Both countries have faced border disputes since 1962, with the latest one being in 2020 when Indian and Chinese forces engaged in a fight in the Galwan Valley. Earlier, in the month of May, while clarifying India's stance on the issues, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said that the two countries can't be normal until peace and tranquillity are maintained on the Land of Actual Control (LAC). "I have made it very clear, publicly as well, that India-China relations are not normal and cannot be normal if peace and tranquillity in the border areas are disturbed..." Jaishankar said. "I have been very consistent about it and I have not changed my position in this meeting either," he added. Jaishankar meets Chinese diplomat Wang Yi, discusses peace and tranquillity in border areas

<p>New Delhi on Thursday blasted Ottawa for its ‘soft’ response to anti-India activities in Canada by unequivocally telling it that 'freedom of expression' cannot be used to legitimise terror. India's foreign minister Jaishankar flags Khalistani extremism to Canada, UK before propaganda rally

<p>In a significant move to enhance educational ties between India and Africa, an announcement is expected to be made during External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar's visit to Tanzania next week regarding the establishment of the first foreign campus of the Indian Institute&nbsp;of Technology (IIT).</p>

<p>The development comes after a series of discussions and negotiations between the two nations, highlighting India's commitment to bringing world-class education to the African continent.</p>

<p>Tanzania in the past has been a major beneficiary of Indian scholarships and educational assistance. A number of Tanzanian students are currently studying in India, many of whom are self-financed. The establishment of an IIT campus in Tanzania will not only provide local students with enhanced educational opportunities but also contribute to the overall growth and development of the east African country.</p>

<p>The upcoming visit of External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will witness the signing of a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Tanzania for establishment of the IIT Campus.</p>

<p>The campus is expected to play a crucial role in nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and facilitating technological advancements in Tanzania and the broader African region.</p>

<p>India and Tanzania have been bolstering their engagement across various sectors, including defence cooperation. Recently, the second meeting of the India-Tanzania Joint Defence Cooperation Committee took place, leading to the formulation of a comprehensive five-year roadmap for defense collaboration. This roadmap encompasses initiatives ranging from customized training and capacity building to maritime cooperation, infrastructure development, and joint efforts in defense equipment and technology.</p>

In a significant move to enhance educational ties between India and Africa, an announcement is expected to be made during External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar's visit to Tanzania next week regarding the establishment of the first foreign campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The development comes after a series of discussions and negotiations between the two nations, highlighting India's commitment to bringing world-class education to the African continent. Tanzania in the past has been a major beneficiary of Indian scholarships and educational assistance. A number of Tanzanian students are currently studying in India, many of whom are self-financed. The establishment of an IIT campus in Tanzania will not only provide local students with enhanced educational opportunities but also contribute to the overall growth and development of the east African country. The campus is expected to play a crucial role in nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and facilitating technological advancements in Tanzania and the broader African region. India and Tanzania have been bolstering their engagement across various sectors, including defence cooperation. Recently, the second meeting of the India-Tanzania Joint Defence Cooperation Committee took place, leading to the formulation of a comprehensive five-year roadmap for defense collaboration. This roadmap encompasses initiatives ranging from customized training and capacity building to maritime cooperation, infrastructure development, and joint efforts in defense equipment and technology. NATO template doesn’t apply to India, says foreign minister Jaishankar

BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting was held in Cape Town. This was a run-off to the BRICS summit, which is to be hosted by South Africa this year. At this meeting, India's EAM Dr S. Jaishankar strongly called out on terrorism. With that, he took a dig at Pakistan and China. What exactly happened? Molly Gambhir reports.

Gravitas: India asks BRICS to fight for terror

<p>India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar called on the BRICS members to make sincere efforts to push reforms of international institutions such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).</p>

<p>Speaking at the BRICS foreign ministers meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, the minister reiterated India’s long-standing demand of reforming the UNSC to make it more representative.</p>

<p>"For two decades, we have heard calls for reform of multilateral institutions, only to be continuously disappointed. It is, therefore, imperative that BRICS members demonstrate sincerity in regard to reforming global decision-making, including that of the UN Security Council," he said in his opening remarks at the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting on Thursday (June 1).</p>

<p>The BRICS grouping consists of five of the largest developing countries in the world: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.</p>

<p>Without mentioning China, which is a permanent member of the UNSC, Jaishankar reasoned that at the heart of the problems the countries faced was the economic concentration that left too many nations at the mercy of too few.</p>

<p>"This may be in regard to production, resources, services or connectivity. Recent experiences impacting health, energy and food security only highlight this fragility,” he said.</p>

<p>Apart from China, the other permanent members - or P5- of the UNSC are Russia, the United Kingdom, France and the United States and these countries can veto any substantive resolution.</p>

<p>The Indian minister called on the BRICS to send out a strong message that the world is multipolar, rebalancing and “that old ways cannot address new situations”.</p>

<p>“Contemporary challenges underline the deep shortcomings of the current international architecture, which does not reflect today’s politics, economics, demographics or indeed aspirations,” he added.</p>

<p>He said India, the current chair of the G20, undertook the&nbsp;voice of the Global South&nbsp;exercise to place these issues before the grouping.</p>

<p>"We urge that BRICS gives it particular consideration and promotes the economic decentralisation that is so essential to political democratisation," he said.</p>

'Prevent misuse of democratic freedoms': S Jaishankar to UK minister

The Narendra Modi government has taken steps to ensure that no attempts are made to change the status quo in the border areas unilaterally, Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated, adding that both countries, India and China, must find an equilibrium in their relations but it cannot be on the terms of the other party. He acknowledged that India faces a very complicated challenge from China.

Indian External affairs minister S Jaishankar has responded to EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell's call for action against Indian refined products from Russian crude. Jaishankar advised Borrell to refer to EU Council regulations, specifically Regulation 833/2014, which Jaishankar said recognises that Russian crude undergoes substantial transformation in a third country and is no longer treated as Russian.

<p>On the sidelines of the two-day 6th Indian Ocean Conference being held in Dhaka, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, in an exclusive conversation with WION's Sidhant Sibal, underscored the need for upholding the Law of the Seas. The foreign minister highlighted that the countries in the region should have "orderly, acceptable consensus on maritime activities" and there must be adherence and respect for the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).</p>

<p>EAM also spoke at length on the key issues of the debt crisis in the region and stressed the greater need to have more transparency in lending. Bangladesh is hosting the 6th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) from 12-13 May in the capital city of Dhaka. With respect to India's relationship with Bangladesh, Jaishankar stressed how the relationship will give Indian northeastern states a much better chance at accessing the world.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Jaishankar: </strong>This is the sixth conference and over this period it has evolved a lot. Today, it is the premiere platform to bring together all the countries of the Indian Ocean. Indo-Pacific is very much the fashion nowadays. There is a lot of acceptance of it. There is a lot of understanding of it. Not just in this part of the world but also in Europe and in America. But we should not forget that the Indian Ocean is the core constituent of the Indo-Pacific and the Indian Ocean has its own issues. Most of them are developing countries, and lots of them are post-colonial countries, connectivity is&nbsp;an issue, growth is an issue, and debt is an issue. So, there are a particular set of concerns that are the natural agenda for the Indian Ocean and that is what really the conference is all about.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Jaishankar: </strong>In my speech, in a limited time, you want to flag the key issues. I flagged UNCLOS because in a sense UNCLOS is the constitution of the oceans. So, adherence to UNCLOS and respect for UNCLOS is essential. We are to have an orderly, acceptable consensus on maritime activities but there are some very specific problems. You spoke about connectivity how connectivity got disrupted and how we need to rebuild it. I also talked about debt and viable projects in this part of the world, we are seeing countries struggling with that, countries struggling with projects where lending has not been transparent, where the return on investment is not realistic and it has put countries under pressure so it is important we learn from lessons. It should not be that one country's problems are only that country's problems. I think there are lessons for everybody else. I think that needs to be flagged. So I would also say that the idea of collaboration itself among countries is essential because you are talking about a vast space.&nbsp;</p>

EXCLUSIVE: Jaishankar flags need for adherence to, respect for ‘constitution of the oceans’ UNCLOS

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen is all set to land in India today (09 May) for a three-day visit. He will hold a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Eli Cohen will also attend the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) India-Israel Business Forum.

Israel FM Eli Cohen to arrive in India today, likely to meet EAM Jaishankar

The Israeli foreign minister is on a 3-day India visit. Eli Cohen will meet his Indian counterpart Jaishankar at around noon today. Apart from the capital New Delhi, the Israeli foreign minister will be visiting the Indian cities of Agra and Mumbai. Eli Cohen's trip comes after India visits by Israel's Knesset speaker & economy minister. Recently, Israel's India envoy said the cooperation between the two nations is based on deep trust. He added prime minister Netanyahu is expected to visit India later this year. India and Israel established full diplomatic relations in 1992. Since then, the bilateral relationship between the two countries has blossomed at the economic, agricultural and political levels. Narendra Modi became the first sitting Indian prime minister to visit Israel on July 4, 2017. Bilateral consultation mechanisms exist in multiple sectors of collaboration, including Defence and counter-terror.

The Israeli army said it killed three leaders of the Islamic Jihad group in air strikes on Gaza. According to the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled Palestinian territory, the Israeli air strikes left a dozen dead. Amid the escalating tensions, Israel's foreign minister has cut short his India visit, while the Islamic jihad group scrapped a visit to Cairo. Israel's foreign minister Eli Cohen, who arrived in India today morning, decided to cut short his 3-day diplomatic visit. He will now leave after meeting Indian prime minister Narendra Modi. Eli Cohen's trip is the third high-level visit by senior Israeli officials in less than three months. Israel's Knesset speaker & economy minister visited recently. Analysts say the high-level India trips are being seen as a prelude to the much-anticipated visit of Netanyahu later this year. Remember, Narendra Modi became the first sitting Indian prime minister to visit Israel on July 4, 2017.
