After an open tender war, the 1902-built, 22-story skyscraper that is rumoured to resemble a clothes iron sold for almost four times its opening price of $50 million, reported AFP.

"It's been my lifelong dream of mine since I'm 14 years old," winner Jacob Garlick, managing partner at the Abraham Trust investment fund, told TV station NY 1.

The broadcaster noted that Garlick has not yet revealed his plans for the historically significant structure.&nbsp;

The Flatiron in Manhattan, which spans Fifth Avenue, Broadway, and East 22nd Street, has been vacant since 2019 after MacMillian Publishers moved out.&nbsp;

Responding to a call for mass demonstrations if he is charged, only a couple dozen of Trump supporters attended a protest in America's financial capital on Monday evening.

Many US media reported that a grand jury was expected to indict Trump on Wednesday (March 22) after it interviewed its final witness, lawyer Robert Costello, on Monday.

If indicted, Trump would be the first former or sitting president to be charged with a crime — a move that would likely have ramifications for the 2024 White House race.

On Saturday, Trump said that he expects to be "arrested" and called on supporters to "Protest, take our nation back!". His lawyer, however, said that the remarks were based on media reports and not any fresh action by prosecutors.

There are fears that Trump’s call for protest could see a repeat of the January 2021 insurrection, where his supporters unleashed violence on the US Capitol.

In 2016, it was alleged that Trump paid $130,000 weeks before the polls to prevent Daniels from revealing about an affair she says she had with the ex-president years earlier.

Trump's ex-lawyer-turned-enemy Michael Cohen says he made the payment and was later reimbursed.

The payment to Daniels, if not properly accounted for, could result in a misdemeanour charge for falsifying business records.

Trump has denied having had an affair with Daniels and has blasted the investigation as a "witch hunt."

Mumbai Indians expand global footprint with New York franchise in USA's Major League Cricket

An Uzbek man, who was accused of killing eight people in a truck attack that took place six years ago in New York, was sentenced to life imprisonment after the jurors failed to agree on the punishment of the death penalty Monday.

Prosecutors had argued demanding capital punishment for Sayfullo Saipov, who was convicted in January of various murder and terrorism charges over the truck attack that happened on October 31, 2017.

Saipov was sentenced to a life term, devoid of any possibility of parole after the Manhattan federal court's jury failed to unanimously agree on the death penalty.

A rented pickup truck was driven by Saipov down a Manhattan bike path where New Yorkers were preparing to celebrate Halloween.

Among those killed was a group of five friends who had travelled from Argentina. Around 12 others were injured before Saipov was shot in the abdomen by the police.

It was termed the deadliest attack that took place in New York since the World Trade Centre buildings were brought down on September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda hijackings.

Saipov, who had shifted to the United States in 2010, is believed to have acted as per the instructions of the Islamic State militant group, which called him one of its "soldiers”.

Saipov's trial was the first federal prosecution carried out during the presidency of Joe Biden in which capital punishment was sought by the Justice Department (DoJ).

New York truck attacker escapes death penalty as jurors fail to agree

An Indian student travelling on&nbsp;an American Airlines flight from New York, United States to New Delhi allegedly urinated on a fellow passenger mid-air while he was intoxicated. The incident occurred on Saturday (March 4), an official told ANI on Sunday. The accused was later identified as 21-year-old Arya Vohra and has since been banned by the airlines. He was detained by the Delhi Police upon arrival who assured “strongest possible action” against him and have since registered a case.&nbsp;

What happened?

The incident took place on American Airlines’ flight AA292 travelling from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport which landed safely at 9:50 pm (late Saturday), said a statement by American Airlines, reported ANI.&nbsp;

It added, “Upon aircraft arrival, the purser informed that the passenger was heavily intoxicated, and was not adhering to crew instructions on board. He was repeatedly arguing with the operating crew, was not willing to be seated and continuously endangering the safety of crew and aircraft and after disturbing the safety of fellow passengers, finally urinated on pax seated on 15G.”&nbsp;

The airline company has since imposed a ban on the accused from flying on any of its flights in the future, reported ANI, while the fellow passenger who was allegedly urinated on is said to be a US citizen. Prior to landing at the Delhi airport, the American Airlines pilot contacted the ATC informing them about an unruly passenger on board and sought security personnel.

Detention and aftermath

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel took him out of the aircraft and said that the passenger misbehaved with the CISF personnel too, an airport official told ANI. A complaint was also registered with the Delhi Police who said that Vohra was a student in the US and a resident of the Defence Colony&nbsp;in the capital city.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Speaking about the complaint filed by the American Airlines, Devesh Kumar Mahla, DCP, IGI Airport told ANI, “They stated that he did not behave properly and created a nuisance and also urinated on the co-passenger. On the basis of the complaint we are contemplating action under IPC and Civil Aviation Act.” He added that they will take the “strongest action possible” against him to deter other flyers from such behaviour in the future.&nbsp;

“A case has been registered in the matter. We will do our best in this case. The accused Arya Vohra has been released,” the police official told ANI. American Airlines bans unruly, inebriated Indian student for urinating on co-passenger: Report

Rapper GloRilla, a Memphis native, was performing at the Rochester&nbsp;Main Street Armory, New York on Sunday when&nbsp;false fears of a shooting caused a stampede, killing one person and injuring eight others, according to Rochester police Lt. Nicholas Adams.

So far, the police have found no evidence to support that a shooting had occurred&nbsp;inside the concert venue, featuring rappers GloRilla and Finesse2tymes, the department said.

The incident was first reported around 11 PM on Sunday. Officers were told that gunshots were fired inside the venue, however,&nbsp;the initial investigation revealed that the injuries weren't consistent with gunshot wounds.

"The injuries appear to be as a result of a large crowd pushing towards the exits following accounts of individuals hearing what they believed to be gunshots,"&nbsp;Adams said.

The United States’ New York Police Department (NYPD) has yet again lowered its requirement for new recruits as it moved to scrap its 1.5-mile (2.4 km) at the police academy, the training Chief Juanita Holmes told the New York Post. The move has since sparked debate among department officials with many weighing in about the so-called controversial move.&nbsp;

According to Holmes, the move will make it easier for female applicants to become a part of the NYPD. Notably, this also comes months after the department dramatically relaxed its police fitness test after a record wave of retirements. Furthermore, the head of training has also insisted that the timed run which needs to be completed by the men and women in 14 minutes and 21 seconds is not necessary to become an officer.&nbsp;

“No cop on patrol runs a mile and a half…No one’s chasing anyone a mile and a half. Not to mention every day in the gym you’re doing a mile and a half (as part of training)”, said Holmes to the Post. She added that this requirement holds back otherwise qualified candidates, particularly women.&nbsp;

However, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell and now-retired Chief Kenneth Corey were against the move and took the matter up with the city’s Mayor Eric Adams, who reportedly agreed with Holmes. Therefore, now the only physical fitness criterion to become a part of the NYPD is the Job Standard Test (JST) which is a multi-step course which needs to be completed in four minutes and 28 seconds.&nbsp;

Notably, the NYPD has not responded to specific questions about the requirement in question as well as the move to scrap it and said that the JST meets the training standards required by the state. “To date, the NYPD is in compliance with the physical fitness standards set by the (state’s Municipal Police Training Council). The requirements to complete the daily physical training and tactics of our Police Academy, including running nearly every day, remains unchanged,” reported the Post.&nbsp;

This has also led many to question the fitness of the levels of the cops in the NYPD. “Cops are already out of shape. What’s going to be coming in here now?” said one police officer from Manhattan. While Eugene O’Donnell, professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and former NYPD cop, speaking to the Post blamed the move on the “defund the police” movement.&nbsp;

He added, “They’re the ones that did this, and they’re the ones who are going to have to live with the consequences of a department where the utterly unfit are all that’s left in the pool.” &nbsp;O’Donnell also told the Post how this decision is not driven by research but “sheer desperation” and how there is nothing but “disadvantages to public safety from this decision.”

Similarly, City Councilman Robert Holden said that he was worried about New York making it too easy to become a police officer and suggested giving more time to recruits to finish the run rather than just scrapping it entirely. “I think there’s more women that are fit than men! I’ve seen cops that are not fit and they can’t run more than one block - they are at a distinct disadvantage if they’re not fit,” said Holden, as per The Post.&nbsp;

This also comes after a six-foot wall inside the Police Academy gym was replaced with a chain-link fence which is said to be easier to climb, as per the report which cited a cellphone video showing multiple out-of-shape cops trying and failing to scale the barrier.&nbsp;

The 4ft-long female reptile, which was rescued from a lake located in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, was given the name “Godzilla” due to her size.

However, the alligator's health was in a dire state when she was rescued, and she was “extremely emaciated”, said the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in a statement.

When Godzilla was discovered, she weighed around 15 lbs. As per the image of a radiograph, an object which was identified as a 4-inch wide bathtub stopper, was seen stuck in the right part of the alligator's stomach, said WCS in its statement.

The rescuers are not able to remove the stopper because of the “weakened” status of the alligator, which has become a hurdle in the recovery of the reptile.

Godzilla is not able to eat herself and is being fed vitamins and nutrients along with antibiotics and anti-fungal medicines through a tube.

According to animal groups, the alligator was most probably a pet who was eventually abandoned by the owner. As per the New York Times, this kind of abandonment is not an uncommon occurrence in New York City after such unusual pets complete “their cute phase”.

The alligator was later transported to the Bronx Zoo for rehabilitation, the statement said, adding that "thankfully no one was harmed."

The last publicized discovery of an alligator in New York was in June 2001 when authorities, the press and curious residents spent five days following the pursuit and capture of a stray caiman in Central Park.

'Godzilla' captured: Rangers catch 'cold shocked' alligator in New York park

New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) terminal will remain closed for the second straight day. JFK is one of the world's busiest airports and serves international carriers like Korea Air, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines and Air France. The closing of Terminal 1 disrupted travel as some of the flights were cancelled. The chaos happened after an electric panel failure and a subsequent fire. The power outage began Thursday post which the passengers were sent to other JFK terminals.&nbsp;According to JFK's website, a total of 58 inbound and outbound flights at the airport were either delayed or canceled.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As per FlightAware, a website that tracks flight data, around 29 flights in or out of JFK were cancelled early Friday.&nbsp;JFK's owner, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said that efforts are underway to restore the flight operations as soon as possible.&nbsp;

Among the most common symptoms found in dogs are: loss of balance and difficulty walking, nausea, sleepiness and hallucinations.

Adding further problem is that some owners don’t even realise for days that their dogs had chewed on a joint while out on a walk.

The city usually gets its first snowfall around mid-December, last season it was on Christmas eve. These snowy days are beloved by children and office workers the most as they get off some time from their school and work.&nbsp;

Though this joy turns to despair fairly quickly as the snow turns yellowy-brown and trash piles up on the sidewalk.&nbsp;
