<p>“A medley of traditions, customs, and climate, 'Bharat' is diverse in many ways. ‘Taste’ connects us. We celebrate <em>Sharad Ritu</em>, the autumn season of abundance in this menu,” a copy of the menu seen by WION said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added, “It showcases the wealth of ingredients across 'Bharat', expressing our rich culinary heritage in a modern mosaic dedicated to the spirit of <em>‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’</em> – ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>For starters, the world leaders will be served <em>‘Paatram,’</em> ‘A breath of fresh air,’ which has been described as a “Foxtail millet leaf crisps topped with a yoghurt sphere and spiced chutney”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This will be followed by the main course, <em>‘Vanavarnam,’</em> ‘Strength from the soil’ which is “Jackfruit galette served with glazed forest mushrooms. Little millet crisp and curry tossed Kerala red rice”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This will be accompanied by Indian Breads, <em>‘Mumbai Pao’</em> described as an ‘onion seed flavoured soft bun’ and <em>‘Bakarkhani’</em> a ‘cardamom flavoured sweet flat bread’.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Beverages include Kashmiri Kahwa, Filter Coffee, and Darjeeling Tea.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What’s for dessert?</strong></h2>

<p>World leaders will be served <em>‘Madhurima’</em> or ‘Pot of gold’ – no not a real one – it is actually a “cardamom scented Barnyard millet pudding fig-peach compote and Ambemohar rice crisps”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The menu also mentions ‘Paan flavoured chocolate leaves’.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong><em>‘Shree Anna’</em>: The idea behind the menu</strong></h2>

<p>The menu was preceded by the idea behind the food which will be served and was titled <em>‘Shree Anna’</em>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“<em>Shree Anna</em> (Millets) are nutri-cereals that are considered super foods containing a high density of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibre. Millets can grow in adverse and arid conditions, with comparatively fewer inputs as compared to other cereals. They are cultivated across diverse agro-ecological regions and are resistant to pests and diseases,” stated a copy of the menu seen by WION.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“They can play an important role in addressing issues such as climate change and food security. On India’s initiative, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IYOM),” it added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>AU joins G20</strong></h2>

<p>At its full strength, the AU has 55 members and accounts for a GDP of $3 trillion with some 1.4 billion people. However, six military-ruled nations are currently suspended. Its previous designation at the summit was “invited international organisation”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>G20 previously comprised 19 countries and the European Union which account for 85 per cent of the global GDP and two-thirds of the world’s population.&nbsp;</p>

<p>South African President Cyril Ramaphosa took to X and said, “We are delighted that the G20 has accepted the African Union as a member of the G20. Global reconstruction in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic presents a unique opportunity to accelerate the transition to low-carbon, climate resilient, sustainable societies.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added, “Developing economies are bearing the brunt of climate change, despite carrying the least responsibility for this crisis…South Africa calls for an enhanced and expanded Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.”&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Nigeria</strong></h2>

<p>“As a continent, we look forward to further advancing our aspirations on the global stage using the G20 platform,” said Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is at the summit, on X.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Kenya&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Kenyan President William Ruto said that AU’s entry into the G20 will “give African interests and perspectives voice and visibility in this important body”. He added, “With Africa poised to grow in the coming years, a seat will allow it to shape the decisions of G20 to ensure the continent’s interests are advanced.”&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>European Union&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>EU President Ursula von der Leyen, along similar lines, stressed the need for technology and finance to address climate change and its effects in the region. Welcoming AU’s inclusion in the G20 she said, “As we address issues that concern African profoundly, it is a pleasure to welcome the African Union as a new member of the G20.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>G20 countries account for 80 per cent of greenhouse gases as opposed to the less than four per cent emissions by Africa but “it is among the most affected by climate change,” said the EU president.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The EU and Africa are partnering to address the continent’s priorities,” said von der Leyen, on X. She listed “ensuring food security, securing the means to fight climate change, and attracting investments,” as the priorities and said, “The G20 has much to win from a strong African voice.”</p>

<p>As New Delhi gears up to host the upcoming G20 summit, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has announced that they are taking an operational pause in their ongoing Exercise Trishul in the northern sector and that the fighter aircraft involved will not be flying between September 7 and 10, reported news agency ANI, on Thursday (September 7) citing officials.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since September 4, the Indian Air Force has been carrying out a major training exercise codenamed Trishul in the northern sector of the country, along the border with China and Pakistan.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>IAF officials on preparing for the G20 summit in Delhi</strong></h2>

<p>According to ANI, IAF officials said that only the flying operations of the aircraft involved in Trishul would be paused while other routine flying operations would continue as planned.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Between September 7 and 10, the IAF will also start operating its Phalcon airborne warning and control systems (AWACS) aircraft to keep an eye on the air space across the country as well as protect the air space over the Indian capital for the upcoming G20 summit, reported ANI, citing defence sources.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The IAF will also reportedly deploy its Rafale and other fighter jets at their advanced air bases to protect Delhi and will use surface-to-air missile systems in and around the country’s capital to shoot down any enemy aircraft or rogue drones.</p>

The free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the UK has been under development since January 2021. Although both sides agree on the broad contours of the pact, many remaining topics are somewhat difficult to discuss.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, Rishi Sunak said it was not "the main purpose of the trip." He added, "There are lots of other things we're going to be discussing."</p>

<p>Sunak said Britain's trade negotiations with India have progressed quicker than other negotiations. He said, "We want to get the right trade deal with India because it's an incredibly important partner, not just rush it through."</p>

<h2><strong>Immigration another issue</strong></h2>

<p>According to the British PM, immigration was "another issue" than trade and business. Sunak believes the current net immigration is "too high."</p>

<p>Ahead of the G20 summit in New Delhi, the World Bank has prepared a policy document which highlights how India achieved an impressive financial inclusion rate of 80 per cent within just six years, thanks to revolutionary steps taken by the government of India.</p>

<p>The G20 policy document specifically mentions the government’s initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Aadhar and Mobile phones (the JAM trinity). Notably, the document says, it may have taken India a whopping 47 years to achieve this feat otherwise.</p>

<p>The remarkable achievement of the Indian government has been highlighted in the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) document. India also plans to showcase the document at the summit to highlight its success on the global forum.</p>

<h2><strong>India’s major achievements</strong></h2>

<p>The document noted how transactions through UPI amounted to nearly 50 per cent of India’s nominal GDP in the last financial year. “Banks’ costs of onboarding customers in India decreased from $23 to $0.1 with the use of DPI. As of March 2022, India did total savings of $33 billion, equivalent to nearly 1.14% of GDP, due to Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT),” the document read.</p>

<p>“In just six years, it (the India stack) has achieved a remarkable 80% financial inclusion rate — a feat that would have taken nearly five decades without a DPI approach. Implementation of DPIs such as Aadhaar, along with the Jan Dhan bank accounts and mobile phones, is considered to have played a critical role in moving ownership of transaction accounts from approximately one-fourth of adults in 2008 to over 80 percent now,” the report added.</p>

<p>The World Bank also observed how Indians, especially in cities, were “quick and transformative”, which was very well reflected as UPI quickly gained acceptance amongst the masses, also pushed by demonetisation by the government.</p>

The G20 policy document specifically mentions the government’s initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Aadhar and Mobile phones (the JAM trinity). Notably, the document says, it may have taken India a whopping 47 years to achieve this feat otherwise. The remarkable achievement of the Indian government has been highlighted in the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) document. India also plans to showcase the document at the summit to highlight its success on the global forum. India’s major achievements The document noted how transactions through UPI amounted to nearly 50 per cent of India’s nominal GDP in the last financial year. “Banks’ costs of onboarding customers in India decreased from $23 to $0.1 with the use of DPI. As of March 2022, India did total savings of $33 billion, equivalent to nearly 1.14% of GDP, due to Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT),” the document read. Implementation of DPIs such as Aadhaar, along with the Jan Dhan bank accounts and mobile phones, is considered to have played a critical role in moving ownership of transaction accounts from approximately one-fourth of adults in 2008 to over 80 percent now,” the report added. Authorities have designated the New Delhi district as controlled zone-I from Friday 05:00 AM to Sunday 11:59 PM. They have requested people not to travel to places within the regulated and controlled zones, like India Gate and Kartavya Path.&nbsp;</p>

<p>People can commute by buses on the road network beyond Ring Road towards Delhi borders. However, buses from the Rajokri border cannot enter Delhi until the high-profile conclave is over. Furthermore, the authorities will not allow unauthorised vehicles to enter the New Delhi district.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Delhi Traffic Police has barred the movement of goods and commodities into the capital from across the border from 09:00 pm on September 7. They will allow only vehicles carrying milk, vegetables, fruits, and medical supplies to enter Delhi.</p>

<p><strong>Regulated Zone</strong></p>

<p>Delhi Traffic Police has specified the Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) as a regulated zone. They have only allowed the residents, emergency vehicles, vehicles travelling to airport and railway stations, and essential service vehicles to use the road network beyond the Ring Road in the New Delhi district.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Online Services</strong></p>

<p>Except for postal and medical services, all online delivery services will remain closed in areas of New Delhi. According to the Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) SS Yadav, "We can't allow cloud kitchen and food delivery services. Internet delivery companies such as Amazon and Flipkart will also not be allowed to operate in the controlled zone. However, delivery executives can take medicines and essential items."</p>

<p><strong>Metro Services</strong></p>

<p>Due to traffic restrictions, the Delhi Traffic Police has encouraged people to use the metro system extensively. Delhi Metro will begin operations at 4 am from terminal stations on September 8, 9 and 10. However, no boarding or deboarding can occur at the Supreme Court station, which will remain closed from 5 am on September 9 until 11 pm on September 10. Furthermore, the parking facilities will remain shut at Supreme Court, Patel Chowk, and RK Ashram Marg metro stations from 4 am on September 8 until September 11.</p>
