<p>The gecko is a type of lizard. The one named after Jackie Chan is one of 12 new gecko species found in India.</p>

<p>All these 12 species are endemic to the Western Ghats, a biodiversity-rich mountain range that runs parallel to India's western coast.</p>

<p>Saunak Pal of the Bombay Natural History Society has been quoted in media reports as saying that the gecko named after Jacki Chan would "spring from one rock to the other" and "crawl into the smallest of crevices to escape" researchers' attempts to catch it.</p>

<p>The lizard has been named Jackie’s day gecko (Cnemaspis jackieii).</p>

<p>Zeeshan Mirza, coauthor of the study told media outlets that naming animals in such way may help in people developing connect with the species. He has reportedly identified 60 new faunal species to date, including &nbsp;Salazar’s pit viper (Trimeresurus salazar), named after Salazar Slytherin from Harry Potter universe.</p>

It is appalling that&nbsp;Ahmed, a longtime British-Pakistani actor-rapper, a Primetime Emmy Award winner, and this, in 2021—Oscars nomination for ‘Best Actor In A Leading Role’— is his only claim to fame? A line from Ahmed’s own song—‘<em>Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)'</em> from ‘The Hamilton Mixtape’—lingers on my mind as I try to put a fitting conclusion to his segment:</p>

There’s a joke among my peers about Dev Patel every time an Indian or Pakistani role&nbsp;goes to some actor that is not Mr. Patel himself—which, between us, is rarely the case. “<em>Abbe</em>, Dev Patel busy <em>hoga</em>… <em>Abbe</em>, Dev Patel <em>zyada </em>charge<em> kar rahaan hoga</em>… (Man, Dev Patel must be busy…. Dev Patel must be charging more). Actors from this side of the globe have&nbsp;been synonymous to small, insignificant, nameless characters in Hollywood for so long that even Indians struggle to comprehend how—on Earth—did a new, promising actor even make it to Hollywood, or just Netflix? Isn’t that just brutally sad?</p>

Probably the least known controversy surrounding Steven Spielberg—and we get why; the man, the mystery, the whole shebang—is that he lifted the basic idea of ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ from Indian masterpiece-deliverer, the late Satyajit Ray’s unreleased&nbsp;film ‘The Alien’. Like Chan, Ray did get an honorary Oscar in 1992 for his outstanding contribution to cinema—but he was given the award in haste, while&nbsp;on his death bed, and not half as ‘young’ as Chan. <p>This comes after Jackie Chan, on many occasions, has faced criticism for backing the CCP and its policies. He backed Beijing’s crackdown on pro-democracy protests in the former British colony too.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 67-year-old actor revealed his interest in politics at an event. The event also saw the attendance of Chinese film insiders who spoke and shared their thoughts regarding the keynote speech delivered by President Xi Jinping at the centenary celebrations of the party on July 1.</p>

<p>Jackie Chan, also the vice-chairman of the China Film Association, spoke about his interest to join CPC. According to the Chinese state-run Global Times, he said, "I can see the greatness of the CPC, and it will deliver what it says, and what it promises in less than 100 years, but only a few decades. I want to become a CPC member.”</p>

<p>Chan has been a supporter of the Chinese Communist Party for years and served as a member of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) - an advisory body of professionals nominated by the party.</p>
