Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has said that Israel is not only getting attacked by Hamas but also from other militant groups that are being harboured allegedly by the neighbouring countries, raising fears of regional escalation across the Gulf.

Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Dec 26), Gallant said Israel is engaged in a “multi-front war from seven sides: Gaza,&nbsp;Lebanon, Syria, Judea and Samaria [an Israeli term for the West Bank], Iraq, Yemen and Iran”.

“We have already responded and taken action in six of these theatres,” he told the Knesset, without specifying, reports Guardian.

<h2>'Unlikely that Israel-Hamas war will end soon'</h2>

He also said that it was unlikely that the war with Gaza would come to an end anytime soon, adding “it will be a long, hard war. It has costs — heavy costs — but its justification is the highest that can be.”

“Without meeting the goals of the war, we will find ourselves in a situation where… the problem will be that people will not want to live in a place where we do not know how to protect them,” he said at a meeting of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee.

“We need determination, endurance, strength, and national cohesion with the goals. It is a battle in which the one who survives is the one who is stronger at the national level, in its values, and in its unity. This is a battle of national determination, and I tell you that we will defeat Hamas,” Gallant added.

The warning comes at a time when Yemen-based and Iran-backed Houthis have been stepping up their attack on US naval assets that are stationed in the Red Sea in the aftermath of the Israel-Gaza war.

Apart from that, Israel and the powerful Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah have traded near-daily volleys of missiles, airstrikes and shelling across the frontier since October 7.

Egypt has come out with a peace proposal plan to end the Israel-Hamas war, calling for a phased hostage release and the formation of a Palestinian government of experts to administer the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank.

AP news agency on Monday (Dec 26) reported, citing a senior Egyptian official and a European diplomat familiar with the proposal, that the plan was worked out with the help of Qatar and presented to Israel, Hamas, the United States and European governments.

Egypt and Qatar have been the mediators between Israel and Hamas, while the United States, a key power in the Gulf region, is a staunch ally of Tel Aviv.

Though the Israeli government has so far not responded to the purported proposal, Netanyahu, in an opinion piece for the Wall Street Journal, asserted that his country's only goal is to destroy Hamas and “de-radicalise” Palestinians.

“Hamas must be destroyed, Gaza must be demilitarised, and Palestinian society must be deradicalized. These are the three prerequisites for peace between Israel and its Palestinian neighbours in Gaza,” he said.

“To achieve that goal, its military capabilities must be dismantled and its political rule over Gaza must end. Hamas’s leaders have vowed to repeat the Oct. 7 massacre ‘again and again’. That is why their destruction is the only proportional response to prevent the repeat of such horrific atrocities. Anything less guarantees more war and more bloodshed,” he added.

It is reported that Sinwar managed to escape just before the Israeli forces arrived.

According to Channel 13, IDF has been primarily focusing its operations around Khan Younis city in order to achieve its goal of killing Sinwar.

On Sunday, they raided the homes of several Hamas leaders, Sinwar being one of them.

A Canadian youth was charged and arrested with terrorism related offences in connection with antisemitism activity, which has been witnessing&nbsp;a spike across the world after the Israel-Hamas war.

The police arrested the youth, whose information has not been shared citing the accused’s age, on Friday (Dec 15) for facilitating terrorist activity by communicating instructional material related to an explosive substance, CTV News reported.

The accused is further charged with knowingly instructing a person to carry out terrorist activity against "Jewish persons”, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a press release.

Noting the rise of using the internet in terrorism-related activities, the police said it has arrested five young people on such offences since June 2023.

The police said that these activities are especially prevalent among young people, urging the adults in authority positions to watch for early warning signs of radicalisation.

"We are asked frequently about the destruction in Gaza - Hamas is the address. Sinwar is the address," Halevi said.

Israel said that their operation in southern Gaza has been focused on weeding out the top Hamas leaders, and declaring Sinwar as "a dead man walking".

Ismael al-Thawabteh, the director general of the government media office in Gaza, told Al Jazeera on Sunday (Dec 3) that over 700 Palestinians have been killed since Israel resumed bombardment after a seven-day truce ended on Friday.

Heavy bombardment was reported in and around the enclave’s second-largest city of Khan Younis as the military asked civilians to evacuate from the areas of the city and head south to Rafaj or the west.

As the Israeli strikes gained pace, the UN’s OCHA humanitarian agency revised its figure saying that an estimated 1.8 million people are internally displaced, up from a previous figure of 1.7 million.

According to an Israeli government spokesperson Eylon Levy, the military has targeted more than 400 targets over the weekend “including extensive aerial attacks in the Khan Younis area” and had also killed Hamas militants and destroyed their infrastructure in Beit Lahiya in the north.

On Saturday night, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a press conference that he ordered the military to attack Gaza with “increasing force”, and reiterated that his country’s aim was to eliminate Hamas as a political and military force on the bombarded strip.

We need at least 300 trucks for at least two months to get the minimum need&nbsp;of Palestinian people in Gaza Strip." &nbsp;

However, there is no fall in the number of fatalities since once again India has reported almost 4,000 deaths in a day.

The pandemic has killed close to 250,000 people in India.&nbsp;The drop in positive cases is a promising sign.&nbsp;However, it cannot be said India has touched the peak. The country's positivity rate remains around 21 per cent, which means more than one out of five people are testing positive.

India needs to bring down the positivity rate to less than five per cent. Only then&nbsp;it will have the second wave be under control.

India needs to test more. On Sunday, India had conducted just 1.47 million tests which is the lowest this month. Monday was an improvement with over 1.8 million tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

In the past two weeks, India has conducted more than 1.9 million tests in a day multiple times. However, the vaccination curve has peaked. The vaccinations were on a high in April.

India has been administering close to two million doses a day with over 170 million shots given so far and just 2.7 per cent of India's population has got both shots.

Maharashtra has stopped vaccination for those above 18. The state says it will only inoculate those above 45 years of age because it does not have enough doses even as the Centre has asked state governments to prioritise those waiting for their second jab.

Elon Musk says ready to offer ‘help’ for destroying Hamas, ‘there's no choice’

The Hamas terror group gave away a family of four, including a 10-month-old baby, to another Palestine-based terror organisation in Gaza instead of freeing them, the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) claimed, stoking tensions amongst relatives.

The Bibas family was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz when the Hamas militants rampaged through the Israeli cities bordering the Gaza Strip on October 7.

The family comprised parents Yarden Bibas, 34, and Shiri, 32, and their sons four-year-old Ariel, and 10-month-old baby Kfir, Times of Israel newspaper reported.

While it was expected that they would be among the freed Israelis from Gaza, the Israeli military said that the delay in their release has dampened hopes amidst the truce, which is supposed to see another 20 Israeli hostages freed in exchange for 60 Palestinian inmates.

<h2>Held in southern Gaza</h2>

Taking to social media X, IDF Arabic-language spokesman Avichai Adraee said the family is currently being held in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis.

“Children and babies under the age of one who have not seen the light of day for more than fifty days are being held captive by Hamas, [who] treats some of them like loot and in some places has transferred them to other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip,” Adraee wrote.

It was unclear exactly when the transfer occurred or which faction was holding them.

Meanwhile, relatives of the family have urged negotiators to "do whatever they can" to get them home.

Yarden's sister, Ofri, called on the Israeli government, Qatar and Egypt—the key negotiators for hostage release—to make sure that her family is on the list of hostages due to be released on Tuesday (Nov 28).

At a news conference, she said that the family "can't stay there anymore" and that every day is a risk for their mental and physical condition.

The news was later confirmed by Al-Mayadeen, a pan-Arab satellite channel that is politically allied with the Iranian-backed Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah.

According to The Times of Israel, the damage caused to the ship was minimal.

It reported that the ship had no ties with Israel as Symi is leased to CMA CGM by Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, which is a company ultimately controlled by Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer.

“The attack is likely to have been targeted, due to the vessel’s Israeli affiliation through Eastern Pacific Shipping,” the private intelligence firm Ambrey told the AP.

“The vessel’s AIS transmissions were off days prior to the event, indicating this alone does not prevent an attack.”

A statement issued on behalf of Eastern Pacific acknowledged the company being "aware of claims that a container ship under the company's management was targeted in a possible security incident overnight on Friday."

"The vessel in question is currently sailing as planned," the statement said. "All crew are safe and well."
