<p>The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation celebrated its sixth Blue Diamond Gala on Thursday night with some of the major names in the world of Los Angeles sports stars and a headlining set from Jennifer Lopez. This has been the first time the annual event is held since the pandemic struck in 2019.</p>

<p>The event, dubbed `The Party for L.A.,` raised a record-breaking USD 3.6 million for LADF, which aims to improve education, health care, homelessness and social justice for all Angelenos and, since 1995, has invested more than USD 40 million in programs and grants to non-profits throughout the city, as per The Hollywood Reporter.</p>

<p>The gala also congratulated LADF`s Everyday Champions, whose work in the community has been hampered by the COVID19 pandemic but who have been able to step up and make a difference.</p>

<p>Almost the entire Dodgers roster was in attendance at the event, including stars Clayton Kershaw, Mookie Betts, Justin Turner and Cody Bellinger, and manager Dave Roberts. Venus Williams, Dodgers owner Mark Walter and Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss had also attended the event.</p>

<p>As per The Hollywood Reporter, LADF CEO Nichol Whiteman took the stage for a brief speech ahead of JLo`s performance, saying, "This year`s gala reflects our endless potential when we combine our efforts and insist on making a difference in the lives of those who need us most."</p>

<p>"It is no mistake that we stand on this magical field, this field of dreams, where our Boys in Blue won the 2020 championship. In that life-altering year, we showed the world that we are champions on and off the field. We helped some of the most vulnerable communities survive an avalanche of uncertainty and pain," she added.</p>

<p>Jennifer Lopez, fresh from her Netflix documentary Halftime, following her 2020 Super Bowl performance, took the stage for the final hour of the gala. She performed her hits amid five costume changes and elaborate choreography with a dozen backup dancers.</p>

<p>After JLo teased, "I know we`re in L.A. but I`ve got to keep it `New York` forever," with some of her N.Y.-centered tunes, Lopez told the crowd, "This is a big night for all of you all, and a big night for me too.</p>

<p>"While taking the stage, she said, "They told me that 8.8 million children`s lives are touched by this foundation every year. Give yourselves a round of applause, a pat on the back."</p>

<p>While accepting the golden popcorn trophy at Los Angeles' Barker Hangar, Lopez listed the people she wishes to thank. However, the list wasn't what you would have expected it to be.</p>

<p>"I want to thank all the people who gave me this life. I want to thank the people who gave me joy, and the ones who broke my heart," JLo said.</p>

<p>She further added, "The ones who were true, and the ones who lied to me."</p>

<p>"I want to thank true love, and I want to thank the way that I lied to myself because that's how I knew that I had to grow," she continued.</p>

<p>The star then went on to thank "disappointment and failure" that taught her to be strong.&nbsp;And, while thanking her children, 14-year-old twins Max and Emme, she teared up. Seeing the diva get emotional,&nbsp;the crowd cheered.</p>

The 52-year-old singer who started dating her former fiance last spring admitted to People Magazine that they were reminded of the chaos that surrounded them throughout their relationship in the early 2000s.<br />

"Before, we kind of put [our relationship] out there. We were naive and it got a little trampled," Lopez said.<br />

The 'Hustlers' actor also shared that she and Affleck were willing to take a risk this time around, however, seeing as they were much older and wiser.<br />

"We both were like, 'Wow, we're so happy and we don`t want any of that to come into play again,'" she explained.<br />
"We're older now, we`re smarter, we have more experience, we're at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things. We`re so protective because it is such a beautiful time for all of us," Lopez said.<br />

The year, she said, “when everything I had worked for in movies, music and fashion just started happening.”</p>

<p>“Marry Me,” which Lopez began working on years ago with Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, her former agent turned producing partner, is in some sense an explanation of what it’s like to exist under Lopez’s spotlight, something she calls “a very specific life.” It is also a high-wire act, a bet that she can revive a genre that’s been left for dead by both the studio system and the rom-com stars of the past.</p>

Think “The Bodyguard” meets “Notting Hill” complete with a soundtrack by Lopez.</p>

<p>The movie is both a frothy pop fantasy and a glimpse into a life few are lucky enough to lead. Any obsessive Lopez fan will surely examine it closely for clues into Lopez’s own psyche, specifically how lonely it can be at the top, where the cocoon of entitlement can often feel like a cage. And they won’t be wrong.</p>

<p>Despite the guardrails, public perception is something Lopez still struggles to get right.</p>

<p>“You really just want to sing and dance and act,” Lopez said. “This whole other thing comes along with it that you have to learn how to navigate — having that public life, this artistic life and then your private life. What you want is just a regular life, like anybody else,” she said with a pause. “All of it is put under scrutiny.”</p>

<p>Lopez had just finished telling me this when Affleck appeared. “Hi, baby,” she said to him. The two set the internet on fire last year when they rekindled their relationship from 19 years ago — a relationship so extra at the time that it single-handedly fueled tabloid culture with the duo’s glamorous, and very public, meet-ups. <p>I asked Lopez about the conversations the two of them had before rekindling a romance that previously had the power to sink two films and jeopardize their respective careers. (“Gigli” and the subsequent “Jersey Girl” both crashed on release, in part because of relationship turmoil.) Had they strategized on how they would handle the media frenzy that would accompany such a union?</p>

<p>“I would say we learned our lesson the first time,” she said with a sigh.</p>

<p>“To hold it sacred,” she added. “You have to do what feels good to you all the time. But at the same time, you learn from the past, you do things better the second time. <p>“You can’t live life and think that things are just mistakes: I just messed up there, I messed up there. No, it’s all lessons,” she said. “It’s really what can you extrapolate from it that is going to help you grow and go to the next level of understanding yourself, finding yourself and being able to be at peace with your life, at peace with who you are.”</p>

Last year the VMAs took place without a live audience and with most performances recorded in advance because of the pandemic. This year, fans wearing masks filled the indoor Barclays Center arena.<br />

Rodrigo, 18, went into Sunday`s show with five nominations including artist of the year and best new artist after her debut single "drivers license" stormed the pop charts worldwide in January.<br />

She performed smash hit "good 4 u" and took home the trophy for song of the year for "drivers license" in the fan-voted awards.<br />

"This is so insane. This has been the most magical year of my life," Rodrigo said, dedicating her win to "all the other girls who write songs on their bedroom floor."<br />

Justin Bieber returned to the VMA stage for the first time in six years, singing his single "Ghost," while his wife, Hailey, was a presenter.<br />
