US Elections 2024: Can Michelle Obama stall Trump's growing popularity? | US News

Recent reports in the US media suggest that former US First Lady Michelle Obama may enter the 2024 presidential election, setting the stage for a potential showdown with former US president Donald Trump. Speculations have been rife after Cindy Adams' column in the New York Post and longtime Trump adviser Roger J. Stone Jr&nbsp;predicting the same.

"I continue to predict — as I have for well over two years — that Michelle Obama will be the Democrat Party Nominee for President in 2024," Roger J Stone Jr, the longtime adviser to Donald Trump posted on social media a week before the Iowa caucuses.

<h2>What did Cindy Adams say?</h2>

Adams dismisses incumbent US President Joe Biden as the next potential president citing his purported reluctance to debate and challenge in delivering pre-written scripts.&nbsp;

In her article, she contends, "Biden won’t debate. Can’t. Our codger-in-chief cannot even read the prewritten script in front of him fast enough to pronounce the words. So, forget him, which most of us already have."

Adding weight to the speculation, Adams pointed to Michelle Obama's expressed apprehension about the 2024 election outcome in a podcast interview.&nbsp;

The columnist suggests that Obama's concerns were not a mere casual remark but a strategic move, noting that she has sent a survey to Democratic Party leaders gauging their support for her potential candidacy.

Donald Trump Vs Michelle Obama in 2024 US elections? Reports say former first lady could replace Joe Biden

With former US president Donald Trump still having high approval ratings and current President Joe Biden not so much, there is an apparent stir within the Democratic Party ranks about prospects of its hold on the power post-US Presidential Election 2024. RadarOnline[dot]com has reported that secret back-channel talks have started within the Democratic Party to convince former first lady Michelle Obama to run for president.

The news report has said that numbers suggest Michelle Obama would have greater approval ratings (48 per cent) than Biden (36 per cent) if she declared right now that she would be running for president.

“If Michelle announced, the election would go immediately from a hotly contested footrace to a landslide,” a Democrat source reportedly said.

Trump is currently facing a slew of legal troubles. From hush money to a porn star to charges of attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 US elections, he has been forced to make appearances in a number of courts across the US, becoming the first sitting or former US president to suffer this fate. Many of the hearings in these cases are likely to take place&nbsp;just when the race to win the Republican Party nomination to contest the 2024 election heats up in the coming months.

However, it has been seen that Trump's legal troubles have not affected his popularity among Republican voters and he still leads the pack of Republican hopefuls in approval ratings. There is reportedly a feeling among Republican voters that Trump remains the best shot to beat Biden in 2024 elections.

RadarOnline[dot]com had&nbsp;previously reported that former US president Barack Obama, husband of Michelle Obama, has been secretly rallying congressional support for a candidate other than Joe Biden. This, in spite of Obama's&nbsp;public support for Biden for a second term.

Many of the hearings in these cases are likely to take place just when the race to win the Republican Party nomination to contest the 2024 election heats up in the coming months. Women, especially in the public eye, have become targets of gendered disinformation, a mix of misogyny and fallacy that spoils their reputations, damages their credibility, and hurts their professions. AFP's global fact-checkers have discredited fake news attacking women in politics. They have revealed multiple online campaigns featuring fake news or manipulated photos, often sexually charged. In 2022, a fake picture of Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska, lying topless on an Israeli beach took Facebook by storm. The manipulated image triggered criticism that she enjoyed her vacation while the war-struck Ukraine suffered. However, AFP revealed that the woman in the photo was a Russian television presenter. Many prominent political figures have been targets of false online posts and transphobic remarks, including the USA's former first lady Michelle Obama, France's first lady Brigitte Macron, and New Zealand's former prime minister Jacinda Ardern. Former United States (US) First Lady Michelle Obama opened up about how she felt on the day of then-President Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2017. She shared her experience on the "Michelle Obama Light Podcast" (by Audible) on Tuesday (March 7).

"That day was emotional for so many different reasons. We were leaving the home we had been in for eight years. The only home our kids really knew. They remembered Chicago, but they had spent more time in the White House than anywhere else," Obama said.&nbsp;

“There were tears, there was that emotion. But then to sit on that stage and watch the opposite of what we represented on display – there was no diversity, there was no colour on that stage, there was no reflection of the broader sense of America," she added.&nbsp;

Obama said the family then went to the Andrews Air Force Base, said goodbye to the military, and got on Air Force One. "And when those doors (of Air Force One) shut, I cried for 30 minutes straight. Uncontrollable sobbing," Obama also said during the podcast.&nbsp;

Since leaving the White House, Michelle Obama has revealed details about her mood on the day of Trump's inauguration. According to a report by ABC news, Obama said in her book that she was unable to put on a happy face and smile during the inauguration.

In the audio of the book, Obama said, "Someone from Barack’s administration might have said that the optics there were bad, that what the public saw didn’t reflect the President’s reality or ideals, but in this case, maybe it did. Realising it, I made my own optic adjustment. I stopped even trying to smile," according to the report.&nbsp;

In a new book titled 'The Light We Carry', former first lady Michelle Obama has revealed that she hates her appearance “all the time and no matter what”. “I’ve lived with my fearful mind for 58 years now. She makes me uneasy. She likes to see me weak," writes Obama in the book, whose excerpts have been published in The Guardian. Obama adds that there have been "plenty of mornings" when she turned on the bathroom lights, looked at herself and "desperately" wanted to flip the switch off again. Obama admitted that she experienced a 'low-grade' form of depression during the pandemic as well. “I kept with the work I’d been doing, speaking at virtual voter registration drives, supporting good causes, acknowledging people’s pain but privately I was finding it harder to access my own hope or to feel like I could make an actual difference.” WATCH | US Midterm Elections: Democrats pin hopes on former President Obama × Obama also talked about the time when the Democrats approached her to speak at the party's national convention in 2020. The former first lady said she felt 'stalled out' whenever she thought about speaking at the event. She eventually agreed to speak at the event where she called Trump, the 'wrong president'. “I felt a blanket of despondency settling over me, my mind sliding toward a dull place,” writes Obama, before adding, “I was less able to muster optimism or think reasonably about the future. Worse, I felt myself skirting the edges of cynicism – tempted to conclude that I was helpless, to give in to some notion that when it came to the epic problems and massive worries of the day, nothing could be done.” Read more: Michelle Obama opens up about relationship: Sometimes wanted to push Barack out of the window The book releases today and comes nearly four years after her 2018 memoir 'Becoming' and aims to build upon it. Another gaffe! The United States President Joe Biden mistakenly referred to the former First Lady Michelle Obama as the former Vice President of the country. The mistake was corrected by the White House, however, the clip went viral on social media, leaving the netizens abuzz. Biden was speaking while commissioning the commemoration Ceremony of the USS Delaware on Saturday (April 2), where he was praising his wife, the current First Lady, Jill Biden. In the video, Biden can be heard as saying, "I'm deeply proud of the work she [Jill] is doing as First Lady with Joining Forces initiative she started with Michelle Obama when she was Vice President and now carries on." The transcript of the speech, which was uploaded on the official website of the White House, struck the word "she" and added the word "I" in a bracket. The corrected statement read: "...she started with Michelle Obama when she [I] was Vice President and now carries on." This is not the first time the White House has corrected Biden's mistakes and slip-ups. Recently, Biden's comments targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared to be a call for his exit. While speaking in front of a crowd in Warsaw, Poland on March 26, Biden said: "For God's sake, this man [Putin] cannot remain in power." The Biden administration rushed to correct it. They said Biden was not asking for "regime change". Always the one to start her digital interactions with a wide smile. Forever chirpy. &nbsp;Eager to sprinkle her positivity all over those millions of followers she has on social media and so humble that you almost forget that she’s just won a Daytime Emmy for her documentary with Michelle Obama, ‘Creator For Change’. "I still think it has not happened," Prajakta Koli—better known as MostlySane—tells us during our telephonic interview.&nbsp;

Although her acting career has taken off full swing—she has her second season of ‘Mismatched’ on Netflix, and then there’s the Bollywood debut in the multi-starrer ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’—Prajakta says she would always be a content creator first and don other hats later.&nbsp;

In this exclusive conversation with WION, the digital star spills some serious beans on her acting ambitions, casually hanging out with ‘the’ Michelle Obama and explains in what ways was Varun Dhawan helpful&nbsp;in her debut big Bollywood project. Excerpts from the chat:

Take us back to how it all started for you—YouTube videos! Why was it important for you to be heard on a video-sharing platform? So take us back to that moment.

I didn't really want to make content because I wanted to be seen or I wanted to be heard. I just wanted to make content because I didn't know what else to do. I was failing at being a Radio Jockey and that used to be my dream job, and it wasn't working. So making videos actually came as a safety net, because that’s the only thing I could fall back on right then.

&nbsp;<img alt="vgbgmhgbdscsa" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="29a70349-bf69-403a-865a-e1e2b9b5da4b" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/pjimage%20-%202021-10-31T183403.056.jpg" />
You have worked with so many popular personalities from around the world. How was how has that journey been for you?

It was amazing! I mean, one of the favorite parts of my job is the fact that I get to collaborate with people from different fields, people from different parts of the world, people from different schools of thought, people from, you know, people who have lived life very differently than I have. Overall, just amazingly creative people from around the world. And I feel like that God has been amazingly kind to me.

<blockquote>
When I started off, I never thought that I would be on YouTube or the overall digital content creation would open a new door for me.
</blockquote>

But, I'm very happy. Honestly, one of my favorite meeting has to be creating content.&nbsp;

I know you have talked about Mrs. Michelle Obama in the past. But, we still want to know how she is like when the camera's not rolling? Has she has she shared any words of wisdom with you? What have you learned from her that resonates with you even to this day?

I think the best part about it was that I don't think she's very different when the cameras’ not rolling. And she's extremely relatable. She's as real as she seems to us via, you know, all the content that we see (on her). Michelle Obama is exactly like that. And I think that was one of my biggest lessons to just see someone like that.

<blockquote>
It's almost like she didn't know she is Michelle Obama. And that sounds normal. She walks into a room, she gives you a hug. She talks to you like you're a friend.
</blockquote>

As if it’s nothing. I remember feeling so nervous as she entered the room. And, after she came inside the room, I think within a few seconds, she came and hugged all of us and then immediately all those thoughts that she was ‘the Michelle Obama’ and I was nervous: it just wasn’t there anymore. It was as if we were just a bunch of girls sitting down talking about girls’ education. And I think that is such a beautiful quality to have—to have achieved so much in life, at least where she is right now. But, still have your feet solid on the ground. I think that was that was a beautiful thing.

You have won the Outstanding Daytime Non-Fiction Special for ‘Creator of Change’ featuring the former first lady of America, and for an issue you genuinely seem to be care about. Has the feeling sunk in yet? How's the feeling of winning such a massive award?

I don't think I can process something like this. It was way too big; way too big a possibility for me in my head. But, I still believe that has not happened. At the same time, I'm very grateful that I get to be in a position and live a life like this. So, it's just a whole lot of gratitude and I think more motivation to keep doing (good) work.&nbsp;

You have such an amazing on-screen chemistry with Rohit Saraf in ‘Mistmatched’ (Netflix). How did you guys manage to exude such effortless charm in your debut outing together? Because I feel like there is a proper friendship between the two of you that goes beyond work.

No, no. I mean, I remember when I first met the entire cast and crew. I met the director first, and Rohit was my first friend and on set; we got along with him. And that still prevails. I mean, he's one of my closest friends. I love him so much. I think he's so talented. He's such a beautiful person. I think both of us love complex issues. Both of us were very invested in the different shades of Dimple and Rishi (their respective character names on the show). I think what sort of helped us hold on to the characters and the chemistry on screen.

For your Bollywood debut, you are working with a stellar star cast that involves senior actors as well as your contemporaries. So how's it working with them? Were you nervous? What was the feeling like? What is the whole vibe like between all of you?

I was extremely nervous. We started shooting in November 2020, which was last year. And I remember when I was supposed to fly with everyone for the first schedule. I was extremely nervous. I mean it was going to be my first time meeting, no one had met everyone anyone before. I had just met our director because I started meeting with him before I met him a couple of times during the process. However, I've met Varun Dhawan a few times before that. Honestly, I think he has a huge role to play in the fact that I was very, very comfortable when I was on set because he was extremely warm, but even before that. And then I met everyone and you know, it was just I feel so grateful and I feel so blessed that I just to be on time when again where people are just so amazing. Everyone's was so nice. Everybody was so accommodative.

Everyone was so warm. I mean, from Kiara and Anil sir to Neetu ma’am and everyone on set. We're always laughing. It's always a really good time to be there. It was like everyone was one team, and it was like a family when we would all sit down. But I think it is a beautiful collaboration. That was wonderful.

I think it's safe to say that you are a proper actress now. So what lies ahead of you as a content creator? Will that take a backseat now? Or are you going to be one of those digital content creators who will also act in mainstream films and OTT platforms?

I honestly think that everything that I get to live and experience and work with today stems from the fact that, you know, people saw me on YouTube. I have an audience that supports me and hold me up and helps me reach new places. And I am completely aware of that. I know that creating content would be like cutting off the golden goose and I would never want to do that. Also, I love shooting videos, I absolutely love it! It's one of my favorite things to do about my job.

You are someone who's extremely positive—I have read people's comments on your posts—and people look up to you when it comes to positivity. So how do you deal with the negativity &nbsp;in your life—both online and in the real world?

Honestly, as far as online trolls are concerned, I don't deal with it, it's not worth my time. I'm very blessed. And I'm extremely grateful because I get a lot of love online. And I'm very proud to always say that I have followers that are very supportive. So, if it's hate online, I really don't care. It's not my problem. But, otherwise, I think negativity in life, I'm very blessed to have a close circle of people who are most amazing human beings I've ever met. My friends and my family I think are just, you know, I feel a lot of happiness to have them generally in life.

Always the one to start her digital interactions with a wide smile. Forever chirpy. Eager to sprinkle her positivity all over those millions of followers she has on social media and so humble that you almost forget that she’s just won a Daytime Emmy for her documentary with Michelle Obama, ‘Creator For Change’.

"I still think it has not happened," Prajakta Koli—better known as MostlySane—tells us during our telephonic interview. Although her acting career has taken off full swing—she has her second season of ‘Mismatched’ on Netflix, and then there’s the Bollywood debut in the multi-starrer ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’—Prajakta says she would always be a content creator first and don other hats later. In this exclusive conversation with WION, the digital star spills some serious beans on her acting ambitions, casually hanging out with ‘the’ Michelle Obama and explains in what ways was Varun Dhawan helpful in her debut big Bollywood project. Excerpts from the chat: Take us back to how it all started for you—YouTube videos! When I started off, I never thought that I would be on YouTube or the overall digital content creation would open a new door for me. But, I'm very happy. Honestly, one of my favorite meeting has to be creating content. It's almost like she didn't know she is Michelle Obama. And that sounds normal. She walks into a room, she gives you a hug. She talks to you like you're a friend. I don't think I can process something like this. It was way too big; way too big a possibility for me in my head. But, I still believe that has not happened. At the same time, I'm very grateful that I get to be in a position and live a life like this. So, it's just a whole lot of gratitude and I think more motivation to keep doing (good) work. During the US election 2020, former President <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a> made sure he calls Biden a mental retard” at least once in every appearance. However, he was still tad soft on Biden, a book claims.

A new book by Michael Bender titled, ‘Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost’ claims Donald Trump went soft on Joe Biden with fears that the Democratic party might replace him with Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama.

The 3 who never fail to make me smile: Barack Obama's sweet tribute to family on Valentine's Day

Forget red and blue (states). The theme of the Biden inauguration was “America United,” and the colour of the day seemed to be purple — the shade that bridges the divide by bringing both colours together (not to mention one of the original signature colours of the suffragists, whose dreams are now being realized with the first female vice president).

“Purple is the colour of loyalty, constancy to purpose, unswerving steadfastness to a cause,” the National Woman’s Party wrote in a newsletter in 1913.

Though Jill Biden coordinated her blue Markarian coat with her husband’s blue Ralph Lauren tie, Vice President Kamala Harris served up a bipartisan message in a bright single-breasted coat and dress from Christopher John Rodgers, as did former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a grape Ralph Lauren pantsuit. And Michelle Obama, the former first lady, wore wine trousers with a coordinated turtleneck and long coat from Sergio Hudson, a young Black designer.

Masks were also part of the material culture of this inauguration. Jill Biden wore a sky blue mask that appeared custom-made to match her coat, and other members of her family chose a similar monochromatic theme. Harris opted for a shiny black number that complimented her purple outfit, one of her signature mask looks.

Many men opted for paper medical masks, but a few went for solid shades or face coverings that featured insignia. Former President George W. Bush sported a mask made by Rhoback, a company that was started by former Capitol Hill staffers.

Despite the very high fashion content of President Joe Biden’s swearing-in, which included Lady Gaga in a veritable ballgown from Schiaparelli, Ella Emhoff in a crystal-dusted tweed Miu Miu coat with a big white collar; and Jennifer Lopez in winter white Chanel, it was Sen. Bernie Sanders, not normally known for his style statements, whose choice of accessories may have had the widest effect. Specifically, Sanders’ woolly mittens, in a sort of brown and cream Himalayan sweater pattern, seemed to have charmed practically half the social media world, with commenters asking where they could buy a pair.

The mittens quickly got their own hashtag: #Berniesmittens. Even Vogue took note. Jen Ellis, a Vermont schoolteacher, claimed ownership in a tweet.

“I made Bernie’s mittens as a gift a couple of years ago,” she wrote, posting a photo of other similar creations. “They are made from repurposed wool sweaters and lined with fleece (made from recycled plastic bottles).”

In response a friend noted, “you better buy some titanium knitting-needles lol, you’ll need them, you just became the world’s most famous ‘mitten knitter’.” And thus the new administration appears to be keeping its vow to jump-start small businesses already.

"All I know is that now is a time for true patriotism. Now is the time for those who voted for this president to see the reality of what they've supported—and publicly and forcefully rebuke him and the actions of that mob," she said.

While she said the riots had raised several questions about "security, extremism, propaganda, and more", she cannot stop thinking about what the treatment and reaction from the police and government&nbsp;would have been if the rioters looked different. "There's one question I just can't shake: What if these rioters had looked like the folks who go to Ebenezer Baptist Church every Sunday? What would have been different?," she wrote.
