<p>Asserting India's role in stabilising global oil and gas markets through its strategic purchase policies amid the Russia-Ukraine war, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar noted that the purchase policies of India managed "global inflation".</p>

<p>During a conversation hosted by the High Commission of India in London, titled 'How a billion people see the world,' Jaishankar discussed India's impactful position in global affairs.</p>

<p>EAM Jaishankar said, "So we've actually softened the oil markets and the gas markets through our purchase policies. We have, as a consequence, actually managed global inflation. I'm waiting for the thank you."</p>

<p>The minister explained that India's approach to oil purchases prevented a surge in global oil prices, preventing potential competition with Europe in the market.</p>

<p>He elaborated, "When it comes to the purchase...I think the global oil prices would have gone higher because we would have gone into the same market to the same suppliers that Europe would have done and as we discovered Europe would have outpriced us."</p>

<p>While acknowledging India's significance in the global markets,&nbsp;Jaishankar noted, "We saw that in the LNG markets where actually many supplies which were traditionally coming into Asia were diverted to Europe and in fact at least India was a big enough country to command some respect in the markets but there were much smaller countries who didn't even get responses to their tender in Paris because the LNG suppliers were no longer interested in dealing with them."</p>

<p>"They have bigger fish to fry," the EAM added.</p>

<p>In addressing India's stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, Jaishankar highlighted the balance between principles and interests.</p>

<p>The conversation, part of Mr Jaishankar's five-day visit to the UK, took place at the Royal Over-Seas League Club and was moderated by journalist Lionel Barber.</p>

<p>In the conversation, the EAM also underscored India's pivotal role in reforms of the global institutions like the G20 and BRICS, saying that "we are partly evolutionary, partly revolutionary." <p>Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday (Oct 22) said that the ripple effects of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war are not entirely clear right now. His remarks came while he was addressing the closing plenary session on ‘Navigating a World on Fire’ at the Kautilya Economic Conclave - 2023, organised by the Institute of Economic Growth in association with the Ministry of Finance, in New Delhi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The ripple impact of what is taking place right now in the Middle East is still not entirely clear... In different regions, there are smaller happenings whose impact is not inconsequential... There is also the less formal version that is very pervasive, terrorism which has long been honed and practised as a tool of statecraft... Any expectation that conflicts and terrorism can be contained in their impact is no longer tenable. A big part of this is clearly economic, but do not underestimate the danger of metastasis when it comes to radicalism and extremism. No danger is too distant anymore," Jaishankar reportedly said.&nbsp;</p>

‘Our interests are aligned,’ Indian FM Jaishankar declares after meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart

<p>The current India-US partnership is going to reach another level under the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian foreign minister S Jaishankar said, and added that like Chandrayaan, the bilateral ties would “reach the Moon and beyond”.</p>

<p>Jaishankar made these remarks at the 'Celebrating Colours of Friendship' event organised by the Embassy of India in Washington on Saturday, which was attended by several hundred Indian-Americans.</p>

<p>“There is one clear message today that our relationship is at an all-time high. But as they say in America, you ain't seen anything yet. So, we are going to take this relationship to a different level, to a different place,” he said at the India House.</p>

<h2><strong>'US played key role in success of G20'</strong></h2>

<p>Jaishankar also credited the success of the G20 Summit in New Delhi to the US.</p>

<p>“As the host, when things go well, the host always gets the credit. It's reasonable. But, the G20 could not have come together if all the members of the G20 did not work for its success," he said</p>

<p>"I think particularly, I must say, because I'm in this country today, the contribution, the support and the understanding that we got from the United States to make a successful G20, I think that is something I would certainly like to recognise in public in Washington DC,” Jaishankar added.</p>

<p>“So, it may have been our success in a literal way, but I think it was the G20 [nations] success. To me, it was also a success of the India-US&nbsp;partnership.… Please keep giving this partnership the support it needs, the support it deserves and the support it expects. And I can promise you that this relationship, like the Chandrayaan, will go to the Moon, maybe even beyond,” he said.</p>

The current India-US partnership is going to reach another level under the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian foreign minister S Jaishankar said, and added that like Chandrayaan, the bilateral ties would “reach the Moon and beyond”.

The current India-US partnership is going to reach another level under the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian foreign minister S Jaishankar said, and added that like Chandrayaan, the bilateral ties would “reach the Moon and beyond”. Jaishankar made these remarks at the 'Celebrating Colours of Friendship' event organised by the Embassy of India in Washington on Saturday, which was attended by several hundred Indian-Americans. “There is one clear message today that our relationship is at an all-time high. But as they say in America, you ain't seen anything yet. So, we are going to take this relationship to a different level, to a different place,” he said at the India House. 'US played key role in success of G20' Jaishankar also credited the success of the G20 Summit in New Delhi to the US. “As the host, when things go well, the host always gets the credit. It's reasonable. But, the G20 could not have come together if all the members of the G20 did not work for its success," he said "I think particularly, I must say, because I'm in this country today, the contribution, the support and the understanding that we got from the United States to make a successful G20, I think that is something I would certainly like to recognise in public in Washington DC,” Jaishankar added. “So, it may have been our success in a literal way, but I think it was the G20 [nations] success. To me, it was also a success of the India-US partnership.… Please keep giving this partnership the support it needs, the support it deserves and the support it expects. And I can promise you that this relationship, like the Chandrayaan, will go to the Moon, maybe even beyond,” he said. 'India-US bond unique' Jaishankar said that what makes the US and India ties unique is the human bond between the two countries. 'If you ask me... ': EAM Jaishankar addresses Manipur situation in New York

Moments ago India's External Affairs Minister s j Shankar addressed the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He started his address by rendering India's support to the UNGA's theme of rebuilding trust and reigniting Global solidarity. He also hailed India's G20 success while adding that the world is witnessing exceptional periods of turmoil.

<p>External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar while speaking on Saturday evening during an event here at ‘South Rising: Partnerships, Institutions and Ideas’, said that economically dominant countries are leveraging production capabilities and those countries who have institutional influence have weaponized these capabilities.</p>

<p>Further, citing the example of the COVID-19 pandemic, the minister also stressed that "it is still a world of double standards."</p>

<p>"There is a growing sentiment in the world and the Global South in a way embodies it. But there’s also political resistance. Those occupying positions of influence are resisting pressure to change", said EAM Jaishankar during the event hosted by the Observer Research Foundation, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, United Nations India and the Reliance Foundation.</p>

<p>"They will mouth the right things, but the reality is still today, it’s a world very much of double standards," he added.</p>

<p>Speaking about the Global South and India’s G20 Presidency, Jaishankar highlighted how India was ‘the voice of the Global South’ and how it steered the global conversation back to global growth and development issues by getting the G20 to talk about what the world wanted to talk about, the real problem of the G20.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“To get the G20, to talk about what the world wanted to talk about, that was the real problem with the G20. Our Prime Minister put it very well, he said first let’s talk to the people who are not going to be on the table. Let’s find out what they have to say. This is why, we were the voice of the Global South. I think it gave us the basis to say, look we have spoken to 125 countries and this is really what is troubling them and that is why we need to focus on this issue”, said Jaishankar.</p>

<p>“I think there's clearly a sense of history. There is much of the Global South coming from a world that was colonized. There is a sense of geography. Not all countries in the South are part of the Global South. And, I think there's also the mindset. So, the Global South is an expression, in a way, of a certain solidarity and generosity and sort of a sharing spirit community. I think if you're part of the Global South, you know it," he added.</p>

<p>Talking further, the Minister also said that the Global South ate less wheat and more millets.<br />

<p>Referring to the full consensus achieved by the New Delhi Declaration, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that many people were surprised when India was able to get everybody together.<br />
“On the G20 Summit, a lot of folks were still surprised that we actually got everybody together. I don’t think they completely expected that. So there will be one set of people who are still wondering how that happened”, said EAM.</p>

<p>“The other part, which I think includes some people with me here now has appreciated that we got the G20 to focus on the Global South and that the job for which the G20 was created, which was global growth and development, we got them to refocus on it and with particular attention to the Global South. We did that partly by organizing a Global South summit in advance,” he added.&nbsp;</p>

So there will be one set of people who are still wondering how that happened”, said EAM. “The other part, which I think includes some people with me here now has appreciated that we got the G20 to focus on the Global South and that the job for which the G20 was created, which was global growth and development, we got them to refocus on it and with particular attention to the Global South. We did that partly by organizing a Global South summit in advance,” he added. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. India hosted the summit on 9-10th of September in Delhi that saw a gathering of over 20 top global leaders. "I think history would remember it, as an inflection point, in graph of a rising India that yes people would say that this was one of those big moments from shaping the agenda , creating a consensus,," EAM Dr. Jaishankar told our diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal. "I think anybody writing a G20 history would say this was probably one of the most substantive G20s," Dr. Jaishankar noted, "These issues will determine the world's future in the next decade." From reforms in multilateral banks to addressing debt, green development, food security, gender equality, and skills mapping, the G20 countries came together to address issues of global significance. EAM Jaishankar Exclusive Interview: 'Our commitments to Africa have increased'

<p>India's External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar&nbsp;credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India’s changed attitude at international fora, and a&nbsp;reason for India finding its place at the high table of diplomacy.</p>

<p>In an interview with ANI, Jaishankar said, "It is a different world, a different India. It is a different Prime Minister. It is a different government. And that is why you have all that you haven't seen in the past."</p>

<p>When asked about a consensus on G-20 joint communique, Jaishankar said that&nbsp;G-20 is a collective exercise.</p>

<p>"We will deal with it in that. Look, we are India. You know we are India. We know how to handle the world. Believe me, especially in the last ten years we have shown how we can handle the world," Jaishankar told news agency ANI ahead of G-20 summit in New Delhi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Asked about Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov's comment that Russian wanted Ukraine crisis to be included in the declaration, and if it's the muscle flexing before the summit, Jaishankar said:&nbsp;"Well, that may be the way you would characterise it. I mean, for me, anybody would try to put across their national position, try to maximise their negotiating position if you would. I think you should wait and see what actually happens in the negotiation, not prejudge it purely in terms of what may be said on one occasion. And what the media interpretation of what was said on one occasion."</p>

<p>Speaking on India taking up the voice of the Global South to G20, the minister said that no other presidency had aimed at getting developing countries together.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"No other G-20 presidency has tried to get together developing countries who are not on the table and say -- please come, sit with us, tell us what are your concerns. And we will distil those concerns and place them before the G-20. That is a unique exercise," the foreign affairs minister said.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Jaishankar said that India has a special responsibility in this changing world scenario.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
"I see it more for India as a responsibility, that we have the responsibility today in a very difficult world. How do you bring people together? How do you make everybody understand that we all have a bigger responsibility and therefore please, can we kind of get our act together here and do what is right by the world," he said.&nbsp;<br />

<br />
"India has a reputation of being a constructive player. Someone who bridges&nbsp;divides, who kind of somewhere helps to fix problems. I am confident that every one of the G20 nations coming to Delhi will understand the responsibility that they bear. That the other 180 countries of the world are looking to them to set directions and that they cannot afford to fail them," he said.&nbsp;<br />

India's External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India’s changed attitude at international fora, and a reason for India finding its place at the high table of diplomacy.

India's External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India’s changed attitude at international fora, and a reason for India finding its place at the high table of diplomacy. In an interview with ANI, Jaishankar said, "It is a different world, a different India. It is a different Prime Minister. It is a different government. And that is why you have all that you haven't seen in the past." When asked about a consensus on G-20 joint communique, Jaishankar said that G-20 is a collective exercise. "We will deal with it in that. Look, we are India. You know we are India. We know how to handle the world. Believe me, especially in the last ten years we have shown how we can handle the world," Jaishankar told news agency ANI ahead of G-20 summit in New Delhi. Asked about Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov's comment that Russian wanted Ukraine crisis to be included in the declaration, and if it's the muscle flexing before the summit, Jaishankar said: "Well, that may be the way you would characterise it. I mean, for me, anybody would try to put across their national position, try to maximise their negotiating position if you would. I think you should wait and see what actually happens in the negotiation, not prejudge it purely in terms of what may be said on one occasion. And what the media interpretation of what was said on one occasion." Also watch | G20's role in shaping the future of global trade × Speaking on India taking up the voice of the Global South to G20, the minister said that no other presidency had aimed at getting developing countries together. "No other G-20 presidency has tried to get together developing countries who are not on the table and say -- please come, sit with us, tell us what are your concerns. And we will distil those concerns and place them before the G-20. That is a unique exercise," the foreign affairs minister said. Jaishankar said that India has a special responsibility in this changing world scenario. "I see it more for India as a responsibility, that we have the responsibility today in a very difficult world. How do you bring people together? How do you make everybody understand that we all have a bigger responsibility and therefore please, can we kind of get our act together here and do what is right by the world," he said. The External Affairs minister said he hoped that the G20 nations would understand their responsibilities to other countries. Someone who bridges divides, who kind of somewhere helps to fix problems. I am confident that every one of the G20 nations coming to Delhi will understand the responsibility that they bear. That the other 180 countries of the world are looking to them to set directions and that they cannot afford to fail them," he said. The minister said that the participation of every citizen of the country in some way in the summit was assuring. ‘We know how to handle the world,’ says EAM Jaishankar on delivering consensus-based G20 statement

<p>India's External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar addressed the controversy surrounding the G-20 invitation cards that gave rise to speculations that the government is intending to drop 'India' as one of the official names of the world's largest democracy and replace it with just 'Bharat', the ancient name that came to identify much of the modern-day India.</p>

<p>"India, that is Bharat - it is there in the Constitution. I would invite everybody to read it," Jaishankar told news agency ANI ahead of New Delhi G-20 summit.</p>

<p>The invitation cards stirred huge&nbsp;controversy on September 5, with the Opposition suggesting that the Modi government might be considering dropping 'India' and using only 'Bharat' as the country's name.</p>
