The comptroller also said about a third of the homeless encampment sites popped back after being cleaned up by municipal workers.<br />

For the homeless in Los Angeles, the situation is also gloomy.<br />

The TV station ABC7 on Wednesday reported that a leaked email of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said homeless people living at a West Hills encampment "will be arrested and all their belongings will be taken away by sanitation".<br />

<p>According to the attorney, this research was a combination of about 20-25 years of study. It was related to the molecular mechanisms or makeup of solar energy conversion for natural and artificial synthetic systems and synthetic reactions.<br />

The research also looked at cell cultures in incredibly low temperatures, and it related to the viability and sustainability of solar energy and future advances in the development and use of solar energy.</p>

<p>However, when asked if it will take another 20-25 years to restore the research now, Michael said that he doesn’t believe that it is going to be another 20 years for it because they already have the data. They will not be completely reinventing it, but they will recreate the culture of that research.<br />

<p>Some of the locals in New York City aren't happy after a recent proposal issued to cut down on coal and wood-burning pizza ovens by 75% in order to reduce emissions, New York Post reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>New rules were drafted by the New York City's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) stating that field test data must show that the Emissions Control Device has reduced the existing cook stove's total particulate matter emissions by 75%.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The main objective of the proposal was to reduce air pollution coming from coal and wood emissions. Pizzerias are now required to evaluate whether they can install emissions control devices for their kitchen stoves, but some say those devices would cost a lot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As quoted by Fox News, DEP spokesman Ted Timbers said in a statement Sunday: "All New Yorkers deserve to breathe healthy air and wood and coal-fired stoves are among the largest contributors of harmful pollutants in neighbourhoods with poor air quality."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This common-sense (sic) rule, developed with restaurant and environmental justice groups, requires a professional review of whether installing emission controls is feasible," Timbers added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some critics have said that the old and historic outlets would be impacted, and the smoky flavour of the pizzas might vanish if restaurants replace the coal/wood-fired ovens with cleaner-burning ones. New York City plans regulations to reduce pollution from pizza ovens

<p>In a devastating incident, a cleaner at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York, inadvertently erased decades of research by switching off&nbsp;a freezer in an attempt to silence what they deemed "annoying alarm" sounds.</p>

<p>The college has initiated legal action against the cleaner's employer, Daigle Cleaning Systems, claiming insufficient training, reported the Guardian.</p>

<p>As per the lawsuit recently filed in the New York Supreme Court in Rensselaer County, RPI is seeking damages exceeding $1 million, as reported by the Times Union newspaper.</p>

<p>The attorney representing RPI, Michael Ginsberg, expressed disappointment, stating, "People's behaviour and negligence caused all this. Unfortunately, they wiped out 25 years of research."</p>

<p>A man allegedly wounded three women in a series of subway slashing incidents in Manhattan late on Sunday afternoon.</p>

<p>The New York Police Department (NYPD) officials while releasing the pictures of the suspect, said they were on the lookout for the man.</p>

<p>In a press release, the NYPD said that the man, in separate incidents, slashed three women at the 86th Street-Lexington Avenue subway station between 4 and 5 pm&nbsp;on Sunday.</p>

<p>The police said that the first woman, who was the victim of the slashing, was attacked from behind in the right leg when she was getting off a train.</p>

<p>Moments later, the accused again slashed a 48-year-old woman's right leg as she was waiting for her train, as per NYPD.</p>

<p>Then the alleged assailant went on to attack another 28-year-old woman who was sitting in a southbound car.</p>

<p>Police said that the woman was immediately rushed to the hospital with a severe injury on her leg.</p>

<p>The United States on Saturday recorded three mass shootings in Illinois, Missouri and Washington in a day, leaving four dead, and at least 38 injured.</p>

<p>The first shooting occurred in central Pennsylvania on Saturday morning where two state troopers were shot, one fatally, in a multi-scene shootout with a man who initially fired bullets into state police vehicles outside police barracks, reported CNN on Sunday.</p>

<p>The accused, identified as 38-year-old Brandon Stine, got out of the vehicle and shot a long rifle into marked police cars, Col. Christopher Paris, the Pennsylvania State Police commissioner, said at a news conference on Sunday.</p>

<p>He then fled the scene, prompting the authorities to launch a wide manhunt that is said to have included helicopter reinforcement.</p>

<p>One of the state troopers, Lt James Wagner, located Stine early that afternoon and they exchanged gunfire. A shot from Stine’s gun struck and critically injured Wagner, Paris said.</p>

<p>“At this point in the incident, multiple citizens and witnesses arrived to provide aid to Lt. Wagner and use the radio that was in his car to summon additional troopers, (emergency medical services) and first responders to help,” Paris said. Stine fled the scene again.</p>

<p>The second shooting occurred on Saturday around 8.25 pm near Washington State during an electronic dance music festival in which two people were killed and three injured.</p>

<p>The incident occurred a few hundred yards from the Gorge Amphitheater near Georgetown after the shooter “randomly” started shooting at the crowd.</p>

<p>After firing the initial shots, the suspect started moving through the campground and “continued to shoot randomly into the crowd” until he was eventually confronted by police and taken into custody, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kyle Foreman said.</p>

<p>At least 20 people were shot, one fatally, during an overnight shooting in the US state of Illinois southwest suburban Willowbrook, on Sunday (June 18).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Local media reported citing witnesses that over 200 teens and young adults were gathered for a Juneteenth celebration when over two dozen shots were fired into the crowd. The incident took place at the intersection of Honeysuckle Rose Lane and Route 83 (Kingery Highway) in DuPage County.</p>

<p>The word&nbsp;'tossed&nbsp;pizza' has&nbsp;a particular meaning. It (usually) refers to a nicely made pizza using a technique possibly unique to the dish. The chef perfectly tosses the dough in the air. It revolves around itself, expanding its edges. It then becomes ready for toppings, sauces and whatnot before being nicely baked in an oven.</p>

<p>Any use of the word 'toss' normally assumes this meaning and forms a mental image which makes us quickly dial the pizza place out of sheer hunger. But New York City has witnessed something that'll impart new meaning to the words 'tossed pizza'.</p>

<p>An interesting&nbsp;Instagram video is being shared on Instagram. The video shows a man holding what looks like a pizza box. You may be forgiven for hazarding a guess that it's a pizza delivery guy. But instead of knocking on a door, he appears to be leaning out of a window high above the ground.</p>

<p>Facing him are two construction workers on a construction lift. The lift is attached to another building and there is a good 100 metres drop between the construction lift and the building with a window pizza guy popping his head out of.&nbsp;</p>

<p>And just when we think that there is an impasse, an insurmountable challenge that'll keep the construction workers hungry for the foreseeable future, the pizza guy hurls the box in the air.</p>

<p>For those of us (everyone!) who know the shape of a pizza box, it's not a huge leap of imagination to determine that it does not remotely resemble a football. It is therefore unlikely that it'll travel straight when tossed in the air.</p>

<p>The box veers in the air like a frisbee and almost goes in the direction of the construction platform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Remember, the flying pizza has about 100&nbsp;metres of altitude between itself and a resounding 'splat'.&nbsp;</p>

The video shows a man holding what looks like a pizza box. You may be forgiven for hazarding a guess that it's a pizza delivery guy. But instead of knocking on a door, he appears to be leaning out of a window high above the ground. Facing him are two construction workers on a construction lift. The lift is attached to another building and there is a good 100 metres drop between the construction lift and the building with a window pizza guy popping his head out of. And just when we think that there is an impasse, an insurmountable challenge that'll keep the construction workers hungry for the foreseeable future, the pizza guy hurls the box in the air. For those of us (everyone!) who know the shape of a pizza box, it's not a huge leap of imagination to determine that it does not remotely resemble a football. It is therefore unlikely that it'll travel straight when tossed in the air. The box veers in the air like a frisbee and almost goes in the direction of the construction platform. <p>A 22-year-old woman in New York was killed in a hit-and-run by her co-worker&nbsp;who had a crush on her.</p>

<p>The incident happened on Thursday night when the duo went for drinks, and when she refused to ride with him after the party, the man killed her.</p>

<p>Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office said that the young woman, Madison Faltisco, had been drinking in the bar with the suspect. Later that night, around 10.30 pm, she refused to get into his car since he was inebriated.</p>

<p>After she decided to walk to her house, which was nearby, along Route 57 in Clay around 11 pm, Joshua Schiano, 23, came from behind her and ran her over with his blue Hyundai Elantra.</p>

<p>Within two minutes of hitting her, Schiano crashed his car into a store sign and items outside a Salvation Army thrift store, according to local news channel CNYCentral.</p>

<p>The crashing led to Schiano’s car bursting into flames, following which he was taken to the hospital in police custody under suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Schiano did not sustain injuries,&nbsp;Syracuse.com reported.</p>

<p>Onondaga County sheriff’s spokesperson Tom Newton said Schiano never confessed to having hit someone while driving Thursday night, so they didn’t look for Faltisco.</p>

<h2><strong>Body discovered a day after</strong></h2>

<p>Her body was discovered the following day around 5 am on Friday when someone called 911 to report they found an unconscious woman on the side of the road. She was declared dead at the scene.</p>

<p>Both victim and accused worked at Smokey Bones, a nearby bar and restaurant.</p>

<p>One of Faltisco’s friends and co-workers, Halana Sieber, said that she received three phone calls from Faltisco just before the hit-and-run but didn’t answer any of them.</p>

<p>Sieber further revealed that she was also invited to join them at the bar that night, but did not go. Instead, she offered to give them a ride later, but Faltisco declined.</p>

<p>Reminiscing about her, Sieber described Faltisco as a “girl's girl”. Her other friends said that she had the “biggest heart” and that “she'd do anything for anyone”.</p>

<p>The tragic incident shook the neighbourhood which laid candles and flowers near the sight of her death along Route 57 in Clay. Heart-shaped balloons reading, “We love you always Maddy” have been tied to the posts.</p>

<p>The girl’s family has started a GoFundMe&nbsp;page to raise money for her funeral, New York Post reported,</p>

<p>Schwartz said he did not know the AI chatbot was capable of furnishing bogus citations.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I simply had no idea that ChatGPT was capable of fabricating entire case citations or judicial opinions, especially in a manner that appeared authentic. At the time that I performed the legal research in this case, I believed that ChatGPT was a reliable search engine. I now know that was incorrect," he wrote.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the judge said he would rule on whether to issue sanctions at a later date.</p>

<p>After a dangerous TikTok trend led to indiscriminate stealing of cars in the US, particularly of the Hyundai and Kia models, the city of New York is suing the South Korean carmakers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The city accused the automakers of negligence and creating a public nuisance by selling vehicles that are too easy to steal. New York argued that the carmaker did not install anti-theft devices called immobilizers on most of their cars between 2011&nbsp;and 2022, making it easy to steal them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“In electing profits over safety and deviating from industry norms by not including engine immobilizers as a standard safety feature, defendants created and maintained a public nuisance,” read the filing submitted to the US&nbsp;District Court in the Southern District of New York.</p>

<p>“This case is a clear example of what happens to public safety when car manufacturers choose not to include standard anti-theft technology in their cars,” the filing added.</p>

<p>“Making sure cars are not easy to steal protects both property and the public by keeping dangerous drivers in stolen vehicles off the roads,” it said</p>

<p>Through the lawsuit, the City aims "to hold the two companies accountable". It added that number of stolen Hyundais and Kias doubled last year, followed by an "explosion of thefts" in the first four months of 2023 with 977 reported thefts, compared to 148 in the same period last year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“This represents a roughly 660% increase in thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles as compared to those same months in 2022, when there were only 148 such thefts,” it said.</p>

<p>Notably, Hyundai is the parent company of Kia but the two companies operate separately. The uptick in thefts was reported after a TikTok challenge surfaced last year wherein&nbsp;Kia and Hyundai cars which still use mechanical keys and not electronic systems were targetted by clout-chasing influencers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The lack of anti-theft measures made the cars more vulnerable to larceny. The challenge egged the users on the app to take advantage and steal the cars using minimal tools. The thieves took videos of them stealing the cars and posted them on the ByteDance-owned platform with the hashtag&nbsp;“Kia Boys”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>New York City has joined the likes of&nbsp;Baltimore, Cleveland, Milwaukee, San Diego, and Seattle to have sued the South Korean automaker.&nbsp;</p>
