Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday (Sep 27) revealed why there has been no proof of life of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has not been released since he took power in March. Mojtaba Khamenei’s whereabouts have remained unknown since the war began on February 28, when the US and Israel launched joint strikes on Tehran. In the strikes, former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba’s father, was killed. Following his death, Mojtaba Khamenei was named Iran’s Supreme Leader in March. However, he has remained out of the public eye, with no pictures or videos of him released. Mojtaba has only shared written statements on occasion, which are often read on Iranian state media.<h2>Why is there no proof of life of Mojtaba?</h2>Speaking in an interview with NBC News, Araghchi revealed why there has been no proof of life of the Iranian leader since he came into power. There are lots of indications that he is under threat by Americans.”Dismissing earlier reports claiming that Mojtaba Khamenai is not completely in power and decision-making in Iran during the war, Araghchi said that he is in “full control”.“There are other indications that he is in full control, he is in full order. We receive his, you know, comments, and orders, and opinions. And there is a national consensus on decision-making. It is false if somebody thinks that there are different sources of power inside Iran,” Araghchi said.“We move based on national consensus. Why has Iran released no proof of life of Mojtaba Khamenei? Araghchi reveals...

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly suffered a second strike after he was injured in the first US-Israeli strike on Feb 28 that killed his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This attack was on a Tehran hospital where he was taken after being injured in initial attak. However, he survived and was "pulled from the rubble" of a Tehran hospital, according to a report by the New York Post. The report quoted Mohsen Heydari, a member of Iran's Assembly of Experts. He reportedly made the revelation in an interview with Qatari television network Al Araby. The New York Post report also detailed information about the selection process of new Supreme Leader.&nbsp;&nbsp;“Even after he had been wounded and taken to the hospital, three hospitals in Tehran were bombed. Mojtaba Khamenei was in the third hospital and was pulled from the rubble,” Heydari said, according to the New York Post. Heydari also spoke about the process through which Mojtaba Khamenei was selected as Iran’s new supreme leader on March 8. He said Mojtaba Khamenei apparently did not know he had been chosen until the announcement was broadcast on Iranian state television. The report said that Mojtaba Khamenei received 50 of 59 votes during the meeting, while eight members voted for Ayatollah Alireza Arafi and one member abstained.&nbsp;&nbsp;Heydari revealed that the Assembly of Experts, which is mandated to choose Iran’s supreme leader, was itself reportedly targeted during the strikes. The New York Post reported that its Qom Secretariat was bombed, killing eight people and destroying reports and recommendations concerning the selection of a new supreme leader. Heydari said members of the Assembly subsequently wrote their votes on paper before being summoned to a secret room for the selection process. He recalled being the first member to suggest Mojtaba Khamenei’s name.&nbsp;“Given the enemy’s position, we will choose and elect no one as leader and supreme guide of the Islamic Republic except Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei,” Heydari said according to the news report. “We obtained information that Mojtaba Khamenei was healthy and able to lead, and we determined that he met the requirements of religious qualification, justice and competence to manage the country,” he said. &nbsp;Heydari also referred to Mojtaba Khamenei as a “man of the shadows”, saying he had not held a political position within the Iranian state before becoming supreme leader, although he had reportedly served as an adviser to his father.&nbsp; Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/mojtaba-khamenei-s-voice-heard-for-first-time-in-video-released-by-iran-amid-health-concerns-1787639500193">Mojtaba Khamenei's voice heard for first time in undated video released by Iran</a>&nbsp;<h2>Where is Mojtaba Khamenei?</h2>Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the position of Supreme Leader after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in joint US-Israeli military strikes on February 28. Mojtaba Khamenei survived second attack after being injured in first US-Israel strike: Report

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared the era of "proportionate responses" is over, warning any future US aggression will trigger a "faster, heavier, and more painful" reply. It comes after US forces struck three Iranian oil tankers off Kharg Island and near Jask, retaliating for IRGC missiles fired at two Navy warships — both of which evaded the attack. Iran hit back, targeting tankers and US-linked vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

US-Iran war: Ghalibaf issues fresh threat, vows further attacks will be 'more painful'

Civilians continue to pay a heavy price in the ongoing West Asia war.&nbsp;&nbsp;A US air strike turned a wedding ceremony in Iran's Kuhestak city into a scene of mourning, leaving five people, including a child, dead and 70 others injured.&nbsp;In response, Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, warned that the Iranian people have 'unforgettable lessons' to teach US. This was followed by Tehran's powerful retaliation.&nbsp;Images released by the Iranian Red Crescent Society showed the spate of destruction in Kushetak.&nbsp;Debris can be seen everywhere and people were desperately trying to search for their loved ones.&nbsp;On its part though, US CENTCOM claimed to have struck IRGC targets, including air defence sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, and mine-laying capabilities in Iran.&nbsp;According to Iranian state media, at least eighteen people were killed in US strikes across multiple provinces including Hormozgan, Khuzestan, and Bushehr.&nbsp;Tehran said that Jiroft Airport in Kerman province was also attacked by US forces. This triggered a massive immediate retaliation from Iran.&nbsp;Air raid sirens rang out in Kuwait as its military grappled to intercept Iranian missile and drone attacks.&nbsp;IRGC announced that it carried out a combined missile and drone attack at the country's Ali al-Salem air base.&nbsp;It claimed that several US personnel were killed, drones were destroyed and a drone hangar was set ablaze.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Iran also released footage of missiles being launched at US bases in Jordan, which it targeted a day earlier as well. However, the Jordanian army claimed to have intercepted 10 ballistic missiles from Iran and added that three other missiles fell in remote areas. Meanwhile, Iran's army claimed to have launched dozens of explosive drones at US bases in UAE and Bahrain. According to Iranian state media, these drones struck radar systems and locations where US forces were stationed at UAE's Al Dhafra and Al Minhad bases. Smoke was seen in the sky in northern Bahrain following the Iranian drone attack. According to the Iranian army, radar facilities and gathering points for US forces at the country's Sheikh Isa airbase were hit in its drone attack. This is not all. Iran also claimed to have carried out a heavy ballistic missile strike on Jordan's Camp Titin, a US base near the Gulf of Aqaba at the northern end of the Red Sea. Additionally, Tehran asserted that it struck US bases in Iraq's Erbil, destroying a maintenance centre and warehouses. Now, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain high. Iran announced that two more oil tankers were set on fire after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz while passing through an unauthorised route. Although US Energy Secretary Chris Wright revealed that over 17 million barrels of crude oil transited Hormuz on Monday, ship-tracking data paints a very different picture. According to Kpler, only five ships sailed through this strategic waterway. Iran has now amplified the pressure on US and its allies. IRGC's political deputy general Yadollah Javani urged West Asian countries to expel US forces from their territories. Otherwise, he warned that IRGC would deliver a firm response against any region from where aggression against Iran is initiated. This assumes significance as over 50,000 US military personnel are currently stationed at warships and bases across West Asia. In wake of the US strikes, Iran's supreme national security council chief Mohsen Rezaeicautioned that US would now face a new strategy from Tehran on the battlefield in diplomacy and in confronting the economic blockade. Amid Iran's defiance, Trump's frustration came to the fore yet again. Ruling out talks, he urged Iranians to revolt against their government. The US President said, "I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz strait, and their economy totally collapsing. They are just playing out the inevitable. When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?" With Trump threatening that Iran will be totally wiped out if it retaliates against US strikes, it is quite apparent that tensions in West Asia are set to escalate.

After American strikes, Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, warned that the Iranian people have 'unforgettable lessons' to teach US. This was followed by Tehran's powerful retaliation. Images released by the Iranian Red Crescent Society showed the spate of destruction in Kushetak.

"Again, this servant's advice to the Iranian people is to not allow any differences to arise among themselves in any way," he said, echoing remarks made in another statement on Friday.&nbsp;"I firmly declare that doing anything detrimental to social cohesion is prohibited," he had said in Friday's message. In the same Friday statement, Khamenei also called for the gradual de-dollarisation of Iran’s economy and urged greater domestic production to help strengthen economic growth. His economic message comes as Iran continues to face the effects of years of US sanctions, alongside the economic pressure caused by months of a US naval blockade. The measures have placed further strain on livelihoods and economic activity across the country.

Trump made the remarks in an interview with US commentator Glenn Beck, as questions about Khamenei's health and whereabouts have persisted because of his prolonged absence from public view.<h2>Iran putting on an act, suggests Trump</h2>"I don't think he's dead," Trump said. "He was very seriously wounded. The left side of his body, the arm, the leg, the whole thing. He was very seriously wounded, but I don't think he's dead."Trump also suggested that Tehran may be deliberately keeping up the appearance that the Iranian leader remains involved in decision-making if he is in fact incapacitated or dead. "If he is, they're putting on a pretty good show," Trump said, claiming people continue to consult Khamenei and seek his "final blessing" on major decisions. Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/militarily-closed-iran-says-temporary-oman-route-does-not-mean-strait-of-hormuz-is-reopening-1787707227708">'Militarily closed': Iran says Oman route does not mean Strait of Hormuz is reopening</a><h2>New video fuels mystery over Khamenei</h2>The remarks came after Iranian media released another video involving Khamenei.Al Arabiya reported on Tuesday that Fars News published what it described as archival footage. 'If he is dead, they're putting on a pretty good show': Trump casts fresh doubt over Mojtaba Khamenei's fate

Iran's Mehr News has released a rare, undated 12-second video of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei showing him in discussion with advisers, amid widespread reports claiming he's in "critical condition" and possibly hospitalised. Since taking over after his father Ali Khamenei's death in a February airstrike, Mojtaba had made no public appearances, fueling months of speculation. The video's authenticity and actual recording date remain unverified.

Iran releases rare Mojtaba Khamenei footage amid reports of critical health

Iran has released a rare, undated video of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in which his voice is heard for the first time. This comes as Iran-US war enters a new phase with the US launching a economic strike on Tehran. In the video, the Supreme Leader is presiding over a religious academic study session. The video shows the 56-year-old leader listening as a student presents a thesis before offering his assessment of the work. The video has been shared by Iran's Fars news agency.&nbsp; Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/how-cia-mossad-are-trying-to-trace-mojtaba-khamenei-using-human-intelligence-1785517758432">How CIA &amp; Mossad are trying to trace Mojtaba Khamenei using human intelligence</a>

Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the position of Supreme Leader after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in joint US-Israeli military strikes on February 28. Since assuming the role, Mojtaba has not made any public appearances, communicating exclusively through written statements. In the first week of August, speculation regarding his well being intensified after Israel's Channel 14, citing sources inside Iran, and a report by The Jerusalem Post, quoting IranWire and sources close to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's administration, flagged grave concerns over his health, claiming that it wouldn't be a surprise “if the news of his martyrdom arrives.” The Iran International claimed that Pezeshkian reportedly said he was taken to a secret location in Tehran and allowed only a brief meeting in a dark, tinted-window vehicle with a man presented as Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.&nbsp;&nbsp; Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/mojtaba-khamenei-makes-an-appearance-amid-israeli-reports-of-his-death-but-in-undated-video-1786233981089">Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei makes an appearance amid Israeli reports of his death</a>&nbsp;However, on X, Pezeshkian said he had spent two and a half hours with the country's new leader in a “cordial atmosphere.” "Someone who can sit and discuss for seven to eight hours cannot have any health problems," the President said, noting that he had held a "very good" meeting. Soon after this, Iran released another undated video in which he was seen in good health.&nbsp; The junior Khamenei did not attend his father's funeral and recent reports by CIA and Israeli media indicate that he is nowhere to be found. After he took over the top role in Iran, reports indicated that he was injured and potentially disfigured in the initial strikes that targeted his father's compound, forcing him into hiding and compelling him to communicate with senior regime figures through a slow network of intermediaries to avoid targeting.

The remarks come in direct response to escalating economic pressures from Washington, with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent vowing an aggressive campaign of fresh sanctions aimed at crippling the Iranian economy.

US-Iran war: Iran president urges end to war from position of strength

The 60-day deadline between US and Iran has ended today without an end to the war. This is not a failure of diplomacy. It's the human will unwilling to see anything beyond big egos. The world doesn't know where the war stands today. Is peace president Trump really arm-twisting Iran? Is Iran still managing to stand up to the United States? Meeting with supreme leader lasted 7 hours, discussed war repercussions, says Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has acknowledged that communicating with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is currently "very difficult". Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his late father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has remained completely out of the public eye and has communicated primarily through written statements following injuries sustained in a US-Israeli strike.

Iranian prez highlights difficulty communicating with Mojtaba

One of the world's most advanced intelligence agencies, the CIA and Mossad, are reportedly searching for Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei but have struggled to locate him. Despite advanced surveillance technology, the hunt has reportedly shifted towards human intelligence as agencies try to determine whether Mojtaba is alive and, if so, where he is hiding.&nbsp;According to reports, Mojtaba has avoided using phones, laptops and other electronic devices for nearly five months, denying intelligence agencies the digital trail they normally rely on. Messages are reportedly being passed to him through multiple couriers, with each person allegedly carrying only a small part of the communication chain. Intelligence experts say the method makes it extremely difficult to trace the final destination or identify those involved.&nbsp; The shift is significant because cyber operations reportedly played a major role in tracking Mojtaba's father and Iran's previous Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died in US-Israeli strikes on February 28. Mojtaba Khamenei is believed to have suffered serious injuries in the strikes. To track Ali Khamenei, Israel and the US reportedly hacked traffic cameras in Tehran to identify vehicles used by the former Supreme Leader's bodyguards and associates. This time, however, electronic surveillance has reportedly produced few answers.&nbsp;Investigators are now reportedly relying more heavily on human sources and informants inside Iran in the hope of finding a breakthrough. The mystery surrounding Mojtaba's whereabouts has deepened following recent public appearances linked to the Iranian regime. Funeral visuals of Ali Khamenei and the presence of members of the Khamenei family have fuelled speculation, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has claimed that he personally met the injured Supreme Leader and said he was recovering well.&nbsp; Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/maharashtra-cyber-files-fir-over-alleged-ai-morphed-videos-targeting-pm-modi-piyush-goyal-1785514754883">Maharashtra Cyber files FIR over alleged AI-morphed videos targeting PM Modi, Piyush Goyal</a>&nbsp;At the same time, some experts have raised the possibility of body doubles, while others continue to question whether Mojtaba is alive at all. Investigators are reportedly focusing on possible underground shelters, including locations in Tehran and near the holy city of Qom.&nbsp;According to experts, Israel allegedly faced a similar challenge while trying to locate Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, with too much reliance on electronic technology and not enough focus on human intelligence. Intelligence analysts say the only realistic way to locate Mojtaba may be to recruit someone with direct access to his inner circle. However, they consider this extremely difficult because of tight security and strict screening.&nbsp; For now, one of the world's biggest intelligence hunts remains unresolved, with cyber espionage reportedly taking a back seat as human intelligence emerges as a potentially decisive factor.

The CIA and Mossad are reportedly struggling to locate Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, with the search increasingly relying on human intelligence after electronic surveillance failed to reveal his whereabouts.

Despite advanced surveillance technology, the hunt has reportedly shifted towards human intelligence as agencies try to determine whether Mojtaba is alive and, if so, where he is hiding. According to reports, Mojtaba has avoided using phones, laptops and other electronic devices for nearly five months, denying intelligence agencies the digital trail they normally rely on. Messages are reportedly being passed to him through multiple couriers, with each person allegedly carrying only a small part of the communication chain. Intelligence experts say the method makes it extremely difficult to trace the final destination or identify those involved. The shift is significant because cyber operations reportedly played a major role in tracking Mojtaba's father and Iran's previous Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died in US-Israeli strikes on February 28. Mojtaba Khamenei is believed to have suffered serious injuries in the strikes. To track Ali Khamenei, Israel and the US reportedly hacked traffic cameras in Tehran to identify vehicles used by the former Supreme Leader's bodyguards and associates. This time, however, electronic surveillance has reportedly produced few answers. Investigators are now reportedly relying more heavily on human sources and informants inside Iran in the hope of finding a breakthrough. The mystery surrounding Mojtaba's whereabouts has deepened following recent public appearances linked to the Iranian regime. Funeral visuals of Ali Khamenei and the presence of members of the Khamenei family have fuelled speculation, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has claimed that he personally met the injured Supreme Leader and said he was recovering well. Also Read: Maharashtra Cyber files FIR over alleged AI-morphed videos targeting PM Modi, Piyush Goyal At the same time, some experts have raised the possibility of body doubles, while others continue to question whether Mojtaba is alive at all. Investigators are reportedly focusing on possible underground shelters, including locations in Tehran and near the holy city of Qom. According to experts, Israel allegedly faced a similar challenge while trying to locate Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, with too much reliance on electronic technology and not enough focus on human intelligence. Intelligence analysts say the only realistic way to locate Mojtaba may be to recruit someone with direct access to his inner circle. However, they consider this extremely difficult because of tight security and strict screening. For now, one of the world's biggest intelligence hunts remains unresolved, with cyber espionage reportedly taking a back seat as human intelligence emerges as a potentially decisive factor.

A recent US intelligence assessment suggests that Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, may be more open to developing nuclear weapons than his father, Ali Khamenei. The finding has heightened concerns over Tehran’s strategic ambitions and raised the potential for fresh regional escalation. Analysts pointing to Mojtaba Khamenei’s potential interest in a nuclear deterrent highlight several factors, including lessons drawn from recent direct military confrontations with Israel and the United States, close ties to senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders, and a regional security environment where Israel is widely believed to possess nuclear weapons.
