In an audacious attempt to go to Seoul, three 13-year-old Tamil Nadu students sought to meet their favorite members of the BTS. The Korean pop group Bangtan Boys, or BTS, has a sizable fan base among young people. Three teenage ladies from Tamil Nadu considered traveling to Seoul, the capital of South Korea, as a result of their popularity. They eventually gave up on their quest and were found in Vellore, a city in their home state, despite having meticulous plans to travel without a passport and with little money.

In the video, Jin said, “Hello everyone, this is Jin of BTS. I won’t be a civilian by the time the video is out. But I am here in front of the camera because I wanted to leave you something, even if it is just leaving a message."</p>

<p>"Whenever I am available I wish to share these videos with you. I may not be by your side, but I’ll go looking for you soon, if you just wait a little. I’ll be back soon. That’s all for today. <p>Other members -- RM, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook -- will also join the army in due course of time. The issue is coming sharply into focus with the oldest member of the band, Jin, turning 30 next year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Under a 2019 revision of the law, globally recognised K-pop stars were allowed to put off their service until 30. Military service is hugely controversial in South Korea, where all able-bodied men aged between 18 and 28 must fulfil their duties as part of efforts to defend against nuclear-armed North Korea.</p>

<p>Over the years, some categories have won exemptions - either allowed to put off service or to do shorter service - including Olympics and Asian Games medal winners and classical musicians and dancers who win top prizes at certain competitions.</p>

<p>Parliament is now debating a bill that would shorten military service for K-pop stars. Speaking at the parliamentary session, Defence Minister Lee Jong-sup said that by allowing BTS to continue performing, the military could serve national interests without affecting the already shrinking pool of personnel resources due to low birth rates.</p>

<p>BTS'&nbsp;management, Big Hit, did not respond to a request for comment.</p>

<p>"Even if they join the military, there would be a way to give them a chance to practise and perform together if there are scheduled concerts abroad," Lee said.</p>

<p>Dedication and hard work always pay off. Shreya Lenka, 18, from India’s steel city of Rourkela, Odisha, has made history by becoming the fifth member of the popular South Korean pop band Blackswan. But achieving the dream was not easy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>WION had a chance to speak to the rising Asian star, where the young artist spoke&nbsp;about her aspirations and how she was able to crack this once in a lifetime opportunity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Shreya, who is trained in the Odissi dance form, said she could not express in words her happiness on being chosen as the first Indian woman member of a K-Pop band.</p>

<p>Adding that it was her childhood dream to be an artist, Shreya said, "I wanted to represent India and now this has happened, so I feel like, Yes, I did it."</p>

<p>Shreya became a social media sensation and has been trending ever since the announcement was made.&nbsp;Her family and relatives have been expressing joy and pride about her achievement through posts on social media. The newest K-Pop star says that her family and friends' reaction is "priceless".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"My family and friends' reaction was really precious to me because I always wanted to hear those things.&nbsp;And when they say that they are proud of me, it's kind of heart-touching."</p>

<p>Praising the K-Pop group Blackswan as "unique and different," Shreya said that the unique thing about the band is that each member’s uniqueness is promoted and has no discrimination.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Blackswan is a group formed not on the basis of colour, nationality or age, but on talent."</p>

<p>Shreya also acknowledges how learning classical dance was a difficult journey for her and how her father has been very supportive of her dreams.</p>

<p>"As a kid when I used to dance, people around me appreciated and said that I could be good at dancing. It was then when my father took me to Odissi classes."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The singer recalled how tough it was for her family, saying, "My father tried his best to give me everything that he could."</p>

<p>"I and my father used to travel long distances on Saturdays and Sundays for the dance classes," added Shreya.&nbsp;<br />
The singer has been trained in Odissi for five years.</p>

<p>Lenka, who is currently training with the Blackswan group, said that since joining the band, she has become more "self-dependent, focused and determined." Being a part of the band, the singer has learnt that patience can be rewarding.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was a night to remember for BTS fans as the K pop group performed in Los Angeles, their third concert ‘Permission to Dance’. Interestingly, all members including RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook did something quirky to make it a memorable night for their fans.&nbsp;</p>

<p>What definitely stood out was that BTS member V sported the Squid Game outfit -- pink jumpsuit along with a black face mask worn by guards in the Netflix show. He performed through the night in that outfit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another member, Jin, was also seen trying on the black mask. In their last concert, Jin had channelled Squid Game’s Younghee doll. He was seen in two pigtails and while others played games like Red Light, Green Light - he acted as the doll.&nbsp;</p>

The absence of even just one member feels huge for us, so all the members including SUGA himself are hoping that he gets better quickly, so that he can join us on stage for us to become whole again," J-hope told IANS.</p>

<p>According to a new announcement, South Korean boy group EXO member Chen has something sweet up his sleeve. He will soon be getting married to his girlfriend who is not from the world of fame as they expect their first child together.</p>

<p>Chen, whose real name is Kim Jongdae made the happy announcement via a handwritten letter to EXO's fancafe. He wrote in the letter that he has a ‘girlfriend’ with whom he would like to be with “the rest of [his] life”.</p>

<p>Chen wrote that he has discussed his decision with his management company SM Entertainment and his fellow EXO members before choosing to share the news publicly.</p>

<p>Soon after his public announcement came, SM Entertainment also released a statement confirming that Chen will be marrying his girlfriend in a private ceremony.</p>

<p>EXO fans, known as EXO-Ls, have come out in support of their idol. This comes as a major surprise because on earlier occasions, fans have criticised the pop industry stars for marrying or choosing to date publicly.</p>

<p>Branded jackets sell for 299,000 won ($257) alongside socks, sleep masks and other merchandise linked to the band which has spearheaded a wave of Korean pop music and become the first group since the Beatles to have three number one albums in the United States in less than a year.</p>

<p>Analysts say demand for the gear is growing as the popularity of K-Pop bands spreads beyond the domestic market across other parts of Asia and into the West.</p>

<p>Japanese fans outside the store told Reuters they had flown in because the Gangnam store "had more stuff" than the three BTS stores in their own country. About 1,500 fans or more visited the store during a single day last week.</p>

<p>"I’m hoping to buy whatever I can," said Rebecca Mould, 25, originally from the U.S. city of Boston, a BTS fan for about two years on her first visit to the store. "I already have a lot, so whatever else there is..."</p>

<p>Big Hit - an unlisted company with investments from South Korea's STIC Investments and China's Legend Capital - has launched an app called Weply to sell "merch" to fans worldwide.</p>

<p>The South Korean musical group BTS, which this weekend performed in front of 84,000 people in all at two concerts here in the nation's largest city, was all it took for thousands of young Brazilians to immerse themselves in K-Pop culture.</p>

<p>Beyond the concerts on successive nights at Allianz Parque Stadium, the presentations of Son RM, Jimin, J-Hope, Suga, Jin, V and Jungkook were further proof of the impact these seven young musicians are having on the new generations of South Americans.</p>

<p>As had already occurred in Sao Paulo with famed artists like Justin Bieber and One Direction, expectations for seeing BTS in a grand concert kept building for several months, to the point that many youths from every region and even from neighbouring countries camped out for as long as 90 days to make sure they got the best seats.</p>

<p>Gabriela, who travelled here from Buenos Aires, told EFE that K-Pop culture entered her country with the South Korean kiddie dramas shown on TV, and now she longs for BTS or some of the other bands in the movement to visit Argentina.</p>

<p>Romina, an Uruguayan medical student, said that K-Pop became part of her life when she first heard a song by BTS on the radio in her dad's car. The group, she said, also "has its visual side. Besides singing, they dance," so they put on more of a show onstage.</p>

<p>But it's not just youngsters that identify with K-Pop - 49-year-old Rocio Arguello, who travelled to Brazil from Paraguay with some 60 other people, got to know the K-Pop movement through his daughter, a fan of another South Korean band.</p>

<p>"K-Pop has a lot of fans in Paraguay. The biggest group is the BTS. It grew and we've already had a festival with lesser groups," Arguello told EFE.</p>

<p>The year 2018 was an absolute record for BTS, which besides its recorded hits became the first South Korean group nominated for Grammy Awards, and even without singing in English topped the Billboard list of sales in the United States.</p>

<p>The global impact of BTS and of the whole K-Pop culture also made it big in Brazil, a country with a large volume of Asian immigration in the last century.</p>

<p>The Brazilian sisters Hiromi and Miuki of Japanese descent consider that in K-Pop, "it's all different, really diversified, a lot of new things that Americanized things don't have nowadays," and noted, besides the music videos and choreography, the "love that is perceived" by its followers.</p>

<p>For diehard fans, habitual purchasers of food, clothes, makeup and K-Pop albums, social networks have contributed to spreading the name and fame of South Korean bands, "chiefly in schools," where hair coloured and cut in the BTS style is seen all the time and every bit of news about the group is greeted with screaming enthusiasm.</p>

<p>The first signs of the movement appeared in 1998 and were seen by the South Korean government as "power." After realizing that this youthful style was injecting $4.7 billion into the nation's economy through trade, tourism and industry, it created the Culture Ministry's K-Pop Department.</p>

South Korean pop music awes Brazilian youth

<p>The way to an Indian's heart is clearly through some good old fashioned Bollywood music. Popular K-Pop group IN2IT are touring in India along with guest star AleXa. A part of their IN2ITxION tour, the band's first show was in Mumbai on 15th April.</p>

<p>K-pop has a considerable amount of fan following in India and the Mumbai event was naturally packed as fans of the band came to sing along with their favourite K-pop artists. But the surprise of the night came when the band along with AleXa performed to hit number 'Bole Chudiyan' from the film 'Kabhi Khushi Kahbie Gham'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>AleXa, dressed in a lehenga-choli opened the song while band members of IN2IT joined in later and copied Hrithik Roshan's steps from the original song to the hilt. Needless to say the crowd went berserk in excitement. Here,&nbsp;watch the video.&nbsp;</p>

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish human rights organisation, also condemned BTS in a written statement published on Sunday (November 11) saying the band was "mocking the past" after, according to Japanese media, previous photos surfaced of the group wearing hats with the Nazi SS death head logo and waving flags resembling the Nazi swastika.</p>

<p>However, for many of the thousands of fans who thronged the 55,000-seater Tokyo Dome, they believed the boy band had not done this intentionally.</p>

<p>Despite twitter chatter of possible anti-Korean protests, just one right-wing protester turned up to denounce the band, talking for over three hours ahead of the show and handing out leaflets. No large-scale protests were seen by the time the band's concert kicked off.</p>

<p>The seven-member boy band is planning to tour across Japan by visiting Osaka in November, Nagoya in December and Fukuoka in February 2019.</p>
