Ishan Kishan’s return to India’s T20 World Cup squad was happy news not only for him but also for those who seek a way into the Indian Team through significant domestic performances, and this is where former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin lauded the BCCI selectors for. The attacking left-handed batter was picked in India’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup next year, with everyone applauding the selectors’ ‘pick on merit’ theory. Kishan-led Jharkhand lifted its maiden SMAT title, with the Indian international smoking a brilliant hundred (101 off 49 balls).&nbsp;Ashwin shared his thoughts on Kishan’s selection, considering how, after facing a BCCI snub over disciplinary issues, Ishan made a stunning comeback into the T20I side for the title defence at home and Sri Lanka in a hybrid model. &nbsp;“This is a gift that cricket has given to Ishan Kishan. Many people from outside can guess what it is, and some may say it’s unfair. But life comes back in circles. The reason Ishan was not in the team earlier, and how he has come back now, has only one reason. He has given cricket the respect it deserves,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. &nbsp;Kishan was the man in form for Jharkhand in the just concluded SMAT, hitting 517 runs in ten innings, averaging 57.44 and striking at close to 200 (197.32).&nbsp;Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/the-dream-is-now-over-england-captain-ben-stokes-reacts-to-crushing-ashes-defeat-1766295553751">‘The dream is now over,’ England captain Ben Stokes reacts to crushing Ashes defeat</a> &nbsp;Speaking of Kishan’s run to the SMAT Final, Ashwin handpicked tournaments where he excelled, while further explaining how, not just as a cricketer, but also as a person, Ishan evolved after the BCCI snub episode and is now ready to take on the world.&nbsp; &nbsp;“He played in the Buchi Babu Trophy. The Indian Cricket Board announced the central contract list for the upcoming season (2024-25) on Monday (Apr 21), including several newcomers like batter <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/abhishek-sharma" rel="dofollow">Abhishek Sharma</a>, seamer Harshit Rana, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and spinner Varun Chakravarthy, among others. <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/shreyas-iyer" rel="dofollow">Shreyas Iyer</a> and <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ishan-kishan" rel="dofollow">Ishan Kishan</a> are also back after getting dropped for not honouring <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/bcci" rel="dofollow">BCCI</a>&rsquo;s orders early last year.
After the BCCI made it mandatory for each centrally contracted player not picked for any Indian squad, injured or unavailable for any unavoidable personal reason, to appear for their respective state teams in domestic cricket, Iyer and Kishan decided against obeying the orders. While Iyer cited back issues for his absence from Mumbai&rsquo;s Ranji Trophy games despite NCA doctors clearing him of any injury, Ishan remained unavailable for selection due to mental health issues.&nbsp;
Coming back to BCCI's central contract list, the top-tier category (A+) has four players, including ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma, star batter Virar Kohli, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and ace quick Jasprit Bumrah; the list, however, excludes Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced his Test retirement last year, although Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja retain their places despite stepping aside from the T20Is earlier in 2024.
On the other hand, the BCCI promoted gloveman Rishabh Pant from Grade B to Grade A, which also includes first-team players like Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami. Shreyas Iyer, India&rsquo;s mainstay white-ball batter, is also part of the Grade B, including Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ishan Kishan, however, has been added to the C category.

The ones who received their maiden BCCI central contracts include rising T20I batter Abhishek Sharma, batters Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, alongside seamers Akash Deep and Harshit Rana. Team India&rsquo;s mystery spinner Varun also earned his first BCCI contract.
However, a few were also left out, including Shardul Thakur, KS Bharat, Avesh Khan and keeper-batter Jitesh Sharma.
Although the BCCI did not mention the contract amounts for each category, an ESPNcricinfo report suggests INR 7 crore plus for the A+ category, INR 5 crore (A), INR 3 crore (B) and INR 1 crore (C).

India international batters Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are also back after getting dropped for not honouring BCCI’s orders early last year. Sports, Cricket

The Indian Cricket Board announced the central contract list for the upcoming season (2024-25) on Monday (Apr 21), including several newcomers like batter Abhishek Sharma, seamer Harshit Rana, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and spinner Varun Chakravarthy, among others. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are also back after getting dropped for not honouring BCCI’s orders early last year. After the BCCI made it mandatory for each centrally contracted player not picked for any Indian squad, injured or unavailable for any unavoidable personal reason, to appear for their respective state teams in domestic cricket, Iyer and Kishan decided against obeying the orders. While Iyer cited back issues for his absence from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy games despite NCA doctors clearing him of any injury, Ishan remained unavailable for selection due to mental health issues. Shreyas Iyer, India’s mainstay white-ball batter, is also part of the Grade B, including Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ishan Kishan started his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign with a bang when he smacked 106 not out off 47 balls in SunRisers Hyderabad's (SRH) season opener against Rajasthan Royals. In the match against Lucknow Super Giants, he was out on a golden duck - becoming the sixth IPL player on the list of 100 and duck.
Before Kishan, Marcus Stoinis in 2024, Venkatesh Iyer in 2023, Shane Watson in 2018-19 and Suresh Raina in 2013 and Yusuf Pathan in 2010 had been through the same - 100 and duck.

Kishan was the second wicket on as many ball as Shardul Thakur broke through SRH's destructive top order and while Travis Head stayed on a few more overs, they could never recover from the double blow.
SRH kept hitting the balls and kept scoring along with losing wickets at the same pace. Eventually, SRH managed 190/9 in 20 overs.
Head was SRH's top scorer with 47 while Shardul was the pick of the bowlers with the figures of 4/34.
Chasing the total, LSG too had a bad start as they lost Aiden Markram with just four runs on the board. Nicholas Pooran then launched an all-out attack on SRH.
Pooran added 116 runs in about seven overs with Mitchell Marsh before being trapped LBW by Pat Cummins but by that time, LSG only needed about 70 runs in nearly 11 overs.
A couple of quick wickets did slow down LSG towards the middle but skipper Rishabh Pant, who was dismissed for a duck on his LSG debut, stayed on. Pant was dismissed on first ball of 15th over - but on a waist-high no ball - or that's what everybody though before the third umpire ruled him out.
In last six overs, LSG only needed 28 runs and they scored them with five wickets and 23 balls left - winning their first game of the season.

Before joining SRH, Kishan played for Mumbai Indians for seven seasons, winning the IPL title twice. However, MI's call to not retain him for the impending season seemed to have hurt the India gloveman, with Vaughan saying his celebration was aimed at the MI camp, which didn't trust a match-winner in him. Their decision, however, came after the BCCI removed Kishan from the central contract list for disobeying their orders to feature in the Ranji Trophy early last year.
With too much happening with him in the background, Kishan's only shot at redemption was scoring runs and trying to return to the scheme of things, which he did. With his aim remaining to be back in the Indian Team, for which he found success at the top two years ago, scoring his maiden ODI double hundred (against Bangladesh), Ishan&rsquo;s first IPL ton was the first step towards it.
Meanwhile, Vaughan commented on the same during his match analysis for the SRH-RR IPL 2025 game on Cricbuzz, saying, &ldquo;Kishan&rsquo;s celebration for three figures today, that was a celebration maybe (aimed) for Mumbai, maybe to the chairman of selectors, maybe to Rohit Sharma, maybe to the whole of India, maybe to the whole of the world, just to say, &lsquo;Look I&rsquo;m a decent player&rsquo;.&rdquo;
<h2>Record day in Hyderabad</h2>
Several records were broken in Hyderabad on Sunday evening, with Ishan pocketing a few.
While SRH came close to breaching the highest team total in IPL history, which they only set the last season (287/3 vs RCB), their 286/4 saw him register four of the five highest team totals in IPL. For Kishan, he became the first Indian player to hit a hundred for his franchise, further becoming the first to do it on SRH debut.&nbsp;

‘Aimed at Mumbai Indians, BCCI selectors…,’ Vaughan on Kishan’s celebration against RR

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is up and about with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) picking things from where they left last season - smashing everyone coming in their way. With Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, a.k.a. Travishek, already set for one-two punch, they now have Ishan Kishan at number 3.
Kishan, who landed with SRH after IPL 2025 mega auction shuffle, smacked a belligerent hundred in his first game for them. He batted for 47 balls in total and scored 106 not out as SRH posted 286/6 - the second highest score in the IPL history only behind their 287 posted last season.

Kishan was simply too hot for the RR - pretty ironic given Royals are based out of Rajasthan - one of the hottest regions in India.
<h2>Here's how Kishan took apart Rajasthan Royals:&nbsp;</h2>
Kishan's first ball a fuller one on the stumps which he drilled back to the ball - probably gazing the pace, bounce and rest of the parameters before he went into the beast mode - which was on the very next ball and the ball after that.&nbsp;
Kishan drilled two back-to-back fours and showed that he isn't here to play nice. All this happened in the fourth over and by the time powerplay was done - Kishan already had 20 runs off 9 balls which included four fours.
This was only the start of a long afternoon for Rajasthan and Kishan made sure that every bowler, including world-renowned Jofra Archer, felt the heat as well.
The left-hand batting dynamite played eight more balls in the next four overs and smoked 13 more runs which included two more fours. Kishan unleashed himself fully in the 13th over bowled by Archer - hitting the Englishman for three sixes including an inside-out one. In the same over, Kishan completed his half-century off just 25 balls.
In the next three overs, i.e. by the end of 16th, Kishan had amassed 21 runs more off just 11 balls and was batting on 80 off 39 deliveries. He had nine fours and four sixes to his name and SRH was past 200 with four more overs to go.
The batter played only nine of the remaining 24 balls but scored 26 runs, hitting two more of sixes and fours each as RR was all but thankful and relived that the nightmare had ended.
SRH went on to win the match by 44 runs - nearly same as Kishan had scored after peaking in his innings when he had hit Archer for three sixes.
If his form continues like this, the rest of the teams have nothing but more fear and worries for them ahead as this was just the first game SRH had played this season.&nbsp;

IPL 2025: Ishan Kishan was too hot for Rajasthan after buying into SRH's brute-force ideology

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/pat-cummins">Pat Cummins</a> believes his team has established a blueprint for the rest of the Indian Premier League 2025 season following their commanding 44-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Batting first, SRH put up a staggering total of 286/6&mdash;just one shy of the highest-ever IPL score&mdash;thanks to a scintillating maiden IPL century from <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ishan-kishan">Ishan Kishan</a>. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed an unbeaten 106 off 47 balls, peppering the boundary with 11 fours and six sixes. Travis Head complemented the onslaught with a rapid 67 off 31 balls, featuring nine fours and three sixes.

Despite a valiant effort from Rajasthan, who managed 242/6 in their 20 overs, they fell short in the high-scoring contest. <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/sanju-samson">Sanju Samson</a> (66 off 38) and Dhruv Jurel (70 off 38) provided resistance with a 111-run stand for the fourth wicket, but their efforts weren&rsquo;t enough to overhaul the mammoth target.
<h2>'I wouldn't want to bowl to our boys'</h2>
Cummins, speaking after the match, praised his team&rsquo;s batting firepower and Kishan&rsquo;s special knock.
"I wouldn't want to bowl to our boys. That was scary. We knew it would be tough for the bowlers, but with such a big score, one over can change the game. Ishan was incredible today. We&rsquo;ve been trying to play with freedom, and our preparation has been fantastic. The boys have set a template for how we want to approach the rest of the tournament," he said.
Rajasthan&rsquo;s chase got off to a rocky start, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal (1), stand-in captain <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/riyan-parag">Riyan Parag</a> (4), and Nitish Rana (11) within the first five overs. However, Samson and Jurel revived hopes with their aggressive stroke play. Samson reached his fifty in 26 balls, while Jurel brought up his half-century in 28.
Just when RR looked back in the game, Harshal Patel dismissed Samson in the 14th over, followed by Adam Zampa sending Jurel back in the next. Despite late fireworks from Shimron Hetmyer (42 off 23) and Shubham Dubey (34* off 11, strike rate 309.09), Rajasthan couldn&rsquo;t bridge the gap.
Harshal Patel and Simranjeet Singh picked two wickets each, ensuring SRH sealed an emphatic win in a match that saw a combined 528 runs in 40 overs.

IPL 2025: 'Team has set template for success', says SRH captain Pat Cummins after dominant win over RR

It was all about <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ishan-kishan" rel="dofollow">Ishan Kishan</a> till Sunday evening, and didn&rsquo;t he enjoy it? SunRisers Hyderabad&rsquo;s latest superstar <a href="https://www.wionews.com/cricket/ishan-kishan-hits-hundred-on-srh-debut-as-hosts-register-second-highest-team-total-in-ipl-history-8882718" rel="dofollow">smashed a hundred on his debut for the franchise</a>, saying the freedom he got at his new IPL home brings the best out of him. His match-winning 106* helped the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/cricket/ipl-2025-ishan-kishan-match-winning-106-helps-srh-prevail-in-run-fest-against-rr-at-home-jofra-archer-8883014" rel="dofollow">hosts beat Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs</a> in their tournament opener, and Kishan had everyone but captain Pat Cummins to credit this win for, whom he thanked for backing him.
Kishan played for seven seasons at Mumbai Indians, winning the IPL trophy thrice, but the franchise decided against retaining him ahead of the mega auction late last year. At the auction, MI tried chasing him but fell shy of SRH, which bagged his services for $1.3m (INR 11.25 crore). The rest is there for everyone to see.
Meanwhile, Ishan walked out to bat at number three, a position he looked comfortable at on his maiden SRH outing. The left-handed batter took no time before unleashing himself on the opposition, taking the bowlers to the cleaners. If his onslaught against RR&rsquo;s Jofra Archer inside the Powerplay was a trailer, his toiling of the remainder of the attack was a blockbuster show.&nbsp;

Kishan broke several records during his unbeaten knock, including becoming the first Indian player to score a hundred for SRH and the first on his debut for this side. Crediting the captain and the management for throwing trust behind him, Ishan said,&nbsp;
"The skipper, he's giving a lot of freedom to everyone. Doesn't matter if you get a lot of runs or if you get out early. Until and unless you're doing everything for the team, it's all fair. That's the confidence every player in the team needs, so hats off to him and the management."
<h2>New position, new challenges, but same joy</h2>
Ishan usually opened for Mumbai Indians, barring a couple of seasons where he batted down the order; however, in an attempt to shine at number three, he feels solid starts at the top are crucial, which was the case on Sunday.
"When Abhishek and Head started, they gave a lot of confidence to us batters in the dugout," Kishan said. "Credit goes to them also. Whenever you get such good starts, you just have to go. You can take a few balls if you want.
"It gives a lot of benefit to the No. 3 and No. 4 batters [in getting their eye in]. Credit goes to them. The pitch was really good, we were just trying to get them under pressure at any point of time, trying to get all their best bowlers to bowl around the 12-13th over so that worked our way,&rdquo; he added.

Cricket, Sports: Kishan played for seven seasons at Mumbai Indians, but the franchise decided against retaining him ahead of the mega auction late last year.

It was all about Ishan Kishan till Sunday evening, and didn’t he enjoy it? SunRisers Hyderabad’s latest superstar smashed a hundred on his debut for the franchise, saying the freedom he got at his new IPL home brings the best out of him. His match-winning 106* helped the hosts beat Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs in their tournament opener, and Kishan had everyone but captain Pat Cummins to credit this win for, whom he thanked for backing him. Meanwhile, Ishan walked out to bat at number three, a position he looked comfortable at on his maiden SRH outing. The left-handed batter took no time before unleashing himself on the opposition, taking the bowlers to the cleaners. If his onslaught against RR’s Jofra Archer inside the Powerplay was a trailer, his toiling of the remainder of the attack was a blockbuster show. IPL 2025: Kishan enjoys ‘freedom at SRH’; credits Cummins and management for trusting him

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/sunrisers-hyderabad-srh" rel="dofollow">SunRisers Hyderabad</a>&rsquo;s latest recruit, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ishan-kishan" rel="dofollow">Ishan Kishan</a>, slammed his maiden hundred for his new franchise as they prevailed over Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs in game 2 of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ipl-2025" rel="dofollow">IPL 2025</a> on Sunday. With over 500 runs scored in a T20 game, it was a nightmare for the bowlers, especially for RR seamer Jofra Archer, who bowled the most expensive spell in the tournament history, conceding 76 runs without picking a wicket in four overs.
The second game of this edition lived up to its hype, with both teams taking a crack at each other till the final ball. Though Hyderabad won by a 44-run margin, understandably, after hitting the second-highest team total (286/4) in the competition, Rajasthan&rsquo;s intent during the chase impressed everyone equally. While Kishan made headlines with his first hundred of the season, the Indian pair of Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel kept the home fans silent for most of the chase.
RR won the toss, and the stand-in captain, Riyan Parag, asked the home side to bat first, a decision he probably regretted after the first innings. The super-attacking pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head began from where they left last season, smoking bowlers to all parts of the ground. Despite losing Abhishek inside the Powerplay, SRH hit 94 runs in six overs.
Kishan and Head continued the onslaught, with Head completing his fifty. His dismissal brought Nitish Kumar Reddy to the crease, who enjoyed his brief stint, and so did Proteas&rsquo; Heinrich Klaasen, who came in next. Though they had their share of cheers, Kishan holding one end meant he would achieve history, which he did after <a href="https://www.wionews.com/cricket/ishan-kishan-hits-hundred-on-srh-debut-as-hosts-register-second-highest-team-total-in-ipl-history-8882718" rel="dofollow">becoming the first Indian player to score an IPL hundred for SRH</a>.
<h2>RR came close, but not enough</h2>
Rajasthan lost three wickets upfront, including their captain on four. Reeling at 50 for three inside the first six overs, they looked like running a lost race, but Jurel and Samson had other plans. While Jurel began taking the SRH bowlers to the cleaners, including smashing their skipper Pat Cummins for an overhead six on his first ball, Samson joined him soon after.&nbsp;
The pair added 111 runs in 59 balls, giving little hope to the RR fans of an improbable-looking chase; however, SRH quick Harshal Patel broke that hope with a bouncer that dismissed Samson on 66. Two balls later, SRH&rsquo;s Impact Sub Adam Zampa removed Jurel (70).&nbsp;
With plenty remaining to fight for, Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey tried their best, hitting quick-fire 42 and 34*, respectively, but they failed to get their team across the line.&nbsp;

Cricket, Sports: SRH scored 286 for four in the first innings, the second-highest team total in the tournament history. The highest, however, belongs to them only.

Although Deshpande came close to picking his maiden IPL hat-trick in the last over after dismissing Aniket Verma and Abhinav Manohar on successive balls, Kishan&rsquo;s last-ball boundary stole the show.
Addressing the media right after his super show at his new IPL home, Kishan said,

Ishan Kishan hits hundred on SRH debut as hosts register second-highest team total in IPL history

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) have a new power-hitter in <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ishan-kishan" rel="dofollow">Ishan Kishan</a>. The exciting left-handed batter will ply his trade for a new franchise ahead of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ipl-2025" rel="dofollow">IPL 2025</a> and has already sent warning signs to all teams with his stunning show in intra-squad games. Ishan is a proven match-winner at the top, and having joined the likes of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/travis-head" rel="dofollow">Travis Head</a>, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen at SRH, he became part of the most-feared batting attack in this competition.
Mumbai Indians (MI) decided against retaining Ishan ahead of the mega auction late last year but did bid for him during it, only for them to lose the race to SRH, who bagged his services for INR 11.25 crore. Since joining the Orange Army, Ishan has been fine-tuning his batting, preparing to bat at a new position (number three) in the playing XI.

<h2>Aim is to play for India&nbsp;</h2>
Having broken several records with his maiden ODI double hundred against Bangladesh just a couple of years ago, Ishan last featured for India in November 2023, with his fallout with the BCCI over disobeying orders leading to his exclusion from the central contract. He also lost his place in the team across formats. Although Shreyas Iyer was another name who suffered the same fate, the BCCI revoked his penalties, with the selectors picking him for the white-ball squads.
However, with IPL 2025 presenting a new opportunity, Ishan would aim to grab it with both hands and make it count, pressing his case for an Indian Team return.&nbsp;
Considering India and Sri Lanka are hosting the T20 World Cup next year, Ishan has ample time to prove his mettle and push the selectors to consider him for selection.

<h2>Ishan bids emotional farewell</h2>

"So many memories with all of you, so many moments of joy, happiness and growth. MI, Mumbai, and the Paltan will always remain in my heart. I’ve grown as a person and a player with all of you by my side," the 26-year-old wrote on Instagram post.

"We say goodbye with memories that will stay with me for life. Thank you to the management, coaches, the players I’ve played with and all you fans for always being in my corner," Ishan posted along with a compilation video showcasing his memorable moments with the team.

Mumbai did not retain the India international by the retention deadline of October 31 but was still considered to be of big interest to the five-time champions.

MI had released Ishan ahead of IPL 2022 but bought him in the auctions to continue his association with the side. However, MI decided against getting his services back and eventually bought him by SRH.

During his seven seasons at Mumbai, Ishan won two IPL titles in 2019 and 2020 while being one of the first names on the team’s playing XI. He scored 2325 runs in 89 matches for Mumbai including 15 fifties. Interestingly, he never scored a hundred for Mumbai and had the highest score of 99 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2020.

With Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head being the preferred openers at SRH, the wicketkeeper-batter will have to find his way in the middle-order during the IPL 2025 which starts in March.

IPL 2025: Ishan Kishan bids emotional farewell to Mumbai Indians, posts 'so many memories...'

The India-A side was accused of ball-tampering ahead of the start of the final day against Australia-A in Mackay. The on-field umpires also warned Ishan Kishan for showing dissent over the decision. The officials decided to change the ball used by the touring side following allegations of scratches on the ball.

Just before the fourth-day play of the 1st unofficial Test between India-A and Australia-A, the umpires were involved in a heated exchange with the visiting side, accusing them of tampering with the ball.&nbsp;

When the umpire Shawn Craig informed the players of changing the ball, Ishan found himself in hot waters for calling this decision ‘stupid’. Kishan replied, "So we are going to play with this ball…that's a very stupid decision."

Craig responded, "Excuse me, you'll be on report for dissent. That's inappropriate behaviour. Because of your actions, we changed the ball."

Meanwhile, Kishan, who made headlines late last year for taking an infinite break from cricket for personal reasons and later for not abiding by BCCI’s directives to play Ranji Trophy matches, was eyeing a comeback to the international circuit via this series. And now, following this incident, Ishan could be subject to facing a potential ban should he be found guilty of altering the ball's condition, per Cricket Australia’s code of conduct.

“Any action(s) likely to alter the condition of the ball which are not specifically permitted under Law 41.3.2 may be regarded as unfair,” the code of conduct states.

<h2>Australia-A beat India-A</h2>

Chasing 224, Australia-A completed the run chase with seven wickets remaining, thanks to an incredible 141-run stand for the fourth wicket between captain Nathan McSweeney and Beau Webster. While Webster remained unbeaten on 61 off 117 balls, hitting four fours, McSweeney pressed his case for Australia Test debut against India with a match-winning 88* off 178 balls, smashing nine fours.

The Australia-A captain, however, was present at the scene when the drama surrounding ball-tampering began but admitted not knowing enough about it.

"I was at the striker's end when the umpires said they'd changed the ball, I'm not sure what quite for, I didn't notice any change in the ball personally," he said.

Meanwhile, Test hopefuls from both sides failed to leave an impression during this game. Those concerned will get another chance to prove their mettle (in the 2nd unofficial Test) before the marquee Border-Gavaskar Trophy gets underway with the Perth Test in Perth on November 22.&nbsp;

Ball-tampering allegations rock India-A as umpires warn Ishan Kishan for showing dissent

India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan says that he's very hungry for an international match and will go all in whenever he gets the opportunity. The statement comes days after Kishan was named in India A squad for the shadow tour of Australia next month.

“I feel very hungry right now and I know I will just smack the bowlers whenever I get the opportunity again. I am going to go all in. I am very hungry to get an international match. I know what happens in team meetings when someone makes a comeback to the team. How light banter happens and I am very excited about those things also. Whenever I get that opportunity, I am going to go all-in for sure,” Kishan said in an interview with the news outlet Times of India.

Kishan last played for India in a T20I vs Australia in November 2023, soon after the ODI World Cup 2023. The 26-year-old batter decided not to play in the domestic matches after that citing mental fatigue. The Board on Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), however, did not take it as kindly and Kishan subsequently lost his contract with the board.

The Jharkhand cricketer, however, has said that he now has grown up as a person in the last few months and the break helped him a lot.

“Yes, I have grown up a lot in last few months. The way that I now look at this game… my perception about this game is very different from what I had before. The banter would continue… but now I know where to stop so that it doesn’t disturb my game. I am in a more mature headspace now and the break taught me a lot about it. I was spending the most quality time of my life,” he said.

Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad might captain the India-A squad for the tour Down Under later this month, leading the race to fill regular skipper Rohit Sharma’s shoes in one of the first two Tests during the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar series. The BCCI named a 15-man squad for the Australia-A game, with several contenders like Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sai Sudharsan also picked.

The matches against Australia-A will serve as practice games or auditions for a few backup players for the marquee five-match Test series.&nbsp;

While Devdutt Padikkal, B Indrajith and Ricky Bhui will be the middle-order batters, Abishek Porel and Ishan Kishan are the two designated wicket-keepers in the India-A squad.&nbsp;

Having made his India debut recently, Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been picked as an all-rounder, with Tanush Kotian and Manav Suthar accompanying him in the said category.

On the other hand, Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed and Yash Dayal are the four fast bowlers.

Meanwhile, Easwaran, 29, is also vying for a place in the Test squad for the Australia series. Picked earlier for the away Bangladesh series in 2022, the domestic giant hasn't broken into the India Test playing XI yet. The right-handed batter has been in outstanding form this season, scoring two Duleep Trophy hundreds, one in Irani Cup and one against Bengal in the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy.

BGT: Ruturaj Gaikwad leads race to fill Rohit’s shoes in one Test as BCCI pick India-A squad

India’s Ishan Kishan has kept his hopes of a return to the senior side after being picked for the Irani Cup on Tuesday (Sep 24). Ishan, who represented India C in the Duleep Trophy, will now wear the Rest of India badge but will face stern competition from Dhruv Jurel, who will also be in the squad in case he is not in the Indian team for the Kanpur Test starting on Friday (Sep 27). The Irani Cup contest will be played from 1-5 October in Lucknow.

<h2>Ishan keeps hopes alive for India return</h2>

The Indian southpaw has been out of favour ever since withdrawing from the South Africa tour and failing to represent Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy last season. Ishan was also stripped from the central contract last season along with Shreyas Iyer. Ishan scored 111 against India B but failed miserably in the rest of the three innings combing 23 runs during the Duleep Trophy.

On the other hand, Jurel will be part of the team in case he is not picked for the Indian team for the Kanpur Test. The same goes for Sarfaraz and Yash Dayal who are with the Indian team but are unlikely to make the Playing XI for the Kanpur Test. In this case, Sarfaraz will represent Mumbai for whom he had flourished last season.

Ishan Kishan, Dhruv Jurel to play for Rest of India in Irani Cup; Sarfaraz Khan to represent Mumbai

The BCCI selectors could rest star opener Shubman Gill for the upcoming Bangladesh T20Is starting October 7, while Ishan Kishan could return to the Indian Team for the first time since his fallout with BCCI. Per the latest reports, the selectors will rest several big names, including the pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, for the T20Is as part of the workload management.

India’s home season begins with the Bangladesh series, including two Tests and three T20Is, followed by a three-match Test series against New Zealand. Ahead of the five Tests Down Under&nbsp;from mid-November, India will also travel to South Africa for four T20Is.&nbsp;

With Gill playing a pivotal role at number three for India in Tests, resting him ahead of New Zealand Tests proves to be the right justification for the call.&nbsp;

With the selectors relying on Gill to deliver against Australia during the crucial away tour, the India opener must remain fit. Also, considering India will host England for a white-ball series early next year, with the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled in Pakistan for the February-March window, next in line, Gill’s fitness and form will determine India’s chances.

"Yes, Shubman will be rested for the Bangladesh T20I series. If you look at the fixture, the three T20Is will be played on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi) and 13 (Hyderabad). Now first Test vs New Zealand starts October 16."&nbsp;

"So, with a turnaround of three days, it is important to give Gill a break," a BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, with veterans Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja announcing their T20I retirements earlier, the selectors are tasked to bring in their replacements for the future. However, as India are playing Bangladesh and South Africa in the shortest format this year, the selectors have time to try specific players for specific positions.&nbsp;

<h2>Ishan in for Pant</h2>

Rishabh Pant made an emphatic return to international cricket by winning his maiden T20 World Cup in the Americas in June this year. With him being a vital cog in the wheel of India’s Test Team, especially Down Under, the selectors might also rest him.

In his place, they might bring back Ishan Kishan, who recently scored a hundred for India C in the ongoing second round of the Duleep Trophy.&nbsp;

With Sanju Samson failing to make the most of the chances in domestic and international cricket, the selectors will look to give Kishan another chance. &nbsp;

IND v BAN 2024: Selectors to rest Shubman Gill for Bangladesh T20Is; Ishan Kishan in fray for return

India’s out-of-contention cricket star Ishan Kishan has made a statement return to domestic cricket on Thursday (Sep 12) by slamming an eye-catching 111 for India C in the 2024 Duleep Trophy. The prestigious domestic tournament, being held in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantpur, saw the Mumbai Indians star gather important runs ahead of an important next few months with Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions and an Australia tour on the horizon. Ishan’s hundred could help the star batter revive his chances of a return to the national side with India A side all set to travel to Australia before the senior team’s tour begins on November 22.

<h2>Ishan makes statement return</h2>

Playing on Day 1 for India C, the southpaw scored 111 off 126 deliveries that included 14 fours and 3 sixes. His impressive strike rate of 88 was the feature of the show before he fell to Mukesh Kumar as the day was near to close. He got a good helping hand from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (46), Sai Sudharsan (43) and Rajat Patidar (40). However, it was his partnership with Baba Indrajith that made the highlight reel of the day.

While Ishan scored a ton, Indrajith was unlucky and was dismissed for 78 by Rahul Chahar. The duo stitched a partnership of 189 runs for the third wicket and made sure India C sat at a comfortable position at Stumps on Day 1. At the end of the day, India C were 357/5 with Mukesh Kumar being the pick of the bowlers with figures of 76/3 in 21 overs, while Navdeep Saini and Rahul Chahar&nbsp;ended with one wicket each.

<h2>Ishan eyes IPL retention</h2>

Earlier in the year, Ishan was stripped of his central contract by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with Shreyas Iyer. While the latter made his return for the national side during the Sri Lanka series, Ishan is still waiting for his opportunity to return. However, his eyes will be on the IPL auctions, where he could be released by Mumbai Indians. With only four players likely to be retained, Ishan’s chances of retention depend on two key factors – his performances in domestic cricket and the scope for retention in the MI camp.

Interestingly, he was released for the IPL mega auctions held for IPL 2022 but swiftly returned as the franchise owners paid a whopping amount to get him back.

Duleep Trophy 2024: Ishan Kishan makes eye-catching return to domestic cricket with 111-run knock for India C

Jharkhand keeper-batter Ishan Kishan’s strange inclusion in the India C Duleep Trophy second-round playing XI on Thursday (Sep 12) puzzled cricket fans and the internet. Days after the BCCI released an official statement informing everyone of Kishan’s groin injury he suffered during the Buchi Babu Tournament, the out-of-favour India batter was named in the playing XI for India C against India B at Rural Development Trust Stadium B in Anantapur. The BCCI dodged an explanation on the same.

Kishan was named in the India D squad for the Duleep Trophy first round; however, following his injury, he got ruled out, with the BCCI naming Sanju Samson as his replacement.&nbsp;

What further led to confusion was when the BCCI announced in its media release that no changes were made to the India C squad.&nbsp;

<h2>Kishan’s fallout with BCCI</h2>

Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were part of Team India’s final 15 for the home World Cup last year, with both getting their chances in the XI in the showpiece event. Though Kishan got limited outings to impress the selectors and press his case for a permanent top-order spot, Iyer’s performance spoke for him.

However, following the heartbreak against Australia in the finale, Kishan and Iyer were named on the white-ball squads for the upcoming South Africa tour. Mid-way into the series, Kishan asked the board to send him home, citing personal issues.

Soon after, the board urged the centrally-contracted players, not picked for any India series, to make them available for the Ranji Trophy group and knockout matches. Both Iyer, who was out with a persistent back injury, and Kishan didn’t abide by the BCCI orders, leading to the board scrapping their names from the central contract for the upcoming season.

Both were overlooked for the T20 World Cup in the Americas, which India won, but the BCCI picked Iyer for the Sri Lanka ODIs later in July. Even at that time, there were no signs of Ishan Kishan making his India comeback.

As things stand, the BCCI is yet to include both in the central contract lists, with their India future hanging in limbo.

Meanwhile, Ishan completed a hundred for India C.&nbsp;

Duleep Trophy second round: BCCI dodges explanation on Ishan Kishan’s ‘strange inclusion’ in India C team

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has ruled out Ishan Kishan's comeback into the Indian team. Basit feels the swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter will not be able to make a national comeback till the 2025 Champions Trophy, to be held early next year in Pakistan. Moreover, the ex-cricketer has advised Kishan to focus on IPL 2025 to stage a return in&nbsp;the Indian colours.&nbsp;

Kishan was part of Rohit Sharma-led India's 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, at home. He even played the home five T20Is versus Australia, soon after the ODI World Cup, but hasn't played for India since he opted to return home midway during the tour of South Africa in Dec-Jan. Since then, he has not been picked in the Indian team, lost his central contract and is playing in domestic tournaments in order to make a comeback. However, Basit feels he should 'focus on IPL 2025' as he won't be able to make a comeback till the next edition of the Champions Trophy.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit said, "Ishan Kishan needs to focus on the IPL now because he doesn't have a chance of returning to the Indian team till the Australia series. In fact, there's no chance till the Champions Trophy. Let's see what happens after that."

Currently, Kishan is leading Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu Trophy. He impressed one and all in his side's tournament-opener, where Jharkand&nbsp;beat Madhya Pradesh by two wickets. The southpaw scored an impressive 86-ball century in the first innings (114 off 107 balls)&nbsp;and remained unbeaten on 41 to guide his side to a narrow win.&nbsp;

Former Pak batter dismisses THIS India star's comeback till 2025 Champions Trophy, says 'focus on IPL 2025'

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has sent a blunt message to wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan on his chances of a potential comeback in the Indian cricket team.

Kishan has been out of favour ever since he took a break from the South Africa Test series in December 2023, citing mental health reasons.

He is currently playing in the&nbsp;domestic red-ball tournament (Buchi Babu invitational) to get selectors' attention but Shah was very clear about his message.

He'll next play in Duleep Trophy for Team D with some other big names including Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer.

It is to be noted that Srikar Bharat is also in the Team D squad along with Kishan as another wicketkeeper-batter.

<h2>Bumrah names favourite captain</h2>

Having debuted under MS Dhoni in 2016, Bumrah has played under a few captains, including batting stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Bumrah rose to the limelight under Dhoni’s captaincy, became a force to reckon with under Kohli, and now playing under Rohit, he is the best in the world.&nbsp;

Speaking at the Express Adda in Ahmedabad, Bumrah revealed his favourite captain of the three, “There are great captains, but I’ll take my name — I am my favourite captain.”

Meanwhile, Bumrah led India in just one Test (against England at the Oval in 2022), which they lost, and against Ireland in the three-match T20Is last year, winning 2-0.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has sent a blunt message to wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan on his chances of a potential comeback in the Indian cricket team.

He is currently playing in the domestic red-ball tournament (Buchi Babu invitational) to get selectors' attention but Shah was very clear about his message. 'He will have to...,' BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Ishan Kishan's chances to make comeback for India

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali opened up on Ishan Kishan's ouster from Team India setup. Kishan, who slammed a double century in ODIs in late 2022, was part of India's squad for majority of 2023 and travelled everywhere with the team before also being named in the 2023 ODI World Cup squad. However, he played only the first two games before being benched. Since then, the swashbuckling left-hander has fallen behind in the pecking order. The batter made a bold call to skip the&nbsp;South Africa tour in late 2023, soon after the ODI WC, due to travel fatigue. This wasn't well received by the BCCI management. Thus, Kishan was soon excluded from the central contract list and remains out-of-favour across formats to date.

In this regard, Basit opined on Kishan's ouster and said on his YouTube channel, "Ishan Kishan has fallen down the pecking order. Woh bhi thoda sa fashion mein lag gaya tha (He too got into fashion a bit)."

Further, the Pakistani cricketer slammed Sri Lanka for their downfall -- who failed to enter the ODI and T20 WC semifinals and also haven't qualified for next year's Champions Trophy -- and poor form following their ongoing home T20I series loss versus India. "Sri Lanka deserved to not qualify for the Champions Trophy. It seems as if they are also more concerned about maintaining friendships, just as we have seen in the Pakistan team. My personal opinion is that their women's team have performed better (who won the 2024 T20 Asia Cup, beating India in the final on July 28). Sri Lanka's men's team should learn from the women's team how to keep the belief."

Speaking about Kishan, the left-hander needs to be among runs in India's upcoming domestic season to stand any chance of coming back into India's squad. The 26-year-old has played 2 Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is for India. He last played for India during their home five T20Is against Australia in Nov-Dec 2023.

'He is into fashion': Former Pakistan cricketer's BIG claim on Ishan Kishan's ouster from Team India

The Indian Cricket Board has granted Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan a lifeline following the central contract snub by adding them to the 30-member NCA’s High-Performance Monitoring Programme for the 2024-25 domestic season.

The Indian Cricket Board has granted Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan a lifeline following the central contract snub by adding them to the 30-member NCA’s High-Performance Monitoring Programme for the 2024-25 domestic season. Nearly two months ago, the BCCI excluded both from the central contract list as a punishment for missing the Ranji Trophy matches despite regular warnings from the board. However, Iyer and Ishan are now back in reckoning with their addition to this programme. In a chat with the Times of India (TOI), a source close to the information said the board has nothing against both the players but will not accept their attitude towards disregarding the domestic structure, which the BCCI secretary Jay Shah said is a yardstick for selection in the Indian Team. However, the source also added that the board could restore their central contracts and recall them to the Indian Team, given their performances are up to the mark, adding that these two match winners are on Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee’s radar. If they improve their attitude towards domestic cricket and turn out for their state teams (Mumbai and Jharkhand) in the forthcoming domestic season, there's every chance that their central contracts will be restored; they will be recalled into the Indian team if they perform well. This is a signal to them that they are on the radar of the selectors," an unnamed BCCI source said, as quoted by TOI. Per the report, the board has also included Musheer Khan – brother of Sarfaraz Khan, who played a handy role in helping Mumbai clinch the Ranji Trophy title for the record 42nd time this season. Laxman to lead the camp The source said the dates are yet to get finalised, with the chosen 30 to undergo a month-long camp under NCA head VVS Laxman’s guidance. "At some stage (dates aren't finalised) these 30 selected players for NCA's high-performance programme are likely to undergo around a month-long camp at the new state-of-the-art NCA facility near Bengaluru under chairman VVS Laxman. The new NCA will be launched by the BCCI in August. Most of these players have done well in domestic cricket," the source added. Besides these star players, others included are seamers Umran Malik, Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan and others, while Rajasthan Royals batter Riyan Parag, Ashutosh Sharma, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Kishore and Prithvi Shaw are among them too.
