India rode on a solid 121-run opening stand between captain Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (58) before Virat Kohli (122 not out) and KL Rahul (with an unbeaten 111) propelled India to a mammoth 356 for 2 in 50 overs. In reply, Kuldeep Yadav stole the show with a 5 for 25 to dismiss Pakistan for a paltry 128 in 32 overs.

After India's terrific display versus Pakistan, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar lauded Kuldeep and labelled him as the 'best spinner in town'. Akhtar was quick to point out that he failed to understand why the wily spinner was out of the Indian team across formats in the last few years.&nbsp;

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Akhtar said, “I could not understand why Kuldeep was out of the team in the first place. He showed that he’s the best spinner in town. Now India and Pakistan should meet in the final, where it will be a battle of attitude and nerves."

The former Pakistani pacer further added, “It was a well-deserved win for India, they played really well. What I liked the most was the attitude the Indian bowlers came out with. They wanted to take wickets and wrap the contest up quickly. That was a very encouraging sign for me as a fast bowler."

After the match, Kuldeep told the broadcasters, "Very happy at the moment. It is the consistency from the last one and half years, I have got my rhythm back and am enjoying my bowling. It is good to get five wickets, I am just thinking about bowling on a good length. It is amazing to get 5 wickets in ODIs or Tests. I have my plans when playing against the top sides. I have played against them (Pakistan) in 2019 and know their strengths, but I bowled to my strengths. I am focusing on bowling wicket to wicket, good sides try to sweep or slog sweep or sweep and give me a chance to get wickets."

It is to be noted that the 28-year-old Kuldeep is India's leading wicket-taker in ODIs in 2023, with 27 wickets after his splendid show versus Pakistan. He remains a vital cog for India in the remainder of Asia Cup and the upcoming ODI World Cup, which kicks off on October 05 in India.

The left-arm unorthodox spinner is the highest wicket-taker for India this year with 23 wickets in 12 matches and is on the right course to seal his place in the XI for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India later. But, his road to the top was full of obstacles, and former cricketer and selector Sunil Joshi reflected on it.

Following a stellar start to his international career in 2017, Kuldeep picked two ODI hat-tricks in such a short span and, alongside Yuzvendra Chahal, wreaked havoc. All was going well until they came across Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy in the 2019 World Cup.&nbsp;

That hammering against England broke this pair up - fondly known as Kul-Cha (among Indian fans) as they played only three matches together afterwards.

Later, Kuldeep joining Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL didn’t do any good to his confidence as he kept leaking runs and even got benched for most matches afterwards.

Under Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri, he didn’t find a place in the team and was out seeking assistance.&nbsp;

His search ended with Sunil Joshi (part of the selection committee then), who brought him under his wings at his academy and worked on a few technicalities that eventually helped him get better with time and taste success.

“I was part of the selection committee when Kuldeep Yadav got dropped. Who came to the rescue? None of the coaching staff, I was the one who got his delivery stride shorter, front arm better, arm speed better, got him to rip more revolutions on the ball,” Sunil Joshi told The Indian Express.

“Suddenly, everybody is talking about Kuldeep Yadav. Ravi Shastri asked Sunil, what have you done with Kuldeep? I said, ‘Ravi bhai, I have not done anything special. These are the simple things that a bowling coach should be doing. If you look at Kuldeep 2.0, his front arm is nice toward the target, his bowling arm is towards the target; he is running towards the target. Shorter stride, there is a free follow through, and he has got quicker through the air. You look at the way he is bowling now,” Joshi added.

<h2>Kuldeep getting closer to his best version</h2>

The left-armer is having the time of his life in international cricket. After leading the spin-bowling chart during the three-match ODIs against West Indies, with seven wickets in three games, including a four-wicket haul in the first ODI, Kuldeep aims to deliver in the shortest format.&nbsp;

Even in the first T20I that India lost by four runs, Kuldeep returned with one wicket in four overs, going for just 20 runs.&nbsp;

With more matches left and looking at the packed calendar ahead, Kuldeep is sure to add more wickets to his tally.

"We're very relaxed," Kuldeep said after picking Man of the Match award in the first ODI. "We know the combination matters a lot. Sometimes he plays, sometimes I play, and our understanding is very good. We're very normal.

The T20 specialist thumped a few boundaries but got out on 19, plumb in front of left-armer Gudakesh Motie. Pandya departed soon as Kishan completed his fourth ODI fifty, bringing India closer to the win.

The attacking batter became Motie’s second scalp of the day, while Yannic Cariah picked Thakur on just one to reduce India to 97 for five at one stage.

Rohit, perhaps for the first time in ODIs, came to bat at number seven and, with Jadeja (16 off 21), helped India win the match with five wickets in hand.

With this, India won their second of the three matches on Caribbean soil on this tour.&nbsp;

Opting to bowl first, David Warner-led DC restricted RCB for 174 for 6 with Mitchell Marsh (2 for 18) and Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 23) being the top performer with the ball. In reply, DC only managed 151 for 9 to remain winless in the tournament after five games and are languishing at the bottom.

After the game, many expected DC's head coach Ricky Ponting -- former Australian captain -- to give a earful to his players. Kuldeep has so far accounted for four scalps in five games. Further, Ponting went on to laud Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel and Mitchell Marsh before mentioning where DC can improve as a unit.&nbsp;

He opined, "Lalit, I thought you did a good job with the ball as well buddy. Two sixes in that one over otherwise the reason we bought you in today was to bowl those hard overs in the Powerplay, just outside it, and you did a great job as well. Axar you were also great. 1/25 off three and our golden boy Mitchell Marsh, who picks up 2/18 of his couple overs as well. So well done."

Punter added, "Fielding was good. But it was good without being great. Whenever we take the field next time, I want to take the fielding from being good to great. I want you to go about your own preparations, look at your own vision, work on your own game plan and play it your way. One thing I said about the game, I know you keep on working hard. Keep doing all the right things, then eventually it's going to change. That's the only way we will be able to go forward boys – simple, altogether, as a group, work hard together for each other to turn things around."

Delhi raced to victory in 10.3 overs after Prithvi Shaw (41 off 20 balls) and David Warner (60 not out off 30 balls) shared 83 runs for the opening wicket. The game was in doubt with Delhi reporting the sixth COVID case in their camp but the BCCI decided to go ahead after players returned negative tests following two rounds of testing in the morning.
