over decades. This has to come to a stop and I am absolutely committed and ready to move forward.”

Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif says 'want talks with India', but remains silent on terrorism

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and apart from his Kashmir rhetoric, he drew the attention of the global body to the climate disaster his country is facing.

Stating that&nbsp;climate disasters will not remain confined to his country, Sharif took a subtle dig at western nations who blame developing nations for global warming.

"What happened in Pakistan will not stay in Pakistan. Pakistan has never seen a more stark and devastating example of the impact of global warming. Life in Pakistan has changed forever," said Sharif.

"Why are my people paying such high price of global warming through no fault of their own? Nature has unleashed her fury on Pakistan without looking at our carbon footprint, which is next to nothing," he added.

Sharif further lamented about the people who had died in the devastating floods.&nbsp;

“For 40 days and 40 nights, biblical flood poured on us. Even today, huge swathes of the country are still under water. 33 million people including women, and children are at high risk of health hazards. More than 1,500 of my people, including 400 children, have gone from the world. Far more are in peril," said the PM.

Before shifting to his anti-India tirade, Sharif signed off on his climate change speech by&nbsp;urging global action.

"It is high time we took a pause from the preoccupations of the 20th century to return to the challenges of the 21st. The entire definition of national security has changed today, and unless the leaders of the world come together to act now behind minimum agreed agenda, there will be no earth to fight wars over. Nature will be fighting back, and for that humanity is no match," said Sharif.

Pakistan demands reparations

He also urged the organisation to "lead the diplomatic endeavours towards facilitating a peaceful and lasting solution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people".

The two dignitaries also discussed the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian clashes and the violence that took place at the Al-Aqsa mosque.

There were also discussions about combating global Islamophobia and the necessity for aid for the Afghan people.

Although the UNSC has not passed a resolution on the 'India-Pakistan question' since 1972, Islamabad continues to raise the issue on its own and through organisations such as the OIC.

The Pakistan Prime Minister is presently on his way to the United Arab Emirates after finishing a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia (UAE).

Shehbaz will pay a visit to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, according to an official announcement from the PM's office.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday asserted that repairing relations with its allies and neighbours, including India, would be the priority of his government.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Sharif blamed his predecessor Imran Khan for Pakistan’s “deteriorating” relations with neighbouring countries.

“My priority will be to mend ties with all allies and neighbours of Pakistan. The previous government made things worse,” Sharif said while responding to WION.

“I will work with all neighbours for the betterment of the environment, including India,” he added, before adding a rider that the peaceful relations between India and Pakistan is subjected to the Kashmir issue.

“I have already asked (Indian PM) Modi to resolve the Kashmir issue and move towards lasting peace,” he said.

Acknowledging that he has only one-half-years of his term, the prime minister assured that his administration will focus on bringing down inflation and put Pakistan on the path of development.

“The biggest challenge is to overcome the devastating economy and inflation. The term of the parliament is one and a half years, how long we have to stay, the allies will decide together,” Sharif said.

“As a Prime Minister, I am making short- and medium-term plans to reduce inflation. Nations can’t progress merely by words. The only way to move forward is to work more and more,” he added.

Immediately after assuming office, the prime minister abolished two weekly offs, and ordered to open all the government offices for six days a week.

Asked when will the cabinet be formed, Sharif said, “This is a coalition government, everyone has to be involved.”

He added that his brother and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will finalise the portfolios of PML-N party ministers.

Reacting to reports of President Arif Alvi taking sick leave hours before his swearing ceremony, Sharif said, “If the President is not well then, may Allah give him health.”

Meanwhile, Sharif is expected to make his first official visit to Saudi Arabia and China in a bid to boost Pakistan’s relations with both countries.

Mending ties with India, other neighbours will be priority of my government: Pak PM Sharif

The Express Tribune newspaper, quoting a Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader, said that Sharif will be first heading to Saudi and then Beijing.

Earlier in the day, China congratulated Sharif for becoming the 23rd prime minister of Pakistan, saying that Beijing looks forward to building a "high quality" US $60 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)”.

As soon as it was made clear that Imran Khan would lose the no-confidence motion moved by the joint opposition led by Sharif on April 10, the Chinese state media projected that the all-weather ties between the two countries would get better under him than during Khan's government.

Sharif had spoken highly of China-Pakistan ties in his victory speech.

With the no-confidence motion just a few days away, both the ruling party and the opposition are trying to flex their muscles. Prior to this, both countries had vowed to reset ties, which had been strained over policy disagreements on Kashmir issue.&nbsp;

This year's World&nbsp;Environment&nbsp;Day&nbsp;will serve as the launch of the UN&nbsp;Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, calling for urgent action to revive damaged ecosystems.

Under Khan, Pakistan has undertaken a number of restoration projects, including a 10 billion tree-planting drive. This week Khan planted the billionth tree in that drive.

The UN&nbsp;Environment&nbsp;Programme (UNEP) said in a report released on Friday&nbsp;that over the last five years Pakistan had experienced an&nbsp;environmental turnaround after years of decline in its natural capital, but added more needed to be done.

"COVID-19 vaccines are now being administered in developed countries but it seems like it will take much longer for the vaccines to fully cover the Global South. Sustainable development will remain elusive as long as the pandemic persists," he said.

Suggesting a five-point agenda to tackle the pandemic and debt burden, he urged for "creating a viable framework for equitable and affordable supply of COVID vaccines to developing countries."

He also called for the general allocation of Special Drawing Rights (SDR) of USD 500 billion to help alleviate the balance of payment pressures.

An SDR is an International Monetary Fund unit for a financial transaction, which includes a mixed basket of currencies.

Khan also stressed on the world community to take measures for the return of stolen assets held by corrupt politicians and criminals.

"Reportedly, a staggering amount of USD 7 trillion is parked in (tax haven) destinations and it is also reported that USD 1 trillion annually leaves the developing countries for these (havens)," he said.

Khan also said the developed countries should meet the agreed target of mobilising USD 100 billion annually for climate action in developing countries.

He said Pakistan made an effort at ensuring that "we save people from dying from the virus, and at the same time preventing them from dying from hunger"&nbsp;and the strategy has worked well so far but continuous efforts are needed to fully overcome the second wave of the virus.

"The world today is grappling with a series of interlinked and unprecedented public health and economic crises. While the coronavirus does not discriminate between the rich and the poor, the most vulnerable people and countries have suffered the most," he said.

He warned that millions of people were likely to fall below the poverty line as a result.
