She vanished while riding her bike on Saturday evening at Moreau Lake State Park, a bushy forest area located 35 miles (60 kilometres) north of Albany, reported AP.</p>

<p>During a briefing on Sunday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said Charlotte's parents panicked after she failed to return after 15 minutes. Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Sunday morning, prompting an exhaustive search as they suspected her disappearance might be an abduction case. According to the alert, she was a 1.37 metres tall white girl with brown hair and green eyes.</p>

<p>Charlotte's family had pleaded with the public to find their daughter and asked to provide any tips to the police.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Monday, Governor Hochul said during a news conference that the police found a fingerprint from a ransom note left by the suspect, identified as Craig Nelson Ross Jr., 47.</p>

<p>Charlotte's family was at the campground when she went missing, added Governor Hochul. The police saw someone drop a note in the mailbox at 04:20 am on Monday.</p>

<p>One of the fingerprints on the ransom note matched Ross, who was involved in a 1999 DWI (driving while intoxicated) case. She said the authorities linked Ross to a property owned by his mother, found the little girl and captured the suspect in a camper at about 06:30 pm.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Hochul, the authorities took Charlotte to a local hospital. However, she appeared unharmed and reunited with her family.</p>

<p>The case is currently an active investigation, and Ross is still under interrogation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Charlotte Sena's rescue ended an intense search involving 400 people, including forest rangers, police officers and firefighters, expanded over 46 linear miles (74 linear kilometres).</p>

<p>Due to the search, the parks remained closed, and officials requested the public refrain from attempting to assist and instead allow the professionals to handle the situation.</p>

<p>Additionally, federal authorities put in place a temporary flight restriction over the park to ensure the safety of law enforcement air operations.</p>

"And of course, we know this is a result of climate change. This is, unfortunately, what we have to expect as the new normal. It makes us be more prepared than ever before. And it requires us to focus on resiliency, to head off the horrific impacts that could be there if we're not ready for the next storm,” the governor said.<br />

"This was the kind of rain that was once unimaginable and called them 'once-in-a-century storms'. But this is the third time since I was sworn in two years ago I've had a 'once-in-a-century storm'. This includes the historic flooding we had in the Hudson Valley this summer, which was deemed a 1000-year flooding event,” he added.<br />

The statement was made by the governor as the city started to dry out after experiencing one of its wettest days ever.</p>

Although the risk of flooding receded in the city by midday Saturday, a municipal hospital, located in the borough of Brooklyn, stated that all patients and staff would be evacuated after they experienced a power failure on Friday.<br />

The hospital officials said that NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull was using power backup after there was a power outage in their neighbourhood on Friday but for repair power needed to be entirely shut off for several days.</p>

Flights were either cancelled or delayed, and LaGuardia Airport's one terminal was evacuated.<br />

"This event was historic in some areas, was record-shattering, and it is the most rain ever recorded in a single day at a place like JFK, ever. Not just this summer, not this year, but ever. And the record is still coming in. We're still monitoring. The rain is still falling,” the governor stated.</p>

<p>In New York City, a&nbsp;state of emergency was declared on Friday (Sep 29) because of flash flooding which was brought by strong storms. Residents of the Greater New York City area are facing heavy downpours currently as Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency across New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hochul said, "I am declaring a State of Emergency in New York City, the Hudson Valley and Long Island in response to the significant, dangerous rainfall that is currently impacting the region and is expected to continue for the next 20 hours."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Ahead of this storm, we deployed thousands of State personnel and I have directed all State agencies to provide all necessary resources to address this extreme weather event. It is critical that all New Yorkers take all necessary precautions and avoid flooded roads, which are some of the most dangerous places during flash floods," she added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Flash flooding has disrupted subway service in the country's most populous city and turned many of its streets into small lakes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The National Weather Service said that a flash flood warning was in effect for New York City until midday as more than 2 inches of rain fell in some locations by Friday morning and 2 more inches possible within hours. In an advisory posted on its website, the service said: "Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some 18 million people in the New York metropolitan area and in other major cities along the East Coast were under flood warnings, watches and advisories from the weather service.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pictures and video footage have been circulated on social media forums, which showed neighbourhood streets and subways flooded across New York, disrupting morning traffic for millions of commuters.&nbsp;</p>

We watched Sally explore the area around her enclosure and then return," Karen Dugan an employee at New York's park department was quoted as saying by New York Times. Dugan and her colleagues at the city's parks department had an unusual view of the wandering sea lion from their third-floor offices in the Arsenal, a building within the park overlooking the zoo.</p>

<p>New York,&nbsp;one of the most populous cities in the US known for its bustling skyscrapers, is sinking under its own weight, a study done by NASA has warned.</p>

<p>The research conducted by scientists&nbsp;from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Rutgers University has pinpointed various locations in the city which are sinking at varying rates than the whole city.</p>

<p>The scientists said the sinking rate in these locations is faster than the average 1.6 millimetres per year experienced by the rest of NYC.</p>

<p>Among the areas which have been observed to be sinking faster are LaGuardia Airport, Arthur Ashe Stadium and Coney Island.</p>

<h2><strong>A city sitting atop ancient glacier that is now retreating </strong></h2>

<p>The researchers found that from 2016 to 2023, LaGuardia’s runways and Arthur Ashe Stadium was sinking at 3.7 and 4.6 millimetres per year, respectively.</p>

<p>While the whole city is sinking under the weight of skyscrapers, the newly identified hotspots are dipping because they sit atop an ancient glacier that is retreating.</p>

<p>And this is happening because of dual factors—natural and human, the study noted.</p>

<p>The ancient glacier covered most of New England about 24,000 years ago, and a wall of ice more than a mile high covered what is today Albany in upstate New York.</p>

<h2><strong>Some areas are getting uplifted </strong></h2>

<p>Interestingly, the team also found areas which are moving up.</p>

<p>East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and Woodside, Queens areas were found to be rising by about 1.6 mm and 6.9 mm per year respectively.</p>

<p>The study’s co-author Robert Kopp of Rutgers University believe that groundwater pumping and injection wells used to treat polluted water may have played a role in the uplift of these areas, but added that further investigation is needed.</p>

<p>In a statement, they said that there is an “inadequate humanitarian response” in the Indian state of Manipur after May clashes between Meitei and the Kuki ethnic communities. However, India rubbished the statement and termed it "unwarranted, presumptive, and misleading."</p>

'If you ask me... ': EAM Jaishankar addresses Manipur situation in New York

<p>US banking giant JPMorgan Chase has reached an agreement with the US Virgin Islands (USVI) to settle claims that it had empowered disgraced late financier Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of teenage girls. The parties reached a settlement just weeks before a trial was scheduled to begin at a federal court in Manhattan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The bank did not admit to any wrongdoing in the settlement which will give $55 million to Virgin Islands charities and the American territory's anti-trafficking efforts. The remaining amount will cover attorneys' fees incurred by the Virgin Islands as part of the litigation in federal court in New York.</p>

<p>"While the settlement does not involve admissions of liability, the firm deeply regrets any association with this man, and would never have continued doing business with him if it believed he was using the bank in any way to commit his heinous crimes," JPMorgan said</p>

<p>The settlement comes in the backdrop of JPMorgan, the largest US bank, agreeing to pay $290 million to nearly 200 victims of Epstein in a similar class action lawsuit.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>The lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase</strong></h2>

<p>The Virgin Islands government sued the bank in December last year, alleging that it knew about Epstein's predatory behaviour. It added that the bank turned a blind eye to evidence of human trafficking for over a decade as Epstein's account and the clients he brought to the bank made him extremely valuable.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier, the US Virgin Islands subpoenaed documents from billionaire Elon Musk as part of its lawsuit against the bank. Google co-founder Larry Page was also to be served the same legal document but the government failed to locate him.</p>

<p>The government said it had been unable to locate Page, who co-founded and co-owns Alphabet Inc, despite good faith attempts, which included hiring an investigative firm to search public record databases.</p>

<p>Epstein was accused of sexually exploiting dozens of underage girls, some as young as 14, at his homes in Manhattan and Palm Beach, Florida between 2002 and 2005.</p>

The parties reached a settlement just weeks before a trial was scheduled to begin at a federal court in Manhattan. The bank did not admit to any wrongdoing in the settlement which will give $55 million to Virgin Islands charities and the American territory's anti-trafficking efforts. The remaining amount will cover attorneys' fees incurred by the Virgin Islands as part of the litigation in federal court in New York. "While the settlement does not involve admissions of liability, the firm deeply regrets any association with this man, and would never have continued doing business with him if it believed he was using the bank in any way to commit his heinous crimes," JPMorgan said The settlement comes in the backdrop of JPMorgan, the largest US bank, agreeing to pay $290 million to nearly 200 victims of Epstein in a similar class action lawsuit. Earlier, the US Virgin Islands subpoenaed documents from billionaire Elon Musk as part of its lawsuit against the bank. Google co-founder Larry Page was also to be served the same legal document but the government failed to locate him. The government said it had been unable to locate Page, who co-founded and co-owns Alphabet Inc, despite good faith attempts, which included hiring an investigative firm to search public record databases. <p>Further, citing the example of the COVID-19 pandemic, the minister also stressed that "it is still a world of double standards."</p>

<p>"There is a growing sentiment in the world and the Global South in a way embodies it. But there’s also political resistance. Those occupying positions of influence are resisting pressure to change", said EAM Jaishankar during the event hosted by the Observer Research Foundation, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, United Nations India and the Reliance Foundation.</p>

<p>"They will mouth the right things, but the reality is still today, it’s a world very much of double standards," he added.</p>

<p>Speaking about the Global South and India’s G20 Presidency, Jaishankar highlighted how India was ‘the voice of the Global South’ and how it steered the global conversation back to global growth and development issues by getting the G20 to talk about what the world wanted to talk about, the real problem of the G20.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“To get the G20, to talk about what the world wanted to talk about, that was the real problem with the G20. Our Prime Minister put it very well, he said first let’s talk to the people who are not going to be on the table. Let’s find out what they have to say. This is why, we were the voice of the Global South. I think it gave us the basis to say, look we have spoken to 125 countries and this is really what is troubling them and that is why we need to focus on this issue”, said Jaishankar.</p>

Not all countries in the South are part of the Global South. And, I think there's also the mindset. So, the Global South is an expression, in a way, of a certain solidarity and generosity and sort of a sharing spirit community. I think if you're part of the Global South, you know it," he added.</p>

<p>Talking further, the Minister also said that the Global South ate less wheat and more millets.<br />
“In the name of the market a lot of things are done, like in the name of freedom a lot of things are done,” said EAM Jaishankar.</p>

<p>In his Europe’s mindset comment from last year, where he said that “Europe’s problems are the world’s problems but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems”, EAM Jaishankar said that "particular statement had a particular context" while also listing five big problems which is troubling the entire world.</p>

<p>“If you look between SDGs redevelopment, woman-led development, the digital public infrastructure, these are actually going to be the issues determined to the global progress of the next decade. Why I said this, I must also recognise, at the G20, that slot of European countries and other G20 nations, you know once you kind of reason with them and focus on them, I think everybody came on board. So, it took a country or a set of countries really to make that effort and bring the global conversation back on track,” he added.</p>

<p>Referring to the full consensus achieved by the New Delhi Declaration, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that many people were surprised when India was able to get everybody together.<br />
“On the G20 Summit, a lot of folks were still surprised that we actually got everybody together. I don’t think they completely expected that. So there will be one set of people who are still wondering how that happened”, said EAM.</p>

<p>“The other part, which I think includes some people with me here now has appreciated that we got the G20 to focus on the Global South and that the job for which the G20 was created, which was global growth and development, we got them to refocus on it and with particular attention to the Global South. We did that partly by organizing a Global South summit in advance,” he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a news release read on public television, the military called on "the national and international community to witness the perfidious actions of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which are likely to undermine any effort to end the crisis in our country".</p>

<p>Guterres "went astray in the exercise of his mission by obstructing Niger's full participation in the 78th session of the UN General Assembly", it added.</p>

<p>The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed three venues for the 2024 T20 World Cup that will be hosted by the United States and the West Indies. The confirmation came on Wednesday, September 20 with three cities - Dallas, Florida, and New York set to stage the carnival of the shortest version of cricket in 2024. The T20 World Cup will be the first time the USA hosts a major ICC event, having previously served as home ground for West Indies during several bilateral series in the past.</p>

<h2><strong>USA to stage T20 World Cup</strong></h2>

<p>“We’re delighted to announce the three USA venues that will host part of the biggest ICC Men’s T20 World Cup ever staged, with 20 teams competing for the trophy. The USA is a strategically important market and these venues give us an excellent opportunity to make a statement in the world’s biggest sport market,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.</p>

<p>USA and West Indies were selected as co-hosts for the global tournament back in November 2021, when the ICC Board awarded them the hosting rights. The venues were chosen following an extensive evaluation of several options.</p>

<p>Modular stadium solutions will be applied to increase facilities for the upcoming event. An agreement has been reached for the construction of a 34,000-seat modular stadium in Eisenhower Park, a purpose-built sports and events park in Nassau County, New York, on awarding of the required permit next month.</p>

<h2><strong>England to enter as defending champions</strong></h2>

<p>This will be the second time West Indies will host the marquee tournament having last seen action of the T20 World Cup in 2010. England were crowned champions for the first time in 2010 when they beat Australia in the final. The win also saw them win their maiden T20 World Cup title under the leadership of Paul Collingwood. Interestingly, England are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup having won the title in 2022 in Australia.</p>

<p>Several other potential venues have been identified for pre-event matches and training. These include George Mason University in Washington, which is the home for Major League Cricket (MLC) team Washington Freedom.</p>
