The Indian Army’s Dakshin Bharat Area (DBA) has established a drone training facility at the Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) in Wellington, Ooty, Tamil Nadu. The core purpose of this newly established facility is to train personnel on the basic operation of drones and help them understand the technical details and hardware of the drones and enable troops to identify technical faults in the drones and troubleshoot them themselves. A course curriculum has been formulated to impart theoretical and practical training on basic aspects of drone flying, flying beyond visual range, manoeuvring amidst winds, navigation, and operating drones amid challenging situations such as jamming/interference, officials said. They say this training would be initially imparted to Agniveers, the personnel recruited under the Agnipath scheme in the Indian Armed Forces. Agniveer signifies a new rank for soldiers, airmen, and sailors serving a four-year term. In the long run, this drone training is likely to be conducted for personnel in all units of the Army. This initiative is being undertaken in partnership with Indian startups. “When firing a rifle, if there is an issue with the rifle, one has to independently resolve the issue and do so immediately. Likewise, with drones, pilots must not just fly them, but they must have an understanding of the drones’ working, their components, and troubleshooting. That is a crucial skill that needs to be imparted along with drone flying training,” explained a senior official. The proposal for this facility was a result of technical interactions between Lt. Gen. Karanbir Singh Brar, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area, Indian Army, and drone firm Zuppa. “The real challenge in drone warfare lies not just in flying them, but in understanding the intricate electronic systems—especially the impact of high electromagnetic fields (EMF) on sensitive onboard sensors,” said Sai Pattabiram, Founder & MD, Zuppa. “That’s what our lab will offer—a hands-on, tech-intensive learning framework built for scale,” he added. According to officials, more Indian drone makers would be involved in such initiatives to impart training to the Army personnel at various establishments across the country, and this training is likely to cover personnel from various ranks and specialisations. With drones playing a critical role—from surveillance to real-time monitoring of operations, payload delivery—such training could prove crucial in the era of drone warfare.

The Indian Army on Tuesday denied reports suggesting that it had deployed air defence systems inside the Golden Temple in Amritsar to counter Pakistani drone and missile attacks during Operation Sindoor. “Some media reports are circulating with respect to the deployment of AD Guns in the Golden Temple. It is clarified that no AD guns or any other AD resources were deployed within the premises of Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar (The Golden Temple),” the Indian Army said in an official statement. The claim has also been categorically denied by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the apex Sikh religious body. The Head Granthi of the Golden Temple, Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, also dismissed the deployment of air defence systems within the shrine premises. “I have no information that the Indian Army reached out to us. I was on leave and travelling abroad. I want a thorough investigation into this matter. ‘Planned, trained and executed’: Army unveils new video on Operation Sindoor

India’s opposition leader, Asaduddin Owaisi, who has acquired a whole lot of new fandom on social media for his unrestrained attacks on Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack left 26 innocent civilians dead, is being targeted by trolls from across the border. The AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP, known for his sharp retorts, has now taken on the Pakistani trolls and lampooned them, saying that he is now Pakistan’s ‘dulhe bhai’ (brother-in-law). Addressing the media in Hyderabad after being chosen by the Centre as a member of one of the seven delegations that will go abroad to expose Pakistan’s terror links, Owaisi was asked about the relentless trolling he was facing from Pakistani handles following his strong remarks.“I am Pakistan’s dulhe bhai, no one else but me. They cannot spot anyone so outspoken, so handsome. They can see only me from India. Keep watching me and listening to me, it will enhance your knowledge. The hay in your brain will be cleaned and your ignorance will end,” the Hyderabad MP said with a smile. Owaisi has been hogging the headlines for his attacks on Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack and staunchly supporting India’s Operation Sindoor targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and has hence been at the receiving end of troll attacks from across the border. Otherwise a vocal critic of the Narendra Modi government, Owaisi has been a standout leader in the opposition along with Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in espousing India’s stand against Pakistan and Pakistan-bred terrorism.

Addressing the media in Hyderabad after being chosen by the Centre as a member of one of the seven delegations that will go abroad to expose Pakistan’s terror links, Owaisi was asked about the relentless trolling he was facing from Pakistani handles following his strong remarks. “I am Pakistan’s dulhe bhai, no one else but me. The government has acknowledged his contribution and included him in the delegation. After the Pahalgam attack, Owaisi blasted Pakistan for its role in terror attacks on Indian soil and took on Pakistan’s politicians who made provocative remarks. He made it clear that while he will continue to criticise the government on domestic matters, he will stand firmly for India in matters of national security. He had slammed Pakistan’s nuclear sabre-rattling and said that the neighbouring nation was not just an hour behind but half a century behind India. India will launch a constellation of 52 surveillance satellites over the next five years to strengthen its space-based defence capabilities. The initiative was confirmed by Pawan Kumar Goenka, chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), during the Global Space Exploration Conference 2025 in Delhi.
The satellites will aid the Army, Navy, and Air Force in tracking adversary movements, monitoring borders, and coordinating real-time military operations. “We have fairly strong capabilities already. It’s just that they need constant enhancement,” Goenka said while talking to PTI. He also infirmed that half of the satellites would be developed by ISRO, while the remaining will be built by private players, indicating a major push for private sector involvement in India’s national security architecture.

Private sector role and strategic readiness

The expansion includes the transfer of Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) technology from ISRO to private industry. SSLVs are efficient in placing satellites weighing 10–500 kg into low Earth orbit with minimal turnaround and infrastructure. This capability is especially critical for rapid-response situations and 'launch-on-demand’ missions during an emergency situation. Goenka indicated that the SSLV tech transfer is “imminent”, indicating that it could be formalised over the next fortnight.
Goenka emphasised that while IN-SPACe is spearheading the satellite deployment, further decisions regarding surveillance operations will rest with the Union Home Ministry and defence forces.

'OPERATION SINDOOR': Here's 7 things you to need to know as India strikes Pakistan

The Indian Army released a one-minute video on social media just before launching Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Operation Sindoor: Did the Indian Army hint at Operation Sindoor minutes before striking Pak?

India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ early Wednesday, targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The move comes in direct response to last week's terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people were killed, including 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national.

What did India say?

In an official statement, the Indian government confirmed the precision strikes:
India announces Operation Sindoor against terror infrastructure in Pakistan. A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.
Altogether, nine (9) sites have been targeted. Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution. These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered.
We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable. There will be detailed briefing on ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, later today.
