As Kashmir is hosting the G20 summit for the first time ever, the Department of Handicraft in the Indian Union Territory has put up an exhibition at the G20 meeting venue in Srinagar. The government says it’s an opportunity for the artisans and craftsmen of the Kashmir Valley to showcase their talent at the international level.&nbsp;

Dozens of stalls have been put up at the Sheri Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) lawns in Srinagar showcasing Kashmiri crafts such as Pashmina shawls, silk carpets, wood carving, paper mache, copper utensils and organic foods. Not only has the Department of Handicraft put up the stalls but also brought in artisans of various arts to demonstrate the making of these products in front of the delegates visiting the Valley.&nbsp;

“For the artisan community of the Kashmir Valley, It's a proud moment for all of us. These events open the international market for us. We hope that our crafts of Kashmir get highlighted in events like these. The government should organise much more events like these in the Valley. It's a plus point for all Kashmiri craft. Holding G20 here and giving us an opportunity to display our craft, we will reach every country around the world,” said Shahnawaz Ahmad, Silk Carpet Expert.&nbsp;

The artisans feel that international events like these need to be organised every month which will help the craftsmen to sell the products to international customers and holding such events would draw attention from across the world to the local crafts of Kashmir Valley.&nbsp;

"We are hopeful and extremely lucky that G20 is being organised here. People from all across the world are coming to the Valley, and our art would be on display for them. We are hopeful that our art and craft will impress them, and will help us market our products internationally. It will help with a lot of employment in the valley. It will benefit us a lot and I am hopeful we will get a lot of promotion by this event,"&nbsp;said Maqbool Jan, papier mache artist.&nbsp;

The skill development department of the Kashmir Valley has over seven lakh women artisans associated with it. A dozen stalls have been put up at the SKICC venue by these women,&nbsp;including the women from rural areas of the Valley. The department sees this as an opportunity for these women to sell their products to international buyers.&nbsp;

"This is for the first time, this kind of event is happening in India since 1947, and this is also a big opportunity for the women who are associated with us. We have around seven lakh women associated with our mission, they will be encouraged by this kind of event and to showcase their products. This will give the women a feel of how to sell their products via e-commerce and this event will help them market the products. We have 15 women here who will share their experiences and will inspire other women too,"&nbsp;said Riyaz Beg, Mission Director, Rural Livelihood Mission.&nbsp;

Kashmiri artisans and craftsmen would have many interactions with the delegates during the G20 meeting in Srinagar.&nbsp;

With the Holy month of Ramadan coming to an end, Kashmir Valley has witnessed the most peaceful Ramadan in the last three decades. Since the start of the insurgency in the Union territory, the incidents of violence in the Kashmir Valley have been lowest during this Ramadan.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police say no major incident of violence or Law and Order has taken place across the Kashmir Valley in the last month.

''It was the most peaceful Ramadan this year. We saw no incidents of Violence in the Kashmir Valley during this holy month. Neither law and order nor any major encounter took place during this month, '' said Vijay Kumar, ADGP, Kashmir.&nbsp;

According to data provided by security forces, In 2022 around 19 terrorists were killed in multiple operations in the Kashmir Valley during the month of Ramadan. There was also a series of attacks on civilians which included members of the minority community, Kashmiri Pandits in the month of Ramdhan.&nbsp;

The Ramadan of 2021 was more brutal and violent, as the number of casualties were much higher. Over 20 terrorists were killed in the over a dozen anti-terror operations in the Valley.&nbsp;

With peace prevailing in the Valley, the locals of the Union territory are happy. The restrictions on the Major mosques, including the Jamia Masjid Srinagar, were lifted this Ramadan and people were able to offer Shab-e-Qadr prayers after a gap of three long years in the mosque.&nbsp;

''It's God's grace that no violence took place during the month of Ramadan, the real message of Islam is about peace, Islam is does not teach us any violence. The day we learn Islamic teachings properly and learn humanity. We are so grateful, Islam never preaches violence, and I am happy we had a peaceful Ramadan, '' said Bashir Ahmad, Local.&nbsp;

However, the Political parties in the Kashmir Valley are questioning normalcy. Political leaders are saying that if there is peace, then what is stopping the government from holding elections in the Valley. They say the government of India should take advantage of this peace and begin the democratic process. They believe that a popular government in Jammu and Kashmir can make things better.&nbsp;

''Ramzan Sharif is one where such things don't happen, people are busy in prayers and asking god to forgive for their sins. If the government of India says everything is alright here, why don't they hold elections? Why not? If it's peaceful, then let's hold an election. What are they waiting for?, '' said Farooq Abdullah, Former Chief Minister of JK and Member of Parliament.&nbsp;

In 2018, the popular government led by BJP and PDP ordered the suspension of anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the month of Ramadan. However, the terror groups did not stop and continued their attacks. An army soldier was kidnapped and later killed on Eid.&nbsp;

The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha said that “Kashmir division is witnessing ‘Yellow Revolution’ with oilseed crops registering significant growth. There will be additional opportunities for oil extraction and value addition and therefore more entrepreneurial opportunities for people.”

The Lt. Governor Sinha highlighted the efforts of the UT Government to realize the true growth potential of Jammu Kashmir and lauded the efforts of progressive farming and improving agricultural productivity and encouraging the adoption of new agriculture techniques.

For the first time in three decades, the Jammu and Kashmir police claim&nbsp;that the number of active terrorists in the valley has been brought down to 28. The security forces say only 28 local terrorists are active in Kashmir Valley, which is an all-time low since the start of insurgency.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police along with other security agencies have successfully managed to bring down the number of terrorists drastically across the Kashmir region. The insurgency started in the early 1990's and since then the numbers have always been in hundreds, and now the J&amp;K Police claim&nbsp;that the number of active terrorists has been brought down to 28.&nbsp;

"I feel happy to inform you that the number of local active terrorists has now come down to an all-time low of 28, and we will bring it further down in coming days. All those who have given shelter to terrorists or supported them in the past, action will be taken against them according to law,'' said Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.&nbsp;

The Police, National Investigation Agency, State Investigation Agency have intensified the anti-terror operations across the Kashmir Valley to break the terror ecosystems.

“Ecosystem of terrorists is being destroyed at every level. If an encounter took place in any residential house and the house owners were found harbouring terrorists, we would arrest and book them in UAPA, at the same time we would seize those properties. The number of such properties are going up as we initiate action in those encounter cases too which happened in the last five years," said ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.&nbsp;

Few months ago, the police had said that the number of terrorists had come down to two digits and stands at 90. And now after joint action by Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, paramilitary forces and central, state agencies like NIA, ED, SIA, the number of terrorists has&nbsp;fallen to an all time low of 28.

Besides neutralising and arresting the active terrorists,&nbsp;the security forces have also succeeded in curbing new recruitment of local terrorists, which has helped in bringing down the numbers.&nbsp;

''It's definitely beautiful and we had read in our schools about these Mughal gardens, a picture was formed in our heads of how it will be. I have visited the Pinjore&nbsp;Gardens in Chandigarh&nbsp;which is inspired by this, but it's nowhere comparable to this, this is so much beautiful. The calm and crisp air, and autumn is very beautiful,'' said Surbhi, a tourist from&nbsp;Delhi.&nbsp;

The government has also announced special festivals for the tourists coming to the Valley during the&nbsp;autumn&nbsp;season.&nbsp;

"As compared to last year, the production this year is twice of what it was the previous year. Adequate rain at the proper time helped&nbsp;and that's why we had the best production. This is much better than the previous year. The GI tag is good for us, and will benefit us. It makes sure the purest Kashmiri saffron is sold in the market,'' said Farhad, a saffron farmer.&nbsp;

There is so much to be picked as well. This whole place is dependent on saffron as we grow most of the saffron from the Kashmir region," said Nasir Hamid, another saffron farmer.&nbsp;

"GI tagging is beneficial for us, but we have seen a lot of non-Kashmiri products being sold across India on Kashmir name and that needs to be stopped. Although GI tagging has not reached ground level farmers. The tourists visit our farms, and they see with their own eyes how we grow saffron. This also makes sure they believe the authenticity of the saffron from here. The world's best saffron is grown in the Kashmir valley and demand for it has been good," he added.&nbsp;

The tourists are appreciative of the farmers growing saffron in the valley. It is a unique experience for them to see the saffron farms.

''It is a unique experience, we come from Pune&nbsp;and don't get to see all this. Saffron is expensive and seeing its farming was a great experience. Kashmiri saffron is the best and is known all over the world. It provides great fragrance and taste to dishes," said Vikrant, a tourist.&nbsp;

With improvement in the security situation in the Kashmir Valley, the Indian Navy has revived the Naval training for National Cadets Corps (NCC) after a gap of 33 years. Over 100 cadets of the NCC attended the training on the Manasbal Lake in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district.&nbsp;

The first training activity has been organised for 100 senior NCC cadets, boys and girls, from all districts of the Union territory. The camp will be running till September 26 and prepare the cadets for the forthcoming national level NCC camp at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh commencing on October 2.&nbsp;

''It's a great opportunity for us to be a part of this camp. Due to security reasons, these camps were not held in the Kashmir valley but now they have been restarted and we will get to learn a lot. I want to join the Indian Navy and that's why I have joined NCC,'' said Kiran Chaudhary, a cadet.

In the last three decades, the training was mostly provided to these cadets at Nagrota and Mansar lake in the Jammu region due to terrorist activities, causing huge inconvenience to the cadets from Kashmir Valley.&nbsp;

Earlier Jammu and Kashmir Police had claimed that terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit Zubair Sofi and Yawar Dar were trapped in the cordon. They were involved in the killing of Hindu teacher Rajni Bala in Kulgam.&nbsp;

This is the seventh encounter in the last six days in the Kashmir Valley. Security forces have intensified the anti-terror operation across Kashmir Valley. Security has been put on high alert ahead of the Amarnath Yatra.&nbsp;

According to Jammu and Kashmir police, 106 terrorists have been killed in 65 encounters in the Valley this year. Authorities also revealed that 30 foreign terrorists were among the killed this year and 16 security personnel and 17 civilians to have lost their lives in various terror incidents.&nbsp;

Two operations underway in Kashmir Valley, one terrorist killed in Kulgam

The current security situation in the valley due to the target killings is impacting the Mela Kheer Bhawani annual celebration. Although all the preparations for the annual festival have been done by the government, the mood at the temple is sombre and not much activity is seen in the premises.&nbsp;

The Kashmiri Pandit community in various parts of South Kashmir have decided to boycott the festival. They have sent out letters to the authorities that they will boycott the annual Kheer Bhawani Yatra on the pretext that they are being attacked and they don't feel safe to attend the annual celebrations.&nbsp;

''We will not participate in the Mata Kheer Bhawani annual celebrations, The sacrifice that our brothers and sisters have given and the atmosphere we are living in, the whole community is disturbed, and we are in mourning and we condemn these killings and have decided not to go,'' said&nbsp;Rekha Pandita.

The Kashmiri Pandit community has asked authorities not to make transport arrangements for them as they would not attend till their demands are fulfilled.&nbsp;

''If I have security issues going to work, how can I go to Mata Kheer Bhawani? We have decided that none of us will attend, and we have told them (Government) that they should not send the buses for us. We are asking the government to attach us till the condition improves in the valley. We are not asking for relocation,'' said Sanjay Kaul, a Kashmiri Pandit.&nbsp;

It's just two days left for the annual festival and generally the temple would be visited by thousands of devotees but the mood at the temple is very sombre and not many people could be seen around the temple premises. The people visiting say ''There is no doubt that due to the current situation, the numbers have come down of the devotees visiting the temple. Every year people used to come two days before the festival and Puja's would be held, there used to be a rush all around. But due to the recent killings, the Yatris have decided to cancel. We will get to see how many come in the next two days. Cancellations have been done by many but real positions of how many will come will be known tomorrow. All the arrangements have been done. All security measures have been taken too'' said VeerJi Raina, a Kashmiri Pandit.&nbsp;

Some of the devotees are extremely sad to see such low turnout of devotees at the temple. ``We had booked but we also were in doubt whether we should come or not, but we did. But after coming here our hearts are sad, our heart is crying, there used to be so much rush these days and right now it is completely empty. The recent killings have affected the arrival of devotees. '' said Anjali, a&nbsp;Kashmiri Pandit.&nbsp;

The government on the other hand have made full arrangements including three tier security systems in place. The health department as well as other local concerned departments have also been placed in the temple premises to help the devotees coming for the annual festival.&nbsp;

''All our teams have been deployed here and all arrangements have been made. Lighting, tents etc are completely in place. Our preparations are in full swing, and we ask everyone to participate in these celebrations like it used to be. We will make it better than previous years.'' Shyambir, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal.&nbsp;

And now it is to be seen whether devotees from across the country would turn up for the annual celebrations or the fear of target killings in the valley will have an impact on these celebrations.&nbsp;

They have sent out letters to the authorities that they will boycott the annual Kheer Bhawani Yatra on the pretext that they are being attacked and they don't feel safe to attend the annual celebrations. ''We will not participate in the Mata Kheer Bhawani annual celebrations, The sacrifice that our brothers and sisters have given and the atmosphere we are living in, the whole community is disturbed, and we are in mourning and we condemn these killings and have decided not to go,'' said Rekha Pandita. The Kashmiri Pandit community has asked authorities not to make transport arrangements for them as they would not attend till their demands are fulfilled. Every year people used to come two days before the festival and Puja's would be held, there used to be a rush all around. But due to the recent killings, the Yatris have decided to cancel. We will get to see how many come in the next two days. Cancellations have been done by many but real positions of how many will come will be known tomorrow. All the arrangements have been done. All security measures have been taken too'' said VeerJi Raina, a Kashmiri Pandit. Some of the devotees are extremely sad to see such low turnout of devotees at the temple. ``We had booked but we also were in doubt whether we should come or not, but we did. But after coming here our hearts are sad, our heart is crying, there used to be so much rush these days and right now it is completely empty. The recent killings have affected the arrival of devotees. '' said Anjali, a Kashmiri Pandit. Kumar belonged to the Rajasthan state of India. He was posted with the Ellaquai Dehati Bank at Areh Mohanpora in Kulgam district for the last 3 years.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police released CCTV footage of the incident, in which terrorists can be seen entering the bank premises and shooting the bank manager from a point-blank range with a pistol.&nbsp;

"Terrorists fired upon a bank employee (manager) at Ellaqie Dehati Bank at Areh Mohanpora village in Kulgam district. He received grievous gunshot injuries in this terror incident. He is a resident of Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. Area cordoned off"' said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;

The incident happened just two days after the killing of a Hindu schoolteacher in the same district of Kulgam. A schoolteacher was shot dead by terrorists in the Gopalpora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on May 31.&nbsp;

The teacher was identified as Rajni Bala and was shot dead right outside the Government high school, Gopalpora. Rajni Bala was a migrant Hindu scheduled caste and a teacher by profession and was posted in Kulgam in 2017.&nbsp;

Rajni’s husband had dropped her on the main road that day and as she entered the lane, two terrorists shot her from a close range with a pistol. The locals had rushed to the spot and taken her to hospital, but she didn't make it.&nbsp;

The local news agencies have said that the terror outfit, The resistance Front 'TRF' has claimed the responsibility for the attack. The Political parties in the valley have condemned the attack on the Bank Manager.&nbsp;

"So very sorry to hear about the targeted killing of Vijay Kumar. Tweeting to condemn an attack and condole a death are becoming a mind-numbingly regular thing. It’s heart-breaking to see families destroyed like this," said Omar Abdullah, Former CM of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

On May 25, Famous Kashmiri television, and social media actress Ambreen Bhat was killed by terrorists right outside her house. Her 10-year-old nephew had sustained bullet injuries as well. Ambreen was associated with TV for over 18 years, and she was the lone bread earner of the house. Her Father kept saying that Ambreen was his son during her funeral. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had said that three Lashkar terrorists were involved in the killing on Ambreen. She was shot at from a close range with a pistol.&nbsp;

On May 12, a Kashmiri Pandit, Rahul Bhat was shot dead by terrorists inside his Tehsil office. Rahul was an employee of the revenue department in Kashmir. He had been given a job under the PM package for the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley. Police said that Rahul was shot at by 02 terrorists using pistols for the crime.

The Government in a meeting yesterday decided that all the non-locals and minority community employees will be posted in secure locations in the Valley. However, the Kashmir Pandit community has been demanding that they should be shifted to the Jammu region till the condition in the valley becomes conducive.&nbsp;

The central government is claiming that everything is alright in Jammu and Kashmir, which is far from the truth. Innocent People are being killed on a daily basis here. Unfortunately, central government and BJP are seeing J&amp;K through the prism of security and Muslim majority state," said Mehbooba Mufti.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir police earlier said that they killed both the terrorists involved in the killing of actress Ambreen Bhat.&nbsp;

The duo has been identified as Patlashwar Kumar, son of Joko Chowdary of Bihar, who has a right arm injury, and Joko Chowdary, son of Thaugh Chowdary of Bihar, who has injuries to the right arm and right leg.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir's former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, condemned the attack and said senseless violence does not yield anything.&nbsp;

"Condemn the attack on CRPF personnel in Maisuma this afternoon. This senseless violence doesn't yield anything apart from misery for the innocent families of those killed. My condolences to the family and prayers for the injured, "said Mehbooba Mufti, former CM of J&amp;K.&nbsp;

"We launched joint operations at 4-5 locations last night. So far two terrorists of JeM including one Pakistani killed in Pulwama, one terrorist of LeT killed each in Ganderbal &amp; Handwara. Encounters over in Handwara &amp; Pulwama. Also arrested 01 terrorist alive," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;

The first encounter took place in Chewaklan Village of Pulwama district in South Kashmir. Two terrorists were killed by the security forces at the encounter site. Both the terrorists belonged to Jaish Outfit. One of them is said to be a Pakistani terrorist. The operation has been called off.&nbsp;

The second Encounter started in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir. In Ganderbal, one terrorist belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit was killed in the gunfight.

The third encounter broke out at the Rajwar area of Handwara district in north Kashmir. One terrorist belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba has been killed in the gunfight. Security forces have called off the operation at the encounter site.&nbsp;

On Thursday, three terrorists were killed in two operations in the Kashmir valley. Two of them were killed in south Kashmir's Pulwama district while one of the terrorists was killed in Hazratbal area of Srinagar. All of them were said to be of LeT outfit.&nbsp;

So far, security forces have killed 35 terrorists in the year 2022. This includes 9 top Pakistani terrorists. Around 16 terrorists have been arrested alive by the forces.&nbsp;

The operation at Ganderbal still continues.&nbsp;
