Michelle Obama launches #VotingSquad challenge on Instagram to encourage Americans to vote

Michelle Obama is going after President Donald Trump in a scathing new video that accuses him of “willful mismanagement” of the coronavirus crisis and of racism.

Michelle Obama slams Donald Trump over willful mismanagement of Covid-19 crisis

Michelle Obama, former FLOTUS (First Lady of the United States), has criticised the Donald Trump, US President, over the "willful mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic".

US: Former FLOTUS criticises President Trump over "willful COVID-19 mismanagement"

Former first lady of the United States Michelle Obama has accused President Donald Trump of "willful mismanagement" of the coronavirus crisis and of racism in a scathing new video four weeks before election day November 3.

Donald Trump is a "racist" president whose strategy of fearmongering, division and promoting ugly conspiracy theories could "destroy" America if he is re-elected, the former first lady said Tuesday.

In a 24-minute video offering closing arguments for Democratic White House nominee Joe Biden, Obama described Trump and his Republican allies as unfairly "stoking fears" about African Americans.

Obama noted that more Americans have died from COVID-19 than those who died in the Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Korean wars combined. To her charade, she adds that "our commander in chief, sadly, has been missing in action." She also calls on all young and Black voters to not "waste" their votes.

Trump is "morally wrong" for taking actions that intimidate voters and for "lying" about how minorities will ruin US suburbs, she said.

"What the president is doing is once again patently false, it's morally wrong, and yes, it is racist," said the 56-year-old wife of Barack Obama, the nation's first black president.

But she warned such tactics have the potential to work, particularly because Americans lack the time and energy to fact-check everything being spread online or in US media.

"Because this is a difficult time, a confusing time, and when people hear these lies and crazy conspiracies repeated over and over and over again, they don't know what to think," she said.

"And the one thing this president is really, really good at is using fear and confusion, and spreading lies to win," Obama added.

Trump has declared himself the "law and order" president, and has repeatedly slammed protesters taking on racial injustice as violent extremists.

Obama's video targets a wide range of voters. Along with speaking to "black and brown folks," she urged white Americans to imagine "the millions of folks who look like me, and fought and died and toiled as slaves and soldiers and laborers to help build this country."

"As a black woman, like the majority of those in the country, having "done everything in my power to live a life of dignity and service and honesty, the knowledge that any of my fellow Americans is more afraid of me than the chaos that we are living through right now, well that hurts," she said.

"It is a heaviness that sits on our hearts."

Obama criticised Trump's "failure" to tackle the coronavirus, his belittling US military personnel as "losers" and his devotion to "enriching himself" and wealthy cronies.

Biden, she said, offers contrasting values aimed at helping working class families, healing divisions and protecting the environment.

"Search your hearts and your conscience, and then vote for Joe Biden like your lives depend on it," she said.

Speaking on her latest episode of her Spotify podcast, Michelle said that young couple, especially when they have small children, struggle to deal with tiredness, stress and sharing roles and they give up on their relationship.

She added: “I just want to say, look, if that breaks a marriage, then Barack and I have been broken off and on, throughout our marriage, but we have a very strong marriage. And if I had given up on it, if I had walked away from it, in those tough times, then I would’ve missed all the beauty, that was there as well.”

What happened to my buddy, who’s, at the gym? It’s like, how the hell are you at the gym? You know, dude... I’ve got cabbage on my breast.”

Barack Obama blasts Trump's 'reality show' presidency; presses fight for Biden

Michelle Obama's 18-minute long speech on the first day of the Democratic National Convention was loud and clear. She wanted every American to vote out Donald Trump. The former first lady's powerful speech was widely discussed throughout the day. Apart from her speech, it was a little accessory that Obama opted to wear for the occasion that caught everyone's attention.

Obama wore a gold necklace with V-O-T-E spelled out on it. The necklace went viral almost instantly and became the top US Google search term during the last hour of the convention.

“Vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris like our lives depend on it,” Obama said while wearing a gold necklace.

Michelle Obama is known to use fashion to make a statement. Turns out the gold necklace that she wore on Monday night was by a small Los Angeles-based jewellery company called ByChari owned by Chari Cuthbert, who is African American.

Obama’s decision to promote Cuthbert is pertinent as it comes soon after a recent cover British Vogue, in which 40 activists wore clothes largely by BAME designers to urge influential people and organisations to seek out small black-owned businesses instead of white-run conglomerates that dominate the fashion industry. Obama is known to encourage small businesses and makes visual statements with her outfits and in this case jewellery.

Cuthbert, who launched ByChari in 2012, tweeted that she was “beyond honoured and humbled” that Obama wore her necklace.

Interestingly, the necklace also resonated Bruce Davidson’s photograph from the Selma March, in which the word 'Vote' was written on the forehead of a civil rights protester.

Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country: Michelle Obama

Former vice president Joe Biden will “tell the truth and trust science” if he is elected to the White House in November, former First Lady Michelle Obama said on Monday as Democrats kicked off their now-virtual convention.

With the Democratic Party poised to officially anoint the 77-year-old Biden as its presidential candidate, President Donald Trump defied coronavirus concerns and staged competing events in Wisconsin and neighboring Minnesota.

Michelle Obama was given the primetime slot on the opening night of the Democratic convention, which was to have been held over four days in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but which is now taking place almost entirely online because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

In excerpts of her remarks released ahead of her taped speech, Michelle Obama said Biden was a “terrific vice president” during the eight years he served as her husband Barack Obama’s number two.

“I know Joe. He is a profoundly decent man guided by faith,” she said.

“The future of our democracy is at stake,” he said. “The future of our planet is at stake.

“We must come together, defeat Donald Trump and elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our next president and vice president,” Sanders said. “My friends, the price of failure is just too great to imagine.”

‘Another Venezuela’

Trump flew on Air Force One meanwhile to Mankato, Minnesota, and Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and delivered remarks to supporters gathered on the airport tarmac.

Speaking in Oshkosh, Trump accused Biden and his running mate Harris of seeking to enact “crazy socialist policies.”

“This is the most dangerous election we’ve ever had,” Trump said. “It’ll be another Venezuela. This will be a very large-scale Venezuela if they win.”

“The only way we’re going to lose this election is if the election is rigged,” he said.

The Democratic convention is taking place amid a furor over Trump’s own efforts to limit mail-in voting.

Insisting without proof that it fosters fraud, Trump has threatened to block extra funding that Democrats say is urgently needed to allow the US Postal Service to process millions of ballots.

Democratic Party chairman Tom Perez said the convention would push back against Trump’s “assault on our democracy” by highlighting efforts to protect voting by mail.

“This president can’t win on the merits and so he has to cheat. And it’s shameful,” Perez told a Washington Post webcast.

Oshkosh, where Trump was speaking, is about a 90-minute drive north of the Milwaukee arena where Democrats had intended to gather in a sign of eagerness to win back Wisconsin, one of multiple Democratic strongholds which flipped to Trump in 2016.

But the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed some 170,000 people in the United States, upended election campaigning.

The Democratic convention and the Republican event, which begins on August 24, will be held virtually, without the usual roaring crowds and confetti.

“We may be physically apart, but this week Democrats are coming together from across the nation to put forth our vision for a better America,” Biden tweeted.

Live and curated content

The experimental convention format will allow speakers to address American voters unfiltered -- largely shorn of the usual overwrought stagecraft and screaming delegates.

Biden and Harris will address the convention live via videolink, while other speeches will be “a mix of live and curated content,” the campaign said.

Biden enters the week with significant but tightening poll leads over Trump, and hoping his pick of Harris -- the first woman of color on a major party’s presidential ticket -- will invigorate Democrats.

The California senator, former prosecutor and daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants is 55 and brings relatively youthful energy to the ticket.

Tuesday will see addresses from former president Bill Clinton and Jill Biden, the nominee’s wife.

On Wednesday, Barack Obama will speak, and Harris will have her spotlight moment before the convention culminates Thursday when Biden formally accepts the Democratic nomination and delivers his acceptance speech.

He is a profoundly decent man guided by faith,” she said. “He knows what it takes to rescue an economy, beat back a pandemic and lead our country,” the former First Lady said. “He will tell the truth, and trust science,” she said in a jab at Trump, who has been accused of repeatedly ignoring the advice of his scientific advisers on how to deal with the Covid-19 epidemic. “He will make smart plans and manage a good team,” Obama said. “And he will govern as someone who’s lived a life that the rest of us can recognize.” Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who challenged Biden for the nomination from the progressive left, was also scheduled to address the convention, which is being live-streamed. “This election is the most important in the modern history of this country,” Sanders said in remarks released ahead of his appearance. “The future of our democracy is at stake,” he said. “The future of our planet is at stake. “We must come together, defeat Donald Trump and elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our next president and vice president,” Sanders said. “My friends, the price of failure is just too great to imagine.” ‘Another Venezuela’ Trump flew on Air Force One meanwhile to Mankato, Minnesota, and Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and delivered remarks to supporters gathered on the airport tarmac. Speaking in Oshkosh, Trump accused Biden and his running mate Harris of seeking to enact “crazy socialist policies.” “This is the most dangerous election we’ve ever had,” Trump said. “It’ll be another Venezuela. This will be a very large-scale Venezuela if they win.” “The only way we’re going to lose this election is if the election is rigged,” he said. Live and curated content The experimental convention format will allow speakers to address American voters unfiltered -- largely shorn of the usual overwrought stagecraft and screaming delegates.

Obama-Biden administration most corrupt in history, Trump attacks Michelle Obama

Former First Lady Michelle Obama said she is suffering from "low-grade depression" from coronavirus quarantine, racial strife in the United States and the "hypocrisy" of the Trump administration. Obama made the remarks in the latest episode of "The Michelle Obama Podcast" released on Spotify on Wednesday.

"I'm waking up in the middle of the night because I'm worrying about something or there's a heaviness," the 56-year-old former First Lady said. "I try to make sure I get a workout in, although there have been periods throughout this quarantine, where I just have felt too low," she said.

Obama said she has been going through "those emotional highs and lows that I think everybody feels, where you just don't feel yourself...These are not, they are not fulfilling times, spiritually," she said. "I know that I am dealing with some form of low-grade depression. Not just because of the quarantine, but because of the racial strife, and just seeing this administration, watching the hypocrisy of it, day in and day out, is dispiriting."

Michelle Obama and Barack Obama, America's first black president, took up residence in Washington after he left the White House in January 2017.

She also said it is "exhausting" to be "waking up to yet another story of a black man or a black person somehow being dehumanized, or hurt, or killed, or falsely accused of something...And it has led to a weight that I haven't felt in my life, in a while," she said.

Obama said it was important to remember that "we've been through tough times in this nation" before.

"We are in a unique moment in history," she said. "We are living through something that no one in our lifetimes has lived through."

Michelle Obama says she is suffering from 'low-grade depression'

The former First Lady Michelle Obama shared a sneak peek into her first episode of the Spotify podcast titled ‘The Michelle Obama Podcast’ with husband Barack Obama as the first featured guest.

Sharing it on Instagram, Michelle wrote, “You’ll also hear from many of my girlfriends, the women who’ve always been there with a shoulder to lean on, a perspective to think about, or simply an open line to vent to. In this time of social distancing, it’s more important than ever to invest in the relationships that make us who we are.”

In the first episode of the podcast, the Obamas will be talking about how their neighbours helped raise them growing up and how this helped them understand the importance of contributing to their wider communities.

“That was a really common theme,” former President Obama said in an exclusive clip from the episode. “Ms. Smith down the street, she’d see me messing up. She’d scold me … Then when I got home, I might get whooped because Ms. Smith would have called my mom.”

In this time of social distancing, it’s more important than ever to invest in the relationships that make us who we are.” In the first episode of the podcast, the Obamas will be talking about how their neighbours helped raise them growing up and how this helped them understand the importance of contributing to their wider communities. “That was a really common theme,” former President Obama said in an exclusive clip from the episode. “Ms. Smith down the street, she’d see me messing up. She’d scold me … Then when I got home, I might get whooped because Ms. Smith would have called my mom.” View this post on Instagram Can’t wait for you to hear the first episode of The #MichelleObamaPodcast!
Michelle Obama just teased the trailer of her upcoming Netflix film on her social media profile and it looks amazing. Titled ‘Becoming’, the docu film is named after her 2018 memoir that recounts some important chapters in her life, including her time in the White House. It also moves beyond the memoir and follows her on the 34-city tour she went on to promote the book.

Directed by Nadia Hallgren, Michelle Obama’s documentary film comes at a time when the world is dealing with coronavirus pandemic with most people holed up in their homes amid lockdowns. In fact, Michelle recently hinted that it was the reason why they sped up the process of finishing the project so that people had time to stream it.

Sharing the trailer Michelle wrote, "I’m thrilled to give you a sneak peek of BECOMING before it premieres on Netflix on May 6. Top 5 Hollywood news today: Michelle Obama Netflix docu, 'We Are One' online film fest

You can now get up close and personal with former first lady Michelle Obama as Netflix announced a new original documentary on her that is slated to release on May 6.

Titled ‘Becoming’, named after her book, the documentary will follow Michelle Obama on her 34-city tour to promote the book and will offer an “intimate” look at her life.

The Netflix film is directed by Nadia Hallgren, who recently made the documentary short ‘After Maria’. The film looked at the effect of Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rican families.

On the news, Michelle Obama said, “It’s hard these days to feel grounded or hopeful, but I hope that like me, you’ll find joy and a bit of respite in what Nadia has made. Because she’s a rare talent, someone whose intelligence and compassion for others comes through in every frame she shoots. Most importantly, she understands the meaning of community, the power of community, and her work is magically able to depict it.”

Shooting the documentary was challenging for Nadia Hallgren who said, “I intended on making a film about her current experience – where she is in this moment and the way she’s reflecting on the entirety of her life, not just her years in the White House.”

Most importantly, she understands the meaning of community, the power of community, and her work is magically able to depict it.” Shooting the documentary was challenging for Nadia Hallgren who said, “I intended on making a film about her current experience – where she is in this moment and the way she’s reflecting on the entirety of her life, not just her years in the White House.” Michelle Obama’s memoir ‘Becoming’ became an instant bestseller as it released in 2018.
Self-Isolation can be a boring and TV chat host Ellen Degeneres has made it pretty obvious on social media that she is not a fan of this new lifestyle that the world has adopted amid coronavirus.

The chat show host recently called up friend and former US first lady Michelle Obama for a five minute chat and asked how the Obamas are spending time in self-quarantine.

Michelle revealed that the couple's two daughters Sasha and Malia are also back home as their colleges have shifted to online classes.

" “We’re just trying to structure our days. Everybody’s home, the girls are back because colleges are now online. They’re off in their respective rooms doing their online classes. I think Barack is, I don’t know where he is. He was on the phone on a conference call,” she said.

“We’re just trying to keep a routine going, but we’ve also got a little Netflix and chillin’ happening.”

Ellen Degeneres calls up Michelle Obama to ask how her quarantined life is going

The Barack and Michelle Obama-produced film 'American Factory' snagged an Oscar on Sunday for best documentary -- a win for Netflix, which backed the story of a manufacturing plant in the US Midwest reopened by a Chinese billionaire.

The film charts a Rust Belt community's journey from optimism at the giant plant's reopening, which brought back vital jobs, towards creeping anger and disillusionment, as the Chinese management imposed strict, exhausting demands on workers -- and sacked those who did not comply.

"Our film is from Ohio and China," director Julia Reichert said. "But it really could be from anywhere that people put on a uniform, punch a clock, trying to make their families have a better life."

"Working people have it harder and harder these days, and we believe that things will get better when workers of the world unite," she said in accepting her statuette.

Co-directed by Reichert and Steven Bognar, the film is an all-access look at how both American and Chinese workers, from blue-collar to management, had their lives transformed by powerful global economic forces.

The story was moving enough to catch notice from none other than the Obamas.

The former first couple acquired "American Factory" early last year at the Sundance Film Festival, where it had won the directing award.

It was released on Netflix in August 2019 as the first offering from the former first couple's Higher Ground Productions company.
The film's co-producer and the factory's chairman were unable to leave China for the ceremony, due to White House restrictions on travel over the coronavirus panic.

"That inconvenience pales when compared to people losing their lives, suffering because of this virus," co-director Bognar said backstage.

The Obamas congratulated Reichert and Bognar for their win Sunday, with the former president calling the film "a complex, moving story about the very human consequences of wrenching economic change."

"Glad to see two talented and downright good people take home the Oscar for Higher Ground's first release," he tweeted.

One of the most loved couples in the world, Barack and Michelle Obama completed 27 years of blissful married life recently and marked the occasion by sharing heartwarming messages for each other.
One of the most loved couples in the world, Barack and Michelle Obama completed 27 years of blissful married life recently and marked the occasion by sharing heartwarming messages for each other. The former US president and first lady, who completed 27 years together on Thursday, are still `feeling the magic` that brought them together. Barack beat his wife to the punch by posting a photo featuring the couple, who can be seen embracing each other and looking at a sunset together. In the still, the two are photographed from behind and are seen looking at the sunset while Michelle has her arms wrapped around her husband and her head resting on his shoulder. The former president quoted a line from The Beatles song `Getting Better`, writing, "Like the Beatles said: It`s getting better all the time. Thanks, babe, for 27 amazing years!"
