US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (Oct 13, local time) has dismissed claims that China and Russia are helping Iran, while slamming the lefts of his country. Trump had previously brushed off reports that Chinese entities supplied satellite imagery to Iran ahead of a July 17, 2026, drone and ballistic missile strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan – which killed three U.S. soldiers, comparing it to routine espionage between nations. "You know, when they say that China spies on us, I say you're right, and we spy on them too," Trump said a day after The Wall Street Journal reported Beijing's intelligence sharing. Also Read: Trump claims ‘energy ceasefire’ between Russia and Ukraine In July, Trump also claimed with a post on Truth Social that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin personally assured him they would not provide or sell weapons to Iran. He warned that any active involvement would be "very bad" and “not in their best interests.” "President Xi, at our recent meeting in Beijing, China, told me that he would not, under any circumstances, give or sell Weapons to the Islamic Republic of Iran — And that statement included Chinese Companies. Considering our relationship, I take him at his word and, besides, l am doing him very big favors, also," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. "Therefore, two major Countries that people speak of often in terms of Iran are, in my opinion, not participating. If they did, it would be very bad for them — Certainly not in their best interests," Trump had said.

US Vice President JD Vance has made clear that Iran must carry out a “meaningful” cut in its nuclear enrichment capacity for war to end. A second source based in a European capital said the US had asked the EU to release 120 million barrels of diesel over the next six months. EU countries hold nearly 109 million tonnes of emergency crude and fuel stocks. Washington has urged European countries to use some of their diesel reserves as global prices rise following disruptions linked to the Iran war and Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said on Wednesday that the administration expected announcements from Europe soon regarding new diesel supplies. "We've lost some diesel exports from the Middle East, although we're restoring those, and we've lost diesel exports from China," he said. "So that's a lot of interruptions."

The US has urged France and Germany to release emergency diesel stocks to help ease rising global fuel prices, while warning of a possible ban on US diesel exports.

Not all is well with the U.S. warships.A string of high-profile mechanical failures and onboard emergencies have triggered alarm and have exposed growing vulnerabilities within the U.S. Navy’s surface fleet.Relentless global deployments and severe shipyard backlogs are pushing American warships past their limits. In the latest, four personnel on board the USS Dwight D. According to the U.S. Navy, the incident occurred on September 28th during aircraft recovery operations. Two naval aviators assigned to carrier Air Wing 3, ejected from their aircraft and were promptly recovered by search-and-rescue personnel. The injured sailors are currently undergoing treatment.U.S. Navy is silent on the type of two-seater aircraft involved. It also didn't disclose what happened to the plane or what caused the accident.

What is striking is that the aircraft carrier was recently repaired in July. The nuclear-powered Nimitz-Class USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was commissioned in 1977. It conducts operations in support of U.S. naval missions around the world.

Even the newly commissioned USS Santa Barbara, U.S. Navy’s 418-foot littoral combat vessel, experienced serious maintenance issues weeks before it arrived earlier this month at a Singapore port.Reports say the ship’s four engines were operating well beyond their maximum recommended operational thresholds, presenting an immediate, critical threat of mechanical failure.

USS Santa Barbara was commissioned in 2023.The ship deployed from San Diego in early 2025.It spent time in the Persian Gulf last year and is now on deployment with the 7th fleet in the Indo-Pacific.Last month, it took part in a seven-day joint exercise with the Royal Australian Navy and Philippine Navy. The exercise was a success, but not all was well with the ship. Recently another U.S. warship that made news was USS Abraham Lincoln. It faced severe operational strains. The ship endured 286 days at sea, spending over 240 of those days without a single port call, after being redirected to West Asia for operations against Iran.It witnessed system breakdowns stemming from a grueling, marathon deployment. When it finally docked in Thailand in September, the carrier was shockingly covered in heavy rust from bow to stern. The relentless combat and blockade tempo left the crew with no stationary downtime to perform standard waterline scraping and paint maintenance.Sailors reported widespread mechanical breakdowns, including failed water desalinisation systems, contaminated drinking water, and severe plumbing blockages that left human waste overflowing onto restroom floors.

Over a month after the Iran-US MOU expired, tensions remain high in West Asia. While Trump threatened annihilation of Iran, Pezeshkian stressed that Tehran won't surrender. Although Iran has now proposed a 7-day plan to end the war, it is also flexing its strength. Take a look at these visuals. As part of a nationwide mobilisation campaign, thousands of Iranians took part in a mass drill in south-eastern Iran's Kerman province. Crowds were seen carrying the national flag and a huge poster of Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Also, a rally called 'Sacrifice for Iran' was held in Tehran. According to Iranian authorities, 40,000 motorcyclists took part in this rally from Imam Hossein Square to Azadi Square. On the diplomatic front too, Iran has been making a concerted attempt. For the first time since June, the US and Iran engaged in lengthy talks, mediated by Qatar. According to Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Tehran was willing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the US meets certain conditions. He added that these conditions were outlined in the MOU signed by Trump. According to reports, the proposal entails the US lifting sanctions on Iran's oil exports, ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon and releasing some of Iran's frozen assets. In return, Iran has reportedly agreed to resume talks on multiple issues including its nuclear programme. Also Read: Trump hails ‘very positive’ US-China talks as Xi hints at more meetings this year Now, the seriousness of this endeavour is evident from the fact that Araghchi is staying back in New York over the weekend in anticipation of an American response. Now, Araghchi also added that he would like the deal to go through before the midterm polls. This is seen as an off-ramp for Trump, as Republicans are facing a tough challenge in the midterm polls due to rising energy prices, triggered by the West Asia war. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian placed the onus on ending the war squarely on America. He also vowed to respond strongly to any aggression and resist US pressure until the very end. Amid rising tensions in West Asia, Iran has reportedly set seven conditions for starting negotiations with the United States, and has sent the message to America via Qatar. It was confirmed by Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, who said that Tehran had delivered a “clear and unambiguous" message to Washington. Escalating U.S.-Iran hostilities and simultaneous maritime threats at the Strait of Hormuz and Bab-al-Mandeb have pushed global oil prices past $100 per barrel. With crude transport through Hormuz severely disrupted, energy exporters relying on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea pipelines face secondary blockade threats along the Bab-al-Mandeb passage. Together, these two strategic chokepoints govern nearly 30% of global seaborne oil trade, leaving international supply chains and energy security facing acute disruption risks. Watch for detailed analysis of the evolving crisis.

IRAN-US WAR: Iran has issued a fresh warning to the United States, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf saying Tehran will no longer limit itself to “proportionate” responses. He warned that any future attack on Iranian interests or security would trigger a “faster, heavier and more painful” response.

The warning comes amid a sharp escalation around the Strait of Hormuz, with the US and Iran exchanging attacks at sea. The United States has struck three Iranian oil tankers, while Iran has claimed attacks against US-linked vessels and American warships. Some Iranian claims about damage to US vessels have been disputed by Washington.

The IRGC has also claimed that Iranian forces fired missiles at a US aircraft carrier and destroyer. The claims come as Washington continues its naval and economic pressure campaign against Tehran.

Meanwhile, an Axios report said that the Trump administration is looking beyond the war and working on a broad plan that could reshape the US approach to the region after the war ends. It includes expansion of Abraham Accord. Trump has privately told people that he is working on "something much bigger" for the Middle East once the war with Iran is over. This comes even as US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned Iran that the US will destroy and sink Iranian oil tankers if Tehran attacks US Navy ships, saying, “All they have to do is not shoot at” the US Navy, as tensions between Washington and Tehran intensified across the region.

Former CIA Director David Petraeus in an interview has claimed that the United States bases in the eastern Gulf states is ”no longer viable.” He said that both the maintainence and functioning of the US bases have been affected. In an interview with Global Gambit, the retired Army general cited Iran’s attacks on US bases, saying the military locations and critical infrastructure were used as “leverage.” He also claimed that America has used “perhaps half of our missile interceptors” in the Iran conflict. He urged the Trump administration to shift to inexpensive drones and learn from Ukraine. The exchange that they’re getting for those is absolutely massive. Ukrainians have hit all these oil storage and refinery capabilities. They’ve hit every single refinery within 3,000 kilometers of Ukraine,” he said. Petraeus added that the cost the US incurred by shooting an expensive missile interceptor to take down a $50,000 Iranian drone “is obviously not one that is sustainable.” Petraeus did not specify exactly which bases are not “viable.” Iran has targeted several US bases and facilities in West Asia in recent months. IRAN-RUSSIA MISSILE TIES: Russia is reportedly helping Iran develop a new generation of supersonic cruise missiles under a covert programme codenamed C430L, according to a Financial Times investigation. The reported collaboration involves Russian missile specialists assisting Iranian engineers with ramjet technology that could potentially allow Tehran to develop faster and harder-to-intercept cruise missiles.

The revelations come amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, with Iranian missile attacks targeting U.S. military positions across West Asia. If successfully developed and deployed, such missiles could pose a greater threat to U.S. warships and military infrastructure in the Gulf.

The reported Russia-Iran cooperation also highlights the deepening military relationship between Moscow and Tehran. However, there is currently no evidence that a Russian-assisted supersonic cruise missile has entered operational Iranian service

He took the plane from Turkey to RAF Mildenhall in England, switched back to the Qatari jet, and continued on to Joint Base Andrews near Washington, D.C. The aircraft swap was a deliberate ruse to protect the president during his trip to Turkey for the NATO summit.

"It's up to the Secret Service. I just follow what they'd like to do. I go by Secret Service and the military," Trump later told reporters at Joint Base Andrews on Aug. 11. "They wanted me to go on a different plane, a different plane, uh, equal safety, but they wanted me to do it, so I do it." Trump’s aide Natalie Harp and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegeseth had accompanied the US President on the flight while other top officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, adviser Stephen Miller, former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and reporters traveling with the president, remained on what became a "decoy" plane. Instadocs: The Decoy Plane will be premiering on Netflix on September 4.

Iran’s Supreme Leader has called on Muslim countries, particularly the Gulf states, to unite against what he described as their “real enemy,” warning that divisions among Muslim nations only serve those seeking to weaken the region.

In a written message marking Islamic Unity Week, the Iranian leader said Muslim unity was a key foundation for building what he described as a victorious Islamic civilisation. He also urged Muslim countries to understand the plans of their adversaries and confront what he sees as common threats.

The message comes as Gulf states face growing security concerns amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States. Countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman and Qatar have longstanding security ties with Washington while simultaneously maintaining important economic and political relationships across the wider region.
