The TSA identified the passenger as an Arkansas man, who had a ticket to Chicago's Midway Airport but did not reveal his name.&nbsp;

The Port Authority police issued a citation for illegal possession of 9mm ammunition - a violation for unlawful possession as ammunition is prohibited in carry-on baggage. It is allowed only in the checked-in ones.&nbsp;

The TSA said that finding the bullets concealed in an unusual item. "Apparently this guy needs a bullet-proof plan for packing his carry-on bag before heading to the airport for his next flight," it said.&nbsp;

However, this is not the first time LaGuardia Airport authorities have made a strange discovery at the security checkpoint.

The United States on Friday (Dec 8) vetoed the proposed demand by the other&nbsp;United Nations Security Council countries for an immediate ceasefire in the intense fighting between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza, in a bid to shield its longtime ally.

Thirteen other members voted in favour of the draft resolution moved by the United Arab Emirates, while the United Kingdom abstained.&nbsp;

The voting came after United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in a rare move, formally warned the 15-member council of a global threat from the war, which has now been going on for over two months.

"What is the message we are sending Palestinians if we cannot unite behind a call to halt the relentless bombardment of Gaza?," Deputy UAE U.N. Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab asked the council. 
 
"Indeed, what is the message we are sending civilians across the world who may find themselves in similar situations?"

"The United Arab Emirates is deeply disappointed," said the representative of the UAE. "Regrettably... this council is unable to demand a humanitarian ceasefire."

The United States, defending its veto, said that the resolution still held a call for an unconditional ceasefire.

"This resolution still contains a call for an unconditional ceasefire... it would leave Hamas in place able to repeat what it did on October 7," said US deputy UN representative Robert Wood.

Wood further denounced the UAE stating that the draft resolution was a rushed, imbalanced text "that was divorced from reality, that would not move the needle forward on the ground in any concrete way."

"We do not support this resolution's call for an unsustainable ceasefire that will only plant the seeds for the next war," said Wood.

UK's UN Ambassador Barbara Woodward said that her country abstained because there was no denunciation of Hamas.

"Israel needs to be able to address the threat posed by Hamas and it needs to do so in a manner that abides by international humanitarian law so that such an attack can never be carried out again," she told the council.

Israel's UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan did not address the Security Council after the vote, but in a statement said: "A ceasefire will be possible only with the return of all the hostages and the destruction of Hamas."

Washington, being the permanent member of the Security Council, can veto any resolution.

Ahead of the vote, Guterres had said that "the brutality perpetrated by Hamas can never justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people."

During his trial, Trump called the judge Arthur Engoron, who is overseeing the trial,&nbsp;"crazy" and "unhinged," and denounced New York State Attorney General Letitia James as "corrupt" and "racist."

Early on Sunday morning, at least four people—two of whom were eleven and twelve years old—were fatally stabbed in a New York City home. The suspect, according to the authorities, went on what they describe as a "rampage," allegedly setting fire to the couch and slitting two police officers with a kitchen knife before being shot and killed.

Responding promptly to the call, two officers arrived at the address on Beach 22nd Street. After reaching the crime spot, the law enforcement personnel encountered a male suspect exiting the residence. He was carrying luggage, reports indicated.&nbsp;

Things took a horrific turn when the police reportedly tried to hold a conversation with the man. The man brandished a knife and started launching a frenzied attack on the police officers.

Reports suggest that the suspect stabbed one officer in the neck and chest area while another officer was stabbed in the head by the man. Faced with imminent danger, one of the officers resorted to using his firearm, shooting the man in an attempt to neutralise the threat. The man, when taken to the hospital, was declared dead by the doctors.&nbsp;The identified suspect, 39-year-old Courtney Gordon, had a prior arrest record related to domestic violence in the Bronx County.

New York court re-imposes gag order on Donald Trump

Luke Donald will remain Europe's Ryder Cup captain for the 2025 tournament at Bethpage Black in New York after masterminding this year's victory, team bosses announced on Wednesday.

The Englishman has been reappointed after the 16.5-11.5 win over the United States in Rome in October, after which Europe's players urged him to break with recent tradition and lead the side again.

The 45-year-old is Europe's first repeat captain since Bernard Gallacher performed the role in 1991, 1993 and 1995 and will attempt to become only the second skipper after Tony Jacklin to lead Europe to victories both home and away.

"I'm delighted and honoured to have been given the chance to lead Team Europe in the Ryder Cup once again," said Donald, who was initially appointed for the 2023 edition after Henrik Stenson was sacked for joining LIV Golf.

"Great opportunities don't come along very often in life and I'm a great believer that when they do, you need to grab them with both hands. This is one of these moments.

"I've been fortunate as a player to have had many amazing times in the Ryder Cup over the years and so to add being a winning captain to that, to form bonds with the 12 players like we did in Italy and to get the result we did, was very special indeed.

"The Ryder Cup means so much to me, so to be captain again and have the chance to create more history by becoming only the second European captain to win back-to-back is exciting."

<h2>'Two more years'</h2>

Since 1997 European captains have served just one term but Donald's players made it clear they wanted the former world number one to break the mould as they chanted "two more years" following the five-point win at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club.

"I think everyone sitting here would be very happy to have him again," said four-time major winner Rory McIlroy.

Donald said in the immediate aftermath of Europe's win that he would consider remaining as captain, although he was well aware that the last away victory for either side was the 'Miracle at Medinah' in 2012.

The world’s first transatlantic powered by 100 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) took off on Tuesday (Nov 28) from London and is currently en route to New York. The flight operated by Virgin Atlantic, dubbed Flight100, marked the first step in a potential low-carbon option as the world continues to grapple with the impact of climate change and is looking for ways in which it can lower the release of Earth-warming gases.&nbsp;

The large passenger powered by only alternative fuels operated by a Virgin Boeing 787 and powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines plans to show that SAF is a safe replacement for fossil-derived jet fuel compatible with today’s engines, airframes and fuel infrastructure.

The flight took off from London’s Heathrow Airport at 1149 GMT and is scheduled to arrive at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport at 1940 GMT.

The maiden flight also comes days ahead of the beginning of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/uae-using-cop28-summit-platform-to-strike-deals-with-oil-companies-report-663564">COP28 climate talks</a> in Dubai which are expected to&nbsp;focus on the future role of fossil fuels, and whether countries should commit to phasing out the use of carbon emitting&nbsp;coal, oil and gas.

<h2>What is SAF?</h2>

The so-called SAF is typically made from renewable biomass and waste resources but is said to have the potential to deliver the performance of petroleum-based jet fuel but with a fraction of its carbon footprint. SAF can be made from a variety of sources, including crops and household waste.&nbsp;

The SAF for Flight100 is made from a “unique duel blend” which includes 88 per cent of HEFA and 12 per cent of SAK, the former is said to be made from waste fats, while the latter is rest from the wastes of corn production in the United States, said Virgin Atlantic.&nbsp;

The fuel used by Flight100 also includes a small amount of synthetic aromatic kerosene made from waste corn, said the company. While the SAF is not unheard of since it is used in jet engines as part of a blend with traditional kerosene, this is the first time that a flight will only run on this type of fuel.&nbsp;

The one-of-a-kind flight is not carrying any paying passengers or cargo but includes passengers like Virgin Atlantic’s billionaire founder Richard Branson, its chief executive Shai Weiss, and United Kingdom’s Transport Minister Mark Harper.&nbsp;

<h2>How much difference does SAF make?</h2>

As countries across the world have sought to decarbonise in the upcoming decade the aviation industry is relying on SAF as the most effective tool available to help bring its net emissions down to zero.&nbsp;

The aviation industry is arguably one of the most difficult to decarbonise and accounts for around three per cent of emissions which contribute to human-induced climate change as a result of carbon dioxide and non-carbon dioxide emissions.&nbsp;

The use of SAF is not going to stop planes from emitting carbon, but the industry says the “lifecycle emissions” of these fuels can be up to 70 per cent lower compared to fossil-based jet fuel over its lifecycle.&nbsp;

But while SAF is key to reducing those emissions it comes at a cost which is about three to five times higher than regular jet fuel right now and accounts for less than 0.1 per cent of total global jet fuel in use today.&nbsp;

The planes releasing carbon dioxide also release particulate matter (PM) which causes contrails which are said to contribute significantly to climate change since they trap heat causing a greenhouse effect – particularly those that persist at night.&nbsp;

Therefore, researchers believe that we can reduce the aviation industry’s contribution to global warming by taking steps like using SAF altering flight altitude and flying during the daytime.&nbsp;

Researchers who are leading the scientific work, ahead of the take-off on Tuesday, measured particulate matter (PM) emitted by a smaller-scale aircraft engine and found that SAF reduces the emissions of PM.&nbsp;

As per the Imperial College in London the researchers will also reportedly analyse the effect of using SAF after the flight with on-board flight data, weather data and satellite imagery to estimate the amount of particulate matter released and track any contrails formed by the flight.

Last month, the head of the International Airlines Group (IAG) said the risk of the aviation industry not meeting the European Union mandate for SAF availability in 2025 is higher than 90 per cent.&nbsp;

Similarly, a report by Reuters citing analysts said that the 2030 target looks challenging given SAF’s small volumes and its high cost.

<h2>‘Greenwashing’</h2>

While many have hailed the maiden flight as a success story that, according to the UK’s transport minister, could inspire the “next generation of solutions” others, like environmental advocacy group Stay Grounded have described it as a “greenwashing distraction.”

“(Fuel substitutes) are nowhere close to being scalable in the necessary timeframe to avoid climate collapse. What is urgently needed is to reduce the burning of fossil jet fuels, which means reducing flights wherever possible,” said Magdalena Heuwieser, who represents the network, as quoted by Reuters.&nbsp;

Israel has since retaliated with heavy bombardment and a ground operation in Gaza which has killed nearly 15,000 people, mostly children, as per the claims of the Hamas-run government.&nbsp;

‘Let Gaza burn’: Teacher in New York school under fire for remarks on social media

A woman has accused New York City Mayor Eric Adams of sexually assaulting her nearly 30 years ago, US media reported on Thursday (Nov 23).

The civil suit claims that the plaintiff "was sexually assaulted by Defendant Eric Adams in New York, New York in 1993 while they both worked for the City of New York".

In the filing, the accuser, whose identity has not been revealed, is seeking a trial and at least $5 million in relief, reported news agency AFP citing The Messenger.

Adams has "vigorously" denied the accusation saying that he does not even remember meeting the plaintiff and that he wouldn't ever do anything to cause anyone physical harm.

"The mayor does not know who this person is. If they ever met, he doesn't recall it," a City hall spokesperson said in a statement.

"But he would never do anything to physically harm another person and vigorously denies any such claim."

The suit was submitted under the New York Adult Survivors Act, a law that was passed last year and opened a one-year window for sexual assault claims to be filed, which otherwise happened too far in the past to sue. The window expires on Friday.

Former police officer Adams took office in January 2022 as New York's second Black mayor in the history of the United States.

The civil case was filed on Wednesday (November 22). It calls for Rose to face a jury trial and award the victim "punitive damages".

"Rose used his fame, status, and power as a celebrity and performer in the music industry to gain access to manipulate, control and violently assault Kennedy," the complaint claims.

An ex-adviser to former US president Barack Obama has been sacked by his company after a video surfaced of him hurling a racist and Islamophobic tirade against a food cart vendor in New York. The man identified as&nbsp;Stuart Seldowitz worked for&nbsp;Gotham Government Relations - a DC-based lobbying firm which has cut ties with him.&nbsp;

Seldowitz in a viral video thread shared on social media, was caught harassing the vendor. Taking note of the situation,&nbsp;Gotham Government Relations on Tuesday (Nov 21) announced it was severing ties with him.&nbsp;

"Gotham Government Relations has ended all affiliation with Stuart Seldowitz, an individual who hasn't contributed to our work in years," the lobbying firm said in a statement.&nbsp;

"The video of his actions is vile, racist, and beneath the dignity of the standards we practise at our firm," it added whilst also removing his page from the firm's website.&nbsp;

Seldowitz was hired by the firm last year as its foreign affairs chair. Prior to that, he was acting director for the&nbsp;National Security Council South Asia Directorate under Obama and was deputy director/senior political officer in the US&nbsp;State Department’s Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs from 1999 to 2003.&nbsp;

From January through the end of October, the two defendants, Adama Sow, 38, and Abdulai Jalloh, 48, allegedly ran a large-scale knockoff goods ring out of storage facilities in Manhattan, authorities said.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents have seized New York Mayor Eric Adams' cell phones, said his campaign lawyer on Friday (November 10). This is being seen as an escalation of an investigation into fundraising for the campaign. The investigation pertains to suspected corruption and whether Adams' 2021 campaign colluded with Turkish government and others.

"On Monday night, the FBI approached the mayor after an event. The mayor immediately complied with the FBI's request and provided them with electronic devices," said Boyd Johnson, the lawyer for the campaign. He was quoted by AFP.

"The mayor has not been accused of any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate with the investigation."&nbsp;

The federal investigation came into public gaze just last week when FBI searched home of Brianna Suggs (25), a one-time intern who was Eric Adams' former top fundraiser. The FBI agents has seized laptops, mobile phones and a manila folder with a label 'Eric Adams'.

At the time of this raid, Adams was in Washington but rushed to New York.

Adams, who himself is a former police officer, released a statement on Friday last week.

"I expect all members of my staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any sort of investigation," he said.

"I will continue to do exactly that," the mayor said. "I have nothing to hide."

The New York Times has already reported that aim of FBI's raid on Sugg's home was to find evidence of any conspiracy between Adams' campaign, Turkey and a developer whose owners are Turkish.

He also warned that failure to abide by this order would result in “serious sanctions”. This comes after the New York judge said that the three lawyers made remarks about his clerk and falsely accused her of “bias” and “improperly influencing” the trial.&nbsp;

Engoron said he has an “unfettered right” to consult with his staff members throughout the trial.&nbsp;

State lawyer Andrew Amer also presented emails where Eric discussed classifying his father’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida as a private residence, which would help boost its value as opposed to it just being a club which hosted events.&nbsp;

The police stated that the man was charged with aggravated harassment in the second degree and assault in the third degree as part of a hate crime.

A prominent museum in the United States has announced that it would remove "human remains" from display, much of which were acquired in an era of imbalances of power, and used for promotion of debunked racial theories like white supremacy. The museum also condemned the "deeply flawed" practice of putting such things on displays.&nbsp;

In a letter written on Oct 12, the New York's American Museum of Natural History president Sean Decatur told the staff: "Human remains collections were made possible by extreme imbalances of power."&nbsp;

As per Decatur, who took up the position in April, many researchers in the 19th and 20th centuries used such collections to "advance deeply flawed scientific agendas rooted in white supremacy — namely, the identification of physical differences that could reinforce models of racial hierarchy".&nbsp;

The letter, published on its website, added, "Our Museum was the site of the Second Eugenics Congress in 1921, putting our institution’s civic and scientific authority behind a pseudo-scientific, racist, and xenophobic theory that was used to promote discriminatory policies.&nbsp;

Decatur called the research "disturbing morally" and "flat-out wrong scientifically".&nbsp;

Critics say that storing human remains has an educational value, but the museum president said in his letter that none of the items on display is so essential to the "goals and narrative" of the exhibition. "But at this moment, given the history of our human remains collections and how much we have still to learn, removal is the right course of action," the letter added.&nbsp;

The announcement means the museum will now get rid of human remains, including the skeletons of indigenous and enslaved people who didn't end up in graves. The museum now is aiming to re-do its entire collection.&nbsp;

In the statement, Decatur said, "We have the skeletal remains of approximately 12,000 individuals in the human osteology (skeletal) collection in the Division of Anthropology."&nbsp;

Decatur's statement revealed, "About 26% of the individuals in this collection are the skeletal remains of Native Americans from within the United States, with the remains of approximately 1,200 individuals housed at the Museum on behalf of the federal government and approximately 2,200 skeletal remains managed by our Cultural Resources Office according to the 1990 Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)."&nbsp;

The collection also includes the bodies of around 400 New Yorkers, which were apparently collected as recently as the 1940s.&nbsp;

The remains are part of a "medical collection", whose bodies were initially given to medical schools.

The collection also has the bones of five Black adults unearthed from a Manhattan cemetery for enslaved people in 1903.&nbsp;

Many US medical and anthropological institutions are also seeking to make amends for&nbsp;their controversial past practices, including the Mütter Museum in Philadelphia, and the Peabody Museum at Harvard University.

The Penn Museum in Philadelphia issued an apology in the past over the Morton Crania collection containing Black and indigenous skulls.&nbsp;

In the new policy guidelines, the natural history museum said that it will remove human remains, and improve the way they are stored. The museum will also look after greater resources for determining the origins and identities of remains.&nbsp;

In his letter addressing the staff,&nbsp;Decatur wrote that “identifying a restorative, respectful action in consultation with local communities must be part of our commitment”.&nbsp;

"From this painful legacy, it is our responsibility to develop a new ethical framework for our urgent work in this area, to study the history of the Museum, and step by step, to begin making concrete changes," the letter added.&nbsp;
