India beat Australia by six wickets in a thrilling 187-run chase in Hyderabad, on Sunday (September 25), to win the series 2-1. After levelling the series in the second and penultimate T20I in Nagpur, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue opted to bowl first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday evening.

Cameron Green's 52 and Tim David's whirlwind 54 propelled the Aaron Finch-led Australia to a competitive 186-7 in 20 overs. They missed out on posting anything over 200 but still fancied their chances despite India's strong batting line-up. In reply, India were soon reduced to 30 for 2 before fifties from Virat Kohli (63) and Suryakumar Yadav (69) stood tall for the home side and brought them back into the contest. In the end overs, the match went down to the wire before all-rounder Hardik Pandya's 16-ball 25 not out propelled India to a thrilling six-wicket series win.

After the series victory, India have bolstered their lead at the top of the ICC T20I rankings. India are now seven points clear of second-ranked England, who lost the fourth T20I of their ongoing seven-match series versus hosts Pakistan in Karachi on Sunday evening. India have a total of 268 rating points followed by England (261) whereas the likes of South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia follow suit.

The likes of West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan come next to complete the top ten. Given that India have another home series coming up, they will like to maintain their strong record in familiar conditions and consolidate their top spot before heading into the T20 World Cup, from October-November in Australia. Nonetheless, India won't have it easy as they next face Temba Bavuma-led South Africa in a three-match T20I series starting on Wednesday (September 28).

India strengthen lead at the top in ICC T20I rankings with thrilling series win vs Australia

India and Australia were involved in another high-scoring thriller in the third and final T20I, in Hyderabad, on Sunday evening (September 25). With the series levelled at 1-1, the stakes were high and the two heavyweights produced another thrilling contest where Rohit Sharma-led India won the clash on the penultimate ball to clinch the series 2-1.

The match went down to the wire, with India needing 11 off six balls. While Virat Kohli smashed a six off the first ball, he fell for 63 on the very next delivery. Hardik Pandya, who remained unbeaten on 25 off 16 balls, maintained his calm and hit the winning runs -- with four needed off two balls -- to take India past the finish line in front of a jam-packed stadium. As soon as Hardik did the job for India and completed the run-chase in style, cleverly opening the face of the bat to steer the ball towards the third-man region for a boundary -- skipper Rohit and Virat Kohli broke into wild celebrations sitting at the staircase of the Indian dressing room.

Watch: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli go bonkers, celebrate wildly after India win T20I series vs Australia

Virat Kohli's scintillating strokeplay found its match in maverick Suryakumar Yadav's batting pyrotechnics as the duo fashioned India's series-clinching six-wicket win over Australia in the third and final T20 International here on Sunday.

Kohli (63 off 48 balls) and Suryakumar (69 off 36 balls) shared a 104-run partnership to lay the platform for the Indian victory. India won the three-match series 2-1. Cameron Green (52) scored upfront while Tim David (54) provided the final flourish as Australia posted 186 for six after being invited to bat.

With the pitch offering grip and turn, Axar Patel(3/33) picked three wickets, while also executing a sensational run out. Yuzvendra Chahal (1/22) was also in his element, bowling an economical spell.

Chasing 187, India didn't have the best of starts as openers KL Rahul (1) and Rohit Sharma (17) were out inside the first four overs. But Kohli and Suryakumar batted with authority, hitting boundaries and sixes at regular intervals to keep the required run rate in check as Australian bowlers struggled to find answers. While Suryakumar orchestrated the carnage, Kohli played the second fiddle.

At the halfway mark India needed 96 with eight wickets in hand. Suryakumar soon brought his fifty as the duo plundered 15 off Adam Zampa's 13th over. Australia fashioned a comeback, ending Suryakumar's outstanding innings with India needing 53 off the last six overs.

Kohli, however, continued to go about his business, whacking Pat Cummins for a six in the very next over. He brought his first fifty of the series in 36 balls.

Australia bowled some tight overs to keep themselves in the hunt. But Hardik (25 not out) and Kohli slammed a couple of sixes but the latter was out leaving India in need of five runs from four balls.

Earlier, Green was on the offensive from the start. He smashed the second delivery to square leg for a massive six, which was followed by a boundary as Australia collected 12 off the first over after being asked to bat.

Green continued the onslaught, smashing Jasprit Bumrah (0/50) for a four before hitting back-to-back sixes, including one that went to the second tier much to the dismay of the partisan crowd.

With Australia going over 13 runs per over, Axar provided the home side with the first breakthrough as he bowled a slower one, forcing Aaron Finch (7) to mistime the shot with Hardik collecting the ball at mid-on.

Green brought his 50 in 19 balls in the fifth over, his innings studded with seven fours and three sixes. But the opener was soon sent packing by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/39), who bowled slightly wide only for the Australian to slash the ball to KL Rahul.

Australia plundered 66 runs for the loss off two wickets from the Powerplay. But Glenn Maxwell's (6) woeful run continued as Axar executed a brilliant run out with a direct hit from the boundary.

There was some doubt whether it was a run-out as wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik's glove had knocked out one bail but in the end the decision went in India's favour. Just before the halfway mark Karthik stumped Smith (8) who was deceived by Chahal's wrong 'un as the Australian innings seemed to fall apart.

But Josh Inglis (24) and David steadied the Australian innings as the visitors made a comeback. Skipper Rohit Sharma introduced Harshal Patel (1/18) in the 13th over but his struggles continued. The medium pacer was first hit for six, which was followed by a no-ball and a wide.

Rohit then brought Axar back into the attack and the left-armer immediately repaid the skipper's faith by getting rid off Inglis and danger-man Matthew Wade.

The strapping David slammed two consecutive sixes and a four off Bhuvneshwar, who missed his length in the 18th over. Sloppy fielding from India towards the end only added to Australia's total.

Kohli and Suryakumar smash brilliant fifties as India beat Australia by 6 wickets in 3rd T20I to clinch series

Mulvantrai Himmatlal Mankad was one of those rare cricketers, who had the distinction of scoring a hundred and taking five wickets in the same Test at the Lord's. For more than five decades, he held the world record opening stand of 413 in Test matches with his partner Pankaj Roy.

Even the 231 that he scored in that game against New Zealand in Chennai in January 1956 stood the test of time for nearly three decades as the highest individual Test score by an Indian before Sunil Gavaskar surpassed it in 1983.

He was perhaps one of the first professionals among the amateurs in the '40s and '50s when cricket couldn't be source of sustenance.

'Vinoo', as the cricketing world knew him, was more than the sum-total of his parts, the 2109 runs and 162 wickets that he took in those 44 Tests.

He was India's first 'Brylcream Man' for his well-oiled back-brushed hair and perhaps the first cricket superstar of the post independence era.

But for the past 75 years, one of India's greatest cricketers' name is repeatedly dragged whenever a batter wilfully tries to steal yards at non-striker's end and is run out legally.

It's a lazy reference to Mankad dismissing Australian opener Bill Brown during India's first ever series Down Under in 1947-48. The International Cricket Council (ICC) in those days used to be known as Imperial Cricket Conference. The name "Imperial" in ICC told the story.

A Commonwealth sport, where rules used to be set by the sharp suits sitting in a conference room of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) housed at the Lord's.

The place where the ambiguous 'Spirit Of Cricket' term was born and where a young Indian woman named Deepti Sharma showed what following the law means in letter and spirit.

Did you know Mankad ran Brown out in similar fashion in warm-up game?

Everyone knows that Mankad ran out Australian opener Brown for 18 as he had backed up too far at non-striker during the Sydney Test match played between December 12-18.

The Test was drawn and the incident happened on the second day (December 13) of the game. But very few people know that before the Test match, touring Indian team had a warm-up fixture against 'Australian XI' at the same venue just before the Test match.

In author Gulu Ezekiel's book, 'Myth Busting-Indian Cricket Behind the Headlines' published by Rupa, there is a detailed history of how things panned out before and after the dismissal.

The evidence that Brown's offence was the second one was documented by former Australian first-class cricketer turned journalist Ginty Lush, who was covering the series for the 'Telegraph'.

In fact, Lush's article in the 'Sunday Telegraph' on December 14, 1947, had a headline 'Mankad Again Traps Bill Brown'.

The article stated: "Brown's dismissal caused heated discussion in the Members' Stand. Even the press box was a scene of debate as to whether Mankad was guilty of sporting breach. The history of the Brown-Mankad duel is: Brown was warned by Mankad for backing up too smartly in the India vs An Australian XI' match at the SCG. "Brown was run-out by Mankad in the same match for offending again. Brown was run-out by Mankad for the second time yesterday."

Lush in fact, in his report, had stated that Brown was "foolish" to take liberties. "Although a run-out in this fashion is permissible, it is not regarded as a sportsmanlike thing under ordinary circumstances. But in light of previous warning and a dismissal, Brown was foolish to take liberties with Mankad."

"And a foot gained at the bowler's end was also a foot gained at the wicketkeeper's end. Mankad can scarcely be called 'Bad Sport' for trapping Brown. The first time, he warned (Brown). Yesterday, there was no warning, just lightning-like action."

A week after Lush's report in the Sunday Telegraph, a non-byline report in another Daily, 'Truth' (published December 21, 1947) stated that Mankad admitted during the Test match, he didn't warn Brown but he had heard Arthur Morris caution his partner.

As per that report, Mankad had heard Morris saying: "Look out BB, you are doing the same thing again."

Why Mankad got disturbed by Brown's backing-up?

Vinoo Mankad was a conventional orthodox left-arm spinner. And that's why, Brown's repeated backing up affected him technically. Why and how was explained by L H Kearney in his 'Courier Mail' piece dated December 19, 1947.

In fact, Mankad had told Kearney the reason and had intimated during the first Test that he would run Brown out at the non-striker's end.

"When in Brisbane recently, Vinoo told me his reasons under promise that I would not divulge it until he had trapped Brown a second time, as he expected he would."

Kearney goes on to write: "Being a left-arm bowler, Mankad had confided in me that Brown by leaving the popping crease and advancing forward, but outside the pitch, completely distracts him, as he is half-face on to the moving Brown when the ball leaves his hand.

"My reflective vision becomes affected and my bowling concentration suffers," Mankad had said. I had warned Brown in Sydney (in practice game) not to leave the non-striker's popping crease until the ball had left my hand, but Brown ignored the warning."

But how Kearney summed up is the crux of the debate, which refuses to die down after seven and half decade.

"Mankad explained that a right arm bowler is not similarly embarrassed by the moving non-striking batsman as when the ball leaves the hand of a right-arm bowler, he has no sight of a batter attempting to steal a march on him. Some argue that Mankad's trap is not cricket. That is ridiculous. Why not similarly claim that it is unfair for the batsman to back-up, hoping for a quick stolen run?"

The legend has it that Brown had offered to take Mankad out for a session of drinks but the Indian, who was a teetotaller had politely refused. Vinoo Mankad didn't cheat on December 13, 1947.

The legend has it that Brown had offered to take Mankad out for a session of drinks but the Indian, who was a teetotaller had politely refused. Vinoo Mankad didn't cheat on December 13, 1947.

India will take on Australia in the series-deciding third T20I in Hyderabad on Sunday. After facing a defeat in the series-opener, Rohit Sharma & Co. bounced back strongly in the second T20I to level the series 1-1 and will be aiming to clinch the three-match rubber in the third and final encounter on Sunday.

India won the rain-curtailed 2nd T20I by six wickets after comfortably chasing down the tricky target of 91 runs with four balls to spare in the 8 over-a-side contest. Skipper Rohit Sharma looked in great touch as he played a match-winning knock of unbeaten 46 while Dinesh Karthik came up with a fiery 2-ball 10 cameo to take India home.

India will be hopeful of continuing their winning run in the series-decider on Sunday and will have some tough calls to make as far as the playing XI is concerned. With Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah back in the mix, India will have their best strength attack after a while in T20Is.

MS Dhoni remains a big name in world cricket. Having retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, the 41-year-old continues to make heads turn whenever he appears on the 22-yard cricket strip donning the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) jersey in the IPL. He will return to competitive cricket in IPL 2023 where he will hope to guide CSK to another title.

Over the years, Dhoni has been known for fulfilling various roles for Team India and his IPL franchises. Apart from his blitz as a wicketkeeper, batter, finisher, he is also known to be one of the most ideal leaders in world cricket. Under him, India won all three ICC trophies and even attained the No. 1 rank in ICC Test Rankings for the first time, in late 2009. He has even led CSK to four IPL titles along with two Champions League triumphs. Known as Captain Cool, Dhoni recently revealed why he is so cool on the field amid such high-pressure situations.

In an event, Dhoni asked the audience, "How many of you think your bosses are calm?". With only a few hands going up, the former Indian captain asserted, "Either they want to make brownie points or they are bosses themselves." He added, "Honestly, when we are on the field, we do not want to make any mistakes whether it's misfielding, dropped catches or any other mistake. I always try and get into their shoes to figure out why a player dropped a catch or why somebody misfielded. Getting angry does not help matters. There are already 40,000 people watching from the stands and crores of people watching the match (on TV, and streaming platforms). I had to see what the reason was (for fielding lapses)."

"If a player is 100 per cent attentive on the ground and he misses a catch despite that, I don't have a problem. Of course, I also want to see how many catches he took during practice before that.. if he had a problem somewhere and he is making efforts to get better or not. I used to focus on all these aspects instead of focusing on whether a catch was dropped. Maybe we lost a game because of that but the effort was always to try to step into their shoes," Dhoni said on Livfast.

"I am also human. I would feel the same way inside like you all felt. When you go out and play a match among yourselves, you would feel bad. We represent our country, so we would feel worse. But we always try and control our emotions," concluded the legendary cricketer.

'Getting angry does not help matters' - MS Dhoni reveals why he always remains calm on field

India lost to Australia in the three-match T20I series opener on Tuesday evening (September 20) at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. Being asked to bat first, the hosts made 208 for 6 thanks to KL Rahul's 55, Suryakumar Yadav's 46 and all-rounder Hardik Pandya's 30-ball 71 not out. However, Australia chased down the total with four wickets in hand, in 19.2 overs, courtesy of Cameron Green's 61 and Matthew Wade's finishing skills (21-ball 45 not out).

Despite the match result not going in India's favour, a lot of individual brilliance gave fans plenty to cheer for. In the latest ICC T20I rankings for batters, the likes of SKY and Hardik also gained big following their blitz in Mohali. SKY, India's best T20 batter, had entered the top-five in the Asia Cup and has now toppled Pakistan captain Babar Azam to take the No. 3 spot. Babar, on the other hand, has seen a dip in form but managed 31 runs in Pakistan's home T20I series opener versus England, also held on Tuesday in Karachi.

Meanwhile, Hardik moved up by 22 places to 65th courtesy of his sensational hitting in Mohali T20I versus Aaron Finch & Co. His knock was laced with 7 fours and 5 sixes, at a whopping strike rate of 236.67. In the all-rounders' list, the 28-year-old Hardik also climbed up to take the No. 5 spot.

IND vs AUS, 3rd T20I: Stampede in Hyderabad as fans come in large numbers for tickets - Watch

India faced Australia in the series opener of the three-match T20I series on Tuesday evening (September 20) at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. After a disappointing run in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, India were expected to start off with a win in home conditions, however, the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue failed to defend 208/6 and lost the game in the last over by four wickets.

Being asked to bat first, India rode on vice-captain KL Rahul's 35-ball 55, Suryakumar Yadav's 46, and Hardik Pandya's scintillating 30-ball 71 not out to post 208 for 6 in their full quota of overs. In reply, Australia were off to a flier courtesy of makeshift opener Cameron Green's 61 before Matthew Wade's 21-ball 45 not out took his side home with fours wickets and an equal number of balls to spare.

In the post-match press conference, all-rounder Hardik addressed the media and gave a sarcastic reply when asked by a reporter to reveal the 'turning point' of the contest.

"Aap batao, mujhe nahi pata, humko pata hota toh wahi nahi rok dete na. (You tell me, I don't know. Had we known about it, we would've stopped them in the field)", Hardik said in response to the question from a journalist's question; leaving everyone baffled.

Hardik further asserted, "Dekho sir, pinpoint nahi kar sakte. Unke time pe bhi ek over mein 24-25 run aye, usse kuch farak nahi padta. Bilateral series hai, aur do matches hai usmein koshish karenge kuch achchha karne ki. (Sir, we can't pinpoint on a single over, they also conceded 24-25 runs in an over. We still have two more games in the series and, hence, we will try to make a comeback)."

At the halfway mark in the run-chase, Australia was marching ahead being well-placed at 109-1. However, India reduced them to 145 for 5 in 14.1 overs and were favourites with the Aussies needing 40 off 18 balls. Nonetheless, Bhuvneshwar Kumar leaked 31 runs in his last 12 deliveries whereas Harshal Patel was smacked for 22 runs in the penultimate over as the visitors achieved a 1-0 lead.

At the post-match presentation, captain Rohit pointed out, "I don't think we bowled well. 200 is a good score to defend, and we didn't take our chances in the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but bowlers were not quite there. There are things we need to look at, but it was a great game for us to understand what went wrong. We know this is a high-scoring ground. You can't relax even if you get 200. We took wickets to an extent, but they played really well. They played some extraordinary shots. If I was in that changing room, I would expect to chase that total. You can back yourself to defend 60 runs in the final 4 overs. We were not able to take that extra wicket. That was the turning point, if we would have taken another wicket, things would have been different."

'You tell me, I don't know' - Hardik Pandya tells reporter when asked about 'turning point' in Mohali T20I

Before the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, to be held in Australia from October-November, India are involved in a three-match T20I series versus Australia, at home, and will then host South Africa in three T20Is and ODIs, each, before heading to the showpiece event. Since the Asia Cup 2022 edition, Rohit Sharma & Co. have disappointed their fans with their performances and their main concern remains death bowling.

India leaked runs in the death overs in their Super Four face-off versus Pakistan and the script remained the same versus Sri Lanka as well (losing both the games in the last over). In the three-match T20I series opener versus T20 world champions Australia, India posted 208 for 6 -- their highest score in the format versus Australia -- but failed to defend it as Aaron Finch & Co. won by four wickets in 19.2 overs courtesy of Cameron Green's 61 and Matthew Wade's 21-ball 45 not out.

India had reduced Australia to 145-5, at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, after they were cruising at 109 for 1 at the halfway mark. However, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal leaked runs -- with each going in excess of 11 an over -- whereas spinner Axar Patel was the only impressive bowler, conceding 3 for 17. Bhuvi, the most experienced of the lot, leaked 31 runs in his last 12 deliveries whereas Harshal gave away 22 in the penultimate over.

After the match, the Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led Indian team management remains concerned with the death-bowling woes. As per a report in InsideSport, the BCCI selectors also remain 'concerned' and will talk to the team management to address the bowling issues before the T20 WC Down Under.

"Of course, it’s a concern when our bowlers cannot defend 208. But there is time and you have to understand that the Mohali pitch was batting heaven. So, it would not be ideal to discard them based on one match. We will talk to the team management on the help they need to make this work," one of the selectors was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

"Jasprit is still not 100%, Harshal has just returned, and a senior campaigner like Bhuvneshwar has a dip in form at the worst possible time. So, it’s concerning. Umesh has returned from injury, so he was a bit off the rhythm. They will bounce back," the selector added.

Since the T20 WC will be held in Australia, a place where bowlers are offered good conditions, Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and Bhuvneshwar’s dip in form have kept the selectors worried.

'Concerned' selectors to 'talk to Indian team management' after bowlers' flop show in Mohali T20I - Report

Team India failed to defend 208/6 versus Australia in the opening encounter of the three-match T20I series on Tuesday evening (September 20). Being asked to bat first, at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Rohit Sharma-led India rode on KL Rahul's 55, Suryakumar Yadav's 46 and Hardik Pandya's scintillating 71 not out to post a mammoth score, their highest T20I score versus the current T20 champions, but lost the contest in the last over, with Australia emerging on top by four wickets.

Thus, Indian cricket fans continue to remain concerned by the team's performances as their graph has gone down since the start of the Super Four round in the Asia Cup 2022 edition. After dominating the group stage of the continental tournament in the UAE, India lost their opening two games in the Super Four round -- versus Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively -- to bow out of the race for the final and are now trailing Australia 0-1 in the home T20Is.

However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has backed Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led Indian team and isn't bothered by two or three losses. "India have lost the last two-three matches. But India has a very good graph. Look at Rohit Sharma's graph as captain. He has done well. His winning percentage is 82 percent. He had captained nearly 35 matches and had lost only 3-4 matches. I know Rohit Sharma and Coach Rahul Dravid are really concerned about the team. I hope they will make a comeback at Nagpur. I am not at all concerned about 2 or 3 losses. They had a talk with a team, and hopefully, they will make a comeback soon," Ganguly told India Today.

Ganguly further breathed a sigh of relief with Virat Kohli returning to form and hopes for other key players to stand tall in the T20 World Cup, to commence from next month. "India will travel to Australia some weeks ago before the World Cup. I am hopeful that India will do well and that they are prepared enough for the tournament. Virat Kohli is an important part of India's team in the World Cup. But India has to play well. Everyone has to play well, starting with Kohli, Rohit, Pandya, and all. It's very good news that Virat is back in form. I hope it will continue," added the former Indian captain.

Rohit-led India will meet Australia in the second and penultimate T20I on Friday evening (September 23) in Nagpur and hope to level the series.

'I'm not at all concerned' - BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly backs Team India, 'not bothered with 2 or 3 losses'

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri came down heavily on the Indian team after their poor fielding in the first T20I against Australia on Tuesday (September 20). Shastri said India are currently no match to the top teams in the world when it comes to fielding and that it can cost them badly in big tournaments.

India lost the series-opener against Australia by four wickets at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday despite posting a massive total of 208 runs on the board. The hosts produced a remarkable effort with the bat but the bowlers were taken to the cleaners as the Aussies pulled off a record chase.

India's shoddy fielding didn't help their cause during Australia's run-chase as the hosts dropped a number of crucial catches to let the game slip out of their hands. India dropped a total of three catches during Australia's innings, including those of Cameron Green and Matthew Wade, who went on to play terrific knocks to help the visitors gun down the 209-run target.

"If you look at all the top Indian teams over the years, there is youth and experience. I find the youth missing here and hence the fielding. And that can hit badly in big tournaments," Shastri said on Star Sports after the match.

While Axar Patel dropped Green on 42 and went on to score 61 off just 30 deliveries, Wade remained unbeaten on 45 off 21 balls to take the Aussies home. It was a poor effort from India on the field as they put down important catches while also giving away crucial runs.

'They are no match to top teams': Ravi Shastri slams Team India for sloppy fielding against Australia

India failed to defend a massive total of 208 runs as they suffered a four-wicket defeat in the first T20I against Australia at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday (September 20). India produced a brilliant show with the bat but the bowlers failed to deliver as the Aussies went 1-0 up in the three-match series with a comfortable victory.

With the four-wicket defeat in the series-opener, the Men in Blue sipped to a new low as they became the first team to fail to defend 200-plus totals in T20Is at home more than once in a calendar year. India had earlier failed to defend a total of 211 runs in a T20I against South Africa at home under Rishabh Pant's captaincy.

Rohit Sharma & Co. are the only second team after South Africa among the full members of the ICC to have lost twice in a calendar year despite having posted a total in excess of 200 in a T20I match. Indian bowlers were taken to the cleaners on Tuesday as Australia gunned down the 209-run target with four balls to spare.

Hardik Pandya then notched u a sensational cameo of 30-ball 71 laced with seven fours and five sixes to help India post a mammoth total of 208 runs on the board in 20 overs. It was India's highest-ever total in a T20I game against Australia and the bowlers were expected to defend it comfortably.

Rohit Sharma-led India set unwanted record after failing to defend 208 in 1st T20I against Australia

Rohit Sharma-led India lost to Australia in the first of the three-match T20I series in Mohali, held at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, on Tuesday evening (September 20). Being asked to bat first, Rohit & Co. rode on vice-captain KL Rahul's 55 and Hardik Pandya's 71 not out to post 208/6 but eventually came second with Australia chasing down the score in 19.2 overs, with four wickets in hand.

From Australia's perspective, Cameron Green's 61 and wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade's 21-ball 45 not out propelled them to register their record T20I run-chase versus the 2007 T20 champions, in front of a jam-packed stadium. After the contest, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra disapproved Rohit's 'ultra-attacking' approach with the bat.

Ever since Rohit took over as India's T20I skipper, in late last year, he has stressed on playing an aggressive brand of cricket. Hitman has led the charge at the top of the order, often taking on the bowlers from the word go. While he has given some good starts and added more fifties in his glittering T20I career, the approach has also resulted in some failures for the 35-year-old.

Chopra said on his YouTube channel, "I personally don't like Rohit Sharma's ultra-attacking approach. I don't like it for a reason. He is selling himself short. He is a very good cricketer, but if he tries to hit every ball for a six, he is eventually going to get out. If he bats for 40 balls, he will definitely score 75 runs. It's guaranteed. But is he giving himself that opportunity to bat that long? He is a special player and needs to take some time to get himself in."

Rohit has amassed 432 runs in 18 T20Is this year at an average of 25, including two fifties. However, many feel he is going overboard with his new-found aggressive approach. 'He's selling himself short' - Ex-India opener unimpressed with Rohit Sharma's 'ultra-attacking' approach

India lost to Australia in the three-match T20I series opener in Mohali on Tuesday evening (September 20). Being asked to bat first, India managed to post a mammoth 208 for 6 in 20 overs, riding on KL Rahul's 55, Suryakumar Yadav's 46 and Hardik Pandya's 71 not out. At one stage, the hosts were reduced to 35 for 2 following the dismissals of captain Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (7-ball 2).

In reply, Aaron Finch-led Aussies chased down the score in 19.2 overs courtesy of all-rounder Cameron Green's 61 and Matthew Wade's entertaining 21-ball 45 not out. Following this loss, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria made a bold claim, suggesting skipper Rohit to demote himself in the batting order and asking for Virat's promotion in his place. In addition, he gave another suggestion; calling for Rohit-Virat to open and dropping Rahul to No. 3.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaneria pointed out, "Rohit Sharma isn't scoring enough runs. We saw that during the Asia Cup too. He is getting starts, but hasn't been able to convert them into big knocks. He should consider dropping himself to No. 3 and Virat Kohli could open. Or India could ask KL Rahul to be the No. 3 with Virat and Rohit playing as openers."

Further, Kaneria slammed Virat for his poor shot selection in the series opener in Mohali. "Virat Kohli received a huge ovation from the crowd when he came out to bat. However, he could only manage to score two runs. There was no need for him to play that shot and there was no requirement for that shot at that stage of the match. He should have looked to spend more time at the crease before playing his shots. It was a fresh wicket and he needed to adjust first," the ex-Pakistan leggie concluded.

With Rohit more suited to take on the bowlers from the word go, compared to KL and Virat, it seems highly unlikely that the Indian team management will opt to demote the skipper, with the T20 World Cup less than a month away.

Meanwhile, the second and penultimate T20I between both sides will be held in Nagpur on Friday evening (September 23).

Rohit Sharma should drop to no.3, Virat Kohli can open: Ex-Pak cricketer's absurd suggestion to Team India

The Indian team is facing criticism from all corners for their sloppy fielding in the first T20I against Australia in Mohali on Tuesday. India looked far from clinical on the pitch and dropped as many as three crucial catches during Australia's run-chase. The Men in Blue lost the series-opener by four wickets after failing to defend a good total of 208 runs.

India dropped the catches of both Cameron Green and Matthew Wade, who went on to play brilliant knocks to take their team home in the 209-run chase. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt took a swipe at the Indian players' fitness after their shoddy fielding in the game and called some of the Indian players 'overweight'.

Butt compared the Indian players to their Australian, English and South African counterparts while arguing why they are not the fittest despite being the highest-paid cricketers in the world.

"Indian players are the highest-paid cricketers in the world. They play the maximum number of matches. You tell me why are they not the fittest. If we compare their body structure, teams like South Africa, Australia and England are much better. I would even say some Asian teams are ahead of India. Some Indian players are overweight. I think they need to work on that because they are brilliant cricketers," Butt said in a video on his YouTube channel.

While he admitted the likes of Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja have set great fitness standards in the Indian team, Butt argued Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant don't look on top of their fitness. He also called out KL Rahul for being lethargic on the field against Australia on Tuesday.

"I don't know if others will talk about this or not, but in my view, Team India's fitness is not ideal. Some experienced players are not at that level where they should be in terms of fielding. Virat Kohli has set an example for others in fitness. Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya are so fit," said Butt.

Highest-paid but some are overweight: Former Pakistan captain aims dig at Indian players on fitness

India played Australia in the three-match T20I series opener on Tuesday evening (September 20) at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. It is to be noted that Pant wasn't preferred in the playing XI in India's Asia Cup opener, versus Pakistan. However, he replaced DK from the line-up in the following games before the two featured in the playing XI in India's last clash, versus Afghanistan in the Super Four round.

After Pant's omission, former Aussie opener-turned-commentator Matthew Hayden backed the star player and called for his inclusion, at all times, across formats. "Rishabh Pant would be picked in every side if I was the selector. He is just the future. He needs to be backed and needs time. Even if it's through runs or form, he should be there in my opinion. Further, Hayden also spoke highly about Josh Inglis -- who scored a vital 10-ball 17 in the run-chase -- and expects young stars to step up in the India series, in the absence of Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh and David Warner. "They are a depleted side but the reality of it is that they have got to dig deep. We have got to look towards what is next in the line-up. Young Inglis is such an exciting and young player. He is almost like a mirror-image of David Warner. He is a right-handed version. He cuts, he pulls, he lays back and when it comes his way, he hits it through the on-side. He is also a very good powerful player," Hayden added.

India locked horns with Australia in the first of the three-match T20I series on Tuesday evening (September 20), at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. Being asked to bat first, Rohit Sharma-led hosts rode on vice-captain KL Rahul's 55, Suryakumar Yadav's 46 and Hardik Pandya's 71 not out to post 208 for 6 in 20 overs.

In reply, Australia were well-placed at 109 for 1 in ten overs. From thereon, Axar Patel and Umesh Yadav reduced the visitors to 145-5 in 14.1 overs and Rohit & Co. were favourites with Australia needing 40 off 18 balls before Matthew Wade's 21-ball 45 not out, after opener Cameron Green (61) laid the foundation, took the Men in Yellow home with four wickets and equal number of balls to spare.

India's premier pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel were taken to the cleaners in the end overs as India lost the match to concede a 1-0 lead to Aaron Finch & Co. After the contest, all-rounder Hardik (who slammed a breathtaking 30-ball 71*) mentioned that the home side felt the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

"Jasprit not being there obviously makes a big difference. He is coming back after an injury, it is important for him to get enough time to kind of come back and maybe not put a lot of pressure on himself," said Hardik told the reporters.

"We all know what he brings to the table and how important he is for us. There will be concerns here and there (about bowling) which is fine. We got to trust our boys. These are the best 15 in the country and that is why they are there in the squad," Hardik added.

Bumrah has returned from a back injury, which ruled him out of the Asia Cup, but the team management didn't rush his comeback into the playing XI for the Mohali encounter. In his absence, Bhuvi leaked 31 runs in his final two overs whereas Harshal conceded 22 in the penultimate over of Australia's run-chase.

Hardik also opined on his own contribution with the bat and said, "I have gotten a lot of success recently, but for me, what is more important is that even on my good days how can I get better? The kind of career graph I have had, I don't make a big deal about my performances, whether success or failure."

"I had a good game today. They could target me in the next game and I need to be one step ahead," Pandya concluded.

Jasprit Bumrah's absence makes a big difference: Hardik Pandya reflects on India's 1st T20I loss vs Australia

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar shared his two cents on skipper Rohit Sharma's recent struggles for the Indian team in white-ball cricket. While he has been among the runs, Rohit has been far from consistent and has often gotten out trying to go after the bowlers.

India's new approach to go all-out from the word go in T20Is has ended up costing Rohit his wicket on several occasions. The opening batter tried to take on the Australian bowlers early in India's innings in the first T20I in Mohali on Tuesday but ended up getting dismissed cheaply for just 11 off nine deliveries.

Rohit played a couple of good shots during his stay in the middle, including a brilliant six over backward square leg against Pat Cummins in the second over. However, the Indian skipper perished in the next over after trying to flick one for a six against Josh Hazlewood.

Explaining Rohit's recent struggles on the pitch, Gavaskar said the Indian skipper is trying to do a little bit more every time he walks out to bat. The India legend believes Rohit should take his time in settling down at the top before taking on the bowlers as he has enough shots in his arsenal to catch up later even if he starts slow.

"With Rohit Sharma, the range of shots that he has, he doesn't really have to do what he is looking to do over here, that is step down the pitch even before the bowler has released the ball," Gavaskar told India Today.

"The way he has been playing T20 cricket before that, his scoring and strike rate has been phenomenal. It's been absolutely terrific. He hasn't tried to do anything more. Over here, in the last few matches, it just seems to me that he is looking to do a little bit more and, in the process, getting out," he added.

Despite Rohit's cheap dismissal in the first T20I, India managed to post a big total of 208 runs riding on brilliant half-centuries from KL Rahul (55) and Hardik Pandya (71). Suryakumar Yadav also looked in terrific touch as he notched up a quickfire 46 off 25 deliveries. However, their efforts went in vain as Australia gunned down the target with four balls to spare.

Rohit's personal form can be a concern for India with the T20 World Cup 2022 starting next month in Australia. The Hitman hasn't looked on top of his game and Gavaskar believes he needs to give himself time while opening to ensure he can produce impactful knocks for the team.

"I do believe that Rohit needs to give himself that little more time, he has got all the shots in the book. Even if he gets off to a slow start, he can triple it by the time his innings is over," he added," said Gavaskar.

Rohit has so far scored 434 runs in 18 T20Is this year at an average of 25.52. He has maintained a healthy strike rate of 142.76 but has managed only two fifties in the shortest format, highlighting his inconsistent returns at the top. The Indian skipper will be hopeful of bouncing back in the remaining two games of the ongoing three-match T20I series against Australia.

He is trying to do a litte bit more: Sunil Gavaskar explains reason behind Rohit Sharma's struggles for India

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has made a bold suggestion urging the Indian team management to leave Rishabh Pant out of the playing XI in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. Jaffer believes Pant has not managed to impress in T20Is for India and doesn't fit in the middle order.

Pant and Dinesh Karthik are the two wicket-keepers in India's 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia next month. While it remains to be seen who will be the first choice behind the stumps, Jaffer believes Karthik should play ahead of Pant as the left-hander has not been up to the mark in the shortest format of the game.

India will lock horns with Australia in a three-match T20I series starting from Tuesday where they will have to make the tough choice of picking one between Pant and Karthik. Jaffer wants the Indian team management to go with Karthik as the keeper and give all-rounder Axar Patel a chance in the middle-order in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja.

"I think Axar Patel has done really well in recent times, so I don't know why India has not trusted him, because he has won matches with his batting," Jaffer said on ESPNCricinfo.

Explaining why Pant should not be India's playing XI in the World Cup, Jaffer said the left-hander might have played some game-changing knocks in Test cricket but is still to prove his worth in the shortest format for the Indian team. Jaffer believes Pant can be utilised as an opener but he doesn't suit well in the middle order.

"India need to figure out whether Rishabh Pant plays or not. The Indian think tank has been thinking a lot about putting Rishabh Pant in. He has been brilliant and we have talked about it many times. In Test cricket and in the ODIs, he has played series-winning, game-changing knocks, but that has not happened in T20 internationals or even in T20s," Jaffer said.

"So India need to figure out if they want to stick with Rishabh Pant in the top six or if they want to play Dinesh Karthik, who has done really well since the Indian Premier League. For me personally, Rishabh Pant does not fit in number 4 or 5. His best place is to open the batting, which I don't think will happen. I feel leaving out Rishabh Pant in the World Cup will be the best thing," he added.

Pant has so far played 58 T20Is for the Indian team and has managed to score 934 runs at an average of 23.94 and a strike rate of just over 126. He is yet to fire consistently with the willow in the shortest format and is yet to play the kind of innings he is known for.

No Rishabh Pant in T20 World Cup? Wasim Jaffer says leaving out wicket-keeper will be best thing for India

A lot has been said and written about KL Rahul in recent times. Rahul returned to international cricket in mid-August, his first-ever appearance at the highest level since February early this year, and looked ordinary with the bat in the Zimbabwe ODIs and Asia Cup 2022 edition.

While he scored a 41-ball 62 versus Afghanistan in India's inconsequential tie in the Super Four round of the Asia Cup, Rahul's strike rate has remained a hot topic of discission. He tends to take some time before accelerating while playing both for India and his IPL franchise. However, he came to his own in India's three-match T20I series opener versus Australia, in Mohali, on Tuesday evening (September 20).

Being asked to bat first, India lost captain Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (2) for cheap before Rahul stitched a handy 68-run third-wicket stand with Suryakumar Yadav (46) and slammed a stylish 45-ball 55, laced with 4 fours and 3 sixes at 157.14. By virtue of this knock, Rahul became the third-quickest to reach 2,000 runs in the format (third Indian overall).

Rahul now has 2,018 runs (counting his latest knock versus the Aussies). He is among the 18 batsmen to be a part of the elusive 2k-run-club in the format. Rohit (3,631), Virat (3,586) and Martin Guptill (3,497) are the leading run-getters in men's T20Is.

Ahead of the series opener versus Aaron Finch & Co., vice-captain Rahul had spoken about his strike rate issues while addressing the media on Monday (September 19). "Look, obviously something that every player wants to work on. No one is perfect, everybody is working towards something, obviously strike rates are taken on an overall basis. You never see when a batter has played at a certain strike rate, whether it was important to play for him to play at a 200 strike rate or whether the team could still have won with him playing at 120-130. These are the things that no one analyses," KL Rahul told the reporters.

"Yes, it is something that I am working at, the roles that have been defined for each player in the last 10-12 months have been very clear, and everyone is working towards it. And, I am just working towards how I can better myself as an opening batter and how I can have an impact on my team whenever I go out to bat," he added.

KL Rahul becomes third-fastest to 2,000 T20I runs during blistering knock vs Australia in Mohali

Jasprit Bumrah wasn't part of India's dismal run in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, held in the UAE. While the pacer has returned to the Indian team and is part of the main squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, to be held in Australia, the 28-year-old will look to be at his best with the ball after returning to action post his back injury.

Bumrah is part of India's T20I squads for the Australia and South Africa home series. However, the premier pacer wasn't named in Rohit & Co.'s playing XI for the T20I series versus Aaron Finch-led Aussies, in Mohali, on Tuesday evening (September 20). At the coin toss, Finch opted to bowl first and Rohit explained the reason behind Bumrah's absence.

"Bumrah is not playing, he will take a game's break and probably come back in the second and the third game," said Rohit at the toss ceremony. Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik pipped Rishabh Pant to be named India's wicketkeeper-batter in the XI. It is to be noted that Pant was preferred over DK in India's all-important Asia Cup Super Four encounters versus Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Both, however, played the inconsequential tie against Afghanistan.

Ind vs Aus, 1st T20I: EXPLAINED! Why Jasprit Bumrah didn't make the cut in India's playing XI

Kapil Dev is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders of all time. He led India to their maiden cricket World Cup triumph in 1983 after defeating the mighty West Indies in the final, a victory that changed the way the game was played in the country. It also paved way for future generations to take up the game.

While he was an exceptional fast bowler, Kapil was also a hard-hitting batter and could change gears seamlessly during matches when required. One of the finest all-rounders to have played the game, Kapil had 434 wickets to his name in Test cricket when he decided to retire from the game in 1994.

He was the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket at the time and had just surpassed Richard Hadlee's tally in the longest format. However, Kapil was subsequently convinced to bring curtains down on his 16-year-long international career by the then BCCI selection committee.

Former India selector Anshuman Gaekwad, who was part of the selection panel at the time, recalled how he convinced Kapil to retire from the game after he broke Hadlee's record in a Test match against Sri Lanka. Gaekwad revealed it was not an easy decision but the selectors had decided to move on from Kapil after allowing him to play the Test series against Sri Lanka that year.

However, Kapil went on to state in a press conference after his record-breaking feat that he wanted to play for two more years. His statement prompted the selectors to have a conversation with the former all-rounder.

"Next day, a seemingly hassled (chief selector Gundappa Viswanath) Vishy told me, 'See the headlines. Kapil is saying that he will play for two more years'.

"That same evening, there was a national selection committee meeting. (Jagmohan) Dalmiya was the BCCI secretary. So, we sat and decided that it was time for Kapil to quit. I suggested to Dalmiya that as a selection committee chairman and senior, Vishy should talk to him.

"However, Vishy insisted that I accompany him. "At tea time, we approached Kapil in the dressing room. Vishy wasn't a forthright guy, who would tell you that you were doing something wrong on your face," he added.

Gaekwad and Viswanath then went on to meet Kapil for a conversation regarding his future and the two selectors offered the legendary all-rounder a farewell game while urging him to quit international cricket. Gaikwad said Kapil accepted their suggestions gracefully and agreed to hang up his boots.

"He would go round and round while talking to someone. So, I took the initiative. I told Kapil: 'Kaps, we need to talk to you. The selectors feel that you need to quit now, and you also know it. We will give you a farewell game as per your choice, but you've got to call it a day.' Kapil reacted very nicely and said: 'Thank you very much. I really appreciate what you told me'. One has to do these kind of things at times, which I did," Gaekwad said.

Kapil played his last Test match for India against New Zealand in Hamilton in March 1994 and his last ODI appearance for India came against West Indies at his home ground in Faridabad, Haryana on October 17, the same year.

He played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs for India and finished with 5248 and 3783 runs in the two formats respectively. The legendary all-rounder picked up a total of 687 wickets in international cricket.

India's 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup was announced by the BCCI last week. It featured majority of the players who were part of Rohit Sharma & Co.'s dismal Asia Cup campaign, with pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel also being included after regaining fitness.

In the reserves, the likes of Md Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar were named. The biggest exclusion was Sanju Samson, who wasn't even mentioned in the standby list. Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria feels India could've gone for Samson instead of Pant, who he believes 'shouldn't be part of the Indian T20 team at the moment'.

"India must keep their friendships aside and not pick players on that basis. Rishabh Pant doesn't look like a good T20 player. He is more suited to 50-over cricket and Test matches," Kaneria said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"Sanju Samson could be a better option over Rishabh Pant. Pant's recent performances also haven't been that great and Dinesh Karthik is also already there in the team," he opined.

Kaneria further asserted, "Samson deserved to be a part of the team. He was impressive when India toured Australia in 2020. His hand-eye coordination is very good. The wickets in Australia would have suited his playing style. Pant is no doubt a very good player, but I don't think he should be a part of India's T20 team at the moment."

Virat Kohli returned to international cricket during the Asia Cup after a break post the England tour. The 33-year-old announced his return in style, ending the continental tournament as the second-highest run-getter (276 runs) in five outings and ended his international century drought in India's face-off versus Afghanistan.

Kohli will now look to carry on in a similar stead and play a key role in guiding India to a title win in the upcoming T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia from October-November. Ahead of the showpiece event Down Under, India are set to host Australia in three T20Is and South Africa in three T20Is and ODIs each. Prior to the Australia T20Is, which kicks off on Tuesday (September 20), Kohli is just 207 runs away from surpassing head coach and former Indian captain Rahul Dravid in an elite list of batters.

Most international runs

Sachin Tendulkar - 34,357

Kumar Sangakkara - 28,016

Ricky Ponting - 27,483

Mahela Jayawardene - 25,957

Jacques Kallis - 25,534

Brian Lara - 22,358

Sanath Jayasuriya - 21,032

Shivnarine Chanderpaul - 20,988'

If Kohli has a memorable series versus the defending champions Australia, against whom he averages an impressive 64.42, he might pip Dravid to take the sixth spot in the overall list, becoming India's second-highest run-getter as well.

Ahead of the series opener, captain Rohit also hinted at the possibility of using Kohli as an opener in the T20 WC. In a press conference, he said, "Virat Kohli is our third opener and he will open in some of the games. In the last match of Asia Cup, we were happy with the way he played. Ind vs Aus: Virat Kohli 207 runs away from overtaking head coach Rahul Dravid in elite list

India had a terrible run in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, held in the UAE. After dominating the group stage, the Men in Blue fell flat in the Super Four round with back-to-back defeats -- at the hands of Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively -- to bow out from the race for the final.

However, the Indian team management and ardent cricket fans of the country breathed a huge sigh of relief with Virat Kohli returning to form. Featuring at the highest level after a break post the England tour, the 33-year-old ended with 276 runs -- second-most in the 2022 edition -- and ended his century drought by slamming his much-awaited 71st international ton.

Kohli slammed a brilliant 61-ball 122 not out, striking at 200, in India's last Super Four clash where they faced Afghanistan in Dubai. Despite it being an inconsequential tie for the seven-time winners, Kohli gave plenty to cheer for the Indian fans with his memorable ton. He moved past Ricky Ponting (70) to now have second-most centuries in international cricket, after Sachin Tendulkar (100).

While he still far away from surpassing Tendulkar's tally, former Aussie skipper and two-time ODI World Cup-winning captain Ponting isn't ruling out Kohli's chances of breaking the Master Blaster's sensational record."

If you would have asked me three years ago, I’d have said yes. But the fact that it has slowed down as much as it did yeah, I still think that it is possible for him, there’s no doubt," the legendary Australian said in the latest episode of ICC Review Show.

Ponting, however, feels that even though Kohli has time on his side, it won't be easy for him to slam 30 more centuries at the highest level. "I still think he has got a number of years ahead of him, but I guess to still be 30 international hundreds behind, that’s a lot. That’s five or six Test hundreds a year maybe for the next three or four years. If you throw a couple of one-day ones, maybe the odd T20 ones on top of it," he opined.

"Look, I’ll never say never with Virat because you know once he gets on a bit of a roll, you know how hungry he is and how keen for success he is. I’ll never say never that’s for sure," Punter concluded.

Will Virat Kohli break Sachin Tendulkar's historic feat? Ricky Ponting shares his take

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Mohammad Hafeez has opened up on his recent comments about the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and said the people are unwilling to criticise the Indian cricket board due to its growing influence in world cricket. Hafeez had recently called India the 'pampered child' of world cricket.

The former Pakistan all-rounder believes BCCI's power helps the Indian board in influencing a lot of major decisions in world cricket and there are not many who raise their voice against them. BCCI is one of the richest cricket boards in the world and enjoys significant power in the International Cricket Council (ICC) affairs.

Former cricketers like Australia's Adam Gilchrist and Sri Lanka's Arvinda de Silva among others have in the past expressed their concerns over BCCI enjoying veto power in the ICC. Hafeez has now become the latest to join the bandwagon and speak against the Indian cricket board.

"Let’s be honest. Cricket is a beautiful game, and the countries that play it are really good at the sport. They add value wherever they go. They have a flair that entertains fans. But when it comes to India, everybody knows that a lot of times people stay quiet, thinking that they cannot criticise India," Hafeez said in an interview with Cricket Pakistan.

Hafeez said he has always been against biased opinions on any platform and feels criticism should be fine as long as it is constructive criticism. The former Pakistan all-rounder said players who think they don't need any advice don't have the right attitude.

He also stood by his recent comments about the BCCI where he had called India the 'laadla' (pampered child) of world cricket. Hafeez had said India are not doing well on the pitch but are respected due to the influence of the BCCI.

"There is no doubt that India’s players are big products. Their names add value wherever they go. But it’s not like only they are doing well. Many other players inspire you and provide eye-catching moments with their game. That’s why I said that they are treated as ‘laadla’. I stand by my statement," he added.

People stay quiet thinking they cannot criticise India: Ex-Pakistan captain on BCCI's growing influence

Rohit Sharma-led India were favourites to win the Asia Cup, held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. Rohit & Co. topped their group and stormed into the Super Four. However, what followed was sheer disappointment from thereon. India lost their opening two fixtures in the Super Four round, losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively, to bow out of the multi-nation tournament without featuring in the final.

The summit clash was held between Pakistan and Sri Lanka which saw the Dasun Shanaka-led Islanders emerge on top by 23 runs, at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Nonetheless, with India not even reaching the finale, it was a forgettable campaign for the Men in Blue. Recently, former Pakistan cricketer Bazid Khan shifted the blame on India's famed top three -- Rohit, vice-captain KL Rahul and Virat Kohli -- to not hit the ground running together from the first game itself; causing India's downfall in the continental tournament.

"India, I thought. I mean Kohli got a hundred in the last game although he was looking good throughout. But India also had the problem that their top-three weren't in form at the start of the tournament, but found form as the tournament progressed. So those three didn't hit the ground running which meant that they lost those games, and all were close matches. And they would look at and think that now with players like Bumrah coming in and working towards that T20 World Cup they are in a better space but I reckon that because a few of their batters weren't in top gear, that was a huge issue," Bazid told in an exclusive interaction with Hindustan Times.

While Kohli ended with 276 runs in the Asia Cup -- second-most overall -- Rahul managed only 132 runs at 122.22 whereas captain Rohit ended with 133 runs, including a 42-ball 71 versus Sri Lanka in the Super Four clash. Rahul managed only one half-century, in the inconsequential tie versus Afghanistan (scoring 62) whereas Hitman was also slow to get going. Kohli looked in good touch throughout -- barring the Sri Lanka encounter -- but his strike rate increased considerably in India's last game, versus the Afghans, where he slammed a breathtaking 61-ball 122 not out.

Further, Bazid lauded India's aggressive approach with the bat in the shortest format, ahead of next month's T20 World Cup in Australia. In this regard, he pointed out, "That's the way forward. I don't think there is merit in playing those 20 overs and being at 150 for 5. It's just that you have wasted your resources. India have done very well playing this brand of cricket and it has actually helped them become a more dangerous and evolved T20 side. Every team has attacking players in their line-up, look at Sri Lanka, in that final they had lost 5 wickets but they kept on attacking. Their thought process was if you bat out the overs, and get to 130, that is equivalent to getting bowled out for 110. So you might as well get to 170 or 180, rather than settle for 130. And things worked in their favour."
